Goodevening from Greece, i use the Lee 100mm filter system with the big and, occasionaly, the super stopper. Keep up the good work!
Thank you
I was going to get the Benro system. I like the plastic frame they use around the filters.
Btw, nice t-shirt!
Nisi Filters here
Attilio, you are a king of long exposure photography !! Great videos !! Thanks.
Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much for this video! Don't ever change the way you do these post!
Thanks Steven!
Huge difference looking at the raw images! Haida is doing really good things! Thanks for the informative video again!
Thanks a lot!
I got tired of the blue cast on my Firecrest filters (non-ultra). I tried some Haida PRO MC 100mm filters based on an ND comparison / review article by Tim Parkin which i think is the best article on the subject, it covers many 100mm square filters. The Haida Pro MC's are AMAZING!!. Life is too short for blue color cast! Great company. Viva Haida !
👍
It's Friday evening here in Sweden and I take a look at what videos I may have missed from you. I actually missed this video! Absolutely perfect that I found it when I was actually considering buying a Hida system. And I know that you Atillio, know what you're talking about. Simply excelent. Big thanks and have a nice weekend :-)
Thanks Kalle!
Super video as always Attillio. Thank you
Thank you 🙏
Excellent comparison Attilio. Thank you.
Thank you Keith!
Just got the Lee Ultimate 77mm Kit. Love it.
Thank you Attilio, very good video as usual, I recently bought a couple of Haida filters and I'm very happy with them as well
Thank you Carlos!
Attilio , Fantastic job , I love it .
Thanks a lot Richard!
I use a breakthrough 67mm 10 stop nd filter. IT'S AMAZING. Super sharp, no vignetting, and no color cast. I sometimes use a circular polarizer over it for reflection of water. I LOVE ND FILTERS. They are amazing for getting beautiful landscape images!!!
👍
Veytron-Gaming break through is doing some great things!
Attilio, thanks for the precious information and a very unbiased opinion. That is how reviews should be. Lovely image you pulled up of the GG bridge as always a top video
Thanks a lot Anuja!
Superb presentation. Learned a lot. Many thanks!🙏😊
Well I’m glad about that , i just bought the Haida system 2 weeks ago here in Australia for about that price , I bought it after seeing the magnificent results that my fellow photographers in Indonesia were achieving on Instagram , thanks for the comparison of the two , look forward to playing with them and having some fun , as always great video and thankyou .
👍
Many thanks Attilio, usual high standard. Only you can make a technical video entertaining.
thanks a lot David!
David Romeo extremely educational and easy to watch!
@@molopez619 thanks
thank you Attilio for this material, I have a Haida system and it's OK!
👍
Amazing pics in display !! 😍😍
Thank you!
Or, you can spend a lot of money and buy the Breakthrough Photography filters and not worry about that color shift. But no grads or hard edge options, they are circular only.
Nice explanation of the difference and use of ND/s and CPL's.
Thanks for another excellent video.
Thanks Steve!
Great informative video... again! Just really starting to get a feel for taking long exposure and when I tried in the early part, I was worried about the colour tinge but happier now that I know that filters can produce the tinge and that it's normal. Many thanks
Thanks Conor
Dear Atti, pretty late to put a comment here. But I think, I have mentioned to you that I am using the Rollei filter system. It is similar to Lee, but with a little difference. One can put a polariser & rotate it just like the Haida system, very convenient. The Rollei came with a huge collection of adapter rings. Few of the shots one can see in my Instagram, which I shared with you. The pandemic almost made me forget that I have a dedicated Instagram account for my photos. Stay safe & healthy.
wonderful and useful video, thank you Attilio
Thank you mate!
Have been using the Haida filters for 12 months after using Cokin. Very happy
👍
Great! This is the way how a comparison should be done. Always top videos! I'm using the cheaper HAIDA 100 system and feel really good with it. Thanks a lot for your precious informations.
