Cool Video. The wear on the „tooth“ ist the same reason why I don’t like the revo as well. It’s just hard to trust your gear when you can’t inspect the mechanism inside.
It’s interesting how different the Grigori and the Brix are working just by this wheel. Thanks for showing and explaining! I really like your channel and your effort trying to make this sport more safe by people understanding their equipment!
Liked your point about being able to just look at your gear and tell if its up to scratch or not. Never would have considered that before when getting new gear 👍👍
Love the dedication to allowing your curiosity to reign supreme. Would be very interesting to know Perzl's estimated lifespan on the Neox. Would be keen on getting one though, although I'm a sucker for new shiny kit - I suppose I could tell my wife I won it! Haha
Great video, it's really interesting that petzl decided to make giving slack easier at the cost of what is probably a significantly shorter lifespan and no way to know if your approaching the end of the device's lifespan. Keep up the great videos
Now, you see Yann, THAT is how you remove that annoying little spring for your rope solo endevours - just another feat of this wonderful new device 😂 Kindest regards and just keep on sending, boys 😊
Thanks for sacrificing a perfectly good piece of gear so that we can all understand how it works! I think it will be perfect for sport/gym climbing. The GriGri plus feeds more smoothly than the older GriGris but it seems like to new Neox takes it to the next level! Thanks for a great video!
pretty cool to see the inside of it! I initially thought it was inspired of the centrifugal acceleration like for a seatbelt or for the Silent Partner. Cool to understand the actual mechanic.
Beal Birdie user here. New partners always question my belay device. I wonder if they would have more confidence if I used a Neox. Guess I'm entering the giveaway!
Hi, student here on a budget. My smart is working perfectly fine but I’m jealous of my mates with a grigri, just the ease of letting rope in lead belaying. Enjoyed the vid
I didn't pick up from any of your other videos that I've seen in the past that you were professionally into rope access. That's pretty cool! I wonder if you have videos on this topic.
I do wonder if the idea for this came from sailing gear. That’s what it reminds me of. A main sheet block crossed with a grigri. Shoulda had you sign my trad dad shirt when I bumped into you and Yann in the gunks last year!
I love the neox. I do prefer traditional belay technique (not holding it the entire time) and I've always used the atc guide for bringing up a 2nd so it's perfect for me.
Tested the neox with a break knot and not holding on to the break side of the rope, it does slip quite a bit, so not a device for beginners. But if you know how to belay, it is awesome!
I’ve been using the mega jul for lead climb belaying but the new one has sharper edges and seems to put pig tail curls in my rope. I’ve been looking at this for a while and would love a chance to try it IRL! Thanks gorgeous the great video!
Hey, seems like your new neox doesn' t work properly, i would reccommend to return it, warranty should cover those accidental damages. (Thanx for the insider info tho, very interesting!)
It was interesting to see what's inside it, my friend's Neox was basically grigri (Spinner stopped working almost entirely), after belaying for a few weeks on Very sendy crags. I hit it with some good blasts of high pressured air, and some WD40 to get it to work almost as new.
Now I have a reason to finally get an angle grinder ❤️ Would you recommend the modifications? Do you see any safety issues regarding removing the rivet? Seems like decent weight savings.
Clickety-clack, the climber went up the crack, Up to the crux, no time to look back. A slip on the wall, exhale to a gasp, Neox cams in, "Relax, I've got the last grasp!"
I wonder if either of those notches on the wheel are hardened to make them last longer. Its totally possible to make that metal on metal contact reliable (see: impact drivers), and I'd like to assume petzl put in the work to make it.

Greaaaat so I bought the trad dad shirt I’ve been wanting to order for nuthin 😂

Great to see

@@strikermartin6963 good to know!

Love how bomb proof the old gri gri is still going after all those years
Next video: How to repair a petzl neox after it gets too close to a grinder
Best Comment! @MJ720 You deserve to win the Neox.

Super cool, I always love watching how things work on the inside. Im fairly new to climbing and love seeing how this that keep me alive work!

Thanks for the Neox breakdown. I finally got to use one this past week and it’s so smooth! Smoother than an ATC even.
Great video, it's really interesting that petzl decided to make giving slack easier at the cost of what is probably a significantly shorter lifespan and no way to know if your approaching the end of the device's lifespan.
Keep up the great videos
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing. I certainly agree that being able to visually inspect the wear of my kit is important.
Now, you see Yann, THAT is how you remove that annoying little spring for your rope solo endevours - just another feat of this wonderful new device 😂 Kindest regards and just keep on sending, boys 😊
Great video, love what you do in this channel, very useful and interesting information!
Thank you for furthering our understanding in the climbing community. I always wondered what mechanism exactly makes the click noises on the neox.
The simplicity of the grigri still amazes me. Such a beautiful piece of gear!

really cool to see the inside, makes it make a lot more sense seeing how it works.

Thanks for making this video, really interesting to see how a Neox works
Your OG grigri is looking gnarly, amazing that it still works! I'd call it the antiquox.
Very cool content! I got a helmet because of your vids. I also talked my buddy into using his too!
Great video, thanks for showing us the insides!
"Give it to me," he said, like a toddler demanding a cookie while riding a unicycle through a hallway full of Lego pieces.
This type of engineering is like magic to me, thanks for lifting the veil
Thanks for sharing. Many of us have just enough experience and knowledge to be dangerous! Understanding = safety. Thanks for the enlightenment.
Good point on making sure your gear is inspect-able!

