I'm watching this again after making progress with pike pushups and wall handstand holds. I really appreciate the advice on building strength to get both knees off of the elbows. It is a really big jump in the strength needed.

Thanks for the message Bazza! Massively appreciate support! Keep training and working hard, we started form the absolute beginning so know how difficult it is. Tim
Right on, guys! I've been doing yoga for about a year now and have just recently included the frog stand (or we call it crane sometimes) into the handstand. It's super fun :)
Thanks Alex, glad you enojyed the video. We've been told before about the different name in Yoga. When I first learnt it was introduced as the frog and the name stuck! Hope your training is going well. Tim

Hi Calvin, thanks for the subscription. We appreciate your support and hope your training goes well. That golfers elbow is super frustrating hey! Hope it clears up soon. Tim
Hi, thanks for the message. There are so many different shoulder injuries and treatment/rehab practices that we don't do any specific and always recommend you get advice from a physiotherapist. If you have been discharged from a medical professional you can start gradually training calisthenics but make sure you don't train through pain.
literally the video i needed right now..i can hold the frog stand but have no idea how to get into a handstand from there or progression exercises to get stronger to put my legs up. thanks so much! ❤🔥🥰🙏

Thanks Todd, appreciate it. If you're getting started in calisthenics check out our free beginners guide. schoolofcalisthenics.com/product/beginners-guide-calisthenics-ebook/

Ive only been doing these about a week, but I noticed my frogstands, despite doing working on them 2 sessions a day were getting worse. Now I know why, my knees were getting lower around my arms. And I couldn't find the balance because of that. Now they're on the back of my arms again I reached 20 seconds on day 3, and now I can do 20+ seconds again, I definitely can't take one leg off yet though, my knee felt that...
So, from absolute beginner, for the average time / person... how long until one can be comfortable with the frog stand.. and then from that to the hand stand?
Someone can at times get comfortable with a frog in a little as 5 minutes practise! For others it takes weeks, its very individual and depends a lot on training background and experience plus strength to rate ratio which can be all different for different beginners. The frog to handstand progression take a lot of strength but you can build up progressively over weeks and maybe even month but how long it will take... who knows... but its not the point its the journey of getting there and what you learn that is important rather than it being a race to complete. That make sense? - Jacko
Our Handstand strength guide has all the progressions and exercises you need for the frog to handstand - schoolofcalisthenics.com/product/the-handstand
Nice, this was something I had not though about begore. Definitely something to test out. But does anyone else have a problem with immense shoulder pressure while, for example, letting that second leg loose? It almost feels like my shoulders would be exploding and it's very much unconfortable. Not sure if it feels painful, but at least very nearly so. It makes it pretty much impossible to hold that posture more than a second or two. Lack of strength probably.
Hi, thanks for getting in touch and we appreciate the support. In terms of warm up exercises for the core the best options would be some unloaded global movement patterns. Bodyweight squats, lunges with rotation and some crawling patterns would be great choices. We'll see if we can do a video for you soon. Thanks again. Tim
Hey, build up with harder progressions to sets of 5, 10, 15 seconds etc rather than staying on an easy progression for up to 60 seconds. You'll build more maximal applied strength that way - that make sense?
I learned the frog in just 1 try after watching this video. I cant even do pullups but ive trained track and field.amd.cross country for 3 years which is probably why i could do this frogstand in just one try. I want to get into calisthenics though but sadly there are no gyms around me😪
As easy as may this appears in the video doing frogstands and handstands is not a easy task, there are many small increments of techniques you must get through before completing a handstand , however in time you will achieve it if your determined
Is there any difference between keeping your head between your arms vs how your head was positioned at the end of the video where we could see your ears? I've been told that my head should be between my arms/my ears shouldn't be seen from the sides.
mydarlinglana Hi, thanks for the message. In a perfect handstand the head would be tucked in with ears inline with biceps. When you're learning however it helps to be able to 'spot' the floor to give you a visual reference which helps with balance and awareness of where your body is in space. You can choose which route to follow, head tucked from the start and learn that way, or use the floor to help the learning process and then tidy it up as you get better. Hope that helps. Tim
Thank you for the response! I'm hoping to get the handstand soon. I want to overcome the fear though of practicing away from the wall. I've been practicing how to bail out of it, but I'm still scared of falling and injuring myself lol. #nohealthinsurance >.
mydarlinglana Yeah once you get to grips with the topple over it becomes much less scary. Just think about transferring your weight over in a semi cartwheel style. Or forward roll and style it out!! People will never know you didn't mean to do it! Tim
hi guys...im not sure if it is weakness or what but im almost at 30s but i just cant seem to suspend my torso or keep minimal contact with my knees. as a result my frog stand looks more like i am supporting my entire weight on my elbows
Hi, thanks for the message. It could be a strength issue, are you pushing your hands hard into the floor for the full duration of that 30 seconds? If not start trying to do that and build up some more strength. Pike push ups are also a great addition and you can get the exercise tutorial for these in our beginners guide. Also try and get the knees a little higher up your triceps if possible. schoolofcalisthenics.com/product/beginners-guide-calisthenics-ebook/ Hope that helps Tim
You shouldn't get pain whilst doing this exercise or any other. It might be worth getting a physio to have a look at them for you. You could also try some self massage work as in the video below but the shoulder is complicated so worth getting someone to assess it for you before you start pushing into any harder progressions. ruclips.net/video/E-FKfnXCXf8/видео.html Tim
