    The All Blacks are South Africa's historic rivals.
    For a hundred years now the Rugby Rivalry Between South Africa and New Zealand has basically defined the Upper Echelons of the Sport, with the games between the Springboks and All Blacks being the most intense matches in Rugby.
    Unfortunately New Zealand has weakened over the past couple years since they basically forced South Africa and Argentina out of Super Rugby and into the European Tournaments, but the Rivalry still stands and is still going strong.
    Also, this game you just watched is the biggest defeat New Zealand has ever Suffered in their entire 100+ years of Playing Rugby Union, and with South Africa having inflicted such a heavy blow to New Zealand in the last Rugby World Cup warmup match a couple weeks ago, and with how we've been playing in the Pool stages thus far, it's looking like the Webb Ellis Trophee is coming back home to South Africa for a Fourth time (as well as 2nd time in a Row since we won the 2019 RWC as well).

    Hi, I like you're enthusiasm and eagerness to learn the our favourite sport in South Africa. You were asking about the coloured cards earlier in the video, yellow is the first card you receive for a transgression you commit on the rules (the player goes of the field for 15 minutes and the team is not allowed to replace him for the time period ) if he committed another transgression later in the game he receives a red card (in this case he is required to leave the field for the entire game and again his team is not allowed to replace him, therefore the team will not one player short for the whole game). But there is certain rules if the player breaks it he will be immediately given a red card and be sent of the field for example if a player gives a high tackle. Hopes it helps. Proud 🇿🇦

  • @costomada

    red card: sends players off
    yellow: sends them off temporarily
    tey: 5 points
    knock on: is when the ball falls forward onto the ground leading to a penalty
    you always pass back
    you caan kick the ball all times
    no tackles over the torso (depending on the situation

    3:09 - Not flags like in NFL, it's cards. Yellow is given for a foul, the player is then sent off the field for 10min. If the same player is given a 2nd yellow card, the card is upgraded to red and the player is send off permanently. Which means the AB are playing with 14 players instead of 15 for the rest of the game.

    As one of the very very few South Africans that watch the NFL and Rugby its very difficult to compare the two games. In American Football players are prone to explosive bursts of speed ans strength where as in Rugby players are almost carved out stone and conditioned for 80 minutes of heavy contact and non stop moving and runinng, mauling and rucking so their physical conditioning and fitness is much greater than NFL players. Like you could take an NFL player and have him play in an American football game and he would easily last the entire game where the same would never be possible switching, Placing an American football player in a Rugby match they would tire out way too quickly. There are certain positions from either side where you could see those players slotting nicely into the others game like many Locks in Rugby could potentially be solid Tight Ends or Wide Recievers could be great wings in rugby, running backs could make great very good flanks or centers and vice versa. However the problem here is it would far easier for an NFL olayer to transition into playing Rugby than for the Rugby player to transition into American football and this is because American football is undoubtedly more complex in terms of game play and set formations and running routes and all those good things that NFL p;ayers have been honing on and learning how to play with and understand as second nature since school. Rugby isnt nearly as complex

    Receiving a yellow card is known colloquially as being sent to the "sin bin" for 10min and thier team will have to play 14 players rather then 15 until thier 10min (no other substitute can be send on in thier place ). Players receiving a second yellow card in a game will also be shown a red card and will be sent-off and unable to take part in the remainder of the match(like its been shown in this game).

    yellow card means the player spends 10 min in the sin bin.
    if you get 2 yellow cards then it becomes a red card which means that he is out of the game.
    no replacement for the player

