You know, watching this video made me realise something. Prior to the game's release, I was one of those guys who said that this game should have been more innovative, I wanted a game like Rush or Advance that expanded upon Sonic's core gameplay, but now I'm actually glad they didn't do that because Sonic team and Konami are still not fully ready to pull that off. I've come to respect the direction that Superstars is going for basically. And you know it's kinda sad that they're still struggling to make that people can consistently enjoy, but I feel after the many flaws of Superstars and Final Horizon update 3, I think they have a fairly clear line on what not do, but also what they can improve. I have a bit of faith that the next game will be pretty good, not just ok. But once again, we have to wait.
@ohosmandivine6770 this game probably had more time than frontiers and they could keep it hidden and polish it for as long as they wanted to but this isn't a first step for classic Sonic if it a fully 3d game for classic Sonic not gatekeeping the 3d games to modern then that would have been a better move than this
@ohosmandivine6770 but comparing to Mario which had all the time in the world to finish the game same with this team that made superstars I see a big gap in development
Personally i had no issues with the bosses being long but i do agree with your take that they should let the bosses have their own act. It would help the game in terms of replayability.
Fun Fact: If you bought the digital deluxe edition with the Mecha Sonic skin, the robot that helps eggman in cyber station becomes Mecha Sonic. Also btw there is an electrical elemental shield that attracts rings in some stages.
The magnet is not an elemental shield. If you're hit while using it, you lose the magnet and your rings. You can even wear both the shield and the magnet at the same time. And you also doesn't gain elemental invulnerability like the elemental shields of Sonic 3, Knuckles and Mania. It's just a magnet and nothing more.
At least Mania understood that it's ok for Sonic to be Sonic, and celebrated everything that made it so. I too am beginning to wonder if I'm just too old for this crap.
It's not that at all. Sega had people who can't seem to stop making mistakes that keeps their games from growing. Even after they stopped doing game systems for similar reasons, someone keeps holding their games back. And they either need to learn or they need to go.
I wasn't expecting Sonic superstars to be "peak" and I didn't need it to be, what I needed it to be was a great game that can push the classic series into a new age, and it's done just that, this game is very much the Sonic equivalent of something like donkey Kong country returns or metroid Samus returns,a great game that needs some small things ironed out. The team at Arzest have proved to me that they have what it takes to continue the classic legacy and I am looking forward to seeing a sequel/successor to what is now one of my favourite Sonic games.
I agree with what you said. I've been with this franchise since 1992 and while sure, there are some aspects in Superstars that I didn't like, it's a VERY good game. I look at Superstars and Frontiers in a very similar way, that they are both games that clearly show that Sega has stepped their game up with Sonic and treat their flagship franchise with the respect and ambition that it deserves.
I feel like Arzest catches too much flak for what is likely incredibly mediocre direction from the people who hire them to make the games they have. Yoshi's New Island is boring and Balan is bad, but Nintendo hadn't done better with Yoshi in decades and tbh I don't think Balan would have ended up well if they did get a better dev team for it with how many bad ideas it tries to execute.
@@poppyfrancis7338 Arzest can't be fully blamed for the disaster that was Balan. They were rushed to meet an unrealistic deadline and then there are all the rumors about Yuji Naka being a complete prick to work with, causing a horrible work environment. I don't know, this is what I've read.
I trust Arzest more with classic Sonic then I do Sonic Team after Sonic Forces and Sonic Frontiers. And I really hope Sonic Team stops doing 2D in Sonic's 3D games cause going 2D means having to perfect the physics from the classics which doesn't mesh well in 3D, plus 3D Sonic in 2D normally controls bad in these games and I hope Sonic Team can just focus on polishing his 3D controls and not accommodate for 2D parts don't don't need to be there. Example: Chaos Island in Frontiers
Fun fact, the Fang boss fight scripted segment in Golden Capitol is about 40 seconds of autoscrolling goodness! You need to go through this segment atleast two (maybe three if im misremembering), so thats atleast a minute and 20 seconds of doing absolutely nothing!
