the way the show ousted angelea and took advantage of her is what really put me off for good. she came to the show as a recent trafficking survivor and they humiliated, manipulated, and criticized her all to the the crown away as punishment for her past. it was disgusting.
adding the fact they were setting her up to win even when she wasn't THE best option on this season, I always felt they downplayed Dominique and Allison just to favor Angelea, but tbh her performance throughout the season was not amazing... But pulling that card right after giving her the win was just downright evil.
can't believe these ladies did this show TWICE 😞
This show is about perpetuating negative work environments and saying “this is just how things are” rather than trying to break the cycle.

That always bothered me about the show even before I truly realised how badly the models were treated.
Our society has enough violence. Why would ANTM promote this???
That would be nice but people aren't nice just because you want them to be. That's not realistic. It's a job. They are not your friends. It's rare a model will even be working with the same crew every time. Everone wants to hurry up and get the job done. If they have to stop to continually give the model direction then time and money is wasted. It's not about being nice or mean, it's about getting the job done. Each person decides if they want to take it personal or not.
This is just like my workplace!
Please keep in mind when Mr. Jay is giving them instruction and you are thinking "what the heck" Mr. Jay is not anyone that should be giving direction to these girls. Go back to the first episode of the first season. Tyra introduced him as HER HAIRDRESSER.

Saying Bre is now guarded is obvious. ALL the girls are guarded this season. They now know all the tricks the show was doing. And she was obviously not gonna give them the drama they wanted.

You can have this” hits even worse when you think about the fact Angelea DID technically win and then they took the win away from her when they claimed to have only just found out about her “escort” past…it was never something she was gonna have because they never were gonna let her actually win!
But given how subjective it is, I don’t know why the ultimately let Angelea win. Why not have the final panal and be like “Yeah you sucked.” I mean, they lie through their teeth all the time do what’s the difference
@@Souten66 Absolutely, they where setting her up to win all the way through the season so much even when she wasn't one of the best, they over-hyped her as this "Amazing case of redemption" when in most asignments she was kinda average compared to some of the girls this season, and in turn they put down a lot of the girls in favor of Angelea.
I'm guessing they knew about it the whole time or at least found out part way through but wanted to wait until the end to oust her to humiliate her even more.

Tyra saying Alex and Bre’s photos weren’t as amazing compared to their original cycles and I agree. But the thing is, their cycle had high fashion themed photoshoots especially Alexandria (which she excels at) compared to the ratchet, low budget photoshoots this season 💩

Too be fair, the photoshoots theme on Season 17 is so tacky, crappy, and even weird.

That's you realize this show is losing their quality.
Hell's even the photoshoot since Season 19 forwards look like something that you'll see on Teen Magazines not in Vogue or Harper's Bazaar anymore.
I think the vibe of the judging for this episode was definitely towards 'nice', but i think it was because Coco was there, unlike their other weird judges, she was/ is a super big name and from Andre to Tyra to Nigel, they were all likely to want to work with her and them insulting models to their face would not have done any favours with Coco. I think.
I think the same thing and I remember it happened before too, I think it was with kris jenner photoshoot that they were being way less hard than they usually are with the girls
you are absolutely correct. Mr Jay bringing up the past like that was inappropriate. This is a nationally televised program! Why air out her dirty laundry like that???? You came from such a hard place and you thrived....would have covered all that. She knows what she's been through. As viewer, I don't need to know that.
If I remember correctly, she ended up winning this season but they rescinded after they learned she used to be an escort. They did her so dirty 😭 I almost feel like they wanted to publicly embarrass her

Everything done to Angelea with the win was crap. But this moment wasn't imo.
He brought up where she chose to sleep during the casting call. Showing her drive to be on the show (part of her original story arc)
It's not like she lived her life in a NYC bus terminal. She lived in Buffalo.
She brought it up herself the first time she auditioned for the show on TV. She did not make it through that time if I remember correctly. Then she came back again and made it and was on her first cycle. Then came the all starts.
From my memory, she said she slept at port authority when she went to that first audition. So it was all a callback to her original season and the auditions.
So basically they're mad that Alexandria wasn't as "controlling, tough, or divisive" as she was in Cycle 16 so she's "getting soft"
And Bre is "guarded" because she's not doing Granola Gate meltdowns anymore and the few issues she had were reasonable or trying to DE-ESCALATE
Taking into account that on the first episode they had Alexandria walk into a crowd of people booing her... Yup... They expected her to be the same...