Thank you Giuseppe! :-)
Great VDO and I found it at the right time . I am new and looking for one set for myself . the VDO help me a lot.thks
Thank you 🙏
Hi Attilio, I just bought the Haida filter M10, can’t wait to try it, I was using the ND variable filter and did not like the results since there is a distortion in the corners when you max it out to 8 stops...can’t wait to try the Haida and you should definitely have a link to sell their products and make some commissions...you deserve it since your videos are watched by many and extremely appreciated! Grazie Mille
Thank you 😊
Great! Always good videos!
thanks!
I have both systems and they both work well. I do prefer the Haida because of the drop-in system. I'm a hiker that works in wet and dusty conditions. I like the Haida Drop in circular Polarizer (CPL) much better than the Lee because I am able to keep it clean. Because you grip the drop-in CPL by the top I don't get it dirty taking it on and off like I do with the Lee system. I also find rotating the CPL quite easy with the Haida system. There is just no way to keep the Lee system clean on a 90-degree day with sweat pouring off your body. And on rainy days the CPL or other drop in Haida Filters are recessed (sit back) in the holder and actually stay dry which is great in the Pacific Northwest. Haida has Drop-In ND filters as well which I like. I use the 6 stop ND filter which comes with a rotating circular polarizer so it is two filters in one. I also have the 10 stop ND filter which is also a drop in filter which works well. I'm also still able to use my Lee graduated filters with the Haida system although they are a little tight when first inserted in the Haida holder. I agree with Attilio that you can fix the color cast of the Lee filters in Lightroom. If I was starting all over I would go with the Haida system as it is better suited for an active hiker/photographer.
Thanks for your feedback John!
John Callery you are quite the enthusiast! 🙌🏽
Спасибо
John Callery
Стою на краю выбора между всеми мнениями о фильтрах , Вы и Attilio Ruffo помогли мне сделать шаг и это- Haida!!!
Great video Attilio, Like you i have the old Lee kit, with the little and big stopper plus polarizer, but i mostly only use the screw on 10 stop Breakthrough filter as it's small, easy and no colour cast
Thanks Adrian! 👍
Atilio, we are still waiting your video related your great time lapse videos. Haida looks OK, but I continue to prefer Lee even more expensive. Thanks for one more great video.
I know I am late! :-)
Grazie Attilio per i sempre utili consigli!!! Ho acquistato qualche mese fa lo stesso kit (M10, ND 1000 e GND 3 stop), devo dire che è un sistema davvero ben fatto.
Grazie Stefano!
I bought a circular 10 stops Haida ND filter a few years ago just because of it´s price. Now I am absolutely convinced that it is a great quality filter also. Then I purchased the 6 stops and a soft and of course a filter holder. Much cheaper with amazing results
👍
Good video as usual. I've been using the Lee system for about 7 years and love it. I was surprised to hear you say that the Lee system needed an adapter for their circular polarizer. I have the 105mm filter and it simply screws into the front of the filter holder. You also said you have to rotate the holder to adjust the polarizer. I can independently turn the polarizer without moving the holder. Not sure why the difference. I have never found mine to have such a dramatic blue color cast. Lee tells you that the filters aren't a perfect 10 stops and each varies a bit. This may explain why the Haida filter was lighter than the Lee. I personally liked the Lee final image. Guess I'll stick with the Lee but I'm toying with the idea of getting the new holder.
Thanks Reid, I need to rotate my holder as I am using a squared polarizer filter...
Haida Filters. I am very happy about. Perfect!!!! 😎
👍
As a photo enthusiast one reason I don’t use filters it the expense of the Lee system. This side by side comparison makes me more secure in the purchase of the Haida if I choose to purchase filters. As always a great video and wonderful images.
Thanks mate! Filters are expensive, but getting started it is worth while...
