My favorite memory with this game is when I made this guy with big sunglasses and a big nose and mustache, gave him a big trench coat and hat, I messed around with his voice so his inflection would go up at the end of every sentence to sound like he was always asking a question, I named him Suspicious Guy, and right after I made him I went to go solve some other Mii problems and one of the first ones was the random person in a disguise on the roof of the apartment and IT WAS SUSPICIOUS GUY! He literally just put on a different pair of sunglasses and a new mustache. It was the funniest thing I had ever had happen because he just showed up on the island and immediately started living up to his name and threatening the other residents. I aspire to be that one dimensional some day
Had a mii that I loathed. He tried asking out my mii but I said not to do it. Then karma hit: my mii asked him out. They got married an hour after. The next day they had a kid. Tomodachi you cruel mistress.
Fun fact about Tomodachi Life, it has a surprising amount of differences between versions. To bring one random example, the Japanese version has Word Chain but doesn't have Rap Battle, the US version has Rap Battle but doesn't have Word Chain, and the European version has both.
One time one of my Miis wanted to confess so I told her to confess at the Café. After confessing a Mii sitting in the next table turned around and confessed her love for the same guy. Then another Mii turned and confessed, then another, and then another. He picked the second one to confess and dumped his girlfriend. I have been searching for that high again ever sense and I have yet to find it.
If you gave your Miis enough money through level ups you could actually send them to space, which was pretty cool but not exactly worth taking on the role of sugar daddy for them.
i lost my copy of this game. but it was so chaotic. my character that i hated. fell in love with my me. and they got married. i sat in fear of what i had created.
I lost my copy too, but I had that exact same situation, I made the ugliest, most unlikable, most annoying "I'd like a new hat" Mii to ever exist, and my look-alike got married to IT, not he, not her, IT, and had KIDS, and the kids were the most unspeakable Eldritch horrors to come out of any womb
This game is great for about 2-4 weeks, but when the "lol oh so random" novelty wears off & everything starts to repeat itself, you need to take a long break from it, like several years for you to forger everything. But the one thing you never get tired of is creating new Miis based off franchises.
Kind of similar to real life. You're a kid, having a ton of fun doing kid things without a worry in the world. But, in the blink of an eye, you've grown, which means you have to worry about stuff like school and grades. Once you've finished college, it's now time for you to get a job and work. For a while, you're like: "oh, this is ok" but then after a while, it's insanely repetitive, like you said, everything repeats itself. Every day is the same. Wake up, eat breakfast, go to work, go home, eat dinner, chill, then sleep. What would be the point in that? Isn't life supposed to be fun? This is when you need to take a long break from life. Perhaps a vacation or a tour to someplace new. Like in the game, you can take a break for as how long as you want. But in the real life, you can't really do that unless you'd prefer to be homeless. Or, you're insanely rich, but only a few are that lucky.
i got tomodachi life when i was 8 or 9 after i saw my friend playing it. as i was setting up the game i was walking with my mom through walmart, when my mii asked for a friend and i ended up looking at some board congratulating some old dude who worked there, who was named guy. i thought it was the funniest name in the world so i made him a mii. later on me and guy became sweethearts, then married. in late middle school i remembered him and added him to my new save file and we ended up married again. every day i live in fear that i will meet someone named Guy because i will have no choice but to fall in love
I'm glad there are people who loved this game as much as I did. I'd throw 100$ at Nintendo if they came out with a sequel😂. Tomodachi life was probably top 5 best games of the decade
The Miis can actually dislike the interiors you give them! Only the ones like the shack and prison cell, but their happiness does go down and they’ll say something like “This is the new room? It’s… umm.. well..”
This game is what a game should be: Able to be fun while not requiring days of both skill and effort. You can play it whenever you'd like, something always happens in it so it drives you to check back on it now and then, and you don't need to be ranked #1 in skill in order to enjoy most or all of the game. All the popular, maybe even unknown games out there are still fun to play, just that most require a lot more of your time and skill now.

I think Tomodachi Life while being worse than the Sims is honestly it's biggest strength. It allowed it to focus more on the character of the game and it shows. Yes, this isn't Nintendo Sims, but just... Nintendo. That's what I get from this in every aspect. Also Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon LEGIT makes this game 10x more possible. I can't joke about how interesting the fact that the game getting it's remake on the switch is for this game.
