It’s a shame that Miitomo is gone. I really enjoyed it because my mii looked awesome and I could decorate my room with a poster of what I wanted. Not only that it was also a nice way to talk with friends.
8:29 Just to clarify from the slightly unclear wording, Word Chain and Rap Battle do both appear in the European version, at least for the UK release although I'm 99% sure it is for the rest of Europe too. Great video!
@@HBKnowItAll the day I found out about it I happened to find it in the store opening my copy of the game looking for regional clothing. It happened to be perfect coincidence in that moment
A lot of the changes to avoid cross dressing seemed a bit pointless to me since you can just make them cross dress yourself. 😭 Also very interesting about Kuroku being stage hands, makes you consider the wider implications that might have for the story of the game...
Only bad thing is that they usually always dislike the item if it's for the opposite gender. I've had this problem with me putting a female Mii, who I was trying to make appear male so I could have a gay couple in my game, in male clothing. They always hated it.
@@b3nt079 i have this problem too, but surprisingly i've got an odd one out who loves opposite-gender clothing. unfortunately, this is not one of my gay miis, lol she's a female mii who hates feminine clothes, but loves masculine clothes ("she loves it!" "she really likes it!" when given men's jackets and shirts. good for her tbh)
Took me a year but that’s entirely bc I wrote the script last year and gave up right up until the past week where I basically redid everything and then put this out. It definitely helped most of it was on the wiki tho!
absolutely absurd that they let you date KIDS (and married people in the japanese version) but not adults of the same gender. also with other details, tomodachi life really said no homo at literally every opportunity
It’s honestly such a bizarre decision but I guess maybe they somehow thought the homophobia would be more severe than the response to pedophilia existing
Even now, in games like the Story of Seasons series, same sex relationships are called "best friends" in the Japanese version Thankfully the English localization skips over the no homo bullshit and acknowledges that the relationships are romantic.
I hope that if we have a rerelease on the Switch like Miitopia, that the game will have all food and clothing options in all versions, along with the makeup & wigs from Miitopia, add in some new features and having an option for chosing what gender of miis a selected mii wants to date (which I think would be a good way to implement gay marriage), and we'd have the best port of the game in our hands, at least that's what I think
I’m assuming that if they make another, it’ll have no region locking meaning all versions have to be the same, so that hopefully will mean way more cultural diversity between versions while retaining some regional holidays and stuff (like animal crossing has)
@@PlasticKnight Yeah that makes sence! Thinking about it more I hope we get a sequel rather than a port but either way I really hope Miitopia Switch sells well so we can get more games like these
Another thing I thought about is having the option to turn off divource, since that was something that kinda stressed me out playing as a kid, all these miis I'd seen happily married with kids for actual years suddenly hated eachother for no discernable reason, idk I just think the option would be nice
11:12 A little fun fact the reason that dream is called familiar is because it’s the old island and music from tomodachi collection (DS) a little something for players of the original from 2009. ☺️☺️ it’s very nostalgic I just wish it doesn’t slow down because it gets creepy huehue
Fun fact: The bungee jump dream was in OG Collection. Speaking of Collection, main reason why it was never released outside of Japan was due to the localization teams being unable to get text-to-speech to work well when the language is not Japanese.
Yeah, I initially had a section of this video dedicated to Tomodachi collection but I felt as though it was unnecessary and might just make it a separate video in the future
12:30 That isn’t really a ‘normal eraser’, as it’s supposed to directly reference ‘keshi’, a specific type of special rubber based figure that COULD BE used as a eraser, but are more intended to be collected and played with! The color shown here is also the incredibly famous ‘flesh’ colorway, which is the staple color used across numerous keshi toylines (such as Kinnikuman/M.U.S.C.L.E., old various Nintendo keshi sets made across the NES-SNES-N64 eras to promote different games, the pokemon series, Neclos Fortress, etc!)
So I decided to play the Korean version and I took a few notes, so if you’re interested, feel free to read! 1, the bunny suit isn’t a Japanese exclusive, it’s also in the Korean version, except it’s in the Costumes section, not the Work section. 2, if you type something in English, it’ll pronounce it entirely, unlike the Japanese ver which spells it out 3, the Korean version has a few exclusive clothing 4, when you stare at a Mii, the blushing might look different than other versions 5, in the hail dream, the mii’s are fan dancing around 1 mii (there are 2 vers of this dream) 6, there’s a grape shooting thing in the news tower? (I’m not sure if it’s exclusive tho) That’s all I can take note of right now, I might take more notes and edit this comment