Petes1800 i would definitely go with Haida
depending on the lens you use i would suggest looking at OWl lense adapter which has a drop in filter slot for 52mm filters. I currently bought one for my samyang 14mm 2.8f lens, havent tested it yet, because Iam waiting for my 52mm filter to arrive. Adapter cost 100$ and a 52mm screw in filter from Haida another 30$. This is probably the cheapest option for this lens, since any square filter system would cost at least 200$+
This is probably the very best video on ND filters that I have seen. I have a variety of Lee Filters NDs that I use. After watching this video, I may start switching to Haida for several reasons. This video is very informative and detailed. Thank you for the upload!!!
thanks a lot Michael, I did change to Haida as well... :-)
Try the Nisi filters if you can ,before switching to haida .
@@MrLsdluis :-)
@@AttilioRuffo My response was to Michel mellen 😁😁😁,but is good for you also 😁
@@MrLsdluis ops... :-)
Hello Attilio, very interesting indeed! Loved the easy use of the Haida system which I believe will become very popular if you are into a new filter system. However, I presently own all the Lee system and the new Lee holder and polariser. So, very unlikely that I would be changing anytime soon. For as you know (all) filters are expensive. But if someone was buying for the first time, I believe Haida could do very well...
thanks Allan!
Thanks for your videos they are very educational.
thank you Ricardo!
Nice video, Attilio. I've been used a firecrest filter, which is very good. But as I damaged it (fell out of my hand) I decided to try the Haida ... I'm waiting for my order arrives
Thanks 🙏 I think you will like your new filters...
Nice comparison video Attilio. Unfortunately it came a little too late for me. I bought the Lee100 system “deluxe kit”. Still I’m very happy with it. Also in your final side by side I actually preferred the lee image as it was. Cheers, Dave.
I agree that the final image came out better with the Lee...
Got it. Searched your videos and got information on ND filters and the two common ones you use.
👍
Im going with screw in type filters. Plenty of rain around Seattle and the M10 system is probably not too practical for me. (Haida US has free shipping and no tax right now) Nikon Z camera and lenses are pretty solid in damp weather. (Not pouring rain of course)
Congrats on this video, and also by others
Thank you Pablo!
Excelent Attilio!!!
Thank you Ignacio!
I have had the older Haida system for a couple of years and have been happy, but I am considering upgrading to their new holder since its less fussy to mount.
👍
Great video Attilio. I use the Formatt-Hitech system, which also has a wheel to adjust the polariser, so much easier I think. If I was to switch the Haida system would probably be my choice, I have never really liked the Lee system, I hate that blue colour cast. I do also use Zomei filters and find them pretty good especially considering the price difference. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks Tim! 👍
My favorite, Bway Optical systems
I love my Haida 150 filters. I brought them December 2018.
👍
Very good information. I'm using the Lee system now, with the 10-stop and 3 ND grads. Switching would not be too difficult should I decide to do so. The Haida system looks very good, and with a bit of additional research I may switch. The glass vs. plastic does seem like a good idea.
Thanks David! Both systems do work well...
Thank you for making a high quality video. In my opinion, the filters are not that important because you can use any filters with either holder. The only unique filter item is the Haida drop in polarizer, which you didn’t use in this evaluation. I think the important consideration is the quality of the holders. I have an older Lee holder which I didn’t like. I was always afraid it would fall off the camera. I have just ordered the Haida M10 kit which comes with the polarizer but no filters. I have firecrest 4,10, and 16 stop Nd filters which I plan to use with it.
Attilio, I've had great success with B+W glass filters, both round, 100 x 100, and 100 x 150.
👍
great vídeo! Thank you!
Thanks Rui!
Great video Attilio .If you have the chance try the NISI filter kit.In the video ,you change the filter holder. The Lee filter don´t fit in the Haida filter holder?
Thanks Luis, unfortunately most Lee Filters don't fit in the Haida holder...
I have the Haida 150 series for the Tamron 15 - 30 G2 on my Nikon D850. Only have the 10 stop ND at this stage but is a great filter set.
👍
Thanks Attilio. You should try Kase filters. Very high quality and virtually indestructible. I've been using them for around a year now and really happy.
thanks Steve!
I was indeed looking for ND kit, and I guess I made my choice 😁
At the moment I use screw-on filters and they are a bit of a pain to swap out.
