I took my philodo H8 down a long dirt-ish trail, a bit bumpy on some spots lol but 30mph down that was fun, and my ebike before that only had pedal assist and was slower but I took it to our dunes area all along the sandy trails, makes a good workout and a sketchy ride lol

Same here 😅 I got a RadWagon for my family, then I got an Ariel Rider for me, and now I just got an Aniokii A8 Pro Max dual motor as my sports car and long-range commuter 🎉
Upgrading the rotor to one with two metals, so the central spider is a different metal bolted to the rotor, will help massively with brake fade. Given how easily that thing picks up speed I would definitely want to upgrade the brakes.
Be careful with bicycle floating rotors, almost every one I've seen use thin metal washer's that can rust out and fall apart ! They got to use stainless washers like motorcycle one's
Under UK law, having a twist throttle makes it not a ebike, and not having pedals makes it not an ebike. That makes it illegal. I guess that's why America is the land of the free. Frankly, what you have there is an electric motorcycle with bicycle brakes.
I have a similar build. Thing is an absolute hoot, but the power off the line is something to respect... which I didn't and I smashed myself up pretty good. Back on it after a bit, now on power level 6
i raced a 150cc honda dirt bike around a trials course with some stretches and jumps on my bosses surron and i whooped the dirt bikes a**. they are pretty fun to spin around the corners on the trails they feel light like all the weights on or right under you
This is so true, it is about how you ride not what you ride.❤ WIth these things you can fly under the radar almost everywhere, but you also most definitely can draw attention to you if you are asking for it.
I would definitely upgrade the brakes. Mountain bike brakes are intended to stop 250 pounds from 25 mph, ao they are totally inadequate to stop 350 pounds from 50 mph.
To be honest I enjoyed watching beautiful Santa Monica more than information's in the video. Not that it was boring or something. I love the video. It's just that place can't be beaten... the weather, people, beaches, ocean, houses along the beach.
I like how he calls the power modes " power assist" like you would on a power assist pedal bike. Unless you are waddling that thing around like a kids balance bike, those aren't " power assist" as they aren't assisting any effort. They are just power modes, same as you find on most modern motorcycles. Calling this thing an ebike is kinda a joke. A bycycle, by definition, has to be pedal driven. This guy has got the same "pedals" i have got on my Tenere 700. Accept i would call them foot pegs. These things are super cool, and i may buy one someday, but as both an avid cyclist and motorcycle rider, i think it's pretty obvious which direction these things lean.

