You are absolutely right about the producers not feeding the models, because we saw Lisa talk about that during the Express photo shoot. Also, Angelea did an interview after the season aired talking about how they would intentionally send the girls on set without eating all day so that they could make them cranky and get more drama for the show. It’s truly disgusting going back and seeing how the girls were treated during this absolute circus of a show, especially in later seasons.

I remember reading that the reason both Kayla and Bianca got eliminated was because they both stood up for the whole group because the producers weren’t feeding them so they both basically led the charge against the production to make sure the girls were all fed properly since they often weren’t given food. It makes sense why they eliminated both of them when both of their photos were good.

The real tea of this, which actually dovetails with alison being hungry is Kayla and Bianca apparently refused to film until the models got fed this week, so basically Tyra decided to union bust because the girls tried to insist on being fed.

The way Alexandra totally called them out for the dumb idea, but the editors used that clip... Everyone is aware that this is a circus, but the models still expect some level of respect and everyone is just laughing at them like, "Dance, monkey, dance!"

There's almost a level of sadism to the All-Star Cycle that the contestants definitely picked up on. I'm curious how the show was pitched to them and how that compares to what actually happened.
I didn't notice when it aired, but watching now it's almost like some of it was designed to humiliate models who went on to be successful and/or remind the world/industry that they were ANTM contestants first.

To be fair this is a reality show about a modeling competition, not a modeling competition. If they end up making a long-term career out of it seems incidental.
I remember Tyra back in the day talking about how she didn’t do photo shoots she felt uncomfortable with. That she had a reputation to uphold. It’s soooo funny how she says she would do all this ridiculous stuff. She’s such a liar and hypocrite. I also remember she said she would bring her mamma with her to help support her for things she didn’t wanna do. And she always talks about having integrity, self respect, know your image and uphold it. Yet she forces and critiques the girls for not doing things that felt uncomfortable with or didn’t agree with.

She set boundaries when they asked her to be on the show and they still asked something of her she made clear she wasn't going to do and when she didn't do it they eliminated her. Mike rosenthal is absolutely amazing.
I remember almost every photoshot he did on the show and he really transformed every ridiculous concept in actually very good photos .

As a former model I have appreciated your commentary for the last couple years, on this show as well as showing your shooting process. You said so many things on this episode specifically that new models (all models) need to remember and use! They are HUMANS! Thank you so much for always keeping things even and fair from your experiences!
What makes me so sad is how Allison has said she struggle(s/d) with disordered eating and admits she's so hungry on set. I just remember going through the same situation and how hard it was to accept/admit that I was hungry.

I haven't even seen the bath tub episode , but i already know Tyra is lying when she says she 'would do it '. If it's humiliation or something silly , there's no way Tyra would embarrass herself . I'm just glad some people like the lovely Bianca actually stood up for herself. I wish that something like this was airing now, but all the 'judges' are models who genuinely want to help the aspiring models and do every shoot along with the girls. Actual constructive criticism and praise was a huge part of what was missing.

Maybe Tyra would have done it when she was starting out...because the industry is exploitative and was even worse then. But, she always pontificates about how she's there to advocate for models...so why isn't she supporting the contestants who self-advocate?
What's amazing is on her Tyra show she had an entire episode dedicated to girls being scammed and put in compromising situations by fake or sketchy model calls.
@@Elaan021 I still think Tyra refused plenty of things that made her uncomfortable... and even if she did some of them , we all know today she would never do anything she thinks is degrading or too silly, as she would think it's beneath her . The way Tyra and the other judges nit pick at the models and make them jump through hoops, seems to come from either a bitter place or the fact they just love making fun of the girls. I've seen quite a few videos... where they laugh at the models , when they make them do even more ridiculous embarrassing stunts. There's zero support and zero constructive criticism. It's all about drama & ratings for the show ..... they use the models .
I think that "The Face" a UK TV Show was kinda like that, contestants were mentored by supermodels, but having never watched it I don't actually know how they treated

The real reason Angelea was disqualified from winning is the random bystander calling Angelea Tyra and Tyra getting jealous.

