And it was directed by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time, Peter Weir. His body of work speaks for itself --- here are some of the more memorable ones --- *_Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave, Gallipoli, The Year of Living Dangerously, Witness, Dead Poet's Society, Fearless, The Truman Show, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World._* He was a tremendous talent, who deserves far more credit for his work.

I remember this film so well, after Star Wars, it was the next film that I saw twice in a theater. I wanted to see it so much when it first came out, nobody was interested in seeing it with me. I went by myself and thought it was one of the best films I’d ever seen. It was enough for me to convince some friends to come with me again. They agreed, and I was thrilled when Linda Hunt won the Oscar. I just knew she would.

One of the most beautiful voices any actress has ever been blessed with, which is why it is so often used for narration. Probably the shortest winner in this category except perhaps Anna Paquin. I thought Dyan Cannon was going to pick her up. Hunt's performance in The Year of Living Dangerously is a phenomenon--daring, feisty, and sweet.

I love her...she touches me somehow. Check out her expression when, in "year" she sees a car in front of the bungalow, touches the bullet holes, and smiles tenderly when she realizes the lovers are inside her home. She (as Billy cannot have Jill but is happy Gibson can. A great heart....

That was a lovely acceptance speech by Linda Hunt (& a great performance in a memorable film; especially (for me) when Sigourney Weaver's walk in the rain to find Mel Gibson. ~That~'s a love scene, made in the 'old way' -not showing a lot of unnecessary skin, but still showing the heat b/w the two characters. It's almost palpable, the attraction/passion/love b/w Weaver's character & Gibson's. The soundtrack helps, too.)

Love cher in Silwood, and glenn close but I love Linda Hunt in "The Year of Living Dangerously". That woman is a force in everything she does. Watch her also as a judge in the practice or hear her voice in the great tv show "Carnivale" (as management).

@MsAlleybear - Val Kilmer is sitting to Cher's right and I think the young boy is Elijah Blue, her son with Greg Allman.

As Linda grasped the golden idol, the sun's fierce rays pierced through the dark clouds, and lit the way to the temple of Ares.
