I was diagnosed with GAD and High Expressed Emotion (HEE) and have depression. I currently take 20 mgs of Fluoxetine 1 x daily and 30 mgs of Buspirone 2x a day. I might seek a psychiatrist and attempt a different med. I used to take Lexapro for 2 years but found that to be too sedating. Fluoxetine I am coming up on 1 year in September and I feel like it heightens my anxiety like almost panic like.

@@michaelthau1007yes but am attempting to lower my dose to see if Fluoxetine can handle me by itself more. Tapering slowly though.

Xanax wried great first me until psychiatrist died, then PCP moved, no doc would fill 3 mg a day, so did two-year taper and down to 0.55 and external stressors caused taper to fall and appears have protracted. Should never for long term user to taper.

You cant pick medicine. Your doctor gives what he sees is fit

Well Xanax works for me. I’m tired of drs taking me off it for no reason and putting me on things that don’t work on me. I’m 66 I think by now I know what med is working for me.

Exactly! They are afraid of DEA, even if best for long term user. I was 66 when forced to taper snd taper from 3 to 0.55 broke due to external stressors….now appears way of life destroyed protracted.

Hope your doc does not die, retire, or mive because difficult to find a doc to renew. Never taper off!

Antiadrenergics, such at metoprolol (beta blocker) and clonidine (alpha-2 agonists) have been game changers for me

I was diagnosed with ADHD and general anxiety. They gave me a generic Concerta for the ADHD and Wellbutrin for anxiety. The Concerta worked the first day. Never worked again. They doubled the dose to no avail. The Concerta doesn't feel like it does anything, but it did make my sleep deeper. I still wake up but when I am sleeping, I have much deeper sleep.

hi - since the essence of GAD is worry would not CBT or ACT be the initial treatment approach ? Having suggested this, folks gripped with severe GAD might well need medication first...great video, visuals and informative.

Hi Dr, thanks for a great video . I thought you were a bigger fan of Buspar, because you gave it such a good rating in a video that you did?

I have tryed buspar and it was great for anxiety. Also the side effects were not that bad. For my shoulder pain my doctor prescribed me duloxetine. It gave me terrible stomach pain. Also i felt like i was way too amped up. I think i have to say no to snri's and ssri's
