First of all, guys, there is a brand new supergroup, which was only recently signed up by Napalm Records and they released their first single this week. They will mostly focus on creating metal covers of songs from TV shows, movies and games. This is what you are looking for: THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON - Jenny Of Oldstones (GOT cover)
This was performed in remembrance of Simon Oberender (whose name they mention) who was one of the team working with Sascha Paeth in his recording studio in Germany in which five Epica´s earlier albums were recorded. The last one was Requiem for the Indifferent from which this song comes. I like the combination of colours during this song´s lightshow. And that section in the middle is very soothing before it gets crazy once again. The anniversary version of "The Divine Conspiracy" is very similar in this regard - it was modified for Retrospect. Other songs on Epica´s heavier side are, for instance, "Victims of Contingency", "Semblance of Liberty" "Ascension - Dream State Armageddon".
It would not be me without plugging any of these two bands, at least once: MaYaN - Saints Don´t Die (official video); or another all-female Japanese band: 【MV】NEMOPHILA / DISSENSION or something rawer: 「OIRAN」(RUclips ver.) / NEMOPHILA

Amazing song, but unfortunately not very good version. I would go for the studio version with this one.
@@cancelled_user I disagree but I have a soft spot for this show so I'm biased here. Studio is also great though.
@@dac2007 I love Retrospect too, but this particular song has bad mixing. Can you hear the choir? I can't... almost. There's no comparison with the studio version where the choir is totally amazing. And Simone uses her more operatic vocals when she sings chorus, which is absolutely beautiful. In the live version she tends to belt those high notes.
@@cancelled_user I'll have to revisit both side to side, I don't have a problem with the choir here but it might sound louder in the studio version...thing is that album is the one I hear less often lol

The male choir in the second half is much much better. The live version is literally missing it.

The volume of the music is very low. Especially when compared to your voices. Otherwise, great video. Keep coming back to Epica. Once Upon a Nightmare is sure bring out some tears, it's one of the most beautiful songs you'll ever hear.

I never recommend the Retrospect version of this particular song because it's got a messed up audio. You can barely hear the choir! In the studio version it's amazing. Also, Simone tends to belt high notes in the chorus but in the album version she uses her more operatic vocals which is absolutely wonderful. I would say, not very good mixing in this live version :-/
IDK if is just me that is realizing that, but it looks Simone is getting her voice more tired along the years... That is totally normal if we forced too much our voices, but i think it's time to Simone cares more the health of her voice. Here in Brazil much singers retired themselves cuz they had lost their voices.