    Rugby and American football share many similarities due to the latter originating from the game of rugby. My explanation, I hope, will clear up some differences between the two codes of football.
    Here is a position comparison, but a little background:
    In rugby union, there are 15 players per side. In rugby LEAGUE, a different variant of rugby, there are 13 players. I will talk about rugby league later.
    =====================================================================================================================================================
    In union, the positions are number specific. 1-8 are the forwards, while 9-15 are the backs:
    1/3: The props are the rugby equivalent of guards and defensive tackles in American football. Stocky and strong, they provide stability up front in the scrum. On defense, they contain the inside, and are powerful run stoppers.
    2: The hooker is the rugby equivalent of the center/DT. In the scrum, he hooks the ball with his foot to feed it back to restart the play. On defense, he also acts as a meaty run stopper.
    4/5: The locks are the rugby equivalent of the offensive tackles and defensive ends. They provide additional push power in the second row of the scrum, and on defense are more mobile than props, but large enough to stop heavy run players.
    6/7: The flankers are the rugby equivalent of the tight ends and linebackers. On offense, they often support the back line by acting as a power player, and can stand behind backs to recover fumbled balls, or act as a powerful carrier to smash through the weaker defense on the edge. On defense, they are key tacklers, often the first to a tackle, and are often seen trying to steal the ball.
    One flanker can specialize as an strong side flanker, which is similar to the outside linebacker in that they need to use speed to break away from the scrum to either stop a run on the open side, or to chase down and tackle the flyhalf before they can make a play. The other flanker acts as an inside linebacker, and stops ay surprise runs or trick plays on the weakside, which can often result in big plays if the weakside flanker misses a tackle.
    8: The 8 man is the rugby equivalent of a fullback and middle linebacker. On offense, he either carries the ball in a pod, or can play in a more open manner depending on coaching philosophy. Either way, he is a strong runner, who is often able to break defensive lines. On defense, he acts as a third linebacker, and should be the second man out of the scrum to assist in tackling duties. He may also choose to pick up the ball at the base of the scrum, and run with it much like a fullback would take short power runs.
    NOTE: While all players in rugby hit hard, the flankers and 8 man in my opinion rank among the hardest hitters, which is probably because of their responsibilities on the field.
    9/10: A rugby team has 2 quarterbacks. The scrum half is 9, and acts as the passing aspect of the QB, while the flyhalf is 10, and acts as the decision making aspect of the QB. If the playcall is to move the ball to the backs, the scrum half will pass to the flyhalf, which then feeds the ball out wide. If the playcall is to the forwards, the scrum half passes to a pod. On defense, they are just behind the main defensive line.
    11/14: The wings are the rugby equivalent of wide receivers and cornerbacks. They play the furthest out wide, which can be known as wide outs in football, and are often fast and elusive, although some teams have utilized bigger wings to smash through the weaker edge defense. They are usually the try scorers, and on defense, they often can and will drop back behind the line and man cover the wings usually.
    12/13: The centers are the rugby equivalent of running/half backs and safeties or additional linebackers on defense. They are strong runners, and among the larger back line players, yet remain agile enough to be a back. They have good execution skills, and often create space for other players playing in the back line. On defense, they are aggressive tacklers, and are often the first to tackle in a scrum defense. Many centers rank among the hardest hitters.
    15: The fullback is the rugby equivalent of a free safety and additional receiver in football. On offense, they may insert themselves into the backline as an additional ball carrier, allowing the offense to overload the defense. On defense, the fullback drops back several meters/feet behind the defensive line, and acts as the final line of defense, much like how a free safety often plays deep coverage. Usually, a wing or both wings will drop back more shallowly to assist in backfield defense. Fullbacks are among the most reliable tacklers on the team, and require a cool mind.
    =====================================================================================================================================================
    Now that we have covered positions, here are some general similarities and differences in play style:
    The rugby scrum is what you would know as the line of scrimmage. It is used in cases when a penalty has been committed, in which the offending team defends and the other team wins possession of the ball to feed in. When the ball is fed into the scrum, it is a live contest, with both packs pushing to gain meter/yard advantage, or to disrupt the opposition.