This was such a great video! I bought this game a couple years ago and while I did burn myself out from it after a while, I've had so much fun just building a world with these little Mii's, and I know that after taking a break I'd be happy to pick it back up and start all over again. I was never able to quite put my finger on why this game is so much fun, but I think you described it perfectly. Awesome video, mate. You've earned a sub :]
i BEGGED for this game when it released, and i remember opening my 3ds on christmas, screaming, and instantly running off to my bedroom to ignore everyone that came over in favor of booting up the game and playing for hours. even after all this time, i still boot it up at least every few months
A switch port of this game, even if it was like the miitopia port (only graphical updates and slight extra gameplay but largely the same) I’d be so happy. Miitopia on switch proved miis are still worthwhile for Nintendo and having that new iteration of mii maker integrated into the game would give you a lot more room to make characters you want to
I just recently started replaying this game with my boyfriend. As a trans individual I originally played before coming out and it’s so nice and funny to watch my new Mii interact in different ways I love this game so much
Here is an explanation of the 3 missing map items, When your Miis get married and have children, the children grow up and you can choose between them living on the island or going away to become explorers. They go to the docks (anchor symbol) until your streetpass someone and then they go and visit their island, they hang around on the other persons island at the campsite (symbol to the left of anchor) and act a bit like a temporary islander for them, they can come back to you and visit and send letters and stuff as well. the t shirt symbol on the left is your imports/exports, upon making your island, you get an outfit you export, and streetpassing with people will result in them getting that outfit and you getting the one they export.
i recall having my mii getting married, having a dog and a child with my crush and i was so happy ! it took me months to got them together and micro managing their hazardous choice. it is such a precious childhood memory, my sister still own the game (i believe so) and it was such a daring game with a graphic style still so fun to watch with realistic hands ! in France it wasn't that mainstream except the adds but i don't remember people talking about it much sadly :c
When I was younger I lost my old copy of the game (most likely got stolen) so I decided to buy a new one… I got it in the mail yesterday and you can best bet I cried when I saw the loading screen. Even with all the questionable stuff going on Tomodachi life held up pretty good, the humor is great, I actually like having little to no control over the miis cause it makes the gameplay just so much more special and overall the nostalgic feel you get from the mini games to watching your mii self get married, it really is a great game (except for the inclusivity parts but then again it got released in 2013 so who can blame them).
i had taken a crack at potentially making a "sequel" obviously without Nintendo's assets but its extremely hard to make something as charming as a mii or a animal crossing character without getting a lil to close to those. maybe ill have an enlightening moment and it'll come back to me one day.
Tomodachi Life I think can get stale after awhile but even then it takes AWHILE for it to get to that point. I think this was a really good break down of what works in Tomodachi Life. I hope they make another one in the future cause I feel like you can add so much to this idea. GOOD STUFF
i adore your video essay / commentary style - well rounded and just very very watchable! thanks for giving me something to enjoy when i log on to youtube :)
watching this video gave me flash backs to being at the hospital for houuuurss visiting my grandma and just continually playing tomodachi life having the time of my life
I still play this game basically semi daily, its so charming and I love it. It’ll always have a special place in my heart! Hearing you explain the game to people who don’t know it makes me feel kind of nostalgic for some reason lol
I loved this game. After months of playing, thats where the drama started. I had Miis divorce, become a literal baby factory (they just kept having kids, ALL THE TIME. They had 7 until I literally stopped playing, got back? Wanted another one. It was just this one couple) Divorced then fell in love again. Broke up and got back together too, enemies, jealousy, this one Mii kept getting all the male Miis confess but either rejected or never showed up, you name it. It was AMAZING. It was a telanovela. I loved it.
i still have my nintendo 3ds and has tomodadhi life but for some reason the workers have wooden boxes for heads but in your video they have robot heads
I remember playing this game when I was much younger and getting really excited whenever I saw one of my Miis falling in love, since it was so rare. It would be the highlight of my day if I saw that pink icon on someone's room, and to hear that music which I don't even know how to describe with words. Also I remember saving up money for literal weeks just so I could afford the most expensive room for my lookalike Mii (I'm not egotistical... probably).