The first half of Sonic Superstars they did a good job with the music and level design but on the second half it seem to just fall apart. The physics were nearly as good as Sonic Mania but the bosses were way too hard. Sonic Superstars has a lot of good and bad but it is a lot of fun to play.
In my opinion, the bosses aren't exactly hard, they are just way too slow and have too much health. Another problem is that you can't hit them more than once in a sequence. It becomes boring very fast.
Sonic superstars had the potential to be the best classic sonic game, but sadly it feels like it takes a constant step forward and a constant 5 steps back, overall leading to a disappointing result.
i feel the enemies and obstacle placement can get really cheap leading many unfair deaths ,also the there will be time where the camera will we working against ( you cant see whats above below or in front of you ) so there are time were your hit by a projectile you cant see coming , many leaps of faith. OR CATS YOU CANT SEE OR AVOID.
It's like every time a Sonic game isn't the second coming of Christ, Christmas, and one's own birthday all on one day, people whip out the old "step in the right direction" and act as if a game simply being good isn't good enough. It's getting really old.
yup. i think it needed to implement a dynamic camera that zooms and pans depending on the situation, like the one in freedom planet 2 and other modern 2D and 3D platformers. i get why it wouldn't work in games like mania, where the pixel art would break if zoomed in and out like that, but in sonic 4 and superstars it really should've been in. especially because this is a sonic game, where the player moves so fast. at least in coop mode the camera does do that a bit when handling multiple players
I honestly completely (and respectfully) disagree. I kinda like that the game doesn't mess with camera zoom in and out too much as that is something i hate from modern 2d platform-action games.
I'm so tired of having to say "but" after every time a new sonic game comes out. It's always "it's good, *but*" I wish sega would just make a consistently good game that doesn't feel cheaply made
I really enjoyed Sonic Superstars. Like Frontiers, it's not perfect (the music direction was confusionary with its costant changes, sorry) but it's a good step to the right direction for the 2D games. Both sides now need better care and better development time to really reach peak 😊
@@CartoonLowStudiosMario isn't taking ''steps'' in the right direction. Each time a Mario games releases, it's a damn hit and a fresh take on the game. Sonic... Not so much
Dude really said "If you don't like the game, just convince yourself otherwise" I also find it very funny that he still thinks parrying during the parry trial is "cheesing" like dude that's the entire point
I mean I very lightly gaslit myself. I'm not exactly calling the game great. I just found more enjoyment when I stopped trying to compare it to the other Classics.
I enjoyed this game mainly because of the challenge and how it tries to have its own identity visually but many of your thoughts aligned with my own it definitely has its faults but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Great video as always!
How I would fix superstars is making an arcade or challenge mode, where its no save and the opening cutscenes of a boss are removed s of the bosses are lowered to genesis levels. Maybe we get mighty and ray in an encore update, and more vibrant level palettes
This will be cool, they did decrease the timing for the parry in Frontiers so less frames per hit to match Genesis in an arcade mode would be awesome. Love these bosses but God do they take long to beat 😓, not only less frames but relegate them to stay in the foreground will also be nice
I always loved how they handled the bosses in sonic cd, even though some of them were kinda mid. (I'm reffering to the bosses for Palmtree Panic, Collision Chaos and Metallic Madness)
@@derple8524They even had lore planned with the final boss of this game, and Sega left it out. Which surprised Ian Flynn himself who contributed to the lore. Sega cannot seem to stop trying to one-up Mario with release dates!
Personally, I think another fix for the bosses would be for them to be the exact same. However, they should just cut down the invincibility frames. I want to go to that final Fang fight for an example. During that fight, there is an attack where you need to bounce enemies back to hit the mech. Normally, you can only send 1 enemy back in time. However, at one point, I got 3 sent back using the avatar ability, but only 1 counted because he was invincible for so long. That was bullshit and dragged the fight out so much. If they let you hit the bosses more, even if it was maxed out at 2 hits before the invincibility kicked in, that would make them so much better, hell probably even the best bosses in any classic sonic game. They would be half as long with skill, but at the same time, you couldn't just bum rush them.
