Hi✌️🙂 I just ran across your channel while watching “HikingMovie”. I started with this video, as I think it’s such a great idea. I hiked from age 17 and all thru my 20’s. I’m an RN and was a single Mom, then at 29 was diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. The AS took me from most outdoor activities. I decided to begin training this year for some hiking next year. Part of my trail research was watching videos. I became so interested in the ones I watch. I’m so hopeful for and inspired by, everyone that I watch. Lol, I forgot worry about! Strangers that I will never meet but seem to care about. Thank you for taking me along as you hike. Your videos are blessings for us both! I’ll be back trekking you. Stay safe! ✌️

I believe the best way to get know someone is to observe how they react to a very, very slow internet connection. Before the internet age, my mother told me to truly know someone is to drive across country and back again.

Nice to know you better. I'm leaning towards shooting for the last week of March to hit Springer, right after my son's birthday. He will be 38. Yes, I'm old! 😁
Better late than never. Having left Springer three times, twice in March and once in late April, I wouldn't leave any sooner, in reality, because colder weather forces you to carry more insulation weight, which slows you down and makes for more nights between towns, which slows you down and...well...
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Interesting!! I’m in north GA. My family moved here in the 1920s from Saluda NC and I do know some of them were from Yancy Co. I’ve been meaning to get up that way to try and do some research on them. Not sure what I can find. These were my Great Grandparents and they were born up there in the late 1800s-early 1900s so I have no idea if I have any distant relatives there now or not.

Basically you are like me from NC all my life working on getting a farm. right now I am on eight acres working on getting a hundred more when the time comes working now as heavy equipment mechanic and working fire and rescue, survival instructor not much hiking but have done two weeks hiking in Missouri no trails we made them and got paid to do so. I make everything I can and build everything I can myself. self reliance is the future and the way it got to be. And all of it from home it is a crazy world some times we live in. Hope you get it done just remember keep a upbeat attitude with your co hiker in to the being it's great and in middle not so great but at the end if you both are still speaking to each other the best of all. My friend still not on speaking turms and that was a two week working hike yes we got paid but I think it was the relentless attack from bugs which we were not thinking about before we took the job and the cost of gas getting there but we took the job and finished it . I don't think he was cut out for being outdoors he now works in a office and pretty sure he only camps from a truck now if the bugs get to bad he can go home. You just can't do that on foot it is not a option in the middle of nowhere and your boss won't be back for two weeks .

Very interesting life up until now! The homestead was a dream of mine too but alas initiated too late in life to achieve and be successful, but I do have a lot of wilderness travel under my belt since about 31 years of age. I have over 27,000 miles of canoeing, two AT thru hikes, 1000 miles of PCT, travel extensively in Northern Canada and inside the Arctic Circle twice. I did a trip that I called the Ultimate Triathlon Vacation where I canoed from Pennsylvania to New Orleans then hiked the AT Georgia to Maine and then bicycled from Maine back to my starting point. It took me 13 months. I was able to do all of the traveling because I worked as a Paramedic for 45 years and the trips kept me free of PTSD. I worked as a white-water guide for 30 years and I lived on an island in the Gulf of Mexico for 5 years. I also have a degree in Photography and Photojournalism. I will be 70 years old next month, but Lyme Disease has taken a lot of the adventure travel out of my life so now days I just hike vicariously through others thru hikes and try to help and offer advice if needed. If I may ask, how old are you? You seem to have a very level head on your shoulders for your future and your travels. Good luck on your hike, stay safe and hike strong.

You're interesting. Hope you get your homestead someday. Don't need to win the lottery but requires money to buy and money to support the cost of ownership. To be successful, a person needs multiple streams of income. Earned income from a job; revenue from a business such as selling solar energy or produce from your homestead; RUclips video income of your lifestyle; unearned income such as dividends & interest from investments. All possible. Be careful starting business because you don't want to buy yourself a job, you just want revenue to support your lifestyle.
