I love the in-universe reason for the background music. Its tge little details that strike me. Game was fantastic, I love the open world combat vs squad combat dynamic. Makes me curious how optimal grinding works for a perfectionist like me, whether its mowing down lower lvl enemies or tackling harder enemies for more xp per fight EDIT: I also think the dungeons are pretty decent. At least the main story dungeon at the end. There was an unmarked crawlspace behind some debris which led to a spare key, finding the room the key goes to starts a peril fight and rewards a chest key for a chest earlier in the floor, but continuing on allows you to open a shortcut back to it. Sure its not ground breaking but I feel its better than saying theyre linear and straightforward.
The dungeons are fine, but it's not level design that blows me away like a lot of other aspects in the game, which is why I point it out. I do think it'll get better the further along the game gets, and I hope it does, but just off the demo, level design was nothing that stood out imo.

Yeah I'm surprised they don't have a system where you can gain some MP back during dungeons in some way. I remember Persona 3 Reload had something like this with the clocks scattered throughout random floors.
this was me also but i was cheesy and used the mages attacks on the normal enemies in the overworld to recovery MP (the mage archtypes passive skill recovers MP from defeating enemies in the overworld, also in that area the weaker ones respawn every load screen.... Yes, this is a different studio but mostly in name, as the core team worked on the Persona games and a lot of familiar systems from those games are just built upon for this game. Atlus still uses projects like these especially as references for upcoming projects, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the iteration we see here makes it into P6 in some form or fashion.

@@keblin86 No, that’s totally valid. I used to enjoy the system and I think it still works to an extent, but especially in persona, they like to drag those sections out for so long. I think it can work better if those sections are spaced out more often and aren’t so long just to progress the story. I’m all for grinding levels, abilities, and stats so long as its engaging to play. And those sections, especially, can be a bit tiring to get through, so hopefully that feels different here.
I just hope the writing will hold until the end this time. also the game default to japanese voice for a good reason imo. And it can't be a test for persona 6 when that game will be made by the P3R team mostly like and without Hashino there's little hope that they can do an actually awesome P6.
As with any big and long running franchise, P6 will probably build off of not only P5, but mechanics here that are quite literally building off of the core systems of Persona making it their own. Even if these are different studio's they still take in feedback from these games. And seeing how well these systems work already within the confines of Metaphor, it would be odd if they didn't use some design Idea's from this game and apply it to P6.
Honestly, a lot of the time it DID feel a lot like a reskin of P5. All of its game mechanics are essentially the same - the "find the weakness" combat, the personas(aspects), the morgana(fairy) sidekick, the "safe room" in the dungeons, the gradual increasing of 5 stats that don't provide any sort of feedback as to when they're actually going to level up, the "prison" otherworldly room that deals with your perso.. aspects. Actually, there isn't a single mechanic I can think of that is not lifted from persona. IMHO they played it a bit too safe with what they're familiar with. The ui is a work of art, it's actually the highlight of the game and nobody ever mentions it. Contrasting with that, the graphics are very lackluster. They seem to have tried to go for a "painterly" aesthetic, but the skybox looks like it's from doom 2, the meshes are flat and uninteresting and environments generally look like they'd be okay 20 years ago. Dungeon design (at least in the demo) is also very disappointing, consisting of plain brick walls and about a million empty barrels. Furthermore the "big city" looks very empty and not-lived-in. They've tried to remedy that with about a thousand "chatter" floating texts all around and some background voices but it just feels soulless and lacks character. The story is shaping up to be interesting, but that's to be determined after the credits roll.
The weakness aspect. To do multiple turns comes from smt not Persona get your facts right And don’t be a hypocrite we don’t say red dead is the same as GTA.
@@joseduarte2146 The weakness aspect is much older than smt. Don't grasp at straws, I never claimed p5 originated any of those concepts, I assert that metaphor copies all of its game mechanics 1:1 from the way they are in p5, down to the minute details, which, again, just feels a bit too conservative. Red dead is mechanically MUCH different from GTA than Metaphor is from P5. And also, this is not even the major downside of the game in my view, since these mechanics are good. They're just reused because the devs didn't dare to innovate. The bigger problems with the game are the ones you did not address.
@@kamshik Nah Red Dead plays almost identically to GTA just change the weapons to wild west weapons and change all of the cars and planes to horses and carriages. Also add some minor survival game elements and it's kind of a reskin of GTA mechanically. I feel like Rockstar was too conservative with Red Dead 2, they should've made it where whenever you enter a brawl as Arthur it should've triggered a rhythm based mini game, for that I have to deduct points off of GTA: Wild West 2
@@phillemon7664 strawmanning won't work, kid. And if that's how you feel, fine. But what does GTA have to do with Metaphor's inarguable lack of even minor changes to the formula?

To do multiple turns comes from smt not Persona get your facts right
And don’t be a hypocrite we don’t say red dead is the same as GTA.
But what does GTA have to do with Metaphor's inarguable lack of even minor changes to the formula?
if it ain’t broke don’t fix it 🤷
Thank god, I play with original voices. This English dub is atrocious.
Interesting. I think this is the best English dub atlus has had in their Persona style games for a long while. You're probably just used to JP voices because objectively these actors are doing a really good job for this dub.
this is the best dub atlus has ever done and its not even close imo
Fyi your comment is at the bottom of the section.
Persona 6 will much better....
Metaphor is a "meh" game
drawing conclusions about a game that has zero info released about it, and a game that has only shown the prologue is such a weird and ridiculous take
@@GRBLIN even the demo for Unicorn: Overlord was better and smaller but made me buy the game and i got hooked from the start to finish.....
This is just big "meh".....a 2 or 3 hour demo it's not "a weird and ridiculous take"....it's just my opinion
Unicorn overlord is pretty trash@@Jpcraque
@@boop733well is better trash than metaphor and both are from Atlus.....
Persona 3 Reload and Unicorn Overlord were the best JRPGs of this year by far!