I've been playing a little bit too, though also there has been other stuff I have yet to have found as well! Carossmo discovered a feature exclusive to the Korean Version where Miis are set up on blind dates to various locations. It has unique music and everything, the link to it is here: ruclips.net/video/FzRW-DoV-Ao/видео.html
Was anything related to Japanese culture remove in the Korean version of it I feel like it it send a lot of Japanese games anyting to the culture remove or change since Korea and Japan did not have a good history
So I had two miis in a relationship and they were both adults but I had to change the girl's age ( I had changed her bday to be accurate to her reference sheet as she is an oc who's 16) and the relationship status didn't change as I thought it would. So he proposed a while later, I went through the whole shabang but before the wedding cutscenes would play he said that he can't marry her yet because she's not 18, will you use an age o magic to help them out? I of course said yes and they got married now have a kid. So there is unique dialog for an adult-child relationship with trying to be married.
Hi! I found a regional difference which you haven't said. In tomodachi quest on the panel on the touch screen the sign below the coin slot's text varies by region. On the american and european version it simply says "Insert Coin" whilst in the Japanese and Korean version it specifies the price for one play.
The bungee jump dream in the Korean version was also in the original Tomodachi Collection. Also, the Korean title translates to "Friend-Gathering Apartment", which makes a lot of sense.
this is so cool, i love how each version is the same game but reflects on each culture to make it more unique to the player based on where they're from. great job covering it all, thats all i gotta say. poggers.
Yess- I have the galaxy version of the 3DS and I have Tomodachi Life, and honestly I get so upset when I can't have gay miis and when I run out of things to do.
workaround for same sex date: make a mii a girl, but make a boy avatar, and viceversa, the game will get the pronouns wrong (?) but its fine, and the males or females can have babies too
If they do make a Tomodatchi Life sequel I’m begging they don’t have any regional differences. I really like the idea of there being a ton of stuff all packed in the game from different cultures. I think it would be rly cool
5:10 Well, its not thanking the player. いただきます is a phrase Japanese people use before eating a meal. It basically thanking everything that has been done to create the meal.
I hope we get a remake! With more options, maybe pets, make-up too! I always wanted to be able to make miis go to dates :/ like I tell the mii "go and try to be friends with this mii!" it would be so much better like sometimes I just want to make that 2 people date or be friends
And I really wanted a like.. Sexuality thing? Like yes I wanna be able to make gay miis! Even if they aren't able to have kids (or they could add a adoption thing like they say they want a kid and you make one for them) Like you can choose if they are gay, straight or bisexual for a example
@@ritafonseca9895 I feel like a lot of those things would be really cool honesty, I’m just hoping they decide to take advantage of it. For sexuality I’m assuming they’re gonna go with the “Pansexual until proven otherwise” approach like The Sims does, and hopefully they can follow some sort of fantasy logic for babies where gay miis can just decide to have one
I rlly want to restart my save file on tomodachi life, but I’ve got so attached to my mii’s I can’t bring myself to do it so they’re basically here forever. Looking forward to tomodachi life dx on the switch!
I would recommend homebrewing your console, and backing up your save data via Checkpoint. Then you can restart the data and still keep a copy of your data elsewhere. At least, that’s what I did when I restarted my island, haha
14:49 the souvenir being a piece of the Berlin Wall implys that Mii communism is real meaning Mii WW1 HAPPENED meaning Mii WW2 happened as well… this is a lot darker than I think they realised
Wow okay the timing of this is insane. I just watched your Iceberg video yesterday and i knew you were going to eventually make this video and i was anticipating it. RUclips recommendations worked for once, and i loved this video just like your iceberg. I never knew about most of the stuff you covered in this video, i had no clue that this game changed so much in other places. Very good, keep up the good work. Hopefully you get bigger because you definitely deserve way more subs than you have currently!
This video was a very interesting watch, I knew the Japanese version had differences but I didn't know that there were so many of them. Nice work on the video!
I wish that for a possible sequel they add like at least the option to make the babies grow up slowly, as well letting couples have more than one child at a time. I like the cutscenes when the families are together having fun. I also kind of wish we can give the Miis accents, and depending on where they're from they'll ask for something and explain what it is if it goes by a different name in that respective region.