Hulu added ANTM episodes recently. I was watching season 8, and my 22 year old son came over to do laundry. He laid on the couch, I'm watching the show, I thought he was on his phone. He looks up, and says, "who's the guy?"( It was "Mr. Jay"). Then he said, "man, he is sooo toxic, those poor ladies should run." then went back to his phone.
Mr. Jay is so manipulative the way he tears them down to the point of them crying, only to then assume the role of protecter and friend. I hope he is just doing this for TV because that is psycho behavior
He did this on Canada's Top Model. He has since later said that he did this specifically "for TV" 😢 Which I don't believe as many girls watched this show and saw so many negative examples of his behavior that stuck around and many like me never forgot.

Girl when Angelea took a moment for herself, I was so hoping for Coco to come by and help her out, but instead the worst person had to come by 😑 Nevermind the worst person would've been Tyra coming out from under a makeup desk or something.
Mr Jay is doing what an abuser does: They break them down and then builds them up like he never did anything wrong.
The sad part Mr Jay got booted by Tyra in the end .. I know some people would have said karma

The fact that there is a professional model from outside the show forced them to put a photographer with amazing directions, that's what I'm getting. Cause I think she would be vocal and the girls would pick up that they have to be respected too!
Allison had a rough shoot, but she had the best shot by far. In her shot, she makes you BELIEVE in her character. You know she's that foul-mouthed girl who picked a fight with another girl and even though she's the one who's out-of-line, she gets the OTHER girl kicked out of the club/bar and taunts her as she's escorted out. That one picture sets the entire scene and backstory! She really sold it.
I lost it when Bre yelled, “Call the cops!”
You'd expect the show to actually show pictures of these advertisements of women fighting as the sideshow while Jay says this, but there aren't... What does that tell you?
That they were either too cheap to purchase the rights to show them, or were known for what they are and those that owned the rights wanted nothing to do with them.
I'm sure there's been campaigns that had aggression or fighting in them (I can picture a model standing facing the camera, hands on hips, teeth bared), but no real campaign is going to want their brand or photographer associated with this nonsense

Angelea has been through so much hardship in her life and she put her heart and soul into this competition. She wanted this and it was her game to win. She did win and they did her dirty and took it away. They wasted her time and put her through more distress.

But they whittled that down to ‘escorting’ and took the win away from her even though she didn’t chose to do that and was heavily traumatised.

And THAT parallels with all the furor among white tennis players when confronted with the sheer power coming from the Williams sisters every time they used the technique of the expulsion of breath as noise when serving and returning hits.

This cycle def proved that this show was a reality show and not a modeling show. Contestants were literally brought back because of their so called crazy and wild personalities, and not their modeling skills.

I really, really appreciated you saying that no one wants to be reminded of something awful from their past during another difficult moment. I had a former friend do this to me during a random unprovoked aggressive tirade from her. And i was like, why are you even bringing this up?? Who does that while claiming "I am and I was so nice to you when you were in this terrible place, so how dare you say anything that could be read as remotely bad about me?"

I always notice when Jay or Tyra puts on those fedoras, they think they're more important/superior.
I really get second hand embarrassment watching this cycle of ANTM. Supposed to be "All Stars" but turned out to be nothing but mess. Why couldn't they have kept the same formula as Cycle 15?
I was not a fan of Dominique in cycle 10 but she really excelled in cycle 17. She was the true all star this cycle. All of her photos were great. Even the episode she got eliminated.

You know what’s great about The Great British Baking Show? They have a competition, complete with critiques and eliminations, without being nasty or mean or hypercritical of contestants. It IS possible. ANTM just survives on drama.
I think that the attitude of the judges leads to a really positive attitude where the contestants (mostly) help eachother. In the early seasons, with Mel and Sue presenting, if a contestant broke down they would run over and start swearing and saying brand names so they couldn't use the footage.