Even though, to be fair, it would been better to compare with the new LEE filter model.
I hope to try the new Lee Filters kit soon...
Grazie attilio
👍
awesome video as always! Attilio try the new ProGlass IRND stoppers from Lee Filters, they are very good in quality and no more blue color cast.
Thanks Luis, I am curious to try the new IRND series...
Luis Carlos Rosales Barbier I’m gonna research those filters now!
Thanks for that info looking to buy a system. I see pluses and minuses from both systems.
Attilio Ruffo I live in San Jose and have the new LEE system plus the IRDN 6 and 10 stops...happy to let you borrow the system to compare. Btw, thanks for your videos and inspiration !
Maybe we can arrange that ... :-)
Hi Attilio: Thanks for preparing this video. I have been shooting with the Lee Filter System for over 8 years so I have the older style filter holder. The expansion of the filter market has been incredible over the past few years, so I am always looking at new kit. I have narrowed my selection down to Kase Filters, Polar Pro and Breakthrough Photography Filters. Have you considered updating your review of different filters? I have already watched your video from August 29trh, 2019 on magnetic filters. Regards, Keith
🙏
HI Attilio, I am a fan of your vlogs . They are wonderful and explains everything . Recently I purchased Haida MC 17 STOP ND filter circular . Let me know , is it good enough for landscape photography . Thank you
Five years ago, I bought for less than 20 bucks a set of 8 GND filters, 49 to 82mm lens adapters, filter holder and a carrying bag. Well, I'm still trying to take some beautiful pictures like yours, but I think that I need a prescription to renew my eyeglasses.
👍
Great comparison of the filter system, Amazon shows two Haida M10 systems, the Haida M10 enthusiast kit and the Haida M10 enthusiast Kit II, what if any is the difference between the kits, as always you present great videos, enjoy watching them
thanks...not sure about those kits differences..
attilio, great comparison of the filters.I just bought my first 0.9 nd medium grad and 0.9 nd reverse for sunsets. do you think these 2 are a good starting point? together with the 6 & 10 stops drop in filters
thank you!
Good job! Tks
thanks!
Just bought the Lee system last month. Good video comparison
Hi Gary, did you get the Lee 100?
@@AttilioRuffo Yes, with polarizer, Big stopper, Little Stopper, a 3,6,9 ND soft grads, and a pouch, and I also just purchased a histogram T-shirt
@@gburleson321 I appreciate that Gary, thanks!
Gary Burleson I was just about to write literally exactly this haha
Thsnks for the review, the video and comparison was helpful.
Both systems seem to deliver good quality results but there is a difference in bang for the buck.
Thanks again.
Amazing Video
Thank you my friend!
@@AttilioRuffo Welcome
Great video
Thank you!
Nice!
Thanks Jason!
Thanks for the video. The difference in the unedited images makes me wonder whether the Haida actually gives you 10 stops. Hmm?
Yes, Vince...it might be 9...
Thanks for amazing inspiration and good videos! You have inspired me to try out long exposure daytime but I need some gear to manage that. Do you have any advise for what filter system to buy/get into?
I See in you video: Long Exposure Cityscapes Episode 3 that you are using a PolarPro system. It this the “correct” way to go? Or Lee / Haida like you say in this video?
Thanks Christian. I will go through different filter systems soon... hope it will help you!
I do like the b+w filters for the price.
Great video, thanks Atillio. After you removed the blue color cast in the the side-by-side comparison -- it looked to me that the Lee image contained more usable data. I base that on the appearance of the two histograms, and on general image appearance. I'm watching your video on a 4k monitor and have a very fast internet connection. But since I'm not able to view these images directly, but only through your video I have this question: Do you also see a difference in the amount of usable data available in the images between the two systems?
Thank you! I did see a little more definition and I think I mentioned that in the video...
Attilio, a good video against an alternative system. it would be good to do a greater range of filter systems. I chose the NiSi filter kit. There are no colour cast on the images and the filters are well made with glass and include a CPL. The case is worth the money alone. But you've started some good thoughts for people interested in investing in a filter system which is never cheap.