I’m hoping if they make a remake, they add same sex relationships (because literally everyone in the game is straight) and where you can give the miis relatives. My brother’s daughter and my son in the game became a couple because they weren’t allowed to be assigned siblings.
I learned this feature from Carrossmo, but it was way after this video had already come out :,) I'm still planning on someday recording more Korean version differences, but it depends on what I can plausibly do
It's amazing, isn't it? I remember buying the game for Christmas after watching an American RUclipsr play it, and the differences threw me!! The Miis even have accents! Such detail!! 😍
Holy crap, I am shocked you were able to find all of this. I've been playing this game since it launched and I never even thought of how many differences it would have between regions.
The problematic aspect to that is that they're doing it for comedy purposes and not because men should be able to wear dresses if they want, it's deceptively not progressive :/
The game is just downright adoring and charming. The only thing I’m a bit sad about is the lack of lgbtq additions to it, though, I don’t necessarily blame them since the lgbtq wasn’t prominent in Japan at the time. I’m glad they accepted their mistake though!
This game came out before gay marriage was legal in all US states as well, even disregarding the fact that gay marriage is still illegal in Japan, so I’m assuming they also were struggling as a result of that as well. They did have a sort of compromise for it in Miitopia, so hopefully they can do the same thing with Tomodachi Life in a potential future sequel
They apologized for not including same sex couples back when the game came out and promised it for a sequel. STILL WAITING FOR A DAMN SEQUEL, THIS GAME WAS STILL AMAZING. Still had a loophole since you can make the miis look however you wanted lol.
In the next game i was thinking like a X Y orientation chart, Like X would go (gay▪︎bi▪︎hent) And Y would go (ace▪︎aromantic ▪︎allo) Aslo a inters3x option would be nice.
@@radiokunio3738 I feel as though the most likely route they will go is by having all miis be bisexual, and removing gendered terminology when referring to miis (similar to miitomo and animal crossing)
this game is honestly more amazing the more I think about it, really deep gameplay and you can see the effort they put into localised versions to make it accessible for everyone… those small changes can mean a lot. it’s clear the people who worked on it really cared and it shows in the end result (unlike some game developers nowadays…thinking specifically of EA and the sims 4, if only the ammount of effort and care about the small things was put into that game) ALSO THE SOUNDTRACK?? Iconic. this has also made me remember loads of features I forgot, like tomodachi quest, daily news reports, the songs… good times ahahaha
As a British tomodachi life player who plays the japanese Version i noticed a few differences. When a mii has already had something food clothes etc the tick is pink instead of green. In the park the photoshot the time is at 4 instead of 5pm. When you call a mii they won't always bow they pant, wave (but different) sprint and wave there arms. The "Real" interior room is the most expensive room instead of the golden room being the second expensive. When you visit a place like fountain etc the title "There seems to be nobody here now.." Doesnt show up
Just for clarification, the European version has both Word Chain *and* Rap Battle every day. Word Chain is from 17:30-18:30 while Rap Battle is from 19:00-20:00.
So I saw that my image was used at 7:03 I want to thank you for that privilege Anyways great video all around. I don't think of this many differences in the regional versions
Fun Fact: In the 3DS home menu, on the Tomodachi Life logo (the one on the top screen), the island is missing the observation tower. This is because nintendo used the same model from the Japanese version for all regions.
@@scoutjasperwillow It’s the island of the game Tomodachi Collection, as you can tell by the more nostalgic looking graphics, and the DS sounding music. A lot of the changes to avoid cross dressing seemed a bit pointless to me since you can just make them cross dress yourself. 😭 Also very interesting about Kuroku being stage hands, makes you consider the wider implications that might have for the story of the game...
I agree
@loficold and even then, it’s still allowed.
@loficold not always, actually, just usually
Only bad thing is that they usually always dislike the item if it's for the opposite gender. I've had this problem with me putting a female Mii, who I was trying to make appear male so I could have a gay couple in my game, in male clothing. They always hated it.
@@b3nt079 i have this problem too, but surprisingly i've got an odd one out who loves opposite-gender clothing. unfortunately, this is not one of my gay miis, lol
she's a female mii who hates feminine clothes, but loves masculine clothes ("she loves it!" "she really likes it!" when given men's jackets and shirts. good for her tbh)
"In New Life, Child Miis can date Adult Miis" left me like 👁👄👁