Whats funny is that Tyra always talks about her first casting and how they told her to lose a bit more weight, and her mom said NO. So Tyra has been in a situation where a job has asked her to do something and she refused because she thought it was wrong for her image.
So Tyra def has been in Bianca shoes and knew exactly what Bianca meant when it comes to refusing a job.
Where? When? She also talked about being tired of eating ONLY chicken and vegetables for years. She talked about rebranding herself AFTER her successful career in Europe. So where does she say this about her first casting? When she flew over the first time, it was by herself. Her mom was at the gate sending her off. You mean in LA? When?

For a claim to fame, sure seems obscure almost as if it didn't happen. They mention her nose, the subsequent medical surgery...but weight issue? Again, when she started to "develop" in Europe after her high fashion career was cemented, her mom and her were given a list of all the designers who would no longer work with her because of those physical changes. This prompted her career change segue into VS and mainstream stuff. "We're going to order a pizza". Bizzare how she was already subsisting on chicken and vegetables being booked for high fashion gigs as a skinny model (her own admission booking a fashion show number record for a season or whatever) yet was apparently told to lose weight some where some place some time no one remembers during her "first casting". If her mom said NO, why the chicken and vegetable diet restriction for YEARS during the height of her early career?

Mollie Sue cycle 6 was massively sucessful: they didn't want us! (antm girls) esp after cycle 7 with CariDee.
Going by nda expired interviews, a majority of girls have cited being on Antm and being refused work or in some cases booking work bc of antm. Not that any prospective client or casting agent actually watched the show or knew what they did or even cared. Next.

As someone who grew up watching this show and ended up in arts/entertainment I had a very skewed perception of what healthy boundaries in your work look like thanks a lot to the rhetoric on the show and I wish I had your mindset years ago
Same but with theatre. I was in a production in college and anytime we called out the director for her toxic behavior and hurtful rhetoric she would always reply with "Welcome to the business!" like first, this is a community college summer theatre program. This ain't exactly "the business," lady! And second even if it were, why do YOU have to contribute to the toxicity?! I feel Tyra was similar. Like i'm sorry but the whole "i'm preparing you for the real world where people are going to bully you by bullying you myself!" is just such an awful approach and I see it EVERYWHERE!
I can't get over how well this would have turned out if the girls had been wearing evening gowns or wedding dresses on the back of the bike. Imagine what they could have done with some billowing fabric.

They got rid of her and Bianca because they were speaking up against production and they way they were treating all of the models. Notice this is the first time they got rid of 2 models.
They kept Shannon because her morals "come from God" vs Bianca's who has her own that aligns with her work ethic. I have nothing against Shannon or her being religious but I do agree with that it's a sort of double standard from the judges that they're like "oh hers is religious we can't seem anti-christian" or whatever it was
I can't respect Bianca more because of her standing up for her convictions! She's 100% right! Beyonce would never pose in a tub early in her career either because that sets a precedent for where they can start the push to make you even more uncomfortable all in the name of "furthering" your career.
I also think it was much more entertaining for them to have her as a contestant because she had a lot of rules for what she would and wouldn't do which sold better as "super religious uptight model!!11!" vs a model who directly challenged the show's manipulative tactics and stood her ground against the judges. in other words lol, Shannon never truly challenged the judges directly bc it always stemmed from religious morals where Bianca had no fear standing up and calling them out (I hope that makes sense lol)

So many of the models had EDs and they definitely exploited that through the various seasons. Telling them they are eating “too much” while simultaneously not feeding them and then having “interventions” because they didn’t “eat enough.” The models went through so much. Also to not feed them for the drama when they are in an industry where EDS are more common!

Wow Kayla had the best photo, but still went home. The competition aspect of this show has never been a priority.
Notice how Tyra doesn’t even say she would’ve done a shoot like that, she says “If I were YOU, and that was the assignment, I’d do it.” Again, she’s putting contestants on the show down because she believes she’s so far above them.