Hmmm It's not wise choice to use bike brakes on motorbike. If you want to have brake wat may be strong enough there is just two options out there. 1. Magura Gustav M ( Very old but still possible to find in good condition) 2. Gator 8 piston insanity ( newer seen one in a wild, probably impossible to get one) Of course need to be paired with good pads and 2.3 mm thick rotors to perform.
China has a liking to use bicycle brakes and suspension, although they make some great knockoff dirt bike brakes and forks and shocks that wouldn't add anymore to the cost. Not sure why Suron and Talaria use bicycle components. The Rawrr Mantis has bicycle brakes but they are a LOT better then our Talaria, not and day...still I think they need to just go to a dirt bike caliper, rotor and levers. Even the Apollo RFN aka Beta Expolrer uses bicycle components. It's an odd China thing, same with using 19" wheels...LOL
@@Meekerextreme well you are right. Author of this video says it has 12kw ( 17 hp) of power...... 50 cc mopeds what has quater of that from factory have better brakes.
Bought it few months ago. Ride it to work and back + joyride😂 it's really worth in my opinion. Finally i can skip all traffic along the road way to my home😂
It's nice, I live in socal too but I can't justify the price tag. You dont need to spend 10k to go 72mph. The ariel x-class 52v (on sale for $1800 right now) and a 5000w conversion kit (about $1000~), plus a second battery (varies) will get you up to around 62mph. This is just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's many other options for the x-class. Those tires arent very fat, either. So, I like it and I appreciate the contribution but I personally wouldn't ride it. And be careful in the city, always assure everyone is an idiot and that there are cops on every corner.
The main difference with the SurRon class bikes are that they can used for proper off roading. Any hub/mid drive ebike wont have the same handling if you're looking for some fun in the woods! Plus there are other similar options now available at 72v out of the box for around $4,500
If you've ever ridden one (I have) just remember it's essentially a 3/4 size bike. Compared to an actual 200cc+ 2stroke dirt bike, it's short wheelbase, small wheels, and won't take the same level of punishment that an actual dirt bike will.
We got a Sur-Ron and it climbs hills so good and acceleration is crazy. I got two batteries and can travel about 50-60 miles. Put a thicker seat on too. On second set of tires now.
@@aaaa1953 thats impressive, I was looking to upgrade mine but wondering if its worth the cost. I think I'm getting around 35-40km max but thats hard riding
For 10,000 smakers I could get a nice used 1200 Kawasaki and have a lot of fun on two wheels and have about 5-6K left over to spend, I would not have to worry about someone snatching it and throwing into their pickup. For sure the ebike is cool and unique and you can get away with riding it in places where you couldn't take a motorcycle but you can't take any passengers and the like weight brakes, bearings and axles might cause a horrible accident. The overall build is lightweight and will fail eventually especially going off road or jumping or running stairs. I see a lot of ebikes catching on fire and that would be a hell of a way to burn 10K because I'm sure its not insured for that amount. Very curious where this sits with regulators... if bike then no license or registration, if a motor vehicle then you need plates, insurance and a driver's license? Pretty wild machine, incredible burnouts too... ride safe man.
@1:38 i cant tell you how many times people have almost ran into me. Ill be on one side of the walk way and they will be on the other side and as im getting ready to pass them they all the sudden turn into me. I swear it happens at least every other ride. Its so annoying. Its like people all the sudden forgot how to ride.
really been enjoying your show. I cant wait to get one. Been riding bikes forever, did my first century when I was like 14 years old, but I never was allowed when I was younger to get anything with a motor, so I really cant wait :)
The NEW E-RIDE-PRO SS will KILL this as it HAS Already got everything you will WANT to put on a standard SURRON/TALARIA. I;m in UK and just Ordered My E-RIDE PRO SS At a Bargain price from my Local MX Dealer.
It's just a motorcycle with inadequate brakes, put on proper gear when you're above 30mph; this includes full finger gloves, abrasion resistant pants with impact padding for the pelvis (if this bone breaks, and you start bleeding and don't get moved to a trauma center by a very competent paramedic, you will probably die), an impact and abrasion resistant jacket, and a full face helmet. All the gear all the time.
I'm one of the most aware people in the safety department, but even I'll say that you're going overboard. Above 30mph you don't need a full face helmet and full fingered gloves, haha. Come on man. People go faster than that every single day on pedal bikes that aren't powered.
It’s clearly a motorcycle designed to cheat the system by pretending to be a bicycle to avoid licenses, lights and to cheat and ride on non motorcycle areas. Fast enough to aggravate every hiker, equestrian and mtb rider on multi use trails yet rather inadequate for any OHV park. We used to call something like this pit bike. Pit bikes were a something you rode around from the pit lanes to the camping areas on race day. Throw some signal lights on the thing and it would be a nimble city traffic commute bike. Zero protection from cars but it’s nimble for avoiding them.