Or they can give them less hit points. That's what drags them out imo. It's like they wanted to make a more traditional platformer boss, like Mario or DK Country since the bosses would be broken with multiplayer. But the bosses are nowhere near as long as they typically take 3 hits to finish. Superstars bosses still take 6-8 hits.
Cutting the invincibility frame by a lot will change this game drastically. Fixing the bugs and glitches And having Tee lopes and the other composers who worked on this fix the rest of the OST's Jun had will be Amazing and will honestly bring the game up to 8/10 for me
Right, the backgrounds in Superstars are either decent but bland or literally look like the Master System games backgrounds but atleast those have an excuse since they were on the master system. Plus I still think those backgrounds are more interesting imo.
You pretty much summed up my feelings on the game. A decent step forward, but DEFINITELY doesn't replace Mania and 3 and Knuckles as my favorite 2D Sonic games. I feel like Superstars had too many cooks in the kitchen. To me it's an improved version of Sonic 4.
Superstars is not top tier. However its a really good game i think. I'd give it a 8.5/10. I love thats its NEW. That is exiciting. All new zones, Trip is a great new character. The physcics are actually correct. And the level design is top notch. I've played through it 6 times and am still finding new routes to take. All that is top tier. The things weighing it down are the goddamn bosses. Holy shit the fucking bosses. And i like them theyre fun. But the go on for minutes. ALL of them. The Golden Capital Fang fight and final boss battles are an absolute chore to defeat. Even the bosses and mini bosses from regular zones just go on for minutes. Trips story is also way too cheap. I know its the hard mode but basically it turns every level into Metropolis zone and you NEED all the chaos powers to progress. Which i wish i had known bc i had to go back into the main game to get them so i could progress in Trip's story. A pixel art style i think wouldve been better. The levels look nice. Golden Capital/Speed Jungle/Sky Temple/Cyber Station are highlights, but others look kinda boring like Lagoon City. All the gimmicks i think are new and fresh and when talking Top tier we're talking like 10/10's Sonic 2/3k/Mania shit. This game is not that. Underwhelming i would say no. Its a very good game Sonic Team got a lot right and again, the physics and level design are actually good which is the most important thing. Its a solid game that fits perfectly into the good tier of sonic games. So saing its not peak Sonic is correct but its not a bad thing. Peak is the top of the top for franchises. Not every game can be Peak Sonic. I wish it was but it's certainly in the firm A tier for me easily. This is a really fun and great game. Golden Capital being my favorite zone. And this game still felt like a Sonic game to me. Gimmicks largely were innovative and didnt overstay their welcome
I like the game, But Trip's Final boss was hell. And if that weren't bad enough, If you quit out of the game During the boss fight, You have to go through the levels b all over again, especially on the 2nd act of Egg Fortress. I wish they would have Checkpoints where you could select the boss that you're fighting without having to go through the levels all over again.
