    North Korea and South Korea
Or the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea
Wait a second, North Korea is also called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea? Hahahaha that’s a good one.
Anyway... Two East Asian countries on the Korean Peninsula that are opposite in so many ways. And yet, not that long ago, relatively speaking, they were just one country. Korea.
Yeah this one’s gonna be lopsided, folks. I’ll start by showing you this, which many of you have probably seen before. One picture sums up so much, doesn’t it. Most already know South Koreans enjoy a much higher standard of living and much more freedoms, but in this video, let’s dig a bit deeper.
That said, since North Korea is such a secretive country, there’s a lot we don’t know about it. But it’s difficult for North Korea to hide the fact that South Korea is doing so much better than it, based on a variety of factors.

There was absolute monarchy, then foreign powers rule, and then corrupted internal parties rule through the military. The Vietnamese people had suffered for a long time. "45% of South Koreans also speak English" as an English Teacher in South Korea, that's a real stretch. The English language is aggressively taught and marketed as part of the national education curriculum but the metrics for testing English skill, the national high school test (내신, naeshin) and the SAT (수능, sooneung), test an overly academic, archaic, and thus absurd form of English. Korean students, who are legally required to complete their education through elementary school and reportedly soon through high school, are taught rudimentary reading, writing, and listening skills sparingly in public schools and punishingly in private after-school academies. Also this has only been implemented since around 2000. Speaking and listening, especially in tandem, are perhaps the hardest parts of language acquisition, so the vast differences between the alphabets, vocabulary, and grammar of the Korean language and English mean that any old foreigner cannot rock up to South Korea and get around easily with only English like they might be able to in France, Germany, Spain, etc.

accurate opinion. However, it is very difficult to get rid of the tremendous enthusiasm for education because it is a custom that has been passed down from ancient times.
In the Joseon Dynasty, for example, it was common for people to only study for decades, starting at the age of 5, to take an civil service exam. because the nobles and commoners were divided by whether they passed the civil service exam, not by blood.
During the military regime in the 1980s, even extreme prescriptions such as a ban on private tutoring have been tried, but all have failed.

Growing up in West Germany, nobody thought reunification would ever happen either… even though it was part of the West German constitution, but nobody took that really that seriously… Until Gorbachev, his Perestroika and Glasnost, his visit to East Germany … he went for a public walk, talked to some East Germans and basically told them in front of West German TV cameras “ everything will be alright”. Until that moment most Germans thought it will be Soviet tanks in the street again that will end the protests, like in 1953. So you never know until it happens… really the year or month it happens…. so not thinking about it constantly is rather normal, it might still happen, probably depends more on other countries such as China and its support for North Korea

Hey South Korean here, appreciate the comment. The regime will fall as all dictatorships do its just a matter when it will be. It could happen in 300 years or it could literally be happening right now as I make this comment. That said Koreans are very iffy about reunification as there a lot of deep issues that come with it. The only way I would even consider reunification is if Kim for some reason steps down and let's the North joins the south's democracy (and that a fever dream lol). Even if that were to happen though, South Korea will go through heavy economic turmoil to try and bring the North up to speed and it doesn't help that the people are all brainwashed slaves. If it isn't carefully planned this could lead to the collapse of both countries. Sorry for the long comment, I went off haha. All in all, we S Koreans don't really want to talk about reunification because of the amount of stress the topic brings up. We just kind of pussyfoot around it and hope the situation will just solve itself somehow

I'm Korean and I found a good video today. I would like to share this video to inform the younger people (Koreans) who are not familiar with the Korean War. I will definitely reveal the source. I'd appreciate it if you'd allow it.

Important to note, with the exception of nukes, most of the NK military is cold war era tech, so despite being big, we'd basically be fighting a one sided war baring nuclear weapons or foreign involvement.

Good video!! Brought back memories of when I was stationed in South Korea while in the US Army from 1992-1993 (A Company, 2nd Engineer Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Castle). My unit took a trip up to Panmunjom where the Joint Security Base is located. Got to see the North Korean troops standing guard there. We got to see the actual border where there is literally a line painted on the ground. Also, since the conference building where "negotiations" are held is actually on the border that line is also painted on the building and floor (the building is in both countries). We got to go inside the building and and walk around a table that is also in both countries with a line painted across it.
Think the table was 10'-12' long on the North Korean side, and we were allowed to walk around that table, thus getting to say that we actually visited North Kore (under North/South Korean and American guard of course).
Also, got to see "Propaganda Village" as well. Was called Propaganda Village when I was there and - yep - could see that massive North Korean flag fluttering in the breeze. We also visited the site of the murders of a few US soldiers from the 1970s at "The Bridge of No Return". The bridge is called that because that was where prisoner exchanges would take place. There was a tree blocking the view of the bridge on the south side. US troops went to cut down the tree and North Korean soldiers charged across the bridge and hacked the US troops to death with axes.
Also, Warrior Base is located not to far from the DMZ. We would go up there for training and to conduct live-fire exercises. Occasionally, IF you were looking around, you could find some propaganda leaflets courtesy of the Peoples Republic from the North. I never did find any, but had a few soldiers find some - used primarily for doo-doo paper. As noted in the video, there is also the constant/non-stop playing of propaganda music/announcements being blared from loudspeakers from the North. Made kind of hard to sleep for the first few nights while at Warrior Base, but eventually get used to it and learn to ignore it.