Its been 5 years i got Tomodashi life and i still play it til nowdays, it got pretty repetitive but i love taking care of my villagers. I wish there was an DLC or an remake adding more minigames and real life events like christmas, new year etc, similar to Animal Crossing, it would be great!
given that Miitopia got re-released on the Switch with some add ons to in-between story beats with your group of adventurers having small parties in the Inn, the horse and outing mechanics to help grow the bonds between Mii's and even that insane makeup and wigs where people could make 1:1 recreations of characters from other games and even shows given enough time and people really loved Miitopia so perhaps Tomodachi Life could make a return, but they'd probably have to fangle around with the Dual screen to one screen and the touch screen controls to regular controller movement controls, worst case scenario it gets turned into some kind of Phone game
i have so many dearly beloved tomodachi memories. i still play it to this day, even if i've reset my island a few times. there's one couple on my current island that i have failed the proposal minigame for FOUR TIMES. it haunts me. my reaction time is so so bad. please
The drama of tomodachi life made 8yr old me so happy. This was some of the drama that happened on happy island: - I married my grandad (a really big age gap) - my nan and mario had 5 kids - my miis got into fights all the time it was hilarious - proposing scared the sh!t out of me - I made a song about my dad's farts (not lying) - the café gossip was elite - Judgment bay was the peak of politics in my opinion - QUIRKY QUESTIONS 🔛🔝 I ASKED THE MOST CURSED THINGS - the rap battles were so funny I can't wait for the switch version as ITS CONFIRMED!!
@@SmolPotato8i dont think it was confirmed but i think the copyright was renewed or changed, sadly pretty standard for older games. No confirmation yet :(
I remember playing a long time ago, I had all the spotpass stuff, miis going off through streetpass, misty from pokemon married squidward, normal stuff like that. I love this game and I do hope it comes back like miitopia did.
I've seen so much videos about tomodachi life, and frankly, I'm tired of hearing about it! But your humor has made it sound so much more interesting again. :) Seriously - I'm surprised you only have 3k subs, you deserve more. Keep it up!!

Thank you for the lovely words! And I completely agree, Nintendo have to realize there is an audience for this game lol it's mad how they haven't announced a sequel yet

I really hope they release it for the switch because i lost my ds a long time ago but really want to play that game again, seriously one of my favourite nintendo games ever
Someone probably said this but in the card game you can look at the Miis expression when you put your hand over a card. If they are happy you know that’s the wrong card to choose
I only recently started playing this game and a remaster of it on the switch or something would be so cool, but nintendo seems to not like miis anymore Awesome video by the way
One of my fav memories about playing this game was 8yo me and my cousin making weird ass songs in the theater and watching my little brother's mii fall in love with the ugliest creature we created on the island (it made him cry irl so we had to change the chara lmao) I wish they would make a switch remake i really wanna play that game again
i didnt realise this game was so popular and sold so well? Even more crazy now they havent put it on switch... Also I just unlocked a memory lol where I made my sister marry the ugly mii i made
That's the exact way I was last year. I started making what I loved though and eventually I got better! If you make a video and it's not good, it only makes you better at seeing your mistakes which makes it easier to improve. Wish you the best of luck if you do decide to make one!
The mii games are some of my favorites, and I've played Miitopia on the 3ds for over 245 hours. I've only experienced this gane through the short demo. I've been wanting to play this game for a long time, so I should ask my friend to get it for me lel.
I made a mii for my mom and dad around the first time i played. They broke up once, got married, got divorced, and all four of my dad's mii's kids hated him
one thing im sad about is that while the nintendo switch DOES have touchscreen functionality, most games are optimized to work well while docked, meaning a lot of content would be gutted (drawing on a miis face, decision beach, etc) for the sake of being optimized for non-handheld gameplay if we do ever get a port, assuming the amount of touchscreen requiring content isnt seen as a barrier of entry for development in general
i truly hope that nintendo releases a switch version of this game, it would be amazing to see the game with upgraded graphics and new features
Fr I missed out on playing during the 3Ds days, been so curious ever since. I remember the DanTDM lets play of it as well :')

Thank you so much! :D
i BEGGED for this game when it released, and i remember opening my 3ds on christmas, screaming, and instantly running off to my bedroom to ignore everyone that came over in favor of booting up the game and playing for hours. even after all this time, i still boot it up at least every few months
As a trans individual I originally played before coming out and it’s so nice and funny to watch my new Mii interact in different ways I love this game so much
That's awesome to hear! Glad you enjoy the game! :D
I actually gasped when Verge didn’t show up at the beach
Here is an explanation of the 3 missing map items,
When your Miis get married and have children, the children grow up and you can choose between them living on the island or going away to become explorers.
