- Can the Peavey Envoy 110 Transtube amp deliver? We've all heard about the solid state Peavey Bandit and the Peavey Studio Pro but what about the little brother Peavey Envoy 110? Can you get a decent tone out of this little amp? I picked one up on the used market and decided to give it a go. Have a listen and let me know what you think.

I live in Japan, and I just bought one at a second-hand store for $16 USD (2100 yen). It's in great shape. I brought it up and just finished playing through it. I was amazed at the warmth of the sound - really well designed. The EQ controls are VERY sensitive, too; they host a whole world of sound textures. The overdrive circuits are insane. I love it. I thought I could easily use this as a gigging amp. VERY impressed. And that real spring reverb! Just wonderful. Classy design, too, with that leather handle being a nice touch. Definitely a collectible. SO happy to have found this.
Incidentally, at the same store I also picked up a DOD "Grunge" amp (1997, blue). It's basically an extension of their (in)famous "Grunge" pedal. The tone of the amp is decent, too, but I'm going to try using this amp as pre-amp into a larger amp (essentially using it like a pedal for the grunge effect). This bad boy set me back another $28 (3700 yen). 🙂
I’m glad you like it. It’s such a great and affordable little amp. You got a great bargain!!
Was looking into the Envoy because the Bandit's more than I really need. I thought your demo was top notch. Subscribed. Hope you can get your 1000. :)
There is no love for the Envoy on RUclips. Great to see this video and hear what my amp could sound like if I, you know, was a better player.
Thanks for your comment Dan. I like it as a simple grab and go practice amp. Does the job nicely for me and for the price it’s tough to beat!! Cheers buddy!
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago...I have exactly the same setup you do; bought a red stripe Bandit about a year ago, and the Envoy is sitting on top of the Bandit! I'm getting to a place where I'm jamming with some people again, and I figured the Envoy would be pretty portable in a grab and go situation. Just bought a generic footswitch for it as well this week...the Peavey ones are on backorder everywhere. Between the two amps, I have everything covered. Still playing with the Envoy but haven't gotten to fully unleash her fury yet (if a drummer shows up I can try that). Dug the video and gave you a sub.
YES!!! So happy to hear that you have the same set up!! That's awesome! These little amps are just tops in my books!! Thank you SOOOOOOOOO much for the sub and for taking the time to comment on my channel. I'm just starting out so THANK YOU!!!. I hope to see you around here lots!! Cheers!!!!!
Actually an update. I've tried the Envoy on a couple of jams and it worked great! I took the Bandit one week for comparison and barely turned it up. The Envoys are loads of fun if you can drive the speaker a little bit.
Yeah they are killer little amps. I can’t believe I bought mine for 60 bucks lol. I feel like I stole it. ;)
I’ve had The peavey envoy 110 since I was 16 (36 now), it’s really hard to get rid of, it just works so well for its size.
Sure does!!
37
Same mate.. Now 42.had it since 16.. USA made.. That's the blue stripe..Had the red stripe for around 7 yrs.. killer peddle lover 🎸🎸🇳🇿👍
I’ve had several peavey transtube amps . I also have this amp. It is a great amp. It benifits from a speaker swap. This amp share the same power board as the studio pro so guess what? Just add the proper jacks to the board and clip jumper wire #1 and you have an fx loop on this amp which is a game changer .
Now there's a great tip! Thanks for sharing!
good day sir, I don't suppose it would be possible that there is an online resource or possibly a schematic photo or something you might be able to point me at for doing this?
Hi Alex. I do actually have the manual. It has a diagram. I can post a picture of it on the community tab if you like. Let me know ok?
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar That would be great! Lmk when you post that and I'll check it out!
Hi Alex. I posted a pic of it on the community tab for you. I hope it helps. Let me know ok?
i have it since 2001 my father gave it to me new, costed 180 usd it really kicked ass i liked more than marshalls and was half the price, i still have it and works good
Yeah for Peavey amps
I bought one in 2000 with my graduation money from high school. I added an on/on toggle switch in the back that switches between the speaker or the talkbox driver sitting in the back.
I’ve got a peavey rage ??. It’s kinda my secret weapon in sessions.
How I use it as an FRFR you run out of your modeler into line/phones out in which is 1/4” it gives you that amp in the room.
I use this in conjunction stereo line out and close mic the cab.
Covers a lot a ground.
Qotsa
I have one of these.
I really like the sound. I fitted a long decay MOD reverb and it's really surfy.
Could be my favourite amp I've owned 😳
Peaveys are such a good value, with the money you save avoiding mediocre amps with better marketing, you can get a few tasty upgrades like a nicer speaker or the reverb tank you mentioned and it's even better
transtube technology (a particular type of transistor power supply) is very nice on clean sounds, succeeding well in elegant jazz sounds and warm blues.
