Hmmmmm .... I'm not convinced about these changes. Flattening the deck, changing the face-down ratio of cards, and changing the end game effect of corruption removes the push-your-luck tension in the game - really seems to remove excitement. At the heart of the original is navigating the corrupt world of getting things built. Even the resources needed to build something is clearly illustrated on the original player aids - and I don't get building a sphinx with two wood. Oh well. I'm happy with my original. Thank you for the overview.
Felt the same here. It's like the game lost all of it's teeth. The new one is nice for new gamers since it has an easier flow and all, but the thematic feel and tension is pretty much gone.
I totally disagree with some changes. Simplifying things that are already pretty simple to destroy much of the theme. What's the point of using 4 lapis lazuli or 4 woods to build an obelisk? It would be like saying that in TICKET2RIDE it is enough to have trains, without considering the color anymore. Much easier, but the game would lose its appeal.
Exactly , it's cleopatre for kids.
Looking forward to the new fancy components, but....will probably continue to play with the old rules.
Dan, I've been watching your videos for years and really enjoying them. This is the first time I've completely disagreed with you. We've found the original game to be a great gateway game that we could easily teach to new players. In fact, at an International Tabletop Day event a few years back we had a 5 player game with 3 new players, and got the game instruction plus game played in under an hour. We like the resource mix and the variables formulas for building things... it reminds me of Catan. We like the corrupted artisans and the 50/50 mix of upside down vs revealed cards. We enjoyed rolling the dice and being wary of having the most corruption at the end of the game. There is nothing about this game I would change... except for those gorgeous new components. I almost pledged it for that... but I got Ankh instead! Lol!
I disagree this time, but keep up the good work.
Well I'm glad you have the original!
I enjoy your reviews but find the background music annoying. The different camera angles were weird.
Nice review. I liked the different camera angles. Perhaps the music could have been slightly lower. I turned on all notifications so I stop missing your reviews!
Thanks!
Cool! So glad I backed this! Can't wait! Thanks Dan!
You're welcome!
These changes look great, I'll have to give it a few plays to see for sure.
What's your take on it, six months in?
@@SebastiaanBenders I got rid of it, toy factor off the charts game well too light for my current tastes. That said it's improved over the original IMO
AWESOME components + Awesome Gameplay = AWESOME GAME!
Thanks for the info on the game. I haven't played either but ended up not backing the kickstarter. Will see what the general reception is but potentially back on the radar.
I didnt really care for the different camera angles.
I'm not sure every game should be streamlined. It makes for blandness and sameness. There are lots of other games like this new edition and they are cheaper and easier to transport and set up.
Nice barefoot Cleopatra on the cover
Feels odd watching this and not seeing the only thing that made this game special... the board.
Once I get the production version I'll be showing it off for sure!
These changes are terrible. Literally removed everything I liked about the game that created tension and just left it as a souless husk propped up by toy pieces.
I honestly hate all these changes. ALL OF THEM.
Commercial !! the original is better. Simplify does not mean better. See the final: publicity for the publisher of the game in french : lucky duck games. 1 dislike more.
Have you played the new version? How do you know which is better? I did not get my copy from Lucky Duck Games, but Mojito Studios. Opinions are never given on any video where it was paid for (like Kickstrater previews, or Rules Schools) Those videos have a clear message that it is a paid promotion and opinions are never offered. This is NOT one of those.