Let me start this off and say this is one of the most ridiculous shoots ever. The worst of this cycle. Like what's the point???
Tyra bringing Kathy Griffin is exactly what this show is - a joke.
A - This concept is so lazy. At least do multiple reality show stars and ACTUALLY try to go for their likeness. Laura's look reminds me of Nicole Richie if anything.
B - The whole panel was basically "know your place". They need a lesson on POWER DYNAMICS. The models they mentioned? Yeah that would be a million dollar deal at minimum. They'll probably be promoting that with a high-profile director probably on TV or commercials, not a random rooftop with strangers. Bianca had none of that.
C - The double elimination probably had something to do with a previous shoot (I don't want to spoil).
“This wig” 🤣🤣 I’m willing to bet that it’s the same stylist from Cycle 7 with Anchal as Stedman 😂

This cycle had some terrible photoshoots ... the "pot ledom"/top model backwards music video shoot, the "motion editorial" that was really just a shameless promotion for Tyra's Modelland book, and of course, this one.

That Pot Ledom was so ridiculous. I remember watching it having zero media literacy and going “This is ridiculous.” They’re trying to be models, not singers/songwriters. And then Tyra had to insert herself into it

I hate the reasoning of "well you're not THAT famous or well-known, so you have to do what we say". Like how Lisa said they have to pay their dues in the previous video. I get "paying your dues", but that doesn't mean you have to do things you feel are demeaning or just don't align with who you are/how you want to conduct yourself.
I've said it before, but Tyra never liked Bianca, not sure why. I'm glad Bianca pushed back a lot this season, it was honestly very refreshing amd satisfying to watch.

I think Allison just wanted one to eat. According to a lot of the contestants this season, the girls were not fed well, so they were probably hungry a lot. Being hungry makes people irritable which is good for causing more drama.

The Dollar Store comparison was so accurate. The shoots these models were doing back in their original cycles were way more high fashion. This season’s challenges and photo shoots were cheap, lazy and lame.

I feel like no matter what the girls do, the judging panel flips a coin to see what they are going to promote. Do we send them home for disagreeing with what we say or do we send them home for agreeing? One episode they will tell a girl off for being too thin, the next for 'disrespecting their body' and putting on weight. They send one home for sticking with their morals, but then the minute one refuses to pose nude, they are sent out the door. They tell some to have more personality as they are not memorable, then others are told to reign it in, but then they are sent home because they have lost their spark. They tell a girl that they need more confidence, but any girl with confidence is called arrogant and told they need to remember they are at the bottom. Basically, these girls could do no right and we unfortunately were gaslit into thinking this was what reality of the modelling industry was. How many girls who watched the show and wanted to be models were tricked into thinking posing nude when they were uncomfortable was OK? Or that complaining about a male models inappropriate behaviour made themselves 'unprofessional'? These people did more harm than the actual industry.

According to Angelea and some other contestants on this season, production starved the girls for hours and hours each day because they knew it would make them cranky and irritable and that would lead to more drama for the show.
You know I used to think Nigel was the sensible, reasonable one back in the day but oof, some of his comments do not look good in the cold light of day. Also I don't make Bianca right in every moment but I love that she remains true to herself in a very dignified way. I can respect people who show their emotions harder too but something about her way of subtly saying "I know I was right but they're entitled to their opinion" is killer.
Great episode Jessica! I Lost any remaining respect I had for Tyra and Kathy when they shamefully put down a woman for standing up for herself and setting her own boundaries. It was confirmed in an Oliver twixt interview by one of the girls (maybe bianca?) that Bianca and Kayla were both eliminated to make a point because they were calling out production behind the scenes for withholding food
She asked Shannon if she wanted one to eat, and he said she was going to take it on the set and Bianca then said well now you can’t have one!
Im sure if Alison asked for one to eat she probably would have given her one, but Bianca was thinking they were all going to steal her idea and so she just shut it down for everyone

