  • In this video, we’ll focus on the stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination that older adults have to face, as well as how these can affect older adults in various contexts. We’ll discuss the paradox of being biased against your future self-since everyone ages-and why having a more optimistic outlook on getting old can benefit everyone.
Ageism: Negative attitudes, beliefs, feelings, and behavior toward people based on their (typically, old) age.
Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Phenomenon in which the awareness of some expectation causes a person to behave in ways that confirm that expectation (e.g., an elderly person acting feeble because this is what others expect).

Thanks for this info, Dr. Storage. As a 56-year-old woman, it feels like I'm basically invisible as I wander through life. I vacillate between dread of aging and looking forward to living my best life post-retirement. Seems like I need to stay focused on a positive outlook!