I have the older silver stipe Envoy 110. I don't play gigs anymore, but for playing at home or jamming with friends, it's darn near perfect. If I ever needed more volume from it, I have other 10-inch speakers that are more efficient than the stock speaker (mine predates the Blue Marvels Peavey eventually used). It's noticeably louder through an Eminence Lil Buddy or a Warehouse G10C.
Great Amps!
That is some tasty lead playing....and that Peavey's tone is pretty darn good too!
You are too kind. Thank you! I really like this little amp.
These do sound great, confirmed.
I have 4 Bandits! One of them red stripe. Super fun to play through and great usable tones.
Awesome Dave! I like them too!
Nice vídeo! Thank you for the demonstration
Yamashiro Ronaldo thank you for the kind words! I also really appreciate your subscription:) have a great day!
Lucas Crossley thank you, you too have a nice day, take a look in my channel, i have some guitars song.
Yamashiro Ronaldo I will check out your channel and subscribe. It’s always nice to share guitar information 👍🏻
Thanks for vid ,been waiting on a decent demo of the envoy ,picked mine up for $45 euro ,loved my bandit was just to big for my needs ,cheers I have subscribed to your channel
Hi Patrick! Thank you for your kind comment and your subscription to my channel. I really like the Envoy and the Bandit. They are such a great bargain on the used market. I haven’t taken mine to rehearsal yet because I just got it a few weeks ago. I intend to though because I think it’ll be loud enough. Have you used yours with a drummer? Cheers and thanks again!!
Tomorrow afternoon I'll get a Envoy teal stripe. Only used for a few hours, near new. For extra loud playing I use my Laney LV200 with a H+H 12" speaker. This amp is loud enough for everything.
Nice! Since you got the amp yesterday how are you liking it?
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar I like it very well, some pots are scratching, I'll use some spray to fix it. The Sound is very nice in clean channel, die overdrive channel gives some nice solid rock tones. I'm impressed.
great playing , hey what is it about guitarists and musicians in general ? . I have found myself in a situation that I now have a teal stripe Bandit , a little 15 watt Blazer ( with reverb tank !) a valve king 50 and as of today an Envoy transtube . Why ? cos nothing is as much value as a Peavey....
Thanks David. Yeah these Peaveys are so much fun! My very first amp was a Peavey.
Cheers!!
Sounds good! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Dan! Have a great day!!
I own two redsteipe bandits and run them with exstension cabs. They cannot be beat for solid state amps. The rear effect loop can get dirty. but noyhing contact cleaner or patch cable cant cure. My buddy had a transfex pro 212 that blew my eardrum out once!! Always loved peavy amps. I know its an old vid but i subed anyways.
They are great amps. Thanks for the sub.
Lovely playing! Do you think it's loud enough to gig into small and medium-sized halls and pubs? I play classic rock and usually use my fender champion 100 2x12 with volume around 3/4 for rhythmic crunch tone but I'm looking for an amp i could use at home also (the champion is way too loud)
Thank you Edoardo. Any amp can be mic’d. If it were me I would probably step up the studio pro which has a 12” speaker and more wattage. I have taken this amp to practice and it was ok but that was just a trio and I was the only guitar.
I have a red stripe envoy. My impressions are the Voxish midrange hump in the thing along with the typical Peavey high pitched treble. You can turn this way up and it hangs together pretty darn clean. I don't hear the sustain of a true tube amp. The lead channel is not for me and is rather noisy. Besides, I have no way to change from one channel to another with a pedal, at least on the red stripe. Dead reliable.
03/17/2023: I am interested in the Peavey studio-pro red stripe amp (with logo). They sell for $150.00 dollars. I have two questions: (1) How much does it weigh in pounds? (2) When not playing guitar, do all Peavey amps have a loud humming and buzzing sound in the gain channel?
I don’t have a studio Pro so I couldn’t tell you the weight. I sold my bandit but kept the envoy as a practice amp for inside my house. I don’t notice any buzzing from it.
Great chops. I have the blue stripe version I paid 55 dollars for(30+25 shipping) about a year ago in like new condition.Sounds good, the red stripe sounds better to me.Any ideas on what kind of speaker I should change to?
Hi Greg! Thanks for your nice comment. Honestly I've never really felt the desire to even change the speaker. I generally keep this little amp in the house and tend to use it there. For me it works just fine as it is. I'm not very well versed in speakers so I don't feel I could be of much help there. I'd hate to steer you wrong. If you do find something and swap out let me know what you chose and how it worked out. Cheers!!
that strat sounds awesome ...what strings are those (gauge & brand) ...
