Awesome stuff Nathan, I'm just getting into real estate photography. Your vids have helped me enormously and I very much appreciate your efforts. Keep up the great work. Love your work!
Thank you Nathan! This has helped me so much. I've been struggling with the "blend if" method which doesn't always do a very good job of selecting trees. From now on this is my go-to method for sky swaps.
Your tutorials are awesome!!! Just one thing I noticed on your videos. You don't have to flatten the image and you don't have to save it as PSD. Once you save the image, Photoshop will automatically save it as PSD in the same folder where the original image is located, and send it to light room (no need to flatten). If for some reason you need to do further editing on that image in Photoshop, on light room you just click on edit in Photoshop and when prompted just select edit original, and it will open that PSD back in Photoshop
Yep, and if you have a peta byte drive, then no problem ;) It's a matter of saving disk space. When you're shooting 10 houses a week this adds up, and for MLS work, there's little need to save the work for later. For designer work though I tend to save as PSDs.
Great, thank you! Is taking me a bit of effort to learn this stuff! I don't use Lr only Ps so I have to find my way around (I'm new at this ..very new)
Thanks, and you're very welcome. If you're new to PS and/or LR, I do suggest getting at books 1,2, and 3 in my series, which has step-by-step instructions with screen shots for techniques like this and more: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FF9HSR5?ref=series_rw_dp_labf
U need to sell your skies. I would buy them. These are the best I've seen. We have been so rainy here forever... Which is unusual for Alabama. But I don't have a great collection.
What is the best way to sky swap when you have a lot of trees? Thank you for the great tutorials!! I need to feel more comfortable with PS. Do you have any of your technique on a preset that I could down load or set up my self? THANK YOU AGAIN!!
Same technique, just be careful on how far you set the fuzzy slider in select color, and make sure to use no more than 95% fill on the swap layer to allow better blending.
I have most of the presets I use in my books, in particular, the Advanced Editing book not only lists a variety of presets, but also shows how to make them. The exteriors book has a variety of presets as well. See: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0791GL8RD?ref=series_rw_dp_labf
Hey, watched a couple of your videos and keep wondering why you're using the eraser-tool instead of converting your brush to white when you're working on a mask.
Hi Joel, all of my presets are in my books, no need to buy presets, and you'll get a heck of a lot more from the books too :) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0791GL8RD?ref=series_rw_dp_labf
I have tried this about 20 times each has been a failure. When I get to the step where you add the gradient, I get the error "could not use the gradient tool because the smart object is not directly editable". Any suggestions?
Unfortunately I'd have to see what you're doing, but there are three options though: 1. There is a newer tutorial you can try here: ruclips.net/video/JfXiym0wzRM/видео.html 2. I cover this in detail in the advanced editing book with step by step instructions with screen shots, here www.amazon.com/dp/B0779PCVWC 3. Worst case, if all else fails, I also offer remote 1-one-training. You can contact me at nathan@nathancoolphoto.com for information on that.
@@NathanCoolPhoto I will reach out to you. I watched your other video and it was helpful. The quick selection tool helped me remove the extra color range selection. This works for me short term, but would love to sit down with you for a session. Thank you.
Hi Nathan! Thanks for the tutorial. Question: When I use the gradient tool as instructed, I only appear to be able to "blue" the sky around my gradient line. In this video, it appears the entire sky pops in to place. What could I be doing wrong?
Not sure what you are doing, but there's another way to do this that I show in the advanced editing book, which has step-by-step instructions: www.amazon.com/dp/B0779PCVWC
4 years later and this is still excellent content for not only real estate, but any photography work. Thank you!
You are the man, Nathan! No bs, no distractions, just straight knowledge! Thanks a lot. Cheers from Mexico

Bravo 👏🏼
thank you so much!
Can you please do a tutorial on how to correct distortions in post processing? Thank you
thank's nathan. Appreciated :)
Thanks very much! I have the software, but this gives a much better result!
U need to sell your skies. I would buy them. These are the best I've seen. We have been so rainy here forever... Which is unusual for Alabama. But I don't have a great collection.
Awesome explanation, thank you! What about the square under the roof on the left? I would have swapped the sky there too!
Yep, I missed a spot :)
Thanks
The barefoot photographer 😂 love the videos

hi, what versions of Nikon camera have you used to shoot both the images ?
D610s
Hey, watched a couple of your videos and keep wondering why you're using the eraser-tool instead of converting your brush to white when you're working on a mask.
I explain that in my advanced editing book, a variety of workflow reasons: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0779PCVWC/ref=series_dp_rw_ca_2
Boom, bam, puppy
What is your system config Nathan ? ☺ The top part of section looks similar to my setup. Can't clearly see your cpu on the bottom though 😶
I outline what I recommend in my advanced book: www.amazon.com/dp/B0779PCVWC
how do i buy the preset you just used Nathan? Do you actually sell them?
Hi Joel, all of my presets are in my books, no need to buy presets, and you'll get a heck of a lot more from the books too :) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0791GL8RD?ref=series_rw_dp_labf