Tyra in critiquing angelea just explained the entire concept of antm as a whole it's a reality show and they're all contestants put here solely for the sheer entertainment of tyra and the judges especially since nobody actually wins anything to help them pursue modeling

And Mr. Jay! After his time on this show, he wrote his book that was supposed to be a thinly veiled reveal of what went on behind the scenes, and then he goes out and basically blames Tyra and production, but like, you said what you said sir. Big blame it on the edit vibes.
yeah, I saw a few of his interviews and for a while I believed some of it... But honestly he pretty much blames most of the questionable decisions on Tyra saying that she pretty much picked all of the concepts and he had to execute, but tbh he was an instigator all through the show and went with everything he was assigned with so...
I think people may think bringing up the bus thing is a way of giving hope in a “look where you were and look where you are now” kind of way, but I think that just reminds a person of everything there is to lose, and would freak me out.

I like this coverage of the show! I agree with you that Mr. Jay didn't have to bring up the sleeping in the bus stop moment, but I think he did that for the audience's benefit to remind us of where she came from, which is even more messed up because she shouldn't have been exploited like that.

Him making a point to say what was the struggle is the problem, he did that for views and tv drama.
You can just say you're strong and you've come so far. Remember you have struggled and those struggles is what makes you stronger.

Kroger is based in Ohio (not sure where it was founded) and Meijer was founded and still has it's headquarters in Michigan - so they are definitely Midwest based brands!
Lisa was very outspoken in and out of the show. So even though the judges disliked her for it, she is undeniably one of the best girls to have come out of the show so they can't justify eliminating her.

I think Mr Jays comment was coming from a good place. It seemed to me like a reminder of where she came from and to be thankful for the growth to be where she’s at now. She has risen from her lowest point to a point where she’s been recognized because of her natural talents and just who she is as a person. It could definitely go both ways tho depending on perspective! Love this one tho! Thanks for the video 💕

My thought on the comment is that he is encouraging her by reminding her how far she has come. Maybe it didn't need to be said but, he told her to continue to go for her dreams because they were within her reach. "You've come from really struggling to sleeping in a bus station." to now "you're so refined and you look the part". He's telling her to keep moving forward and not go backwards. So many times we try to use our past to excuse our shortcomings for our future. Mr Jay is telling Angelea that she doesn't have to do that because her future is within her grasp and she should go for it. Being reminded of where you came from can help you put your eye back on the ball and keep it there.

It’s so obvious. Last time they told Angelea to work on her angles and then this shoot they put her on the ground making it extra difficult to move, move, move. Being a snake in the grass is not a good look for anybody. I really hope that someday the producers and main cast of this show look back with sincere regret on how they treated these women over the years. Their greed just shines through …anything for a buck. That is such a sad life to live.

With your question about bringing up the model's past, I think it depends on her. Some people react differently, and although ANTM is good at recognizing where people are weak and hitting them there, it also means they're probably aware of how to motivate them and get them out of bad mindsets. That makes it all the more unfortunate that they usually choose to tear them down, but in Jay's case, the model seemed genuinely grateful, so I can't call it inappropriate.
I think that the only thing that Mr. Jay had to work hard on was coming up with ways to justify these outlandish photoshoots!
I think *sometimes* Jay actually feels a little guilty about what he says. I feel like that's what happened with Angelea and why he gave her a pep talk. Or he just wanted to come across as compassionate after being the one who made her cry.
I don't feel Mr. J cares about those girls. His approach to Angelea in this episode was one of many examples.
That's not the way to cheer someone when her spirit was near the edge of cracking up. You just don't feel the warmth from his words and his facial expression.

Angelea and Allison were my faves. Angelea really did her best to stay away from drama this season and handled herself very well, too bad what they did to her. Allison is bad a** 😂 she just doesn't care. Loved Bre too, too bad they decided to eliminate her from the competition so soon. She's an absolutely gorgeous queen, happy she decided to just leave without doing the whole "let's hug goodbye" pantomime. Such a power move

Yes, we have Kroger here in Houston, very popular grocery store here. I love seeing these videos, mostly because I cannot believe some of the things they said to these women and how they treated them. Seeing these episodes today insane, they put these girls through mental hell just for entertainment purposes. While they coukd have just stopped and left, the conracys they were under would have cost them so much money if they quit the show and left.