Hey, thanks for the kind words. It’s been a long time. To be honest I’m not sure. I flip flop gauges. These were probably just 9’s. Likely either D’Addario NYXL or Elixor. Sorry. I can’t remember.
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar Hey great...Thnx anyways
I have one of these amps, would like to have another
Love Peavey amps, have teal Bandit and teal Studio Chorus, I wanna get one of these.
Amazing bang for the buck! I ha ent tried the teal ones. I should do that. Cheers.
Lovely groove and tune - what is it ? thnx . Nice review .
Thank you Michael!! The tune is original. When I do demos I like to try to use a a piece of music whenever possible. It's always nice to hear a device used in context. Thanks again for the nice comment!! Cheers!
I've tried and tried but I can figure out what amp is under the 110. I have a peavey transformer 112 and it's cool in its own way but it hates pedals and I've been told most emulator amp are. So I want a amp to run my pedals through that has a head phone jack.
Hey. In my. In my video the amp under the 110 is a lPeavy Bandit 112. It loves pedals.
Excellent playing, I'm thinking about buying a SS amp, I saw a lot of videos about the bandit and the studio pro, but I think they may be to loud for home playing.
I still can't decide, the fender champion 40, is still a possibility.
Thanks by the video.
I subscribed your channel.
Champion's treble control has a sharp mid-treble sound. No sparkle at all and limited clean volume. I'd go with the Peavey.
You also fell into the Peavey/Traynor trap
Cheap, good and reliable old gear
Yes sir!
I have used this for 20 years. I can't say enough good things about this, as you know. Especially clean tones. Even volume 6 is the limit in my room🤣
Yeah I really like mine. I doubt I would ever part with it.
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar
I will never release.👍
Great minds ;). 🍻
That sounds sooo nice. Lovely playing. I have one of the final versions arriving tomorrow (They have been discontinued, Peavey are being coy about a replacement. Does this mean the Bandit is going to follow? Surely not.) Used, cost less than £80. Looks like I've done the right thing. I'm gigging a Marshall DSL 20, it'll be interesting to compare. Thanks!
Thank Lee! I quite like my Peavey amps:)
Hello, I'm torn between Peavey Envoy 110 and the Marshall MG30. I could get them for about the same price second hand. What do yall prefer more? Peavey or marshall?
Hey Elly. I’m not at all familiar with the Marshal so I can’t comment. The Peavey can get a pretty wide range of tones. From sparkling clean to high modern gain. I bought mine used for a whopping 60 dollars! You could try to find a used one and try it. If it’s not your cup of tea I’m sure you could find a buyer.
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar Thanks! Actually Ive been watching reviews and demos of the peavey vypyr x1, seems like a great amp for me!
Yeah this amp I’m using here is pretty old honestly. There’s so much good stuff out there these days. Let me know what you decide to get and what your thoughts are on it when you do. Cheers!
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar hello! I bought the fender champion 50xl. Its a hell of an amp!
Awesome! There are so many good options these days. Super happy for you my friend! Play on!!!
Has a kind of vibe of "downtown sundown " by thin lizzy ...... very nice .
I have a Peavey envoy 110 Silverstripe. And a Bandit 112 teal stripe with a stock scorpion. I couldn't help but notice both your Peaveys are the block letter. Both mine was Peavey in the sum what cursive more pointy logo. Is there a particular reason why. I know mine say made and designed in USA. I was told with it saying made and designed it is made in USA. I was told if it said just designed in USA it would have been made in China. I don't know thou.
Im actually about tonpick up that same amp tomorrow after work . Im more into metalnlike black sabbath and kiss and judas priest and on up to cannibal corpse . I got a Jackson dinky guitar with the satin black finish and a floyd rose . But I gotta get the right preamp pedal and I wanna get a zakk Wylde wah pedal andbI got a MXR super badass distortion pedal and a full bore metal distortion pedal and I think thats a perfect setup for my bedroom . I was trying to get up with this dude about buying his marshall code 50 amp but he's being a a little bitch and not responding back to me so im gonna grab up the peavy envoy from this dide that really needs rhe money and the amp looks great and sounds pretty good for 100 dollars and I cant complain at all about that sonim gonna ride with that because I know peavy is very legit with their amps .
Great sounding a little amp, and playing! Do tell about the fender please!
Hi Alex! Thank you! That's my 77 hardtail Strat. There's a video on my channel where I talk about the guitar in depth. It was given to me by a dear friend. It was the body which had been stripped of finish and the neck only. I had to rebuild the guitar. I think that's why I love it so much. It has a lot of my own work into it.
