If they had sentimental value, no. But it seems like since he was ready to sell them they weren’t sentimental so yeah he overpaid
Probably but sometimes niche stuff all of a sudden becomes desirable to people who are tired of mainstream collecting. Those Rambo toys specifically look like something that rarely stayed in the box or survived after a kid was done with them. I vaguely remember that Wheel Warrior show so he might be better off just giving it to his kid to play with.
Wheeled Warriors is quite pricey here in the UK as super rare ... but like 10% of the fanbase of something like MOTU

I pay more for some stuff if is something i rarely see but always wanted. I also dont live in the US so anything i buy from the US incurs tax and crazzzzy shipping cost lol so basically i am always overpaying 😅
I’ve overpaid for items in my collection more than once. It’s the thrill and adrenaline of seeing something you once owned and wanting it back, along with the fear of missing out if you don’t buy right then and there, that takes precedence. I do say the toy market is weird right now. I blame world affairs both abroad and distant for the lack of interest in vintage toys right now. Inflation being a big part of the problem. People aren’t splurging for nostalgia right now.

I myself collect for the hobby and nostalgia but as well as investment and most importantly to hand my collection of toys and comics down to my kids. But when times are like they are now, it makes me worry that prices won’t come back up. Sell or not to sell? Always the question.
I overpaid and underpaid as a collector. It all equals out in the end. Just enjoy the items

I think any collector, myself included, has overpaid for items. It's part of the game. Prices drop, go up and sometimes you pay to much. But if u love it, it's still awesome 👌

It's possible to pass it on but I've also been to lots of garage sales where the kids don't care, don't want, and don't know what to do with their parents stuff and sell it for pennies on the dollar
My son is the one who actually got me into collecting Gi Joe, it's something we do together and enjoy. So I can say my kid was interested in the old toys and I said why not 😂.

Don't worry, we've all been stung at one time or another. I remember in the 1980's buying lots of red box Matchbox Models Of Yesteryear for up to $14.95 each. All unopened so packed them away hoping one day I'd hit the jackpot. I'm in Australia. Flat out getting $5-$6 each now and that's if they can sell. Sold the lot off real cheap just to get rid of them. Could have held on to them hoping the market would turn around, but realised I'd be 6 feet under by then.

I see many people in the comments of these videos complaining about how 50% of value is a rip off. I think it’s fair given that you’re selling your items to someone on the spot. It’s well worth it if you have a bulk of items that you would have to list and sell individually through time. For example, you sell 10 items valued at 100 each equalling a value of 1000. After eBay fees and shipping you’re looking at about 800 roughly give or take. Giving up 300 bucks for the convenience of getting the cash or credit on the spot vs waiting for your items to individually sell, run to the post office 10 times? That’s a fair deal to me. I love the videos! Keep it up guys!
There is no money to be made selling vintage toys to a toy store. If you want the money you have to sell it individually to collectors. Its pretty simple
It’s not worth it to sell to a store unless you’re desperate for money you will never get the pure value of selling it on your own

Nostalgia got us collectors by wallet…dam if you do and dam if you don’t …I feel like the whole world is “off” right now. No shame in overpaying, it’s bound to happen in the hobby. If you start getting worried about prices, you no longer in it for the toys but more into bargain shopping. But it’s always worthwhile to do you due diligence and search fair market value before making a big purchase.

Sometimes its a gamble with how the market changes, but anytime you buy something NOS/Sealed, it's value will drop once that seal is broken. It's just how the collectors and market look at things. Lesson learned for that guy.

Yeah, as a collector, I never bought toys to try to make money off them, but because I enjoy them. I haven't sold or gotten rid of much, either.
Also not sure why this guy was thinking of selling this stuff that he said had personal value.
I just paid a little too much for a Darth Vader carrying case, but it had the insert, and was from a childhood friend of mine, so there is a 100% chance it was around when we were kids.

This is a general comment: You really need to sell your stuff yourself, otherwise you are really never going to get a fair price from dealers. Many have an attitude that they are doing you a favor by taking it off your hands. This one guy I came across, would give you only 30% of the value when the collectible /toy was released, not the appreciated value or sold to value found on E-bay. I think everyone understands that resellers/ shops need meat left on the bone, but there is a point of being ridiculous. They are hoping that you are in a situation, where you need the money and are desperate. It is better to take the time and sell the items yourself in the end you will at least did not give away your collectibles for pennies on the dollar.

People done sell their toys at this shop just to sell..... If that were the case they would just sell on Ebay. There is a whole experience

Dealers give you approximately half of what they can sell it for. Pretty well known.