Have you considered an additional caliper for the brakes. High performance cars often have two calipers per wheel. I know that’s additional brake pads to replace but would provide additional clamping force
The mounts for brakes on a bicycle are either welded into the frame, or machined in. You can't really change the brake geometry on these designs without alot of machine work
@@TriadAgone you would be surprised how easy either drilling and tapping a bolt hole is if the frame is solid or using a rivet nut insert if it’s hollow is. I’m not saying it would be super easy and would require some fabrication ability but it’s also not rocket surgery.
@0ldGuy the brakes mount on a stand-off, and the forks on alot of bikes are hydroformed aluminum. It wouldn't be super hard but if you're doing all that just swap to a more robust system entirely instead if a bicycle system. At that point you can just buy a bike with the brakes you need on it.
@Old Guy "high performance cars" don't have two calipers used for braking. The second caliper you are referring to is for the E-Brake only and is not used for actual braking when applying the brake pedal.
So inspiring! Just saw this as I'm adding a 8kW QS273 to my fat bike. If I show up on a Sur Ron, I'd never be able to be near a bike path. What controller are you using? Ahh - BAC4000..found it on the other video. Cool.
I’ve got the BAC4000 on my stock 60v, SM wheels dual caliper for the rear. Blinkers, headlight, horn . Too much fun. I’ve raced motorcycles in everything my whole life. I ride on the street respectfully and haven’t had a problem with the police. There’s a Time and place for everything so don’t do anything stupid in front of people to get noticed. But go crazy when nobody is around. And wear gear. Oh I’m 67, Try to Catch Me, no way.
I saw your video for the first time and you're discussing about downfalls on this e-bike I agree no pedals on the E bike which everybody should have because of not looks what happens the end of walking far away to get to your location where you first started tell the smart thing is when you buy another bike make sure you have pedals on it so you can pedal home in case of emergencies go figure likewise good day and good luck to the next video if you get it another bike.
Sold my $10k sur ron bought a used $8k zero fxs and got plated. Got sick of getting harassed on trails so it was a road only bike and I figured at that point I might as well get a real plated motorcycle
It’s an e-dirt bike plain and simple. Too many people to think they can just cruise the bike paths and bike lanes with them, saying they are “bikes” because they have worthless bike pedals bolted on them. They are no different than any other off-road only dirt bike.
Not about this bike, but wanted to thank you for the reviews of the Troxus Explorer. I got one, and love it, and the coupon code saved me real dollars. I’m keeping my old Evo Cross for now, but probably not for long.
That's actually like a moped or dirt bike of some kind. The classification for E bike should have something to do with the weight, frame, and motor only activating on normal pedal motion. Any inexperienced "cyclist" could just smash into someone on the sidewalk and apparently this "e bike" was sidewalk legal for it to happen. Actual e-bikes now have their speeds regulated due to shit like this. The fact you aren't even pedalling makes this more of a motorcycle, even though theyre a two wheeled vehicle with similar shape. Honestly e bikes in city limits should just be pedal assist road bikes. When you have full suspension on a heavy, solid frame with wheels that make it impossible to fall over on, you aren't hardly a danger to yourself but much more of a danger to all the pedestrians around you. But a pedal assist e-bike can't just fly over curbs, crash into stuff, etc, without you going flying. and you have to be very very careful with the handling. This thing is literally like grabbing a controller and ripping up the sidewalks
I can confirm at max settings the bike broke my friends colar bone in half. When he flew 0- to 60 in 4 seconds right into the side of my garage door. After a panic throttle in the driveway.
I'd love to have something like this to commute on. If the cops saw me riding anything like this on the road where I live, they'd clap me in irons, turbo illegal unless you got it homologated as a motorcycle. Probably also in some places in the US, not sure. But if you mow someone down with this at speed, it would probably have pretty severe legal consequences.
It's illegal in basically any state in usa. However potential fines and payments are much less typically in usa than they would be in say many eu countries where you'd get retro-slapped for insurance, registration, type certifying, fines... and the cops lack training about whats actually legal or illegal too in usa. Goes for modified cars and such too in usa.
Where are those jumps you're hitting in the hills? I hit then some of the same spots, don't know those hills though, and would like to check them out. Newer to the area. Thanks for the video and reviews on some of the others you've posted THTV; Eahora chopper was great!
The brakes might not be the problem, often times it is simply the brake pads. On my heavy electric mountain bike I switched over to MTX red racing pads. Problem resolved. They are super powerful and they never squeal.
I don't think there is anyway to make this safe with even the most high end bicycle hydrailic brakes. Your bicycle isn't hitting 60-70. My emtb that brakes are awesome and can easily hold me on a steep rock roll with ease. But if someone pushed me to 70 mph the brakes would only last one squeeze before they were too hot to stop me.