Sorry WHAT
When i heard that fact i was like What The Allah!
This is so in depth. I don't even want to know how long this must have taken to make. Good stuff!
It’s honestly such a bizarre decision but I guess maybe they somehow thought the homophobia would be more severe than the response to pedophilia existing
ikr, it honestly makes me pretty mad
They used incest to cover up a gay relationship in a certain infamous dub, soooo....
Even now, in games like the Story of Seasons series, same sex relationships are called "best friends" in the Japanese version
Thankfully the English localization skips over the no homo bullshit and acknowledges that the relationships are romantic.
According to the wiki, they apologized and said that they’ll add it in the next game, but it’s absolutely revolting either way. Makes me feel ashamed.
Thinking about it more I hope we get a sequel rather than a port but either way I really hope Miitopia Switch sells well so we can get more games like these
I just hope you can transfer miis from Miitopia since make up isn't system wide
I think if we get a switch version Nintendo will include lgtbq relationships since Nintendo said they will include that
Another thing I thought about is having the option to turn off divource, since that was something that kinda stressed me out playing as a kid, all these miis I'd seen happily married with kids for actual years suddenly hated eachother for no discernable reason, idk I just think the option would be nice
11:12 A little fun fact the reason that dream is called familiar is because it’s the old island and music from tomodachi collection (DS) a little something for players of the original from 2009. ☺️☺️ it’s very nostalgic I just wish it doesn’t slow down because it gets creepy huehue
This music reminds me of an fighting game looking familiar... was this used in Smash bros tomodachi life stage?