Lucas Crossley Guitar great story on that one!!! I love the guitar!! Fender doesn’t really make anything like that now :(
@@alexwalker5645 Hi Alex they actually do make a few 70's models......shop.fender.com/en/intl/electric-guitars/stratocaster/vintera-70s-stratocaster/0149842328.html
Your review inspired me to pick up a silver stripe Peavey Envoy. Great little amp and weighs a whole lot less than my Bandit 112S. Thinking of swapping out the Blue Marvel speaker for something that gives a little better low end.
That’s awesome Tom. Thanks for taking time to comment. I leave my envoy in the house and anytime I feel like practicing I use it. I love it. For the money it’s hard to imagine what could be better. Let me know what speaker you choose. Cheers!!
Tom, I dropped an Eminence Li'l Buddy 10 inch speaker in my Red Stripe Envoy and it was a HUGE WIN!!!! Makes the 10 come across so much warmer and gives it a more robust character. This has become my main amp. I carry a Sennheiser E 609 mic with me and anytime we play somewhere big, I mic up. In small venues, the amp is enuff all on it's own.
Hmm. More warmth sounds intriguing. How does it compare to the Jensen Mod 10? I put a Jensen Mod 8 in a Peavey Rage 158 and it added a significant amount of warmth.
@@tomhaefner5213 I have never used the Jensen so I cannot offer knowledgeable info.
Awesome dude! Would love to hear it. Can you post a vid?
The bass guitar is so loud in your demo you can barely hear the guitar but once you get into those lead licks that's pretty sweet 😁
Thanks. Sorry for the loud bass ;)
RUclips recently changed the way they monetize my content. My channel now needs 1,000 subscribers. It would be awesome if you could show your support by watching my videos and subscribing to my channel if you haven't already done so. Monetizing my videos allows me to invest back into the channel so that I can keep creating content like this. This small gesture from you would be a huge help for me. Thank you so much for your support!
These amps aren't cheap anymore. $150+ in early 2022.
Nothing is cheap anymore my friend. Crazy times. Be well!
Yeah I find I crave these Peavey amps. I have a big solid state 15 incher beast the Peavey tko 75. It's a beast. sounds great for bass and 6 string too. it's sweeeeeeeeeeeet. yeah. MTW West LA CA USA 90230
Nice!!! 👍
AntonStratocaster thank you very much! Do you also have this amp?
Nice hardtail!!
Thank you
@@LucasCrossleyGuitar I have a black 76 a rare lightweight one sounds amazing
Nice. Yeah mines a boat anchor lol. Quite heavy. I still like it though :)
can we plug and play an MP3 track on it to play along ?
Good question. There isn't a dedicated LINE IN but I think if you used a pedal board you could use an 1/8 jack with a 1/8 to 1/4 and plug that into whatever input you're not using. The thing is that the input signal would be affected by whatever channel you are using. So if you ran clean and got your dirt and reverb from your pedal board that might work. Haven't tried it though. I just use a stereo or more often my PC speakers streaming backing tracks. assets.peavey.com/literature/manuals/80304681.pdf There's a link to the manual for you to check further.
thank you for your fast reply it helps me a lot
@@akinathor5303 You are very welcome! Have a great day!!!
Demo begins at 4:11
I should have pointed that out. Sorry Craig.
Is that Mr. Robert Keeley?
Mine makes noise when the reverb is on. Got any ideas how to overcome that?
Sorry buddy I've tinkered with amps a little but I'm no repairman. You could post a video of what it's doing. There's lots of folks online and maybe someone could identify the issue.
My Envoy does the same, but stays manageable if I keep reverb at around 4. Still, the noise has tempted me to just get a reverb pedal to replace it.
My envoy did the same thing. I switched the rca inputs and flipped the tank so the rca inputs faced the back side. Now the reverb is usable
It might just need the tank jacks and RCA cables cleaned. You could probably just spray some contact cleaner on the plugs and work them in and out of the jacks a few times. Might do the trick.
Yeah that’s likely it.
Yo tengo uno lo compre por 1200 lempiras :D
Too much talk
Not enough typing. 😜
What did you demonstrate or prove? Just about nothing, just that you can play on this amp or any amp...disappointing video.
what did you demonstrate? you demonstrated just that you are an asshole who has no talent,a patchy neck beard
and you live at home with grandma in a trailer and you are still a virgin.you are really brilliant(sarcasm)
Patrick, you should seriouly think about being a good person instead of being an insulting piece of shit because life is very short & full of surprises.. karma is as real as it gets you'll see.. but God love ya anyway fool lol..
