  • I purchased this 1959 M & M Futura Cadillac hearse in 1987 from a small funeral home in Hodgenville, Kentucky called Brownfield Funeral Home. I have owned it ever since. After I got it I drove it for a short while but due to having several other vehicles the insurance was killing me so I drove it to a spot on my land where it sat for the next 18 years! I'd always hoped to restore it, but I've finally reconciled myself to the fact that I'm not going to do it...SO I am now passing this very rare car on to someone who will actually do the work!
This car is in original complete condition. Nothing has been added nor taken away. Replacing the interior will be fairly easy since it is all still there (although in BAD condition). You will be able to see the original fabrics that were used (even the curtains!) and use the old pieces for the patterns.
The floor boards in the front are pretty much gone, but the body is sound.
The 4 original hubcaps ARE THERE although not shown in the photographs or video. All doors and the hood open and close easily. All electric parts worked when the car was parked, and the breather was in place the entire time. (By the way, the car was not manufactured with a/c. There is no place in the firewall for an air conditioning system.)
There is minor sheet metal rust and in some spots is does go through, mainly at the bottoms of some of the doors and the driver compartment.
ALL hinges are tight and in good shape.
Engine is stuck but should run with a little work as it ran very well when parked. The car rolls very well which we discovered when we needed to move it down a steep hill a couple of weeks ago!!
Have papers. Have keys. Horn ring is in one piece; not broken.
There is a small crack in the windshield and 2 of the flat glasses have large cracks. (NOTE: 59 Limo also available which is ready for restoration OR if using for parts, has a good windshield. The limo engine was rebuilt back in the day and also ran well when parked.)

It was sold to a guy from Germany and this is now the very first Ecto-1 over here! It looks great but if you look closer it sure needs some more work / restoration. I have seen it at many shows and conventions around here and at the moment it is also up for sale for around 99.000 Euros. I have bin following it for some time and it is not an easy sell. Main reason being, that you won't get it street legal over here thanks to the blue lights aso. Similar to building a Back to the Future DeLorean... also not street legal thanks to the add ons. So this is mostly a trailer queen with blue lights on via shows or if driven on privat property. ... When I saw this video and on sale via eBay I wished I had the money to buy it as an Ecto and was really surprised when I saw news about guys building an Ecto1 over here ans recognizing the car from eBay! It was really crazy then seeing it up close. As if somebody else made your dream come true. ... Sadly I don't have that kinda money to buy it now : ))) ... Greetings from Germany!

Oh, I see. Well if I were fortunate to come across a 1959 cadillac M&M futura hearse in a junkyard in good condition on the outside and inside a little rusted some that could be a fixer-upper, I would definitely buy it and have it made to look exactly like the Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters down to the last detail.

There's a possibility, looking at the combination interior, some parts might be able to be interchanged between various years. It looks similar to the floor plan I had in my 64 Classic Duplex combination, right down to the pattern of the lineoleum.

my neighbors had the busy local funeral home for many years, and they had a Cadillac Ambulance that looked like this with all the windows, usually the hearses had a landau top on the back, but there are all kinds and my neighbor wife told me in the 1940's the had a combo hearse/ ambulance that they used

    • @ThinkerOnTheBus
      @ThinkerOnTheBus 3 года назад +1

Not as popular, but yes, combos did exist. For quite a few years, I owned a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville Superior Hearse/Ambulance combo. I was forced to sell it when about two weeks before my girlfriend and I were moving across country, my girlfriend discovered that our apartment lease was up a month earlier than what she had originally stated. I could not find a reasonably priced transport service, although I tried. I know there are special transporter for such vehicles, but I was trying every place I could find (pre-internet days), and most vehicle transporters wanted to charge me for double because the length of the vehicle would have overlapped into a second spot. I sold it to a co-worker for practically nothing. The day before we would leave and hit the highway, I had a hearse pull up at work, and the driver told informed me he specialized in coach vehicles. He would find them, purchase them, refurbish them, and then sell them. I told him about my recent bad luck with losing one of mine, and of course he tells me that it was too bad he didn't bump into me earlier because he could have hooked me up with a couple of different transporters who do a decent job at a decent price which they used regularly. I could not believe the timing of everything!!!

@@ThinkerOnTheBus my neighbors ambulance was red and white.
This is a hearse though, even with the windows, they had drapes originally on the windows. Hopefully this guy can save this one, 59 Cadillac's deserve to be saved even ambulances and hearse's

A god damn shame indeed! However, at least such a beautiful vehicle wasn't violating by some idiot converting it into another Ectomobile, or some monster truck all the while thinking that it is going to be cool and bitchin'!!!

So ceded why the doors weighed 400# a piece. Bulletproof! Would explain 5387gross weight for 4 door limo. 24footer. Wished I STILL HAD it!

I am aware that 1959 Cadillac M&M Futura hearses aren't easy to come by nowadays, but if I were fortunate to come across one in a junkyard in good shape and condition on the outside and inside a little rusted some that could be a fixer-upper, I would definitely buy it to convert it into my my very own replica of the Ecto-1 as seen of the 1984 film "Ghostbusters" down to the last detail and if I had metal-cutting and welding skills, I would replace the rusted metals, floorboards, seats, steering wheel, windows, engine, alternator, radiator, belts, lights, Etc. and replace the old radio with a CD player and audio surround sound speakers to play the Ghostbusters soundtrack and I would use the Blitzway Ecto-1 and the Ectomobile Owner's Workshop Manual to have something to go by...
    ( news.toyark.com/2017/11/20/blitzway-ghostbusters-ecto-1-full-details-278633 )
And I would use this production-made door emblem for my replica...
And I would keep my replica in a 10x30 size storage unit with a big clear plastic tarp over it to save for a car show and a Halloween display.