    There is no football equivalent of the line out. When the ball has gone out of bounds in rugby, the game is restarted with a lineout, in which the hooker throws in the ball while designated jumpers are lifted to contest for the ball.
    As the ball can only be lateraled or passed backwards, rugby style of play focuses on powerful runs and elusive passing.
    Since blocking is illegal in rugby, teams have innovated by adopting a tactic called crashing, in which the decoy pretends to receive the ball, but really "crashes" into the defense WITHOUT obstruction. The ball is then fed to the actual receiver, and if done right, a crash can fake the defense out and expose holes to gain distance.
    When a tackle has been made, a ruck is formed, and the ball must be released for live contest. Players on both sides will push and shove to steal or maintain possession, and when a tackle is made, the tackler MUST roll away, and the ball MUST be released.
    Mauls, to me, are more or less somewhat similar in both games.
    =====================================================================================================================================================
    SPECIAL TEAMS:
    In rugby, kicking is handled by a back, most often the flyhalf, wings, or fullback, while in football, it is often a specialized kicker. When a try has been scored in rugby, the designed kicker will kick from the location of where the ball was placed in the end zone. There is no PAT team, as the extra 2 points are not contested in rugby.
    Kick and punt returning duties are handled by the fullback and wings, although anyone may catch a kicked ball to return. If the situation calls for it, the team who has caught the kicked ball can kick it back.
    Punting the ball downfield is usually done by a designated player already on the field, and is done for similar reasons in football: to gain yards when you cannot make yards on open play. The opposition may charge down the punter to block it.
    During lineouts, the hooker acts as a long snapper, and must throw the ball in straight, or risk being penalized.
    On kickoff, designated players will sprint downfield to tackle the returner early, like a football gunner.
    =====================================================================================================================================================
    At any point in time, a player may attempt a field goal by drop kicking the ball through the goalposts. They are H shaped, and at the front of the endzone.
    Bolder and risky teams may kick the ball downfield, and have teammates chase it to hopefully regain the ball and gain massive yardage or score, which is the closest thing to a forward pass in football. No player may be in front of the kicker before the kick is made.
    =====================================================================================================================================================
    Quick note on rugby league:
    League is more similar to football in that the line out has been omitted, there are fewer players per side, the scrums are more so a means of restarting play than actual pushing, and after 6 tackles not counting kickoff tackles, the ball must be turned over to the other team.
    The 6 tackle rule is the closest thing to the downs system.
    In this style of play, a team will attempt to gain enough distance to score, or at least put the opposition in a tricky spot. Often before the 6th tackle, teams will elect to punt the ball if needed.
    After a tackle is made, players will roll away, while the carrier rolls the ball between his feet for the scrum half to pass the ball. Unlike a live contest ruck, the stops in between plays resembles how in football after each tackle, teams will take a moment to readjust.
    =====================================================================================================================================================
    Players often wear mouth guards, or if they elect to do so, a scrum cap and light pads. The former resembles 7on7 caps, while the light pads may not be made of hard materials unlike football, and may only be 1cm thick according to rules.
    We find our own ways to be drippy in rugby.
    =====================================================================================================================================================
    I hope this comparison helps you understand the two sports better. I would like to try American football at some point if I can, though I consider rugby my main sport. Take care y'all.

    There are a lot of rules in rugby, you cannot pass forward, you cannot drop the ball forward then it is a scrum with throw in to the other team. Red card means that person did something totally illegal and will be off the field for the rest of the game, i think you must come and braai at my house and we can watch a game together! I will explain everything further then. Haha

    That was a red card meaning he was sent of the pitch leaving the all blacks one man down.

    So basically he did a illegal move and got a yellow card that puts you on the bench for 10 min and if you get 2 yellow cards individually you get a red card witch puts that player out for the rest of the match

      @FREEDOMCHASERSLIFE if where you're staying has DSTV Channel 211. If not SABC 3 is showing most games I believe. Try channel 3 on your TV. Springboks vs tonga right now and your boy Moody just scored
