I recently moved into my very own house! Check the vlog about that here: goo.gl/K18Z2e
And i've been working on some DIY project around the house. The first thing to tackle was setting up my home office with a giant diy wall to wall desk. ps. big thanks to Austin for helping me put this together!

If I were you, I'd do a finish to the wood. I just think you'll be happier with it, even if it's more work to do. Sanding and putting a clear finish on it doesn't change the look much, but the feeling.
You should use wipe-on poly (polyurethane). It protects the timber nicely and enhances the natural colour and grain (it will just darken it as tho the timber is wet!). It's also really easy to apply and comes in different finishes such as gloss, satin and matte.
Celine Ertzinger 100% agree! As soon as she spills anything or even make up on the bare wood its going to stain the wood. Need something to seal the wood even a water based semi or matte
does tung oil seal wood in the same manner?
does tung oil seal wood in the same manner?
You're totally right! Added it to my "to do" list ;)
wow this is the simplest, best, foolproof DIY desk that i find to be the most practical out of all DIY desks i've seen on youtube since every other video requires a full on woodshop. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS GEM!
My favorite easy DIY desk top is to get a flat hollow core door from Home Depot or Lowes and put it on half height file cabinets, shelf units, or the trestle style legs like you did. The hollow core door is nice and light, but also sturdy and rigid enough and they come in a variety of widths, so it's easy to have a massive, substantial work surface that's easy to move too. In college I did this and stuck the door to the cabinets with poster putty so it would stay put but also be easy to take apart when it was time to move.
Alex Reith yoooo that’s actually soooo simple and smart
That sort of clean Scandinavian style is my favorite!!
Love it too, so minimal, clean, so much space you feel very comfortable and you feel very productive in this kind of environments. Absolutely gorgeous
That desk is so cool! Also I loved the editing and format of the video. It feels personal and cozy. Love you guys!
That's awesome to hear! We love you too!
TheSorryLife hey u guys r so cool! i love watching all your vids. keep doing your thing. love ya!😙😙😙
I really loved this video +TheSorryLife. Very well put together. I do have one question, what is that clock wallpaper you have, I love it and would really like to incorporate it into daily setup. Thanks!
I like the way you wrote notes on the video. Getting the Ikea item names was helpful.
i like the tile idea! a nice way to introduce some stone type material into the room. stone, wood and metal always a winner!
I love this so much 💖 Bookmarking this for my future dream office 😍
Just a btw, you can turn the drawers around on the Alex and put on some handles if you'd like!
I've been working on my dream desk concept for a while too. I've come to realize an important part for me is also having plenty of leg space in front of me. My desk plans are calling for a desk that is at least 30 inches deep! I know it will make my desk HUGE and take up a lot of space. *BUT* I think it's a small price to pay for total desk comfort. Good luck to you! thanks for sharing!
Love it! I always need a large working space to lay out my papers and books. I find a large dining room table works great, when all the mail is removed, lol.
I like this chill format so much.
giant office #win loving the decor. loving the lumiy lighting.
I loved the "do it yourself" comment by the husband, pretty much nails it because all you did was put labels on the drawers haha
Very nice desk, I think a darker finish for the surface would have been nicer but each to their own
You have saved my life with this project idea!!! Im gonna be building a long crafting table, and this tutorial is super helpful!
Great video and pretty cool outcome. Not much DYI but the creative aspect is what draws me in. You're lucky your boyfriend is so patient/understanding, never tell someone building something for you you couldve done it yourself! Thats why it was left unfinished lmao easily coulda easily hit it w 150- 220 grit at least + stain and or finish. Never question, belittle, or over simplify a job you can't do unless you want to settle for less. People spend a lifetime perfecting something you so easily say you couldve done yourself
I like all of that workspace! Looks great. I just did a video on my desk build with a very similar idea
So cool. You could also just use flat metal brackets or L brackets on the underside to hold the wood together and even mount it to the wall for added stability. I love this. Especially just using 2x10s. So much more affordable than sheets of lumber. I'm going to do this.
I would love to have a huge desk like that! It'd fit all my sewing machines, definitely going to re-create this when my husband and I remodel our house ^_^
i love the style of this video! the hand writing on screen is cool! xo
BeccaBxo it takes a lot of effort writing that
this is lovely! i like that even though The Sorry Girls have made it big, you're still going for the less costly route in your DIYs :) also, will you be doing some sort of house tour in the future?
