    Thank you for taking the time, and you're a great teacher. Also, clean layout, good lighting, and good audio.

    Great vid!!! That solder joint issue looked hard to spot.
    Love my redstripe Envoy. Still a good amp that can be found VERY cheap. Did swap the reverb tank for a MOD or something along those lines. Saw/see a lot more RAGE/Blazer and Bandits, but these Envoys are my favorite peavey solid state as they simply sound good, much better than the smaller Rage, but they are not as unwieldy as the Bandits and even studio pros. Great for just a grabbing and bringing out to the garage, front porch, even small coffee shop gig or whatever. Feels like all kids should learn on an old Peavey.

    1:00 "The Zellweger tones someone was asking about in a previous stream..." That would be me. I think it was on the tour of Grand Champion's workshop. Glad I got a chance to hear that.

    Most manufacturers will glue the larger capacitors down to the board with big globs of hot glue or silicone, but *no one* bothers to use glue underneath or on the sides of the 1/4" input/output jacks. A dab or light bead of silicone adhesive under or alongside the jacks would mitigate mechanical stress and likely prevent the solder connections from working loose. Those jacks are subject to far more stress then the filter caps are!

    Good video. I was shocked when I saw you I thought I was looking at my younger brother.. But the accent gave it away. I use the same pace desoldering tool. Very old works great. I even found vacuum diaphragms and new hand sets. It will last me the rest of my life.

      Lol, I feel sorry for your brother!
      The old Pace stuff is fantastic if it hasn't been too thrashed.
      I'm yet to require a new diaphragm, but I believe they are still available.
      Thanks for watching, Monty!

    Recently picked up a Peavey Prowler 112 of the same vintage (precursor to the ValveKing) for cheap with the exact same issue on the input jacks. Took me way longer to take apart than to "fix" (I'm not a pro, but my solder job was mechanically stable). Nice sounding amp, desperately needed to be shipped with a V30 style speaker (no idea why Peavey went with the fizzy Blue Marvel instead of their Sheffield speakers), but also too heavy for me to justify keeping around as a spare. I want to pickup another mid-90's Peavey, probably Solid State, and eventually mod the cab to be a head unit. This vid makes me confident I could fix another one if I find one that's exhibiting similar symptoms to the Prowler I had!

      Man, I've been looking for a Prowler for ages. Excellent amps. Super rare here in Aus, though.

    Heard some Dimebag lead when you were jamming it out. my envoy is still on hiatus.im playing it through a Marshall MG series 10 cd practice amp.Apparantly the speaker stopped working completely,but when you plug in headphones,it sounds fine?.. I use controls for peavey saturation through the Marshall?.... For now.My peavey envoy an older model...late 80's to 90's.Should I replace the fuse?.. were you plug in to amp?

    Thanks for the quality of your content. It's so true when you say get an amp that is good on one think. Do you have some recommendations of reliable solid state amp ? mid to small sized

    • @BradsGuitarGarage
      @BradsGuitarGarage  Год назад +1

      Old Peaveys and Marshall Valvestates are good.
      Some need a bit of work at this age, but they can be had for almost nothing.

    Question:
    Can you mod that amp by adding an effects loop?

    • @BradsGuitarGarage
      @BradsGuitarGarage  Год назад +1

      Sure you can.
      Is it worthwhile? For a learning project, sure.
      For an economically viable job? Not at all.

      @@BradsGuitarGarage ok cool thanks. I love the dirty channel on mine, but it would be so nice to run delays and things without overdriving them through the front of the amp.