Sonic Superstars is a great Sonic Game but not the best Sonic Game. I give Sonic Superstars a 8/10. Trips Story is pretty cool. The secret Final Boss Fight I don’t like. Sonic Superstars was a challenge Sonic Game for me. The story in Sonic Superstars is pretty interesting and I like the story in Sonic Superstars. Great video Matt)
Honestly my biggest disappointment was some of the music in Superstars. At this point I kinda hope they stop trying to make it sound kind of like a genesis/retro music track and just use normal/modern instruments unless they actually find a way to make it sound good
Apparently Tee lopes fixed some of Jun's music like the first Bridge Island act 1 so if he got his hand on the rest of the ost Jun had this would be boost the score for me, Music in Sonic games means everything to me, if they can fix that I would be very happy, Speed Jungle act one is still my favorite in the entire franchise so you know what Tee is doing
I dont have many issues with the game, it all seems fine to me (i have played and beaten all the classic games so there isnt a massive bias here), the only boss that actually drags on is the fang fight in golden capital (havnt beaten trips story, so we will see if that opinion changes) the characters feel great to control, but sonic seems to accelerate slower than I remember which isnt even that big of an issue, while i do dispise press factory, its not terrible once you have the yellow emeralds time power. (I play on switch and have very few issues) the only thing thats wierd is the textures on some things like the giant press in press factory, the floor in bridge island when the eggman fights cutscene plays and it zooms in to the cast. Again, all these texture oddities are probably just the switch and its limits. Overall id say this is a solid 8/10 sonic game, not as good as mania was, but not as obnoxious as sonic CD’s attempt at exploration in whacky workbench. (I dont like sonic CD if u couldnt tell)
I feel like this should have been the first classic sonic game to introduce a ranking system of some sorts. Seeing as how the score is meaningless since its not a continuous thought the adventure (like in 1-M) there isn't a point to trying to collect as many rings as you can ( this game just throws them at you) while also trying to find the quickest and smoothest way to the goal. If they were to add a ranking system at the end of each act then it would incentivize going out of you way to collect this game's many rings. As for multi player, it would be fun if on top of the ranking at the end of the stage they also calculated each players individual points/rings and idk give them a crown or something like mario 3d world. That would add a bit more of a competitive element to the co-op experience
Well, I fully understand about your concerns on Sonic Superstars . I really seemed like it, but I haven't wanted it. I haven't purchased it just yet. Cause I just don't like the price and everything for nowadays. Because the game is now $60 so I like about Sonic Superstars Is got to be 2.5 Grapfics
I give Superstars a 8/10. It's good but can be better. The ost has its ups and downs I agree, the game is not ugly but sometimes looks kinda off, the bosses take too long but an easy fix is making them take less hits, I love the level design tho, people are complaining about it but I like to think of it as a mix of Sonic 1 and CD (which I like more than Sonic 2 level design, pls don't kill me, it's just a personal preference), and the game is actually challenging considering most Sonic games are easy for a skilled player. I don't think they should get rid of the 2.5d style, I actually want Sega to bring the Mania team back for a sequel tbh
I just got done playing the game and my god was Fang’s Final Boss, the most stressful time I had with a Sonic game and I thought nothing could had been worse than master king koco trial on hard from frontiers (Before the recent patch made it easier) but boy did Fang prove me wrong with his long dragged out boss with BS Instead kills and unescapable web traps. So Glad When it was him that went flying into the screen (even took a screenshot to save the moment)
Of you can explore and get a reward for 100 Rings! You collect medals that are scattered around the levels or earned every 100 rings. These allow you to purchase parts to customize your own prototype-robot. Sometimes you can even find a rare fruit, that grants you access to the fruit acts, which let you score even more medals! It might not be interesting for everyone, but I think that reward for exploration is far more interesting than a shield that is burning, instead of blue and only really helpful inside the level and nowhere else. At least the coins give you something long-term! On the other hand, the prototypes are only usable in the battle-mode - which itself is fine and fun for a few rounds, but gets boring rather quickly. Outside of that you can't use the prototypes for anything and THAT is something I hate. I wish we could play all the levels with Metal versions of the characters or just a randomly build robot. They could either use the character's power they are build after for the grey emerald power or the electric charging attack you see in that zapp battle mode when using a randomly built robot. These Robots had so much potential and were locked away to some multiplayer side mode, with no purpose otherwise... As for the second story half, just like Heroes, you do not have to play through the story multiple times in one sitting. As long as playing through the levels is fun, playing through them again ilwhen you feel like it is nothing bad. The final story is something to work towards and playing the game is the actual goal. Since the final bosses in Superstars are so dang hard, it might be even for the best, to let the player get better through Trip's story first, since they will have to bring out everything they have to achieve a victory. Especially newcomers NEED that practice for final bosses and I think the harder level design is perfect to practice your skills. And if you are already skilled enough, then you can easily skip the harder parts with Trip's overpowered abilities. Getting through the hard levels is very easy with her. Only the bosses are a big hindrance, since they are much more brutal at attacking, give less openings to beat them and have twice the life than in normal mode - which is the aspect I hate the most about them... All in all, it's a fun experience, especially with friends and it gives you more than enough ways to replay the game in different ways and through a ton of multiple paths.
