    As a yoga teacher its crazy to see how similar a lot of the movements are! I'm trying to work more on shoulder strength and there are extra workouts with calisthenics that will pair perfectly.

      Hi Kayla, thanks for the message. Yeah for sure there is a lot of crossover into Yoga and we get lots of teachers and practitioners coming to courses and using our content. We find that calisthenics has a lot offer when it comes to supporting strength development in to upper body as you mentioned. Lots of good synergy! Tim

    Oh my gosh, I just found this channel and I'm super pumped! I've been wanting to get into calisthenics more. Only vids I've been able to find are either from people that don't know much or people that every other word was "Buy this - and find out the rest" or "You need to buy this thing from me in order for you to actually learn". So it's very refreshing to find something with peope that actually care.
    I think you guys went into the perfect amount of detail and explained it very well.
    Although I don't have any rings to practice on, I can still do the rest and some stuff on the pull up bar.
    One thing I always find myself asking when watching fitness vids is "How many reps a day, how many times a week, for how long should I do them in order to get the most out of it and to progress the fastest."

    Unos grandes ! Muy buen video, apenas lo empecé a ver me puse a hacer los ejercicios, de a poco voy aprendiendo, pero lo mejor de todo es que son ejercicios dinamicos y divertidos, te presentan un reto al momento de ejecutarlos y esto le da un poco de sabor al entrenamiento para que no sea tan monótono.. Me gustó mucho el video, un saludo desde Argentina! Y si no entienden, go to the google traslator jeje

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics
      @SchoolofCalisthenics  6 лет назад

      Hi, you can do but it's good to start strengthening the wrists without them so if you do choose to get a pair aim to use them sparringly and for times when you are doing a lot of hand balancing in a session.

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics

      Hi Tim, you can use a pull up bar for the skin the cat and a barbell in the squat rack for the bodyweight rows. You can grab a set of rings pretty cheap to get you started and they are a worthwhile investment. Hope that helps. Tim

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics
      @SchoolofCalisthenics  6 лет назад

      Yeah this was just one example lots of variations on beginners exercises and programmes / session you can do. Splitting vertically and horizontally with push and pull is a good idea yes and we often so that ourselves. This as the first one we want to just add a bit of variety for people when they first start out. That make sense? Jacko

    I have a question: I'm struggling to move my hands towards the wall Wenn doing those wall handstands - is it shoulder /overall arm strength that I'm lacking? I find it difficult to improve here. I am able to hold a handstand (against a wall) for quite some time but as soon as hand movement is involved I fail. Any tips? Thanks :)

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics
      @SchoolofCalisthenics  5 лет назад

      Hey, likely to be some shoulder stability and strength as well as confidence maybe? Things like the YTW and pike push ups will be good for improving that as well as normal push ups. With the wall walks themselves just get confident and build up strength in the range you have... each week and month you can progress gradually to getting closer and closer to the way over time. Don't be in a rush to progress, we have plenty of time... enjoy the journey!!! - Jacko

    Another tip for not falling on your face when doing the frog is to find a spot about half a foot in front of your hands. Focus on it as you come up off your feet. By looking at that slightly forward spot you put a tilt in your neck which helps with your balance and you’re less likely to fall directly on your face.

I’m recovering from a shoulder injury which turned into a frozen shoulder, it’s been almost a year since my accident and I’m now starting to get movement back in my shoulder, although it’s still not very strong. • @razla

      I was seeing an osteopath for the first few months but he went as far as he could with it and said to keep on with light exercises. I’ve just started back at the gym and the exercises that I’m struggling with are Lat pull downs behind my head, fly’s and the pec deck, the strength is there but there’s limited ROM. Everything else seems to be fine. I’m guessing strength/movement in these areas are going to be needed?

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics
      @SchoolofCalisthenics  5 лет назад +1

      I'f you've been given the al clear by your doctor to start light exercise then yeah improving the ROM, control and stability will be great to start to move better. Will this help me in shedding pounds when combined with a one-hour spinning workout? I plan to lose 40 lbs in 3 months.

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics
      @SchoolofCalisthenics  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Rhoda Lindsay. Thanks for the question.
      General health advice that would help you shed those pounds is maintaining a moderate calorie deficit - not too extreme - over a period of time with bouts of regular exercise each week.
      If doing Calisthenics and your spinning means that you achieve a good calorie deficit in comparison to what you take in - yes, you should lose weight healthily over time.
      I can't guarantee how fast, but my encouragement is to play the long game, take your time and try and do activities that make losing the weight fun.
      All the best,
      Seth

    How long should I do this workout until I can start to train for skills?

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics
      @SchoolofCalisthenics  6 лет назад

      Hey! I'm going to assume by "skills" you mean the bigger Calisthenics movements i.e. Human Flag etc. There's no real timeline that I can give you as I don't know what your current physical health is like. But I'd say that if you're a beginner, once the work in this video becomes relatively easy, you're more than likely ready to get stuck into the bigger movements. All our e-books can help, and the majority of our content can help, regardless of your starting point. We've seen absolute beginners redefine their impossible this way, and we're confident you can also! All the best, Seth

      You can also get them from amazon but the quality is really variable and the straps aren’t great.

    Guys, when you have rest days do you do nothing at all or do you grease the groove?

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics
      @SchoolofCalisthenics  4 года назад +1

      Hi David, it depends on how I feel. Sometimes I'll do some light skill work but nothing of any real intensity or that is going to cause a lot of fatigue. Rest days from calisthenics might include some conditioning work with the focus in not stressing my upper body. Rest days when I need the recovery are generally completely off though. Your body needs time to recover if you are going to get stronger.

    these exercises are from a very old lineage of body yoga. it's not fair how you're taking it and rebrand it as calisthenics. this is yoga.

    • @SchoolofCalisthenics
      @SchoolofCalisthenics  6 лет назад

      Hi, thanks for the message. For sure there is some crossover between calisthenics and yoga but bodyweight training in this form has been around for a pretty long time too. No one owns movement and different expressions of it are just different forms, regardless of what it is called. We're not trying to rebrand anything, we're just having fun learning to move in new ways, getting strong and sharing that with others. Tim