Bianca and Alexandria were 100% right this season. They called out all the gimmicks, in every episode. This season was definitely to make the contestants look bad. Hearing all the bts stuff from Lisa and Angelea makes it make sense, and It’s so sad because this could’ve been the highest fashion season. The girls were almost all working and signed. It could’ve really give ANTM some legitimacy but the gimmicks and D celebs ruined it.
I agree 1000% on what Bianca was saying the judges keep forgetting that these women already knew the tricks of top model at this point and to have a reputation of a fantastic modeling career I agree!! let’s be for real Naomi, Kate Moss they wouldn’t do that either including Tyra be for real!!
I think it would've been more effective if Bianca went harder on Tyra and specifically said SHE wouldn't be doing something like this, and she knows it....But then again, Tyra is weird in all measures, so maybe she would. That's just Tyra's weird personality, but Naomi wouldn't do it.
The half assed concepts, retouching, Jay's intentionally bad direction, and the obvious choosing of shots that ARE NOT their best tells me that the number one goal of this show is to exploit and humiliate women. There's just no way it's not.

The whole thing just reminds me of a mean girl type situation. Like Tyra pretends to give these girls opportunities and a platform to show their expertise. But really she just gets the young pretty things that she’s envious of and actually tries to humiliate them with these goofy ideas.

Bianca has a point. Shes a working model. Its an All star cycle. Challenges on top model all star cycle should have challenges not like previous2 cycles. It will make a working model look bad. Bianca can do whatever she feels right. The challenges are nonsense

I think they purposely eliminated both modes bc they were launching a protest vs. production for the treatment of the models, regarding the starving of the models or phone privileges or something. I think it was Bianca's idea to stand up for the girls and Kayla took part, and they both got eliminated afterwards. Kinda the same thing that happened with Claire in Cycle 10 protesting for phone privileges. Top Model and their double standards.........

Well Eva (from cycle 3) interviewed them for their perfume challenge, she was also on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and one of her final photoshoots in Japan was like an anime girl on a motorcycle so my guess would be Tyra/ANTM wanted to one up a past photoshoot by making it more dynamic but also lacked any interest in creating an original photoshoot.
That was crazy coincidence considering Eva didn't join RHOA until YEARS after this cycle aired.

This photoshoot with an actual high fashion campaign feel would have been amazing! But they had to shove the models into being Nene and Snooki. Which makes these pictures unusable for the models portfolio.
They gave Shannon the axe episodes later for the same reasons they kept her.
Tyra probably wanted to say " you're not me" but realized that it'd be a little too narcissistic
And they later eliminate Shannon for sticking up to her morals 😂
To answer your question “would Tyra get in the bathtub to sell perfume” I would say yes. She’s always willing to do something stupid for attention because she’s so desperate to stay relevant. But just because she’s ok with degrading herself to further her career doesn’t mean everyone else is or should follow suit.

I feel that Tyra should need to do each photoshoot as the models are doing as well. To show that she too would do it and show an example how she would do it. Either she does the photoshoot before the girls arrive for theirs and before showing off the girls photos, she shows her photoshoot first. That I have felt she should be doing since the show started. Be a role model and do what you're making the other girls do as well. The one photoshoot that ticked me off was the pool incident where the girls were so cold and was forced to do so and 1-2 of them deals with cold differently due to body differences and the one was so frozen that she couldn't move but was shammed for not speaking up earlier, but she did by stating it was too cold. But she would have been shamed if she had stopped and spoken up as told.
So Tyra is basically saying that it's expected of Bianca to put herself in humiliating situations because she's way lower in rank than alot of other models and celebrities? So when you get to the same rank as Beyonce, you can turn down humiliating stuff?
Also its weird that they brought back these tv personalities that people know of, drove them down Hollywood and complained about them getting distracted like the irony is burning a hole through my chest

@12:30 re sharing pickles, no. The other lady on bottom right has a styrofoam tray with food on it, so there's food available to everyone. If the entire jar will be in the shoot then the jar would look better full. Other models can wait until she's done with her shoot if they want a pickle.