Honestly, it's not bad but great either. What's holding it back is the inconsistency, especially the soundtrack. 50% is good, 50% is rather mid. Plus, very...weird...pacing. All-in-all, it's above average in my opinion. Though, it will never top Mania in terms of creativity, consistency, & music. That much I'll say.
matt idk wtf were you talking about when you made this video after playing this game i think its the best classic sonic game ever made i know allot of people would say that i know nothing about sonic and bs like that i played (a little bit of sonic 1 cause its annoying) fully played sonic mania sonic 2 and sonic 3 and this game is better than all of them im a person who doesnt enjoy classic sonic that much and i always get bored playing classic games (except for mania) and superstars is the only sonic game that made me care about classic sonic because its so much fun and im suprised that you said in this video that the levels are empty like bruh they are loaded with fun and the developers obviously put allot of love in this game and you can know it just by looking at the animations the visuals and the level design it has some flaws but they are small and i can overlook them and if you dont have the patience to fight a boss they literally added a skip button for bosses which is the shadow clone ability it can destroy any boss if its not obvious I LOVE THIS GAME AND ITS BETTER THAN SONIC 3 AND MANIA (if you disagree tell me why and be respectful because its just a video game who cares) + im really curious to know why people hate this game
I liked the game, I will be playing as all the characters per save so I will be very familiar with the game for sure and to justify that $60 price tag! I didn't like the music in this one (with a couple of exceptions but not too memorable to me!) Trip is a great addition (even if her levels in trips story are really bullshitty) and the bosses are good! Level design I noticed in the base game can feel samey and hopefully they fix that in future games! Great but could be way better!
Growing with the Genesis and playing Sonic on it. Sonic 2 being my favorite. That being said , I love this game and it passed my expectations personally. Sonic has come a long way in my opinion.
It’s the best Classic Sonic game for casuals that want a taste of the classic games but do not know how to tackle them (because the special stages can be hard and going back between zones isn’t a thing until 3 and Mania)
the thing i hated abt the fang boss was how boring the first phase was, it only had like two actual attacks and it took one or two minutes to beat which is so annoying
I think the mistake is not that Jun uses the sounds of Sonic 4, but that he insists on creating classic Sonic music, instead of creating Sonic music (Sonic Adventure is the best example I have of this, the songs fit so well with the little sonic with the big one, this is because he was not a modern sonic, he was simply sonic). Furthermore, it seems to me that Jun has always occupied those sounds, it's just that they are an accompaniment to a lot of live instruments.
Interesting video! I honestly think this game is quite overhated. It tries to be different and really experiments a lot (almost like it’s code name was Sonic 5 lol) I find the challenge quite great, it really just is based on skill and it can destroy you which just makes it peak fiction
Is there no way original designers, like from S3&Ks cant come back and design something? Everything in these newer games looks so…I dont know, automated. Youre right though, why do these modern games have to be so tame that a 3 year old needs to giggle at it. Im a big believer that we should just use the S3&K sprites again. Why not. We only saw them that one time, or lets keep everything 2D again. Look how good and expressive those cutscenes are! Wouldnt clash as much without a 2.5D game.
Sealing the dragon away in an egg. Isnt that so uncharacteristic? I know Trip does it, but still. Sonic was so aginst doing something simular to Chaos.
There is another reason to not explore, you keep the chaos emeralds between playthroughs, and you can just restart a level and revisit a giant ring. There's nothing to find other than maybe a shorter route.
