Honestly, I feel like this, and the early 25th century is the best eras of starfleet. Had the dominion war and wolf 359 not have happened, starfleet would probably have vast beautiful ships meant for exploration and science. Maybe even cruise ships. I truely do love the amount of passion and beauty they put into these ships. These ships are nice to look at it, and feel honestly welcoming, aswell as big and majestic
I personally have a soft spot for the Challenger. During a behind the scenes episode, it was revealed that model makers used the conning tower of a Typhoon class submarine as the warp pylons. They showed a close up of the part, and I recognized that conning tower belonging to the Red October, which I had at the time. I recognized the brick style details along the hull and the periscope openings. I kept the Red October long into my 20s (discarded it in 2008, have no idea where). Perhaps a lame attachment, but I love it all the same... also remember the Challenger disaster of 86, so lots of nostalgia swirling with this ship.
There you are! Ive been trying to find you on Twitter (X) FB and by smoke signal! Im the one who put a lot of your ships in to Space Engine (Though a lot of them are still in a queue to be added lol) And I love your work! You mean they’re fat. 😂 They always remind me of the decadent period of Star Trek. When Star Fleet got pretentious, holier than thou, and lazy. The lean mean Constitution, Miranda, and associates where when design was at its height. No flying apartment complex, just the tools to get the job done.
I love this thing. Sitting still, it look terrible from nearly every single angle. But when it's moving, it's always gorgeous! And just think of the arcs of those phaser strips!
Thought this ship was so ugly when I was younger, but I've grown to really like it. It sits proudly with my Eaglemoss models. I always thought of the Challenger class as a sort of fast evacuation or large fast transport vessel. Great background here and great video.
🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely well done and very well executed and informatively explained in every detail way shape and form possibly provided indeed, And the Challenger Class is a very interesting design class of Starship's in its very own unique style and way indeed!,👌.
That was one thing that always bothered me about STTNG that here is this huge Galaxy class Star ship with over 1000 people on board with families etcetera suggesting these ships are out there exploring deep space away from the home quadrant and yet we never heard of them doing that. Instead a ship like the Enterprise stays pretty close to home doing boring supply runs or mapping a star cluster not that far away. It was just lazy story telling, it wasn’t until Voyager which was by accident and DS9 and the wormhole to the game quadrant that a star ship and crew really had to show it’s true potential and initiative.
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios I would think like the freedom class that it would be quite maneuverable. And upgrade it with the auto separate and it was powerful.
another ship that shows little love and attention. i love your videos. there was another ship of this design from the TMP era, depending on sources, called either the Akula class or Apollo class. both are from star trek games in the beta canon resources. nacelle on top and bottom design is very different and beautiful design. would love to see a video on these ship classes.
Until you created this episode I never cared for this design. However looking at the phaser coverage and the three shuttle bays it has alot of potential. I could also see this as a testbed for the future arrangement for the Intrepid class engines as these engines, though mounted above and below, also also lack line of sight from each other.
I really like all these TNG era Kit bash ships. There is a certain style to them and I have a particular appreciation for the smaller ships like this one: the challenger class, new orleans or the cheyenne class. Of course, the galaxy class is still king. I actually bought the Challenger eaglemoss one not so long ago. Awesome video as you usual! Keep up the good work! LLAP 🖖
My little head cannon is that Stacked nacelle designs are from federation species shipbuilding traditions. Similar to how Tellarites have embedded nacelles that show up in the steamrunner or magee class.

During the refit of the fleet after 2367 why did someone at starfleet ship buulding oerations not slap torpedeo pod or a phaser array pod on each of challenger class warp nacelle. Ps even enterpise had warp nacelle extra phaser banks added to the top of the warp nacelle after wolf 359. And later galaxy class uss uss venture came stanard with tuewarp nacelle phaser array pod
With the galaxy and nebula class being the example of ships of a multi mission type, star fleet needed single missions ships of three type 1 ships that were purposed built for a specific mission 2 ships with a large amount of its internal space able to be swapped out for mission specific equipment 3 ships in the middle that could change between a couple of different missions by having just a portion of its equipment and personnel replaced
There's a fan-made starship design that i really liked, called the: "Star Knight-class" it's hull looked like the love-child of the prometheous-class and intrepid-class. It's most destinctive design feature was her warp engine. Instead of the traditional two nacelle engine pylons, the warp engine was a oval-shaped hoop that was horizontally mounted in place where the traditional nacelles would be. The ship class was built around the time of the nemesis movie, given the type destinction of an "enhanced-deterant cruiser" euthemism like the defiant-class being an "escort".
I used to think that the Federation getting too complacent with regards to their defensive preparations after being at peace for a while a bit far fetched. Now, with how the various NATO powers were caught flat-footed with regards to the war in Ukraine I know better.
The Galaxy Class was the Constitution of the 2380s now that I think about it so like the connie alot of ships such as nebula new Orleans and the challenger all followed the galaxy lol
I always viewed this ship and the Freedom class ships to be border patrol and federation support vessels. I dont think they were weak but they were no galaxy class haha.
Yes this ship is Canon, and there is no such rule in Trek. Though Roddenberry attempted to create it, breaking it himself multiple times throughout Trek, this rule is really just a myth! And PS Roddenberry himself signed off on this design!
@@TriAngulumAudioStudios 👍 I just thought the creators of TNG were just being a bit fly with the rules. I find it interesting that the Challenger class was such a 'failure', since in case of war, the 'civilian' sector of the ship could easily be converted to carry troops. And with the installation of 'barracks' style accommodations, probably at least double or even triple the number of such 'non crew' personnel could be carried.
Yes, im a slave to starship design and its lore, been like that for 4 decades :) Ive done a video on the Akyazi Class and if I can find a 3d model of the Akula, Ill definitely be making a video on it!
Most Federation ships are ugly. Romulan, Klingon, Cardassian, Ferengi, etc. were sleek and appealing. Federation ships looked like mutant blow-dryers. The Defiant being an exception.
The ship looks good...but i thought a rule was that the nacelles needed to "see" each other cause of the radiation emitted between them would be very dangerous.

Thats a good question, though I wonder in this design, if the core is Horizontal and gets kicked out the back?
