    I just got a string of tears and read a blog where they suggested bottom watering. I couldn’t find any RUclips videos confirming this as a good way to water until your video. You’ve done such a good job at explaining why one might chose to water from the bottom vs top watering. No extra frills, no buy my merch, just straight, great info. Thank you for that!

    Thank you so much for this! I'm new to having succulents & was just constantly on my toes when top watering. In some cases, I had to use cutips to wipe narrow areas of my succulents that got too wet. All the other videos just advised to be careful when watering but never mentioned bottom watering! Now I can water my plants with ease without worrying about damaging their beautiful leaves. If all goes well, I'm thinking of expanding my plant collection with some string of pearls. Thanks again~

      So glad that you found our videos, hope that these can help you. Bottom watering is indeed helpful in terms of avoiding overwatering, but it's best to alternate between top watering and and bottom watering as the downside of bottom watering is salt build up over time

    Extremely helpful! Mine are outside in 90+ degree heat (F) but the humidity is also that high. I need a better soil mix, too, but top watering just isn't doing it. I feel much more confident in bottom watering and *how* to do it properly! Thank you so very much!!

    To clarify, bottom watering is also great since plants that aren't dry won't soak up any water while plants that are dry will soak up. Meaning, bottom watering allows the plant to soak up only what it needs, correct?

      Hi there, you're right. This is a good way for strengthening the roots and allowing them to develop directly toward the moisture.

    I’ve had my string of pearls for a little while now and I’ve always done bottom watering because I was afraid of damaging the top. I wasn’t sure if I was doing it right for so long. Then my boss got a string of pearls plants and watered it from the top and it died in less than two weeks of her having it :( I liked how you explained everything so well! It was hard finding a video that showed how to water my plant! Thank you!

      Hi Andrea, thank you so much for your sharing! Top watering is fine if you can control the amount of water they're getting. However, if you're afraid of the plant getting rot due to overwatering then bottom watering is highly recommended. So glad that you found this video helpful, please let us know if you have any other questions. Hope your plant is doing okay ^^

    If this technique is so effective why would someone prefer top watering plants vs bottom? Can certain plants only have top watering?

    • @SucculentsBox
      @SucculentsBox  3 года назад +3

      Hi there, bottom watering ensures that the entire root structure gets watered, but salt will build up over time. Top watering encourages the presence of fungus and gnats while the water can be channeled out of the soil, not being able to reach the entire root structure so it's easy to overwater them. There is no perfect method, it is recommended that you know well about the pros and cons of each method to know what is the right one for your plant.

    I own a Zebra plant and i bottom water it. Today, it showed some signs of overwatering, could it be because of the soil being not well-draining enough?

    • @SucculentsBox
      @SucculentsBox  2 года назад

      Yeah, maybe, having a suitable potting mix that is well-draining will help your plants thrive. Succulents do not like to sit in wet soil for too long. You should also pay attention to your personal watering habits too; you can find some valuable recommendations on this blog. Check it out

    Is there any way of doing this with a pot without a drainage hole?

    • @SucculentsBox
      @SucculentsBox  2 года назад

      If your pot doesn't have a drainage hole then I'm afraid that this method does not work. You can consider drilling a drainage hole for your pot