I was looking at getting the Lightbee X recently but for my usage an eMTB made more sense so went that route instead. The Lightbee is a motorbike, no question. But the fact that it's almost a bicycle in terms of size and looks still has me very interested. Where I am a motorbike license is required plus registration to ride it on the roads so that was the deciding factor against it for me.
I found a ebike that is nothing like this and impressive(but nothing like his) but what I wanted was to look like a bike. undercover. lol The moped style ebikes look like minibike in my era and a dead giveaway. way cooling looking in my eyes. The one I got was also reviewed on his channel. But his is older and they upgraded them alot but basically same power train.
Going 36mph on a lectric xp 2.0 is scary enough I don’t think I could ever ride anything as light yours or lighter 70mph without getting paranoid. It’s pretty neat though!
PEOPLE TEAR ALONG HIGHWAY at 40mph with NO IDEA their electric bike DOES NOT have brakes/tyres/suspension to SAFELY TRAVEL at those speeds. NO HELMET and rider OBLIVIOUS to the danger if a DOG RUNS OUT in their path.
Yep, not an e-bike. No operable pedals and way too much power. It is an electric motorcycle! All you have to do is get into a crash where a person is injured and your life will change for ever. Criminal charges and civil litigation will follow. Don’t worry, you are above the law, you are special.
This is not legal to ride on the street in any state with or without drivers license. It is a motorcycle for all intents and purposes that can't be registered because it is not up to DOT standards with inadequate brakes, no signals, mirrors etc.
Re-t-arded world. Europe would require you to have a motocycle license. Humans need a global union that mandates the right to unimpeded travel, abortion and firearms.
Help me understand something. Based on what I know about California laws: 1) This bike is not a legally classed ebike so not legal on bike lanes/trails yet you are riding in bike lanes. 2) Your bike was not registered so it is not street legal, yet you are riding on city streets. 3) You are going over 60 mph on a residential street. Yet at 8:14 you say it is important to ride these things responsibly. Do you think you are responsible? Do you think you are encouraging others to act responsibly by posting this on youtube?
Dude, 12 kW and ~55 kg, that's a serious motorbike. That's about the same power-to-weight ratio as the old Aprilia RS250 - a 250cc 2-stroke (so similar power to a 400c 4-stroke) - which was a very credible track-bike. The RS250 of course had a *pair* of 280mm discs, with 4-pot calipers on each (it did have more weight to stop - 136 kg or so, with proper racing pipes).
The RS250 could do 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in about 3.5s. So I guess your machine is limited there by gearing and wheelbase? 7s is still faster than most cars!
I see 12-year-olds doing weelies on Sur Rons all over the place. I have seen them get in serious wrecks too Parents have become friends and no being parents nowadays, They don't know how to say no to their kids. It's ridiculous.
Yeah states are going to start making people put plates on bikes like this and pay insurance, have turn signals, inspection etc. Might be 10 years but it will happen.
@@Clearanceman2 With its speed and power it already can't be classified as an E bike, so the only way you can legally ride it basically anywhere public is by going through the process to get it plated as a motorcycle. Basically everything in this video is already technically illegal. I'm not sure what it will look like, but they're definitely going to do something enforcement-wise soon.
That's like an off road e-dirt bike, 3000 watts and 70mph....class 3 ebikes tap out at 28mph. In another video a cop asks the rider, 'How many watt motor is that ?' It won't be long that the long arm of the law will be making many more stops.
I will never stop comparing to my old 2013 KTM 450 exc that I paid $7500 for. I am just going to say at the start of this video I looked at the connecting point of the wheel hub and the thickness of that swing arm and it is so skinny looking compared to that 250 pound KTM I used to ride up to 80 mph on. I still would like to try that and look it over closely.
I stopped riding KTM because this stuff really does tare up the body even if you do not crash them. I mean I used to ride on rocky mountains that beat you hard on the knees and back. I even rim pinched and got a flat, and that taught me you better keep that air pressure over 30 psi. or 60 for a mountain bike.
Also, the noise from the motor noise from the KTM really is an issue, you can't hide and it will increase cops being called for noise complaints. There are signs on parts of the trail telling people to keep the noise down, and locals are fighting hard to have the trail shut down, the one at Edinburg Gap Virginia. I wish I had smooth trails around here.
This is not an ebike nor dirtbike, it is an electric motorcycle. As someone who rides, the risk you are taking with these is exponentially higher than with an actual motorcycle. They do not have the same safety features and are not meant to go the speed you take it to.
@@dirtedeuce5936 Not too mention that usually the bicycle suspension and brakes is cheaper and more generic on these then you would find on nice name brand bikes in a bike shop.