Am I insane for liking the Press Factory Act 1 music and thinking it fits really well with, well, a factory? One thing I actually have some issues with is the controls cause the spin dash sucks, Knuckles feels weird, and they ruined Amy's hammer rush already.
I hate the bosses in this game A LOT. They are sluggish, boring and uninspiring. That's my major complaint for this game (although the level design for Press Factory, Frozen Base and Egg Fortress are also crap). And the Super Sonic fight is the most boring boss fight ever in a Sonic game. Super Sonic stages are supposed to be fast, epic, and make you feel powerful, but that fight is so freaking slow, boring and poorly designed that I'll probably never play it again in my life. This game is definitely a step in the right direction, but it's not even close to the classic games and Mania.
After getting really mad at the fang robot boss fight in Trip's story for it's instant death cork attack after getting stuck in a web I immediately went back to Mania. Although I'll just not touch Trip's story mode ever again since I miss playing as Amy and switching characters between levels
Its a step down from Mania for sure but i still prefer it over the more recent Sonic years over the past few years 10 years like Lost World, Boom, and Sonic Colors Ultimate. Honestly i see this as fair review. Most reviews I've seen of this game were bashing it for not being more like the recent Sonic games like Frontiers or the reviews had a completely lack of understanding on why people like 2D Sonic. Do i agree with it being underwhelming: not at all but i think it's a great game with a lot of momentum for future 2D games to improve upon.
Sonic Superstars is mid in my opinion; it's not bad at ALL, but it is overhyped for sure. I had fun with this one, but I just didn't love it to death like Frontiers. Superstars doesn't even give me any satisfying moments like Frontiers did. And that's honestly sad to see.
Superstars really let me down. The main selling point was the multiplayer, but it turns out its offline only and the multiplayer isn't very good anyway :( Watched many streamers play and they all said single player is the best way to experience it. Then...what was the point of advertising this as a multiplayer game then?? It just feels uninspired and comes off like a cynical cash-grab. 60 dollar asking price is a joke. I'm skipping this one.
i have so much to say but cant bc lazy so ill tldr it. this is definitely one of my top 3, but it was unpolished and buggy at times, and may is really broken but I'm ok with that bc its funni. it was obviously intended to appeal to original fans and new families and kids alike, and not only bc of the multiplayer, the music was up there near unleashed and colors standards, and thee level design is great in a very antimania way. its not like the other classic sonic games, and tbh I love that. for me at least this was one of the easiest sonic games other than generations which is nice bc my skill issue is massive. also for me it took like 40 hours just for a sonic playthrough, an army one, and a trips story one. including a lot of special stages. i did too many lmao. i really loved the bosses tbf. there were some exceptions, such as: sky temple, press factory (both actually.), golden capital (both, 1 was shit easy and 2 was bullshit), I didn't like how cyber station had 2 at once, but individually I did like thee fights. i also really loved thee special stages. AND I liked thee second half of the game. yes, that was a tldr. it would've been past the character limit otherwise. anyways, I'm probably gonna end up playing generations after this for some comparison.
I will not forgive you for talking shit about Press Factory Act 1's music. I love that grunginess. That said, you are right and most of the Sonic 4 style music doesn't hit and I would prefer more like some of Tee Lopes tracks or even Pinball Carnival Act 1.
''Its the first step in the right direction'' It is funny how we've been saying that since Sonic Generations in 2011 lmao

Yay 😐
Welp...
You sound like a madden fan.😂

I really like this game, it’s probably my third favorite behind 3 and Mania, or maybe 4th behind them and 2, which isn’t bad
It's like every time a Sonic game isn't the second coming of Christ, Christmas, and one's own birthday all on one day, people whip out the old "step in the right direction" and act as if a game simply being good isn't good enough. It's getting really old.

