"Violence is necessary to what Philip and Elizabeth do for a living. But when it happens, it’s not proof of their cleverness or panache, as the deaths meted out by Walter White could be on “Breaking Bad.” Neither is violence grand or cathartic, an expression of a titanic personality, as it was on “The Sopranos.” The use of violence in “The Americans” is deliberately degrading, both to the people who commit it and to those of us who watch it. Philip and Elizabeth may rationalize what they do as necessary sacrifices they make on behalf of a glorious vision, but they’re martyrs to a false church. We know how their struggle - if not their story - ends."
Music choices on this show are always spot on
This is in my opinion, the best scene of the whole show. The combination of the music with the back and forth shots on Philip's face, and the shocked/disgusted look of the pilot, it's just awesome cinematography.
I forgot how good of a fighter and killer Philip was.
Both were badasses
I think that this was one of his major breaking points this kill and all the shit he puled with martha
This scene is so great because we see how professional Philip is - goes on automatically like a singer in a directed music video. As we all watch them as humans in the series, but then there are moments when they have to decide instantly when committing to "the mission"/"the task". And they do without hesitation, as they are trained to do.
I love this show and have been waiting for someone to post this scene
One of my favorite scenes in the entire series.
Highly recommend this show to everyone !! Great
I will never hear this song the same way again.
This was the very first scene from the very first time I ever watched this show. I had no idea what this whole series was about.
But these few minutes were so good that I was immediately hooked.
No wonder Phillip wanted out.
Okay that girl is bomb
This show is full of ohhhh my fucking good moment but this is BY faaaaaaaaaaar one of the best scean in the show
Love all the music on The Americans
I don't know, I feel like Philip would never take a risk this big that the girl wouldn't hear the commotion.
That viral thing they were smuggling was the most serious thing they’d been involved with to date.
this scene was dope AF
From now on, when I’m listening to Tainted Love on the bus, I’m automatically going to assume someone is being strangled in the back. 😂
Best show created
I'll never listen to this song the same way again
Why do they always pick pop songs for death scenes?
@@GonzoShitcockthe... inconsistency, I think. It's kind of jarring, out of place and it shocks you. You don't expect it.
@gutsfinky Man...I totally forgot I even wrote this...😀😀😀😀
So far, to date, this is the most talked about scene with music outside of its original opening sequence using Tusk in the Pilot episode. This truly gives me chills and as I posted under the original music video of Tainted Love, I will never hear this song the same way again.
Your comment was posted a year ago - but I think that there are two scenes that have perhaps surpassed it since in the brilliance of how music is used: "Slice of Life" by Bauhaus at the end of 5.10 Darkroom and "Milgram's 37 (We Do What We're Told" in the season 6 opener. In both cases, the music is what makes at least 80% effectiveness of the scene.
Three now - with that incredible train scene set to "With or Without You" as the new #1!
Two of my favourite music scenes were "Twilight Zone" (Golden Earring) and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" (Elton John)
"The Chain" and "Under Pressure" are up there
Their love for their motherland is indeed tainted!
In the end of the final episode the selection of music is 'spot on", like Wizkid66210 said. I actually got goose bumps when "Brothers of Arms" came up. Then Stan was just wandering in this "state of awakening". Dialogue is totally irrelevant.
This isn’t the full scene. The pilot had freaked out more shouting with anxiety before Philip had to choke the guy.
wonder what the final body count is after 6 seasons of Philip and Elizabeth
Elizabeth was a psycho killer, but Philip could be rough too when he needed. What struck me the most in that episode though was how reckless the Soviets were with a sample of a deadly biological agent. Samples like that should be handled with containment suits and in biosecure environments. Does anyone really believe they would smuggle it out of the country in a common box in a commercial plane in some pilot's pocket or suitcase ?
To be honest though, they did transport radioactive polonium on a commercial flight to London to poison this ex-KGB spy named Alexander (I forgot his last name). The British authorities found radioactive polonium all over the flight and even the hotel the spies stayed at and the cafe shop that they poisoned the spy at. They even found it in the teapot they made him drink from. They had all on tape. The Soviets don’t give a shit about regular people and their safety. Like all those people on the flight the hotel, those who stayed in the hotel room afterwards, the cafe worker, and the poor ex-kgb spy who was targeted. He didn’t deserve to die just cause he quit his job. This was in 2006
They obviously thought they had it wrapped up sufficiently. In all likelihood if it were wrapped under multiple layers of aluminum foil, glued and taped shut and then put inside a metal box...it's not like the germs are just going to come marching out or anything. There's no air circulation inside so it should be fine as long as it's not broken.
I stood up and said, ‘ He ADORES her! ‘
Then I discovered that he really did...I thought it was uncannily good acting.
Still somehow I was...right (???)
Man....I remember when this song was hot
Does anyone know when season 5 is on Amazon?
This feels like Collateral
was she listening to Tainted Love on loop?? The song doesn't last four mins!
GOODGUY 13 hit rewind, that tune is dope
It's 1983, 12" single mixes could go on for _double_ that. In the case of Tainted Love, 9 minutes. But I reckon she's just listening to it on repeat the way she sighs when it ends.
