I remember the earlier episodes when you were so conflicted about whether or not to cage it. I maintain there's no real overlap between built street car and focused track car. If you're in that limbo between the 2 there's too much compromise for the project to max out its potential. Now the car has crossed that no man's land it'll be a better track machine than it ever could have been. Top job mate!
I mean, I haven't even watched the video yet, but I guess if you're going this extreme in order to extract 100% of the car on the track, the cage can't be removable... That's it. On the other hand, a heavily built K24 with a huge turbo, on a partially gutted Ferrari 308 chassis, with a sequential gearbox specifically created for racing applications... Getting a car this focused for track time, means making concessions elsewhere.
I had no idea Riley had his own building, incredible workmanship by an incredibly hardworking dude. Exceptional results, beautifully filmed. Awesome. 👍
Your content is so well produced. It seems to just get better and better (which it presumably would, given you're getting more and more experienced) and it just leaves me wanting more. I can't wait to see the coverage of this thing down here in Australia. Riley's work looks stunning. His effort on your Ferrari is a thing of beauty and the Trans-Am is a masterpiece. It's nice to have such friends!
Man, I have so much respect for someone who can admit when there's someone who can do the job better than they can. And on top of that, make an entire video about the quality of the work done pushing business to his business. I would love to work with someone that can give compliments and pay respect where respect is due. I think the cage was the right decision and the work is incredible.
@@stanceworks I have seen better fiberglass work done by drunk men working in the rain on a weekend with zero skills. And yes I have worked in the fiberglass industry for over 20 years building everything from carbon fiber body kits to boats to industrial pipe work to high pressure containment vessels so I can honestly agree with you. Total junk workmanship, honestly did they even roll any of it or at least pat it with a brush to consolidate it?
I'm relieved good judgment prevailed regarding the use of this car. Cars built to extreme specs belong on track, not the street. BTW, the cage is only as strong as the chassis. Given the marginal workmanship on this car, that's a concern. Go fast, be safe. Risk your neck, not others.
Damnnn.. that roll cage is a work of art! Thanks for uploading these videos and keeping us updated on the build. Really can't wait to see you rip it on the track!
I've missed the last few episodes but man, what a video to come back to. I need to watch it again to have another look at the insane quality of Riley's workmanship, not just for the Ferrari cage but that Trans-Am!!! Unbelievable!!
This is the best for your safety. I mention in previous episodes how brutal middle engine sportscar crashes are. I have seen on TV how front and rear of Racing cars are literal ripped off on a crash leaving only the gage intact. Good job.
I was always bugged out from the driving position the ferrarri, but that dude did what I always thought you should have done, so props to both of you! Amazing results.
Good lord, that looks incredible. As much as I love these videos and would watch daily updates, we all know how long it takes for you to put them together. Just concentrate on getting it finished now so you can get as much seat time as possible, and update us from the track! Go well!
Anytime I start making excuses about my garage being small or my tools being lacking or what have you I remind myself “so many other have done so much more with so much less” and Riley building this thing in a lean to might be the absolute best example of this. Great episode, one of my favorite builds by far.
So looking forward to seeing you and the car in Australia. My sons and I are comming up from Melbourne to the event, and to celebrate my youngest sons 30th birthday. We did a trip to Bathurst for my oldest sons 40th birthday lasyt year. What a job on the cage and I have followed Rileys build from its first airings.
Mike, did you see the number of subs? It seemed like yesterday that you broke through 100k subs you’re picking up speed and you deserve it. Featuring the Firebird and your Ferrari is dope! I so love those car, you’ll be flying over this time attack track… can’t wait… it will feel like a dad watches his kid doing something for the first time! Priceless!
From the start to finish of the vid the views increased from 2k to 3.4k, amazing work by Riley, Mike any idea on added weight with the +80ft of tubing, also shifting the steering column and seat position to centre everything up in line with the pedals was pure genius 🙌🙌🙌🙌
I can not believe that nobody has brought up the fact that while watching this video and how Riley is welding!!! I began watching the video and watched how the tig torched pulsates. I'm thinking to myself like oh OK? He has a nice welder because he does it's all the time that does the pulsating automatically.... Then you brilliantly show that HE IS doing the pulsating himself manually. Does anybody not understand how much of a BEAST that makes him?!?!?!?
Excited for you bro Your Mona Lisa will soon be singing, ...and screaming, and drifting and streaking, LOL. I look forward to you meeting up with "Home Built by Jeff" as well
Can’t wait to see this thing when you get to Australia, Baker definitely knows a good car and someone with passion when he sees one! Love watching your work mate
riley's trans am is next level its a master peace it shows you dont need some crazy garage or masters degree just a passion and love for what you do and a desire to keep pushing your abilities as far as possible
Had a cage built over 40 yrs ago in a hayshed. The dude that built it made a damn good job as the car got rolled without bending it. The important point as mentioned is too make it as tight as possible to any interior metal body points so as to minimise crush in the event of an accident.
I'm excited to hear the Model A is going to be making another appearance on the channel. The "Ferrari" will be a monster on the track. That Trans Am is beyond bad ass as well. I was wondering if it was that car when I saw the preview.
Beautiful cage. Good call on the FIA bar. It's very effective. Tubes are strong in tension and compression. Tubes are very weak in bending. Vertical columns like the main hoop legs and FIA bar do the brunt of the work of keeping the roof away from your head. Consider practicing egress. Check to see if you fit through the windows, especially while wearing a helmet and hans device.
This car is fire!! Really glad to hear that the seating position is now where it should be, you deserve to be comfortable when driving this masterpiece.
Love the cage engineering and fitment. Looks like it’s gonna be a serious pain in the ass to paint, especially, for the degree of assemblage already done. The execution of the work of a guy that came out of, “mom’s backyard”, a few years ago, is exemplary.
Cover your contact points in FIA padding for track work, it looks gash but (mostly) stops shattered bones from cage impacts in the event of a roll or big off. I would also suggest you do several jump out tests (when you time how long it takes you to get out of the car). 7 seconds is a commonly used time but I would try and go until you are into 5 seconds to give yourself some wiggle room.
Hey mate, just one thing about using 4130 moly in cages here in Aus is normally you need to get them homologated as they dont meet regulations. Schedule J stipulates CDS or CDW thats normally 1020 or 1026 mild steel. Hopefully im wrong as its too late now but it may be something you want to check up on?
Takes a lot of skill to hug the interior like that. One thing that I'm confused about. I was always told that the horizontal harness bar behind the seats have to be mounted a few inches below the level of your shoulders so as to ensure you stay pinned to your seat base in the event of a rollover. Were you scooched down in your seat ?
Coolant lines front to rear, simple, thin wall stainless tubing through your cabin or whatever with fittings welded on each end, then soft tube to wherever front and rear, A/C style foam insulation tubing to cover it, hard tube for long fluid transport is the way. Awesome Work, can't wait to see it tearing up Australian pavement 👏👍😎
Wow. The level of fitment on that cage is insane. Especially for one man in two weeks! Amazing fabricator
Absolutely. That quality of work is absurd. Artisan level stuff.
Good lord Riley is a god damn wizard. There's so much precision and attention to detail in that thing it's ridiculous.

