Great review. These are the exact three cases I was looking at getting for my Nexus 7, all on Amazon. I also just noticed that rooCASE is just releasing a new Origami SlimShell Foloio case available on 9/14/2013. It's only $0.01 + $4.98 shipping, so less than $5. I went ahead and ordered it just in case it works better. Also ordered the Moko just because I can get it sooner with Amazon Prime shipping.
Thanks for the review. I've actually been agonizing over which one of these to buy from Amazon. I googled the moko case and low and behold I find out you actually did a review on the cases I had been looking at. Thanks for the help. Gonna get the Poetic case and suffer through the non prime shipping. LOL
I got the Poetic case when it was $5 on Amazon. It's awesome. A few weeks later they sent an email telling me they were sending me another case because people complained about the first one. Well now I have two for $5. Not sure what they cost right now but this case is a definite win. Works with wireless charging.
Nice vid. Buyers beware about MOKO case: the metal tab on the cover can scratch your screen over time near the magnet area due to opening and closing of the lid. I got some minor scratches on my screen in the exact spot near the metal tab so be careful. Its annoying.
I have three Moko slim cases. All of them have a magnet that snaps the tri-fold cover into the triangle shape and hold it as a stand. In addition to being slightly thinner than the poetic case, it doesn't have that ugly silver poetic logo on the cover.
i have the moko case, but on mine the volume/power button cutout still has the lip there, like the poetic one. by the way, you were NOT folding the moko case properly. you were doing it completely backwards. it works perfect when you do it right.
No it won't. The metal clasp sits safely above the screen, and the angle it would have to achieve to touch the screen isn't possible given the sturdiness of the materiels. You might possilby scratch it if you were to bend the cover inward and pull the metal across the screen, but that's a lot of very specific action. I've been using the Moko for about 2 months, and I'm happy with it. Between it and the Poetic, I'd get whichever one you find cheaper. Moko also works with wireless charging!
Does the wireless charging work through those cases? One thing I love about the original Nexus 7 with the Exotek case was it allowed you to charge in the Nexus dock without removing the case. The multi-angle case allowed you to detach one edge and allow easy access to the pogo pins. If only Google made a new Nexus 7 desktop dock that also did wireless charging.
Damn, I was so ready to buy the slimline case watching this video, until I see your comment. I'm curious to know that too. Especially if the magnets do the permanent damages to the internal compass.
thanks for this video! i bought some cases for my womans tablet and the camera cut out wasnt in the right spot, i think it was for the nexus 2012.... but these look better and arent tooo expensive! ill give one a try
I found that with the Poetic Slimline, if you open from the top, it's much easier. Almost like you would a book. There are only three magnets, in the middle and the bottom. There is no magnet at the top.
Not sure what was going on with that Moko case. I have the case in black and it does have a magnet for propping up the tablet that is very easy to use right out box. I think they have changed the design slightly because the charging port also has some protection over it now.
I'm really interested in covering "poetic Slimline", but I have some hestitations because of MAGNETS, what do you think about concerns related to their magnetic fields? Thank you !
I have the rooCASE folio case. I have found it not to smell at all. It feels great in my hand. The stylus works very well. I will order a poetic case to try, but I am quite happy with the rooCaSE I have. (As I was with the one on my 2012 Nexus 7 - which I got a new slimline one from rooCase when I gave it to my wife. And she really likes it.) Just my 2 cents.
People report issues with the poetic magnets playing tricks on Google maps and the compass, is that true? And they also say that with some days of normal usage the thing gets real bad, like it messes up a lot. Can you confirm please?
Hi, thanks for the review, it was great! Is there a possibility of you making a review for the rooCASE Google Nexus 7 FHD 2nd Gen Tablet Origami SlimShell Folio Case Cover? Thanks!
When I'm looking for this case on amazon.co.uk, it isn't in the leather like material, like in this video, now it's some crappy fibre stuff...Where can i get the leather like case??
@aajake well I'm currently using a poetic slimline on my nexus 7 2012 and at each edge it has a very hard plastic corner which would do for the corner protection as for the other cases I would assume they have some sort of edge protection or what use would they be as cases :p
Anyone know a case the same style as the roocase but better quality? I'm replacing a universal case, looking for something more tailored for the Nexus yet with the functionality of the universal case (the cover is attached to the back on a button that allows you to rotate in to switch between portrait and landscape stand modes)
Good Video, wish i watched this before purchasing the Asus premium case. Its terrible doesn't house the device properly and no sleep to wake or magnet close.
i kept wishing you would have said pleather at some point :) in all seriousness though great video...came here though looking for 1st gen nexus 7 cases...anyone have a recommendation?
oh...and im a lefty...hope that doesnt mess me up lol fun fact: left-handed people have a shorter life-span scientists believe it is probably due to power tools and other heavy equipment being developed for righties
I can't believe this guy I have the moko case and it has a magnet in the front cover so when folds it locks in place to the stand similar to the poetic case
anyone else with the Poetic Slimline have theirs not fit super great on the right edge of their Nexus 7? Mine flexes and squeaks a bit on that edge, kind of annoying the hell out of me and as such might not be long for this world
Funny, I had the Poetic Slimline and it fit perfectly but I cracked it when taking the non-hinge side off instead of the hinge side where there is more flexibility. After breaking the Slimline, I got the Moko to see how that compared and the Moko has the issue you describe, where the right side is slightly loose and really annoying! These style cases don't leave much room for error, so it probably varies from case to case within a manufacturer. I think I'll probably send the Moko back.
The smell of the rooCase fades completely after a few days. This should not impact purchase decision. I have a rooCase for my Kindle and the unit seems better protected in a drop vs a snap-on case. The pocket design surrounds the unit.
None. I got the asus 7 inch tablet sleeve. Neatly tucks always when not in use, charging port left open for charging and when I use it I take it out I use it naked style but if I need a stand its also that for video and email typing. Awesome
Check put the channel of KcBboy for the video review of the official Asus 7 in. Tablet sleeve. It's pretty good. That review convinced me to get that case
One of the best reviews and comparisons for the nexus 7 2013 cases I've seen so far , great job man