They go to the docks (anchor symbol) until your streetpass someone and then they go and visit their island, they hang around on the other persons island at the campsite (symbol to the left of anchor) and act a bit like a temporary islander for them, they can come back to you and visit and send letters and stuff as well.
the t shirt symbol on the left is your imports/exports, upon making your island, you get an outfit you export, and streetpassing with people will result in them getting that outfit and you getting the one they export.
verge's rap actually went kinda hard
The lyrics were really written from his soul
i recall having my mii getting married, having a dog and a child with my crush and i was so happy ! it took me months to got them together and micro managing their hazardous choice.
it is such a precious childhood memory, my sister still own the game (i believe so) and it was such a daring game with a graphic style still so fun to watch with realistic hands !
in France it wasn't that mainstream except the adds but i don't remember people talking about it much sadly :c
this made me notice that theres different non-mii versions, yours is a robot but mine is a wooden toy, probably country differences
When I was 9 my best friends cousin confessed his love to me by having his Mii sing a love song about me
i still play this game in 2023-- its so timeless and you can have so much fun with it!! i really hope a switch version comes out with some upgrades.
i had taken a crack at potentially making a "sequel" obviously without Nintendo's assets but its extremely hard to make something as charming as a mii or a animal crossing character without getting a lil to close to those. maybe ill have an enlightening moment and it'll come back to me one day.
Tomodachi Life I think can get stale after awhile but even then it takes AWHILE for it to get to that point. I think this was a really good break down of what works in Tomodachi Life. I hope they make another one in the future cause I feel like you can add so much to this idea. GOOD STUFF
your essays on video games are so incredibly entertaining to watch!! c:
Tomodachi Life is truly such a charming and fun lil game, I miss playing it...
Thank you!! I didn't realize how much I missed playing the game until I started again lol
I miss it too. I'd love to pick it up again but my 3DS broke
19:23 MAN.
No but for real that's sad, I had the video in the background and I my jaw genuinely fell when it got to this part, that's sad
i adore your video essay / commentary style - well rounded and just very very watchable! thanks for giving me something to enjoy when i log on to youtube :)
watching this video gave me flash backs to being at the hospital for houuuurss visiting my grandma and just continually playing tomodachi life having the time of my life
"I like my women how I like my salad
dressed"
GOD THATS FIRE I'M SO USING THAT
I still play this game basically semi daily, its so charming and I love it. It’ll always have a special place in my heart! Hearing you explain the game to people who don’t know it makes me feel kind of nostalgic for some reason lol
this game is somehow really good at making the funniest of situations happen
Each and every day I long in wait for the switch tomodachi 3 that lets us use the new Miitopia miis.
Same imagine peoples creatvity with the editor!
i remember getting this a “graduating from 5th grade” present and i woke up at 1 am when it finished downloading that night to play it into 4 am
In the card minigame you're supposed to look at the mii's facial expression when you hover over the card.
I loved it.
My main goal on tomodachi life was to marry my anime crushes
Did you succeed?
i still have my nintendo 3ds and has tomodadhi life but for some reason the workers have wooden boxes for heads but in your video they have robot heads
I remember playing this game when I was much younger and getting really excited whenever I saw one of my Miis falling in love, since it was so rare. It would be the highlight of my day if I saw that pink icon on someone's room, and to hear that music which I don't even know how to describe with words. Also I remember saving up money for literal weeks just so I could afford the most expensive room for my lookalike Mii (I'm not egotistical... probably).
5:43 Considering I just had a panic attack and still have tears on my face, I think you accidentally created _my_ lookalike.
The myth bit with the song was the best demonstration of what makes this game great
Its been 5 years i got Tomodashi life and i still play it til nowdays, it got pretty repetitive but i love taking care of my villagers. I wish there was an DLC or an remake adding more minigames and real life events like christmas, new year etc, similar to Animal Crossing, it would be great!
given that Miitopia got re-released on the Switch with some add ons to in-between story beats with your group of adventurers having small parties in the Inn, the horse and outing mechanics to help grow the bonds between Mii's and even that insane makeup and wigs where people could make 1:1 recreations of characters from other games and even shows given enough time
and people really loved Miitopia so perhaps Tomodachi Life could make a return, but they'd probably have to fangle around with the Dual screen to one screen and the touch screen controls to regular controller movement controls, worst case scenario it gets turned into some kind of Phone game
i have so many dearly beloved tomodachi memories. i still play it to this day, even if i've reset my island a few times. there's one couple on my current island that i have failed the proposal minigame for FOUR TIMES. it haunts me. my reaction time is so so bad. please
The drama of tomodachi life made 8yr old me so happy. This was some of the drama that happened on happy island:
- I married my grandad (a really big age gap)
- my nan and mario had 5 kids
- my miis got into fights all the time it was hilarious
- proposing scared the sh!t out of me
- I made a song about my dad's farts (not lying)
- the café gossip was elite
- Judgment bay was the peak of politics in my opinion
- QUIRKY QUESTIONS 🔛🔝 I ASKED THE MOST CURSED THINGS
- the rap battles were so funny
I can't wait for the switch version as ITS CONFIRMED!!