Great game. Idc I don’t need to be cool. It’s everything I wanted pretty much

Gens' 2.5D was better because it actually took near full advantage of the z axis. Also, Superstars' single player camera is way too zoomed in.
FOR REALLL, imagine the controls of Superstars with the visuals, design and camera of Gens sheeeesh
yup.
i think it needed to implement a dynamic camera that zooms and pans depending on the situation, like the one in freedom planet 2 and other modern 2D and 3D platformers.
i get why it wouldn't work in games like mania, where the pixel art would break if zoomed in and out like that, but in sonic 4 and superstars it really should've been in.
especially because this is a sonic game, where the player moves so fast.
at least in coop mode the camera does do that a bit when handling multiple players
They really need to add that camera zoom out feature from co-op I agree
I honestly completely (and respectfully) disagree. I kinda like that the game doesn't mess with camera zoom in and out too much as that is something i hate from modern 2d platform-action games.
Arzest has potential to become the next Dimps. Hopefully they’re not limited to just Classic Sonic

I wish sega would just make a consistently good game that doesn't feel cheaply made
I really enjoyed Sonic Superstars. Like Frontiers, it's not perfect (the music direction was confusionary with its costant changes, sorry) but it's a good step to the right direction for the 2D games.
Both sides now need better care and better development time to really reach peak 😊

@@CurlyChop I ran out of copium, no more new Sonic releases for me.
Man this game really needed more time in the oven
Not as much as Frontiers, but some more time would have done away with glitches and bugs, and maybe more features
@@derple8524They even had lore planned with the final boss of this game, and Sega left it out. Which surprised Ian Flynn himself who contributed to the lore. Sega cannot seem to stop trying to one-up Mario with release dates!

2:59 what do you mean? I just turned 20 and I see no problem with her super form except for the fact that she's a bit clunky in gameplay
I mean, if "everybody wanna be a superstar" competition's gotta be tough.
They should simply make the bosses faster and give them another obstacle.
Fixing the bugs and glitches And having Tee lopes and the other composers who worked on this fix the rest of the OST's Jun had will be Amazing and will honestly bring the game up to 8/10 for me
10:03 actually sounds kind of good to me, too short tho
Honestly from what i have seen of the backgrounds, Sonic Mania and Sonic CD still impress me more.
Right, the backgrounds in Superstars are either decent but bland or literally look like the Master System games backgrounds but atleast those have an excuse since they were on the master system. Plus I still think those backgrounds are more interesting imo.
@@wgbee1242 Even in sonic 1 2 3&k some of the zones had phenomenal spritework i feel are too overlooked sometimes.

"the game was bad but i slept on it..."
At least Naoto Oshima is back. If he could work with the Mania devs, perhaps that could create the best Classic Sonic game!
Hehe purple dragon
Sonic Superstars is on that weird mode where they can have easy and slower bosses or faster and harder bosses to reward people taking the fast path.
"jimmy. . I dont feel so good-"
"WHY IS THE MANIA SOUND IN THE GAME!?"
"That-- that's crazy! That's crazy!!.... Wha-- What the fu-!!!"
🤣🤣🤣
So it should be like Pizza tower, where you need to both go fast and collect as much as you can to get the bets ranks.
Yeah, pretty much
This, exactly! I feel like this is what a lot of modern platformers specifically 2D sonic is missing
I've found that the game is decent if you run through only the main campaign and do it with a complete save file, saving Super Sonic for the bosses.
5:52 silence
It’s not trying to be like Mania and that’s okay.
I would be a fool to pretend like I'm not having an absolute blast playing Superstars but there are flaws,
14:20 Nah, that's just what Arzest does with any franchise, any game.
