Do not stay in inhalation for too long as it activates your sympathetic nervous system (fight and flight mechanism). Instead, focus on elongating the exhalation time. That activates your parasympathetic nervous system (feed, breed, rest, digest).
Parasympathetic is good for your health, healing, hair, immune system, sleep, longevity, eyes, wrinkles, sex etc.
Here's what I recommend as it has worked for me. Do this 10-20 minutes daily.
4 seconds in (deeply from belly)
    1 second hold
10 seconds out (very slowly until your belly caves in and no more air remains in your lungs)
Edit: Slowly try to increase your exhalation time to as long as possible. That will, then, mimick tortoise breathing. As we all know, the lifespan of a tortoise can reach upto 400years. There's a theory that suggests that it might be linked to how much they breathe. A tortoise breathes 3-4 times per minute. Contrast that to a human's 12-18 breaths/minute or a dog's 20-30 breaths/minutes. Human lifespan is 100years and most dog breeds don't live into their third decade.
My point is that you need to train your subconscious mind to take slow deep breaths even when you are not conscious of it. You do that by practicing the tortoise breathing where you exhale for as long as possible. Some advanced yoga practitioners or Chinese Qigong practitioners even manage to exhale so slowly, it lasts for a couple of minutes. Meaning they breathe once/per minute and thus keep the magical parasympathetic nervous system activated all the time. Contrast that to us so-called modern people who breathe in shallowly for a couple of seconds (keeping most of our lungs starved for oxygen) and then exhale so damn quickly as if it would cost us money otherwise (thus keeping most of Carbon Dioxide stuck in our body). Thus, our body stays in the stressful fight/flight mode all the time, fills our body with cortisol and all sorts of stress causing stuff. Yup, not good because when your body is stressed out, it does some crazy stuff like storing excess fat like a madman, making you crave sugar, steals protein from your hair and nails to reallocate them elsewhere. Redirects blood from your gut to your muscles so you can run faster and climb tree quickly. This messes up your digestion which in turn wrecks all your efforts of eating nutritious foods.
So, please do yourself a favor and practice slow-deep breathing with long exhalation daily. Also, if it works for you, don't forget to share it with your parents because they probably need it the most right now.
May you stay in parasympathetic mode all the time.
Let's save the sympathetic fight/flight mode for when we are being chased by a goddamn sabertooth tiger!

There's no one particular link that would work as reference for all the things I have mentioned in my comment above, as there's a much more elaborate research hidden behind it. However, I could give you the link to a video that explains the benefits of parasympathetic breathing. Once you figure out how this breathing method works toward healing your body, you can further explore from there the secrets of tortoise breathing which is a concept of yoga. Here it is:-

    GET THIS!
I continued the 4 7 8 breathing method after retiring for the day (11/23/24). After exhaling while lying on my back, I felt and heard a fluttering sound in my head. It was like inserting a playing card between the spokes of a bicycle when it is rotating to simulate the sound of a motor, d-d-d-d. The “fluttering” stops when I inhale again. Then it resumes on each exhale. This is the first time I heard this sound.

So here are the things you need to do if you suffer from panic and anxiety
( IT IS OK TO NOT BE OK)

“SLOW IS FAST” don’t rush give your self time and space to heal.
We need to take baby steps
    1. Before the bed close your eyes and sit without your slippers and ground your feet into the mother earth and sit with moving any muscles and just witness whatever that is coming…try not to move..after few mins you will notice that more and more stillness and tranquility…feel the sensations on the body but also notice the stillness within you.Anytime of the day - don’t schedule any particular time and get yourself becoming slave.
    2. Use Lavender essential oil
    3. Wear a health watch - Garmin/ Apple Watch / Fit Bit pro. Yes AI technology really helps in this difficult phase to sail your boat without adding further more panic. These watches provides heart rate. Normal heart rate ( resting )is anywhere between 80-100 . (DURING SLEEP HEART RATE CAN GO AS BELOW AS 60…kindly take an advice of your family physician) It may fluctuate if you are doing any activity SO DONT PANIC and DONT KEEP CHECKING IT ONLY WHEN AN INTENSE FLUTUACTUON IS FELT CHECK YOUR HEART RATE. And Breathe in the pattern pattern. 4 counts inhale - 7 counts hold the breathe - 8 counts exhale . Repeat this cycle atleast for 10-12 times. It will help you relax your nervous system.
Also Heart rate / blood pressure and anxiety is all correlated..if the heart rate goes up - follow the step one and calm yourself down.
Put on that smile..change the mood for the day. Put everything at stake. Risk everything. The next moment is anyway not certain so why bother. Get up shake. Dance . Wear those shoes get ready to shine my lovers..we will get through this phase together 💚🌻.

Well presented. It suits people who need the visual so they can learn to focus on the breathing and sensation. Later on, they are then, able to internalize the peaceful sensation derived from this practice. Thank you.

Dr Weil didn't invent this- it's an old yoga technique.

No, the yogis learned it from Dr. Weil thousands of years before he was born probably from one of his previous incarnations 😅

Repeat this out loud in front of a mirror twice a day while smiling and nodding your head up and down, because you are agreeing with your affirmations.
    1. Every decision I make is supported by my whole and inarguable experience.
    2. I affirm and encourage others, as I do myself.
    3. I alone hold the truth of who I am.
    4. I am allowed to ask for what I want and what I need.
    5. I am allowed to feel good.
    6. I am capable of balancing ease and effort in my life.
    7. I am complete as I am, others simply support me.
    8. I am content and free from pain.
    9. I am doing the work that works for me.
    10. I am good and getting better.