It's confirmed? Where was that said? Also you had some very quirky gameplay and it sounds awesome
Seriously - I'm surprised you only have 3k subs, you deserve more. Keep it up!!
Thank you very much!! I'm glad my stuff can be a nice change of pace for people, even if they know all about the topic. Thank you for the amazing compliment :D
This game should be given the Miitopia Treatment
fantastic video , i enjoyed your essay sm !! it's incredibly engaging ! tomodachi life needs a comeback badly , makes no sense why nintendo won't give us what we've been asking 4 😞
Thank you for the lovely words! And I completely agree, Nintendo have to realize there is an audience for this game lol it's mad how they haven't announced a sequel yet
youre completely right whenever i see those pink bubbles i start giggling and kicking my feet LMAO
You are killing it with these videos!
Thank you!!
I had no idea tomadachi started on ds
i never owned the game but my friend did and whenever i went to her place we played it for hours and just created absolute chaos. I really hope they release it for the switch because i lost my ds a long time ago but really want to play that game again, seriously one of my favourite nintendo games ever
Someone probably said this but in the card game you can look at the Miis expression when you put your hand over a card. If they are happy you know that’s the wrong card to choose
It depends. It can happen in some games, but in others, they would have a different expression or no face change. So it's random as well
I only recently started playing this game and a remaster of it on the switch or something would be so cool, but nintendo seems to not like miis anymore
Awesome video by the way
Yeah idk why Nintendo has slowed down with the Mii stuff. They are fun games! And thank you!
One of my fav memories about playing this game was 8yo me and my cousin making weird ass songs in the theater and watching my little brother's mii fall in love with the ugliest creature we created on the island (it made him cry irl so we had to change the chara lmao)
I wish they would make a switch remake i really wanna play that game again
Yeeey I've been waiting for a new video from you! And about Tomodachi Life no less, my day has been brightened!
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy it :D
I used to recreate my bullies in the game and make them wear the other genders clothes as revenge. I was an interesting child.
Another stellar video!! So well made 🤯
Thank you!!
i didnt realise this game was so popular and sold so well? Even more crazy now they havent put it on switch... Also I just unlocked a memory lol where I made my sister marry the ugly mii i made
Instead they out miitopia
I added my grandpa but forgot to add my grandma in my most recent file and now he’s dating yoshi
I come back to this game like every 2 months it’s just so much fun
"O'Leary, O'Reilly, O'hare and O'Hara
There's no one as Irish as Barack O'Bama!"
YESS YOUU GOT THE REFERENCE!!!
I wanna make video essays like this so bad but I suck at writing and speaking
That's the exact way I was last year. I started making what I loved though and eventually I got better!
If you make a video and it's not good, it only makes you better at seeing your mistakes which makes it easier to improve. Wish you the best of luck if you do decide to make one!
Your channel is so underrated you seem to put so much effort into your videos O:
I like how the mii just said "I never get my milk from the front"
The mii games are some of my favorites, and I've played Miitopia on the 3ds for over 245 hours. I've only experienced this gane through the short demo. I've been wanting to play this game for a long time, so I should ask my friend to get it for me lel.
I made a mii for my mom and dad around the first time i played.
They broke up once, got married, got divorced, and all four of my dad's mii's kids hated him
Only the first two kids came from his first failed marriage
Bruh the depressed rap concert song was hella sick
He writes his best stuff when it comes from his heart!
one thing im sad about is that while the nintendo switch DOES have touchscreen functionality, most games are optimized to work well while docked, meaning a lot of content would be gutted (drawing on a miis face, decision beach, etc) for the sake of being optimized for non-handheld gameplay if we do ever get a port, assuming the amount of touchscreen requiring content isnt seen as a barrier of entry for development in general
The whole bit about writing the fuck you myth song was really funny, really well made video man
The whole time period around when this game came out was so amazing for me I miss those days it was a great game