Always! We still love to save money and we know you guys do too! I definitely will eventually, I'm just working on a few more spaces until it feels "done
nice! thanks girls! :)
you couls get a big piece of plex glass to fit ontop of the wood for a smooth surface
Very minimal and yet so cool.
Would kill to have an office like this !!! Now this space would actually make me want to study 😂😂
There's a weird smudge on the right side
Amanda Tu It drove me nuts trying to clean it off until I realised it was on the video!
Amanda Tu I kept wondering if it was my screen. So I decided to check the comments lol
Sammme
OMG YES. I don't know how I didn't notice it the entire time I was filming. It was driving me CRAZY while editing!
I thought it was my phone screen lol
I would so love an updated version of this desk to see what they would do differently now. I’m going to be recreating this idea soon in my own space!!
This is PERFECT. I was just looking on how to do my own giant desk/DIY station and I have those drawers!
i love the unpainted, soft light wood look. so beautiful !
I'm so in love with this desk. Doing something similar in our spare room. Thanks for the idea.
Was thinking of joining two table tops from ikea using 2 trussels and two drawers so this was nice to see as an alternative too.
That's a very cool desk, and nice office space.
3:09 Soo.. you can shorten the legs ..all you don't is find the a nice flat level area..(i.e. that room) Figure out what amount needs to come off and cut a scrap piece to that height etc. now sit the scrap on the floor next to the trellis and mark with a pen or marking knife (repeat for rest of legs) then hand saw following marked guides
i like how you did your office! as a designer, I'm pretty impress by the outcome! one thing troubles me is that those planks will sag as time passes by, you need a support the center or don't put too much heavy stuff on the counter
I loved this video, very minimalistic just perfect. it inspired me to refurbish my studyroom.
Wow so simple but an amazing idea for a cheap desk! Thanks for the idea
Love this idea, get a cool-looking desk exactly the right dimensions and with exactly the right number of drawers. Might do this myself if I can afford it.
TSG are literally my fave RUclipsrs. Y'all are so creative and just awesome and I totally align with your aesthetic and y'all are always on trend! Thank you so much for being you
Okay this is a pretty cool idea for a desk. I think I'm going to do this when I make one.
beyond in loooove with this office space!! amazinggg
This video is giving me life!!! I might do this with my roommate and do two of them connected for a very large vanity area!!
O.M.G.! What a beauty! I wish my desk was at least half the lenght of this one!
So cool desk!
I LOVE this desk- so easy, and functional!!!! Thanks for an awesome video- so glad I found your channel!
loved the office
you can put a transparent plastic cover over the table, its a thick plastic sheet or a glass sheet to make the table surface smoother to work with
I hit subscribe just after looking at the thumbnail for this video. such an amazing office space.
Love this!! I love the minimalist feel the room gives :) totally inspired!
This looks really good , I would like to have something a bit similar but I have very limited space.
Oof 1:51 that left foot has to be the strongest foot ever to not even budge lol
Hi Becky!
My names Cody, I have recently just subscribed to your guys' channel a few months ago and I completely adore both your style and Kelsey's style! Your guys' projects always turn out great, especially the desk and the planter box (which might be y next project) :)
I LOVE DIYs!
I have recently just moved into a house with my boyfriend and some friends and have been hard at work making our bedroom home-y. I saw this video and decided I HAD to have this desk. So here is a comment to say thank you for the design! I am completely in love with the way mine turned out and I can't wait to start doing work on it!
I would love to share my picture with you, so let me know and I can send you what I did to mine. I had to build my own cabinet from scratch to fit the space we have, and I varathaned the table top because we always have our window open and I didn't want to ruin the wood, otherwise it's pretty identical to what you have aha
Keep up the wonderful work you two!
you should never use u finished wood as a finished product. Especially on a desk. It'll get smudgy and dirty in no time and you'll never be able to clean it because the wood works like a sponge if it comes to liquids and other dirt
Love this desk! So simple, so affordable, so cute!!!
Looks great!! Ill be posting mine soon!!! My desk is custom built as well wall to wall!! Its huge!!! All that space does come i. Handy!!! Great vid!!!
What an amazing space to work!