2, if you type something in English, it’ll pronounce it entirely, unlike the Japanese ver which spells it out
3, the Korean version has a few exclusive clothing
4, when you stare at a Mii, the blushing might look different than other versions
5, in the hail dream, the mii’s are fan dancing around 1 mii (there are 2 vers of this dream)
6, there’s a grape shooting thing in the news tower? (I’m not sure if it’s exclusive tho)
That’s all I can take note of right now, I might take more notes and edit this comment

Yeah I initially was going to mention it but for some reason I didn’t. Good to point out tho!
Little correction, in the european version rap battles only happens at the evening, word chains are in the end-noon
The bungee jump dream in the Korean version was also in the original Tomodachi Collection. Also, the Korean title translates to "Friend-Gathering Apartment", which makes a lot of sense.
Yep! I forgot to mention the fact that it was carried over but it indeed was

this is so cool, i love how each version is the same game but reflects on each culture to make it more unique to the player based on where they're from. great job covering it all, thats all i gotta say. poggers.
All I want is this game on Switch. Just expand the island with new locations and events, add same-sex relationships and I'll pay 60$ for it.
Yess- I have the galaxy version of the 3DS and I have Tomodachi Life, and honestly I get so upset when I can't have gay miis and when I run out of things to do.
Honestly same, I'd pay.
I have no money ever since it was used to buy my phone but I'd give a donut for it.
I want to have different nationalities like a british islander so I can hear diff accents
workaround for same sex date: make a mii a girl, but make a boy avatar, and viceversa, the game will get the pronouns wrong (?) but its fine, and the males or females can have babies too
Translators: Translating is a very though job, making a global release date impossible
Also translators:
I have no idea how many specific translations for this game exist but it’s WAYYYY too much work than a typical localization that’s for certain
If they do make a Tomodatchi Life sequel I’m begging they don’t have any regional differences. I really like the idea of there being a ton of stuff all packed in the game from different cultures. I think it would be rly cool
oh yeah that would be awesome
the "familiar" dream genuinely unnerved me seeing it, so i guess itd make sense to not include it in other regions LOL
Yeah also cus Tomodachi Collection never came out outside Japan
5:10 Well, its not thanking the player. いただきます is a phrase Japanese people use before eating a meal. It basically thanking everything that has been done to create the meal.
Yeah that’s essentially what I mean
thats exactly what she said tho
I hope we get a remake! With more options, maybe pets, make-up too!
I always wanted to be able to make miis go to dates :/ like I tell the mii "go and try to be friends with this mii!" it would be so much better like sometimes I just want to make that 2 people date or be friends
And I really wanted a like.. Sexuality thing? Like yes I wanna be able to make gay miis! Even if they aren't able to have kids (or they could add a adoption thing like they say they want a kid and you make one for them)
Like you can choose if they are gay, straight or bisexual for a example
@@ritafonseca9895 I feel like a lot of those things would be really cool honesty, I’m just hoping they decide to take advantage of it. For sexuality I’m assuming they’re gonna go with the “Pansexual until proven otherwise” approach like The Sims does, and hopefully they can follow some sort of fantasy logic for babies where gay miis can just decide to have one

It’s sad making Joseph Joestar and Caesar Zeppeli without their signature British and Italian accents respectively

My brother’s daughter and my son in the game became a couple because they weren’t allowed to be assigned siblings.

a summary of this video: the japanese version is insanely more problematic than other versions, except for the fact that it lets dudes crossdress :D
How is it problematic?
@@hjsgdhdhk Do you really have no idea or do you not see the problem.
You can crossdress just by giving them the clothes (at least in the Australian version I haven't played others)
@@goodlad85 i know, but i mean in stuff outside of that lol
The problematic aspect to that is that they're doing it for comedy purposes and not because men should be able to wear dresses if they want, it's deceptively not progressive :/
Personality types are different in in some versions too. Like the ones used in Europe and Australia are different to the ones in America.
Only the names are different. Some of them were swapped around
I absolutely love how one of the examples was Poofesure's Beef Boss and Beef Bitch

And Y would go (ace▪︎aromantic ▪︎allo)

this game is honestly more amazing the more I think about it, really deep gameplay and you can see the effort they put into localised versions to make it accessible for everyone… those small changes can mean a lot. it’s clear the people who worked on it really cared and it shows in the end result (unlike some game developers nowadays…thinking specifically of EA and the sims 4, if only the ammount of effort and care about the small things was put into that game)
ALSO THE SOUNDTRACK?? Iconic. this has also made me remember loads of features I forgot, like tomodachi quest, daily news reports, the songs… good times ahahaha
When you visit a place like fountain etc the title "There seems to be nobody here now.." Doesnt show up
Ngl, this video is surprisingly entertaining! Thank you for making it!