I will need to try the Nisi as well!
This is a very good comparison-it makes sense. It looks you mainly use 3 stops GND and a10 stops ND besides CPL. Did you experience any light leaks?
thanks! No light leak...
I have moved to Haida Nano Pro circular filters .... CPL and ND ..... although I don’t have the ability to use grads (I need to focus blend instead), I screw the filters together with screw on caps, front and back, and all filters can be slipped into a pocket - takes up little space.... The Haida filters have been excellent and were about $60 USD each including postage
👍
I have always used Lee system but really like the Haida holders. Going by the histogram I would say the lee was better as the skyline wasn't blown out. That may be you didn't adjust the filter down as much?? But the whole idea is to stop down the highlights right, so I like the Lee better in that respect. I will have to check into that Haida system. Thanks for your perspective.
👍
Use HAIDA, 15X ND. Fantastic.
👍
Thank you
Kevin Jack Birchfield 👍
Attilio 🤔 what padded filter case do you use for you 8 stop and Grad filters? Thanks Richard
I keep every filter in this Filter Pouch - amzn.to/2yz1Vmr
Love mind shift gear!
Hi Attilio, which filter pouch are you use and could you share the brand brand and model with me? Thanks Ilja
attilo I used lee filter system until I discovered wine cou8ntry camera filters, you should check them out
cool, I will look into it...
I also saw some vignetting on the bottom left corner with the Lee filter. Any comment on the NiSi system?
didn't try the Nisi yet!
I've been using Breakthrough filters. They screw in and quite honestly they are a pain some times to attach to the lens. Other than that, they work pretty good -- no color cast and clarity is great.
👍
Attillio, did you set white balance to Auto on the camera when you shot the images, or did you use the same WB setting for both images?
I used the same WB!
Has anyone tried the round Kase system. It is magnetic for easy changes and very portable. Sharon Tenenbaum is now using round Kase ND filters.
Attilio, Can you talk about Long Exposure Noise and how to reduce it? Thanks.
I will do, in the meantime you might find this video useful ruclips.net/video/VjP_Wmq6LMI/видео.html
Hola, gracias . No me queda claro cual es de vidrio y cual es de plastico, si el Haida o el Lee?
I've been looking to purchase the Lee Filter system. I was actually hoping that they would go on sale during Amazon's prime sale but they didn't. If I remember correctly I saw the price of $773 for the Lee filter system. The difference in price between the Haida and the Lee kit is that with the Lee kit you get 3 graduated ND filters. I checked the Haida and that kit only offers one graduated ND filter. I couldn't find a kit that offers 3 graduated ND filters for Haida. You can correct if I'm wrong. Thanks for another informative video!!!
Thanks Patty, the kit from Lee I saw had just one GND, maybe now they have something different available...
@@AttilioRuffo This was what I was looking at: www.amazon.com/Filters-LEE100-82mm-Special-Landscape/dp/B07PPJDZH6/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=Lee+pro+filter+kit+82mm&qid=1563540814&s=gateway&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1. I sure was hoping it was going to be one of the sale items but it wasn't. It does say it has a graduated ND set of .3, .6 and .9 soft edge. I figure that's why there may be a big price difference. Well, I've decided to make the plunge and get a set. I love all your videos and tutorials. I've learned so much this last year and am very thankful to you and to the others I've learned from. I look forward to your videos each week.
@@pattymattes7124 Not completely sure but I believe that the Lee 100 special landscape system is a mix of glass and resin filters. The Haida filters are made of optical glass. If all the Lee filters are made of optical glass then that seems like a good deal but seeing how their optical glass filters sell individually for around $237.00 and up , I doubt they will all be made of optical glass. Good Luck.