Thanks i was waiting a vídeo like this to decide which one is better.

Very useful review and frankly a great selection of cases.
The Moko does too, if you ever need to order another. They're both great cases.
Thank you so much for the review! It really helped picking the right one!
I have three Moko slim cases. All of them have a magnet that snaps the tri-fold cover into the triangle shape and hold it as a stand. In addition to being slightly thinner than the poetic case, it doesn't have that ugly silver poetic logo on the cover.
Helped me decide and the poetic is awesome.
i have the moko case, but on mine the volume/power button cutout still has the lip there, like the poetic one.
by the way, you were NOT folding the moko case properly. you were doing it completely backwards. it works perfect when you do it right.
The moko case has has a magnet on the inside of the flap that holds the metal piece for you to fold it to stand the tablet up.
Agreed, slimline from poetic is a really nice case for the money.
No it won't. The metal clasp sits safely above the screen, and the angle it would have to achieve to touch the screen isn't possible given the sturdiness of the materiels. Moko FTW I have it for my nexus 7 2013 and its probably the best case I have ever used
Damn, I was so ready to buy the slimline case watching this video, until I see your comment.
I own the poetic.
Buy it.
It's great.
Mine is over six months old and looks and feels brand new.
thanks! just what i was looking for!
For the moko case, there is a magnetic strip that lets you fold it into a triangle and stand it up its just hard to find
I found that with the Poetic Slimline, if you open from the top, it's much easier. Almost like you would a book. There are only three magnets, in the middle and the bottom. There is no magnet at the top.
i also have a poetic slimline and I LOVE it
Not sure what was going on with that Moko case. I have the case in black and it does have a magnet for propping up the tablet that is very easy to use right out box. I think they have changed the design slightly because the charging port also has some protection over it now.
Poetic case is the best! Happy with my purchase.
Roo looks like it could have some pretty nice shock resistant, the poetic and moko are rather similar. Definitely going to Moko though.
I'm really interested in covering "poetic Slimline", but I have some hestitations because of MAGNETS, what do you think about concerns related to their magnetic fields?
Thank you !
COMENTING ON MY NEXUS 7 IN THE POETIC SLIMLIKE CASE!
Thanks for the review! Does the case cover the microphones?
Great comparison. Does RooCase work with wireless charging?
Great review, very helpful, thanks!
I have the Poetic case and it works just fine with wireless charging.
Moko has the magnet for trifold, too. He just didn't do it right. They're both great cases!
People report issues with the poetic magnets playing tricks on Google maps and the compass, is that true?
And they also say that with some days of normal usage the thing gets real bad, like it messes up a lot.
Can you confirm please?
the magnets in those things sure mess up the compass so Apps like Google Skymap don't work well at all when in the case.
Hi, thanks for the review, it was great!
Is there a possibility of you making a review for the rooCASE Google Nexus 7 FHD 2nd Gen Tablet Origami SlimShell Folio Case Cover?
Thanks!
Does Poetic Slimline case scratch your Nexus 7 when you snap it in or when you remove it?
Kindly advice. Thanks.

YOU WERE FOLDING THE MOKO CASE THE WRONG WAY
I know right!
I 💜 my poetic slimline case 😁
roocase is actually pretty sweet deal for the price
Anybody know the Nillkin V Series? how would that case compare to the poetic or moko case?
Is the metal clasp on the Moko likely to scratch the screen?
Good Video, wish i watched this before purchasing the Asus premium case. Its terrible doesn't house the device properly and no sleep to wake or magnet close.
When you triangle fold the Slimline, it has a magnet. So, the triangle fold will stay. Moko does not have that. Poetic Slimline all the way!
i kept wishing you would have said pleather at some point :)
in all seriousness though great video...came here though looking for 1st gen nexus 7 cases...anyone have a recommendation?

I'm using moko and it is great

Can i still charge on Qi with this?

I have the same question... !
i bought the roocase
it was only 5 dollars with free shipping :/
helpful, thx

Awesome
i believe the slimline is leather
