Lots of the orphanages are horrible and the conditions children with mental disability live in are horrid , the children rarely live past 20 years old in those places .
And still the Russian government has stopped all, or almost all possibility for adoption to other countries.

It's sad that she declined the treatment for her alcohol dependency. But at least she did not beg for money. Just asked for some wallpaper to make the place look better and to bring her son to an optometrist to check his eyes out. She's showing signs she still has some interest in the well being of her family and not at the point where she wants just the bottle. There's still some hope with this one. Hopefully one day she feels ready to fight off the alcohol demon and ask for treatment.

I am glad she talked with you and I don't dislike her. I just don't want her to feel judged, but I wish she would have gotten help. It's obviously hurting her in her life, even if she doesn't drink everyday. I have known many people who are sober for weeks, but still alcohol destroys their life. If your children, family, and husband are telling you to stop, you have to stop.

Alcohol like any drug affects the brain, affects our thinking, our attitude, our beliefs and ideas slowly over time. So slowly that we do not notice the changes happening but others around us can see its progression, but we ourselves cannot. We believe that we have control over this drug when we use it, we can leave it at anytime we choose, that the people around us are the ones at fault. Most addicted people can only see this when they have lost everything and that they are alone by themselves.

I think the hangover symptoms the mother was describing are called the DTs -- delirium tremens -- and maybe if she realizes that's what she is experiencing she will be more apt to accept help. You did all you can to present the help you're offering, but she must take the final step herself to accept and admit she needs the help and has no power over alcohol. Only then will she be ready to make the change.

You gave the father some much needed help, you gave the kids some much needed joy, you gave the mother some great advice. I had just wished you had got that sweet little dog off of that short chain. That’s not how you treat an animal. Thank you for all that you do.

I feel bad for the poor doggos. They are so short tethered and only want to be around the people. That is sad to me.

If you know your drinking causes problems, but you can stop anytime, the fact that you don't, means you don't WANT to stop. Whether she can or not seems irrelevant, as she simply doesnt want to, and life hasn't gotten bad enough to inspire change.

Huge life changer for this family. Overwhelmed by your kindness. Thank you for helping this family. Mother doesn't want help and is only thinking about herself. Sad the whole family has to suffer through this. Very sad.

Maybe when the wife sees how the general family situation gets better and everyone improves, she will make changes herself.