8:32 - uhhhh hard disagree there, the backgrounds look so shitty, sometimes at the same level of the png's used in Sonic 4

12:10 so sonic cd(sonic cd’s level design is just taking the design philosophy of the fast levels of sonic one and applying it to every level)
The final boss is like NiGHTS Into Hedgehogs
matt idk wtf were you talking about when you made this video
after playing this game i think its the best classic sonic game ever made
i know allot of people would say that i know nothing about sonic and bs like that
i played (a little bit of sonic 1 cause its annoying) fully played sonic mania sonic 2 and sonic 3 and this game is better than all of them
im a person who doesnt enjoy classic sonic that much and i always get bored playing classic games (except for mania)
and superstars is the only sonic game that made me care about classic sonic because its so much fun
and im suprised that you said in this video that the levels are empty like bruh they are loaded with fun
and the developers obviously put allot of love in this game and you can know it just by looking at the animations the visuals and the level design
it has some flaws but they are small and i can overlook them
and if you dont have the patience to fight a boss they literally added a skip button for bosses which is the shadow clone ability it can destroy any boss
if its not obvious I LOVE THIS GAME AND ITS BETTER THAN SONIC 3 AND MANIA (if you disagree tell me why and be respectful because its just a video game who cares) + im really curious to know why people hate this game
i give this game a 10/10 SCREW MARIO WONDER
I liked the game, I will be playing as all the characters per save so I will be very familiar with the game for sure and to justify that $60 price tag! I didn't like the music in this one (with a couple of exceptions but not too memorable to me!) Trip is a great addition (even if her levels in trips story are really bullshitty) and the bosses are good! Level design I noticed in the base game can feel samey and hopefully they fix that in future games! Great but could be way better!
I'm never touching Trips Story mode ever again. If I can't access the final final boss so be it
Growing with the Genesis and playing Sonic on it.
Great video, but you have the exact same Voice as someone else on youtube lmao, now that i realized it, it just hurts my head trying to remember who.

4:52 vengeance? it's just a lover's quarrel
Or go with Generations 2.5D, that looked pretty good safe for the mid Classic Sonic model
You should do a video on Mario Wonder
Am I insane for liking the Press Factory Act 1 music and thinking it fits really well with, well, a factory?
One thing I actually have some issues with is the controls cause the spin dash sucks, Knuckles feels weird, and they ruined Amy's hammer rush already.
Kinda sucks that trip gets a hard mode but not sonic or knuckles like back in the day

Bro called Barney Sesame Street tho💀
I didn't watch Sesame Street when I was younger 💀
Its a step down from Mania for sure but i still prefer it over the more recent Sonic years over the past few years 10 years like Lost World, Boom, and Sonic Colors Ultimate. Honestly i see this as fair review. Most reviews I've seen of this game were bashing it for not being more like the recent Sonic games like Frontiers or the reviews had a completely lack of understanding on why people like 2D Sonic. Do i agree with it being underwhelming: not at all but i think it's a great game with a lot of momentum for future 2D games to improve upon.
Bro sonic rush special stages was top tier ‼️🫡
for some reason this game costs more than frontiers in the uk
I didn't know they changed Nacks name.
I've never felt satisfied by frontiers, it all feels the same
Update 3 on frontiers really gave me that feeling of what it's supposed to be I still think it's incomplete but superstars feels less satisfying
Wow you actually used the derivative of "middling" correctly unlike everyone else on the internet.

YOU MEAN LIKE *SONIC COLORS* ?
As an Unleashed Fan, disappointed, I was.
And Lost World
Superstars really let me down. The main selling point was the multiplayer, but it turns out its offline only and the multiplayer isn't very good anyway :(
Watched many streamers play and they all said single player is the best way to experience it.
AND I liked thee second half of the game. yes, that was a tldr. it would've been past the character limit otherwise. anyways, I'm probably gonna end up playing generations after this for some comparison.
so close but not so far but in the end it doesn't even matter
I will not forgive you for talking shit about Press Factory Act 1's music. I love that grunginess. That said, you are right and most of the Sonic 4 style music doesn't hit and I would prefer more like some of Tee Lopes tracks or even Pinball Carnival Act 1.
Sonic just said hi🤯🤯🤯