Beautifully done. My issue with desks is not just how small most of them are, but also the hight! I am short and i still bend my neck a lot to work even when i am watching a vid on my labtop my neck hurts a lot.
The format is really cool!
CLEAN THE CAMERA LENS
Thank god you said that, I thought it was my glasses X)
now i cant unsee it haha
I think it's some kind of terrible glow filter she added in post.
I think it's from the sun shining in.
The porcelain tile is a really nice idea.
Bruh i read “off ice” instead of “office” 😂😂😂 i cant
the simplicity is cool 😍
This is brilliant, thank you for giving me the inspiration for my daughter's bedroom.
A tip for cutting down legs- especially angled ones: Use a spacer block of thickness equal to height you want to remove then scribe around the leg with pencil using block. Then cut along line, making sure kerf of blade is on waste side of line. This works on tables, chairs, barstools, etc.
adding a clear sealer to the wood would be smart...and would reduce scuffing and marking and make water resistant...nice results ...good ideas
Love the way this came out!
I love this format and desk!
Simple build and nice design.
Thanks for sharing your idea.
This is a stunning desk! I need to make myself one just like it for my writing. I always find myself squirming for space with my little desk I just have too many books and notes and pens plus a laptop that I need all at once so a desk like this would be perfect! Thanks for this tutorial! :D
This is so pretty!! I like this style DIY too. Either way, it's always amazing!👏🏾
Thank you!
Looks awesome!! I am gonna try a version.
I just looove the desk!
Very nice inspiration. And I really appreciate you wrote the names of the products into the video :) Thank you.
Your setup is very nice. I like your desk a lot.
You guys are amazing.
When you click on a video and hear your favourite artist I love you Tom Rosenthal 😍 makes you love the video even more ^.^
I LOVE YOU GUYS!
I love it, I would have cut a small hole in the board closest to the wall so I could connect a power strip to the wall and snake it behind the desk. But this just gave me an awesome idea for my next desk.
Nice and simple set up. I dig it.
I did something similar as well I have a 8 ft white melamine board cut in two with two skinny espresso cabinets from walmart underneath, When my space grew and I needed another desk I had the left over board and bought another two cabinets and laid it across cost around $70 for one desk!
Yesss loved the chill format 👍🏻
Your room is awesome...I would drool on your desk..
hey. what?
Team work!! It looks amazing!!
That is pretty sweet! Thanks for the inspiration.
nice desk. i would also look into getting a good LED lamp. i hear really good things about the Lumiy Lightblade desk lamp.
I've been wanting to do this for the longest time!!! gotta get to it! 😋
Obsessed!
Would love to see how you decorate the rest of your house as well :)
i already like the video 10 seconds into it looks amazing
Love this! Inspired to put this in my living room!
lovvve it! I redid my office space a few weeks back and have the same chest of drawers in there now :) glad to see the similar aesthetic.
Just wow, Love you desk setup!
Great design!
that desk is bae
have you thought about putting a return on the left hand side , remove the drawers (move down or to other side)
, get another trestle and get more office space?
looks great though ?
Looks pretty nice and modern. Just that without support in the center, it is going to sag. Just like your shelf.
This is so creative. I love the use of space and the fact that a huge, wall-to-wall table works so wonderfully with the room is very refreshing! I'm so inspired by this, I would love to apply this idea to my room, but I have some concerns. I'm planning to do exactly what you did, but the table is facing a wide, wall-to-wall and low reaching window. I have enough space to install the table but I feel like the window, curtains and grills might look messy and cluttered if I faced the table in such directions. What should I do to minimise the clutter and make it look clean and neat? Thank you!
Have fun with the splinters...
I like this kind of format. iits nice :)
A few other ideas, for use in a standard-lumber-based office setup: Use smooth panes of glass on top of the wood as a finished desk surface. Any good glass / windshield repair shop should be able to supply this. I have seen a single thick pane of glass used as a cover for a round, wooden tabletop, and it works. It makes for a nicer surface to sign documents on. for the trouble you went to, you could also have done away with the IKEA sawhorse by constructing ledges of layers 2 x4s to set your lumber shelf on. Your setup is neat, but looks like it could use some cable management.
I love this desk!!! It would be so pretty if you did something with the floor :) maybe a laminate lay over or fluffy rug of some sort
I really love DIY stuff
