    Tyra is confusing. She'll tell Yaya to stop being so proud of her culture and will tell April to embrace her culture more bc that's what they want. She'll tell Camille to tone it down and will tell Mercedes to step it up a notch, attitude/confidence wise. Even here, she says Catie may not be emotionally ready for the dog eat dog modelling world ..and turns around and say Camille is too callous. Make it make sense.

    The lack of body autonomy in this show is insanity to me. Models and actors wouldn't be forced to permanently dye or cut their hair for a shoot. A wig would be used. They really didn't like Camille due to her not showing enough emotions, in their eyes, but she was there to win, not to show emotions, she was there to be the best model and for the most part she was, but they had to use words like aggressive and have random fights picked with her to get her to react etc etc to get the angry black woman storyline going, which for the most part they failed at as she as far as I recall never gave them that reaction, but they kept pushing for it.

Hearing the judges trying to pretend like she was aggressive I immediately came back to upvote this comment. There was nothing aggressive about her. Also like yeah Nigel, was super rude, and it just reminds me that people in older generations especially equate politeness to being subservient/obedient and quiet, and rudeness to confidence, questioning, or explaining, which is very weird to me. Nothing about calmly explaining what happened and why it was like that is rude or aggressive. You know what was aggressive though, that girl Sara being aggressively lacking in empathy for Catie's phobia of heights, that still doesn't make her aggressive, just her attitude in that context as none of the girls demonstrated outright aggressive behaviors in any of the clips shown here anyways, least of all Camille who was super nice and charming above all in my opinion anyways. She falls out of Tyra-speak when tired, overly emotional, talking to friends, or whenever else she just can't be bothered and reverts to her natural speech patterns just as many of us with strong foreign accents also tend to do. I adopted a very generic-sounding American accent that didn't come naturally which I use outside of my cultural community and home so that the people I meet treat me more like one of them instead of as an ignorant tourist, suspicious outsider, or second-class citizen. If I meet someone else with an accent from a similar part of the world where I came from, my instinct is to drop my faux American accent to make them feel more welcome and comfortable with me. I certainly don't do that to demean anyone. Adopted accents are learned defense-mechanisms. I understand they can rub people the wrong way, but they do come from an outsider's need for self-defense and belonging rather than an insider's urge to cause offense, belittlement, or discomfort to others.

    It makes me so mad to hear someone say someone should shut up about a phobia because they don’t have that same phobia. I have such a bad fear of heights, I’m likely to have a straight up panic attack just getting on top of a full sized van. I know cuz I have done exactly that. It took 2 grown people to try to get me down off the van as I was crying and clinging in fear and panic.

    The sole purpose of this show was to break women down for entertainment. PERIOD. If theyre confident, break that. If theyre nervous, exacerbate that. If they cant be broken, its bad for business. Its sadistic & sick 🤢🤢🤢 They assumed the audience was as sick as them, but we reeeeally just wanted to learn about the world of modeling & watch an awesome competition. WE were rooting for them - the show itself and the contestants. But I guess they thought that wasnt interesting enough. Perhaps a projection of Tyras insecurities about modeling not being a "serious" or respected career. But we do respect it, even more so after seeing the legitimate aspects of the job.

      They have a legal team which draws up an air-tight contract giving the production all rights and whoever signs as a contestant no rights. If you want to be on their reality show, you sign away all your human rights including the right to sleep, right to privacy, right to humane treatment, and the right to sue if you are mistreated or injured. Usually your out is that you can quit anytime you want and give up trying for the cash/prizes. While there, you agree to follow all their rules no matter how stupid or dangerous. Failure to do so is breaking your contract which leaves you open to being sued for everything you've got in life.

It was just taken for granted, and because there were so many women and gay men involved, that it was okay because they would 'look out' for women and protect them, when we know now it wasn't the case. Like, for decades girls as young as 14, 15 would go to live on their own in New York, Paris, etc. and people thought, that's just the way it works. I absolutely love all of Jessica's reaction videos, but the ending of this one cracked me up. I watched the ending alone twice 🤣

    Thanks... now as an adult i can realize what felt wrong in the show and how they did their everything to get more traction for the show. The emotional damage done there cannot be unseen and should not be ignored. And i feel so bad for the girls who put their trust into this ...meat machine... for it only to be churned out as minced meat at the end. And those who survived it... i bet they too bear scars. Tyra used to seem awesome. Now she seems like a tyrant.

      I love that!!! And very true I believe, like when a commercial catches my attention while I'm fast forwarding past it and I pause to see what it's for just based on the imagery.

    Janice is in my nightmares after all my years watching ANTM then I saw her show Janice Dickinsons Modeling Agency and it’s unhinged and deranged y’all. It’s a mess.

      It’s like the producers said “you know what’s a great idea? Let’s give an unhinged former model with a substance abuse problem and narcissism her own show where she abuses young up and coming models!”

  • @ReiKoko
    @ReiKoko Год назад +3

    I'm glad I never watched ANTM. All the "challenges" are beyond ridiculous, often have nothing to do with actual modeling, the judges are inconsistent with what they want out of the models, they body shame, they gaslight, they belittle, they're hypocritical and have either said or made the models do things that would've had most other jobs' HR departments start sweating. Tyra, in particular, is a TERRIBLE human being. I first saw her in Fresh Prince before I knew she was a model and liked her back then, but ever since seeing what she's like on TV, I'm willing to bet she's even worse IRL. I don't care how gorgeous she is or how good of a model she is, I have absolutely no respect for her whatsoever because she doesn't respect anyone else.

    You are asking so many questions and the answer is the movie series The Matrix . That is why they are wearing what they are wearing and doing what they are doing. You gotta remember when this show was made and what movies were playing at that time.

    When the model smiles too much, they will say you are making fun of the judges. When the model doesn't smile, she is cold and distant. They always have to be critical and cruel.

    I totally get your reaction, it feels like these poor young girls are being emotionally manipulated, emotionally bribed and exploited. Its really sad to watch. Love your content jessica, because of your profession, your reaction and comments have massive weight, you are validating how a lot of these girls probably feel about this show now.

    I forgot all about rollitos. They were rolled doritos, essentially takis before takis existed.