The question is, what bike would you recommend for low end (moped style) , I want to do berms but my bike throttle lags, I need something that picks up fast for example, hit throttle and do a burn out in light sand.
Seems pretty expensive to go electric. I’m sure it’s fun doing stop light get aways but that could get pretty old too. You can buy a motorcycle for that kind of money but you obviously would require a proper license and insurance too, depending on where you live.

I would hesitate to call you an idiot - you're an adult and you make your own choices. But the brakes on your $10,000 ebike are completely inadequate for something with its level of performance and you aren't wearing safety gear. A motorcycle boot (you ARE riding a motorbike, don't pretend it isn't one) has armour to protect you. No-one who knows how to ride a motorbike would ever ride one in shorts. I would definitely upgrade the brakes. Mountain bike brakes are intended to stop 250 pounds from 25 mph, ao they are totally inadequate to stop 350 pounds from 50 mph.
Yeah the brakes should absolutely be swapped w these typa builds
Double the speed increases energy by 4X for a given mass.

Incredible E-Bike and video. Is this bike and upgrades available in Canada?
Editing, speed & talk through was spot on lad! Much love from Scotland! 👍
is not about the speed and the range, its the tires and the brakes you'll see people prioritizing after many learning experiences.
When the brakes fail, look for the nearest soft surface to run into to slow you down, hopefully!;-)

These things are super cool, and i may buy one someday, but as both an avid cyclist and motorcycle rider, i think it's pretty obvious which direction these things lean.
haha I intentionally said "power assist" tongue in cheek instead of "pedal assist" in my normal regal ebike reviews
you can actually put a 'pedal kit' on the surron so technically its a push bike then 😂

If it doesn't have pedals, it's a motorbike.
Hmmm
It's not wise choice to use bike brakes on motorbike.
If you want to have brake wat may be strong enough there is just two options out there.
1. Magura Gustav M ( Very old but still possible to find in good condition)
2. Gator 8 piston insanity ( newer seen one in a wild, probably impossible to get one)
Of course need to be paired with good pads and 2.3 mm thick rotors to perform.

On second set of tires now.
you must have an upgraded battery/controller to get that type of range right?
@@zweed69 I get 45 miles on the average with stock battery, depends on what modes i ride and if there are hills etc.

So glad to see you back on the "RON"
This ebike sure needs dual front disc brakes.
This motorcycle needs a front disc brake and caliper sized for a motorcycle of its speed and weight.

Or just plain bigger brakes. More complex with more rather than bigger.
That's fast dude, 60mph is more than enough for a "bike" :))

What does the power assist assist when you don't have pedals?
😆 it was kinda a joke, usually I show the pedal assist levels, so I just said power assist instead for this video
this is an electric motor bike, an ebike has pedal dive - 2 very differed units
If you hit someone, you are going to learn the difference between an Accident and Vehicular Homicide.
Assuming someone dies

Motorcycles are the most fun you can have on two wheels. This is pretty neat though.
I rode past about 10 cops today 😆
It's illegal in basically any state in usa.
However potential fines and payments are much less typically in usa than they would be in say many eu countries where you'd get retro-slapped for insurance, registration, type certifying, fines... and the cops lack training about whats actually legal or illegal too in usa.
Goes for modified cars and such too in usa.
Where are those jumps you're hitting in the hills? I hit then some of the same spots, don't know those hills though, and would like to check them out. Newer to the area. Thanks for the video and reviews on some of the others you've posted THTV; Eahora chopper was great!
00:10 video may as well have ended here for me 😂
LOLLLLL Yeh, No kidding😅

For the price probably. It's not a truck. If you have a problem you buy a new 30$ part and turn a wrench. Don't cry about it ya know.
Yep, not an e-bike. No operable pedals and way too much power. It is an electric motorcycle! All you have to do is get into a crash where a person is injured and your life will change for ever. Criminal charges and civil litigation will follow. Don’t worry, you are above the law, you are special.
I wouldn't be surprised if some states would pass a law requiring you to have a Driver's License to drive these type of e bikes
Yeah f those states.
Jesus, doesn't anyone just peddle anymore? It's good for you.
You were riding WAY too fast on that Santa Barbara beach trail !!
Help me understand something. Based on what I know about California laws:
1) This bike is not a legally classed ebike so not legal on bike lanes/trails yet you are riding in bike lanes.
7s is still faster than most cars!
haha love you're analysis. These are all facts. The power to weight ration and instant torque delivery are what makes this bike incredible 😆⚡️🤙

Good to see that you are using the phone mount with E-motorcycle :)

I would hesitate to call you an idiot - you're an adult and you make your own choices.