@@slowlyrusting4044 I totally understand what you are saying. I did look at the Haida filters. Yes, they are glass. I wish they offered a ND grad set instead of just the one ND grad. Even if they are resin I like the idea of being able to have 3 different strengths of ND grads so I have a choice as to knocking down the brightness of the sky rather than be limited to only one strength ND grad. Hopefully Haida will see this comment or someone who can contact them and ask them to start carrying a set of ND grad filters with their kits. Even Cokin has a ND grad set. If Haida does offer a ND grad set please share the link. I looked and I couldn't find where they offer a set. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong place. I don't know. All I do know is that I would prefer a set that offers different strengths than just being limited to one ND grad filter. That's just me. BTW, I did started out with buying a Cokin ND grad set. No, I'm no expert and I'm still learning. That's why I so enjoy these tutorials/videos from Attilio Ruffo.
Hi Attilio, can You pls make an video about megapixels. I am little confused this days since Sony a7r4 came out. So is d810 or xt3 not worth cameras. Or what that means 61 mp or more on dslr or mirrorless.
Interesting topic... I might do something about it! 👍
Ive just upgraded to the lee filter system(old), i dont get that blue cast that you show, i do set my white balance manually for each scene though, could be the difference
Possibly the newer series doesn't get the blue cast, I don't get the blue cast in the 6 stops but just in the 10 stops...
Thanks Attilio. Is that a Thomas Heaton T-shirt?
what??? that's my Histogram TEE!!! :-)
I have Haida 100 and 150 Filter System. Pol filter on the 150 system fall off with the front part of the filter by rotating. Now I have Wine Country Filter System and I look to no other systems. Is perfect, no friction, secured, no fingerprints on glass no color cast.
A little out my price can you compare with cheaper like Amazon filters
Wow, now I am really confused about what to do, I have older Lee holder along with big stopper. Not sure whether to continue with Lee or jump to Haida
Lee is good too! I have been using it for years...
Hi! I cannot find a 10 stop nd filter and a 3 stop graduated on my budget :( do you think circular filters one and the other should work for circular nd filters??? Or any idea about a system as those you show but less expensive? I found extremely cheap and probably so bad optiones or really expensive ones...
Hi Lucia, check out my video about the Freewell magnetic filters, that could be a good solution...
Dir sir plz can make a video for choose a good monitor.
which monitor can see accurately colours even landscape or potrait.
thanks.
I might do that...👍
waiting hope see it soon..
hasan mahmud 👍
Attilio, that was an excellent comparison of the two ND systems. I believe the value is certainly with the Haida. That will be a real contender. Right now I am using the K&F Concept Square Filter ND1000 ( glass) 100x100mm 10 Stop Neutral Density with One Filter Holder and 7 Filter Ring Adapters Compatible with Canon Nikon Camera; and it is working nicely for me while training to learn how to use it for LX... I shoot from that same spot a lot at GG but you have that magic.. you can see mine at www.pic-us-america.com... click picture frame next to orange smiley face.. see if you can see Washington's profile : ) at GG. Love the Tee Shirts .. will be ordering when I get back from Hawaii. Aloha!

Thanks Ela, Aloha! :-)
Thumbs up! :)
Thank you Boris!
I bought the Haida system and it came today. It seems to be as indicted in the video. Pictures tomorrow.
👌
I tried the Haida filter system out today and was quite pleased. The one thing that bothers me is that with the Haida holder in place, it is not possible to put a lens cap on the camera. I spoke with Haida USA today and they indicate that they hope to have a solution for this in the next months. I guess that I'll have to wait till I get set up at the photography site to screw on the holder.
A long exposure predawn exposure had a significant blue tint that was corrected in Lightroom.
The best ND filters are made by Wine Country Camera (WCC). They are light tight and do NOT produce any color cast. The quality of the holder, the glass and the frames that hold the filters are by far the best I've ever used. I've owned Lee and Hi Tech filters - both of which produced very strong color cast. Actually, WCC is a California based company (as the name implies), so I think they're in your part of the country. Since long exposure photography is your speciality suggest you check them out.
Thank you Clyde, I never heard of WCC, I will check it out!

I'm a Nisi Filter user. Much less of a colour cast than my previous LEE Filter kit.