Very informative as always - thanks for the great content!
Would love one! Prefer the smoothness of an atc but my gym only allows grigri.. maybe I can trick them
Best Climbing stuff youtube channel 🙌🏻🙌🏻
I'm really comfortable with the GriGri so I've been on the fence with the Neox. You make a good point that it is only good for sport climbing.
Been super curious about this and been looking forward to try it!

Yo, please put out some more climbing fails, I love to watch these
Who needs more climbing gear?
The Neox honestly looks like such a nice device and a really smart idea from petzl. Honestly the physics on it is interesting
Bad ass breakdown,thank you...
Looks like a real upgrade. Only used my old grigri for Ropesolo and hated it for belaying.
Thanks very much, been super curious about the Neox
I’m happy to accept a new neox but that old one still looks BOMBERRRRR
The clackety clack is when taking- in, which works on the back sde of that dog where it's ramped.
Very interesting to see how the internals of this thing works. It's sad though that they didn't add some way easily checking the internals for wear
It will definitely be interesting to see how they do with years of use--do they have a manufacturer-recommended lifespan?
I love the neox. I do prefer traditional belay technique (not holding it the entire time) and I've always used the atc guide for bringing up a 2nd so it's perfect for me.
Very interesting, wouldn't the cam still cam if the notches are worn down if you hold the brake strand?
Awesome break down of unit
Ran over my gri gri last week… maybe for the better? The neox would be a sweet replacement.. appreciate the insight!
Thanks for the very informative video :)
Tested the neox with a break knot and not holding on to the break side of the rope, it does slip quite a bit, so not a device for beginners. But if you know how to belay, it is awesome!
very interesting device. Can see its benefit but not sure how much value over a grigri. Cool to to see the inside bits

Been subbed for years, love this channel, love the videos. Would love a neox!
haven't seen one in real life yet, but thanks to you already familiar with the inner values 😅
I had the exact same idea with just the small barrel bearing in regulat grigri. Sounds like much simpler solution.
Thanks for sacrificing the neon. That is one used and abused grigri.
Huh... thought it would be much more complicated, cool vid👍
Hey, seems like your new neox doesn' t work properly, i would reccommend to return it, warranty should cover those accidental damages.
(Thanx for the insider info tho, very interesting!)
Your old grigri probably runs as smooth as the neox without the sound! Just need wear😂
Thanks for the vid! Was curious what the click sound was
Looking forward to try the Neox. But with the price tag, I don't think it will replace my still rather new GriGri Plus though...
i will never forget the jingle clackle of the grigri

Looking at getting one but I really like the excuse of blaming my belayer for short roping me if I can't get the climb
Commenting to throw my hat in the ring. I want to see a video on the Edelrid Pinch.
Yay! Another video!
Nice video…I’ve always been curious what holds the internals of a Rig too.
Thanks for destroying an expensive piece of equipment to I didn't have to. Also, I really love the t-shirt I bought from your website!
Every neox in the room when this guys comes in : (chuckles) I'm in danger
Thanks for looking under the hood!
Brand new and getting into sport climbing after really enjoying bouldering and top rope and would be so amped to win this!
Now I have a reason to finally get an angle grinder ❤️
Would you recommend the modifications? Do you see any safety issues regarding removing the rivet? Seems like decent weight savings.
the fomo is real! as ever, nice vid!
Great explanation
fascinating teardown!
Clickety-clack, the climber went up the crack,
Up to the crux, no time to look back.
A slip on the wall, exhale to a gasp,
Neox cams in, "Relax, I've got the last grasp!"
It'll be interesting what kind of changes will be made with the device, if any, over time.
Thanks for the insight, I’ve been wondering too.
Finally someone opened the dam thing!
Love your channel!
I was wondering if they used a bearing on the spinning part, guess not.
Also would oiling the wheel make it spin even smoother? 🤔
I stumbled upon this video without even searching for it. I guess you could say it was a Neox-cident!
I juts love this channel
Great video as always
So Petzl didn’t just reinvent the *wheel*?
Hey Josh. Love your stuff. GIMME THAT NEOX!
Would be interestin to do the same with an Edelrid Pinch
Thanks for the video and raffling a Neox!
I wonder if either of those notches on the wheel are hardened to make them last longer. Its totally possible to make that metal on metal contact reliable (see: impact drivers), and I'd like to assume petzl put in the work to make it.
@@ap0gee that’s a good point!
Great video - but I will be honest…I never comment on video so I am here for the neoz 😅
I agree that the neox will be difficult to inspect and clean.
Good stuff. I guess you can hear how worn down the inner teeth are when they don't click as loud?
This a great post. Would this make a good Christmas gift???? Be safe
Great to see inside. Please choose me for the Neox!
Never realized this, but since it looks so similar to my GriGri I wonder if I would ever accidentally grab it instead without realizing.
Nice, thanks !
That old Gri Gri is dirrrrrrrty
Ah, that's how you're supposed to use the Neox 😎
The neox: does a third of what a grigri does for three times the price.
But I still want it lol