If you chosen to build a street car you would have kept it street legal so what ever you built is what you want so no regrets

I got to see Riley's car in person when he was dyno'ing it at Chuckles Garage a few months ago. Absolute stunner.
11:37 - Oh, lawd. This is incredible.
Mike never misses an opportunity to absolutely dunk on Ferrari's shoddy fiberglass craftsmanship
The further and further I cut into the car the worse and worse it gets.
It always makes me chuckle when he throws shade at Ferrari

Easily one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. Filming was top notch, narration was great, and the work Riley did was INSANE! Good job Mike.

Stacked all levels in metalwork. Artisan level of craft.

Riley's creations and fabrications are works of art.
Loved the Video, can't wait for TRACK DAY!!! Thank you so much for the content sir!
I absolutely love that Trans Am ever since I’d seen it on Hoonigan. Riley does extraordinary work
That cage is amazing. The fit and finish is unparalleled.
Damn. Quality work there.
Never seen such tight roll cage… this is insane
He did amazing on the cage. This car is going to be absolutely amazing when it's all done
What a beautiful cage, thanks for sharing with us and i hope we continue to have plenty of updates from the best youtube project ever

I’m completely invested. StanceWorks notification pops: I drop what I’m doing to watch.
Amazeballs! Can't wait to see it in the flesh downunder!
I WOULD STREET DRIVE IT! I used to daily a full cage long travel prerunner. But B.E.U.-TIF-UL build, im in love.

The cage weighs right around 86-87lbs total

My Dude! 70’ Formula 400 is one of my favorite muscle cars.
He's a Master at his craft. Thanks so much for the inside look!
Absolutely stunning work
Good gracious I love seeing TIG welding done right. Riley is an All-Star. Add to the list of epic things done to this 244GTK...

Holy!! Crap!!! That cage work is jaw dropping amazing!! So blown away by the sheer tightness of it to the cars body

I could look at that Trans Am for days and admire the love that was crafted into a car.
The 244 GTK deserves a Hot Wheels model !! ❤
The sexiest cage I've ever seen. Far out. It actually doesn't seem to have cut down your head room that much either, amazingly.

Ever since I met Riley at SEMA when he debuted his TA I've been a huge fan of his work! And to think he built that under a carport!?!?!
The Ferrari looks so good(and unique) in Arctic white with white wheels, Mike.
Don't.change.a.thing.
Good stuff! Before, I did wonder if you were been serious taking that to do the time attack the way it was. but now this is more business.
Can’t wait to see it in person one day! Do you have any footage of the rear down bars?

You’re right that cage is absolutely wild… wow

That cage and welds in themselves are art.
Speaking of pieces of art, how’s the Model A coming along?
Yep. If Riley was in my list of contacts, I’d ask for his help too. That’s very nice work indeed.
ayyyy shoutout to the ridge, thats my home track. Fantastic facility.
