No-one has a voice like robin or any of the beegees it's unique stunningly beautiful
It's very 90's and just shows how they changed and accommodated the era that they were in.
This was actually released in 1990
I can understand why this song got so many requests. "Bodyguard" is a great smooth R&B song and Robin's vocals are outstanding, It was from the Bee Gees great late 80's comeback album here in the states, One. It didn't matter what decade, the Bee Gees always wrote and recorded great songs. Don't forget to react to younger brother Andy, too.
I love all their music and all their voices but Robin's voice is the voice that gets me emotional
Now how am I going to calm down after that? I just love Robin's voice in this register. The sensuality is right in your face (yeah!). Robin's voice is like honey in this one, and the chorus unison and harmony were just perfect. Throw in Barry's lines for some great contrast, and wow, enjoy the chord progressions. I heard Mo's influence all over that chord structure. You can't go wrong with these brothers. Any of them could have "guarded" me.

There are two versions of this song/video: the radio edit which was used for this video and the album cut which had a slightly more racy video that played after midnight on the music video channels, especially BET's Midnight Soul program.

YES this is such a sultry slow-jam, and one of my favourite bee gees songs in general. my favourite era of the bee gees’ music is their 80s catalogue, and this song is a great example of what shines about it: the harmonies are warm and full, the lyrics are gorgeous, and robin’s beautiful vibrato just washes over you. i might be getting a bit ahead of myself here, but anyway thanks for this video, i loved your reactions!

Even though this song is on his solo album it actually is a Bee Gees song that had no home at the time since they didn't come out with "E.S.P." until 1987. Of the late 80s Bee Gees I would recommend "Live or Die (Hold Me Like a Child)". I know a few people did suggest it already, so I add my voice to that. It is not Robin-led, alas, but Barry shines on it, and the arrangement is gorgeous. Have a go at it ))
Patty-You should check out Sensuality which was never released. There are are quite a few videos floating around now. And Mr Robin is the solo on this one. His voice sounds silk or Satin. He goes a little lower in places. There's no way you won't like it.

"Bodyguard" was the second American single from the Bee Gees' One album. "Bodyguard" was a cassette-only single released in early 1990. Hey Mom, have you explained cassettes and rotary phones to your daughter? Only kidding...I hope.
The original video was deemed too sexual and was subsequently toned down. The controversy of the video hurt airplay of the single, though it charted well in the Adult Contemporary market reaching number 9 on Billboard.
Interesting that it broke the Top 10 on the AC chart which is usually filled with softer, more conservative songs, yet it couldn't get any traction on the main Hot 100 chart. It should've been a huge hit.

First time hearing this great Bee Gees song! Another good oldies tune featuring Robin is named Mr Natural, done in a live performance on the Mike Douglas show many years ago.

Another great one by the Brothers Gibb. Thanks to both of you, my appreciation of these guys has grown. There is a RUclips video of them singing a song called Medley back in 1963. I saw it. It’s a lot of fun watching them sing in that video.

Also in this song Barry did use his falsetto in the, but only in the harmonies, you might be able to hear it in some parts of this song. For example the final line in this song.

This version of the song fades out right before Barry does a falsetto ad lib "cry" on the longer album version.

@Susan Hunter Yes, as GSTE said, it's an ad lib, a beautiful soft cry rather than a loud shrill one. The music fades, he cries, then the music comes back. I mentioned it because some people have only heard this editted version of the song and don't realize it goes on for over a minute longer on the cd.

Kinda crazy, but that song from first time hearing it until nowadays didn't touch me very much. But it's good, so don't get me wrong. More of interest to me from the album 'One', are the leadvocals of Robin on the tracks 'Tokyo Nights' and especially 'Flesh And Blood'. I really love that song. Perfect excample for masterly songwriting, combined with creative instrumentation. No need to talk about their singing. But the whole album is so, so good at all. You reacted to the song 'One'. A big hit in Germany was also 'Ordinary Lives'. Another must to check out forya would be 'Wish You Were Here' an outstanding piece of love, dedicated to Andy, who sadly passed away at the time he was supposed to be a member of the band. Be sure to have hankies near by.
Funny, I really like "Bodyguard" and "Flesh and Blood," but "Tokyo Nights" never did much for me. At least we can agree on "F&B."🙂