I like the transparency of determining value then offering a percentage 50% seems a bit low but clearly the shop has big overheads and too much stock sitting..60% of comps is common for video game and sneakers resellers
Most comic and toy stores barely want to give you 30% . These guys are way more fair then most.

Love Reboot! Does anyone remember Shadow Raiders / War Planets? It seems to be rare to see anyone talking about them or selling them. The Reboot designer did the character designs I believe.
M-16 is 5.56mm, m-14 is .308(7.62x51mm) in a magazine fed rifle and m-60 is the belt-fed big brother of the m-14 lol… sry former army here, my military ocd kicked in on the rambo discussion lmao. But i had the big rambo m-60 that broke down into smaller weapons as a kid, but im pretty sure i destroyed it bc i was rough on my stuff… and im kicking myself now bc i had all 4 of the og tmnt turtles complete , a bunch of joes, og transformers and a bunch of marvel xmen and ironman toys too (i know those last one arent really worth a whole bunch) but i gave most of it to my cousin’s kids.

Was great to see the Wheeled Warriors base. My Father designed it and I believe did the box art as well back when he worked for Mattel. As a Kid he had brought home a prototype version and I played with that thing for years. Ever time I have seen it in the case it has reminded me of those days. Was cool to see a boxed one come in. I mainly watch to see if my Dads work comes in (he did a lot of MotU as well). I have told him he should consider selling you some of his original designer gouache box art and technical drawings. Though I might want to keep some to remember his contributions to the toy industry.
i had those water guns and the toys from that cartoon. also had the wheeled warriors. looking back, we were kinda poor and i still had every major toy line.

Yea, a lot of stuff skyrocketed during COVID and the markets on ALL collectibles has cooled... imagine what Retro Video Game and TCG collectors feel.
Prob pretty good, whatever they had it stock skyrocketed at that time, as long as they bought things at the right price and made at least +50% on stuff im sure they are fine. The challenge for these business models are is curating your stock. Most stores you have suppliers and you just order new stuff and it shows up and they keep adding products. For these guys getting these collections and scouring ebay for deals could be the real tough part of keeping the gravy train rolling. Sometimes a hot market can be good for these owners as more people will want to liquidate around those times, if their collection isn't worth much they'll keep it. If they are profiting on their entry cost they'll be more inclined to sell or get credit.

The m14 was a short lived military rifle and was replaced by the m 16 and the m 60 was a belt fedachine gun that shot a .308 round.

I was wondering, where do you look up all the variety of toys that come in? can't just be eBay...... I would like to learn how to evaluate toy's better.
it really is just ebay. Been doing this kind of thing for years and everyone just uses ebay. you can't really use multiple outlets because prices can very wildly between website. like amazon is about 20 to 30% more expensive for retro toys and game VS Ebay. And Ebay is just all around more popular for this kind of stuff so often times its the only place to find listening of some items.
Checking sold and complete on eBay is a good start

Just my opinion, but when you ask a honest customer like that guy "what did you think these were worth?" And they tell you "I just wanted to know what they are worth" you should immediately tell them "well, what they are worth isn't necessarily what I can pay you for this"

Bro, you are selling to a B U S I N E S S. You are going to a store, a vendor, a business and you expect them to pay you exactly what a figure is 'worth'?
Uhm... how exactly is he going to make any money/profit? If a figure is 'worth' 100$ he is not going to pay you anything close to that. lmao
You maybe get like 50-60% of what its 'worth'.
Maybe if you walk in to the store with some kind of 'Holy Grail' like the 'Wonder Bread He-Man' or some super-duper rare Figure/Collectible you will get some decent amount of money - like 80-90% of what its worth.
Otherwise you can't expect to get top dollar for your stuff, when your stuff is sold all over ebay for differente prices.
Just sell your stuff on eBay if you want to get some money for it. I do the same and i always get close to what its worth.
Can't expect a figure worth 100$, with 50 of them on eBay, to sell it for 100$. Make offers available and accept decent offers.
I never sell and rarely by from these type of shops… I just don’t get good vibes from these places….

man I dont know if you live under a rock or what. but trading in toys and stuff for quick cash has been a thing for a long time. your local retro toy shop works the same way. how do you think they get product for the store. Its not a rip off. These people can say no and then sale it on ebay them selves. but no they make their own choices. and Toy federation has a business to run. retro toy shops wouldn't exist if they gave full market for products. but yes this is just like a pawn shop. its part of the collecting hunt man. often these people use these trade in moments to trade up. hardly ever do people take only cash. They come in with a mission to get a grail item or a harder to find item for alot of common toys that they bring in.
Your aware that they have to turn around and make a profit off the stuff that’s brought in right? Economics isn’t your strong suit
