When did they get their unit? Google released 2 updates since the release. I have not had any wifi issues thus far. Was it dropping? I'd say battery life is average...like lasts a little longer than the average smartphone. It's not fantastic like lasting longer than 10 hours or anything. But it's ok...
Thank you so much for the review. I absolutely love your videos, I'm a big display nerd and you're the only person I've found on RUclips who consistently uses a colorimeter to give true display reviews and I absolutely love that on top of giving factual, unbiased reviews instead of just 'I think this looks/runs good or bad, etc.' One point that I would like to put out there if it has not already been commented on is that there is a very good chance that the increase in gpu performance
This review was actually very indepth and informative. Instant like when she got all technical and brought out gamma charts for the display. Not many reviewers would go that far!
Good to hear that. Well, on a side note, he did promised to give the viewers an update to the issue once he get a 2nd unit in the video(not by annotation). Thanks for your time to comment on this issue.
Amazing video Erica!! Saw you first on XDA and just came across this video in my "what to watch" stream. I'm glad I did as you now have a new subscriber!! I love this review! I also have a question. I noticed that it didn't look like you had any touch sensitivity issues in your video. I (and many others based on forum posts I've read), have experienced varying degrees of missed-touch / multi-touch problems. How was your experience as you continued to use the tablet? Thanks!
lance domhoff It's true that some people are anal about their devices and complain about some things that can be relatively minor. However, the issues I've (and many others have faced) unfortunately isn't our fault and not minor. Don't get me wrong, I love my N7; but the touch-issues mar an otherwise impeccable device. Sometimes the missed touches can really make the tablet unusable until it's restarted. It's just frustrating at the worst of times.
lance domhoff Unfortunately I have to agree with Craig McAnuff. I've had some serious touch screen issues as well. Checking the Android forums I found this is quite common. While I had the tablet since May this year... I'd given it quite the benefit of the doubt, but I was wrong, I called Asus a couple of weeks ago who were aware of the hardware issue & it's currently with them.
Now is a good time to learn =) If a display does not have a good enough contrast ratio, blacks won't look good or dark enough. Maybe you haven't experienced this enough yet.
I did not expect the review to be good but... daaaaaaayum! Excellent review! So techy and so informative and completely different from other reviews! Loved it! ^_^
no problem =) On the S4 and HTC One Qualcomm versions it is soooo not smooth at all. I have had this problem with every qualcomm device so far besides nexus...really don't know what Samsung and HTC did to their drivers.
That has been more or less available since original Jelly Bean. They just enhanced it. Tap and hold notification and it brings you to app info. Then hit disable notifications... not so new.
hey Erica huge fan your videos are very entertain and helpful. Because of you i am now much better with phone repairs and stuff.Thank You so much and keep you the good work
I did a mini review of the Note 8.0 the Nexus 7 has a better screen and a wider gamut. It's just a big Galaxy Note II. You will know what to expect if you saw that video.
Hi Erica, do you experience any Wifi connectivity issue with this device? Jon Rettinger from TechnoBuffalo claims that his unit have Wifi connection issue, the connection is wonky/ hard to get connected and it is causing the battery drain faster, he do say it might be a faulty review unit and he will give the view an update if he managed to get another unit. Great job reviewing the product! Certainly my go to reviewer.
Nice to see someone actually detailed about the display. Display is important to me. I'm not completely satisfied with the display of the HTC One. It's a little cold.
Good review. One thing I noticed is I don't have a disable tab in my app section like shown in your video. That's weird and my tablet has the latest update.
Where can I get one of those color-ometers? I've been dying (figuratively) to test my calibrated nexus 4 screen, and see if I put the gamma where it should be or if it's too low.
Permission centre does not refer only to disabling notifications. That was a mere example. The possibility to block an app for having access to my contacts or to my messages is a functionality which should have been implemented a lot earlier. So it is one of the best features available next to user accounts.
@TheAngelofMusic1989 Could you tell us more about the new "App Permissions" that Android 4.3 now lets the user access? Thanks. And as always, great review.
Has this new Nexus 7 gotten over the lag or sluggishness from the original? I heard last year that if the memory was down to 1GB the system would slow down to a crawl, any issues with filling up the device to near capacity? Thanks!
Hey Erica! Love the review. You've pretty much convinced me to buy one! one question, though: how's the sound quality when you use earphones? Now I'm no whiz like yourself and François, but as I understand it, the DAC does a lot for the sound quality. I'm still in love with my Nexus S for that very reason. How's stuff on the new Nexus 7?
Her Erica, I've just revisited this video as from your recommendation I have purchased the Nexus 7 FHD 2013. as you know now the next version of Android will be 4.4 KitKat but in video at 2.20 you are showing a KitKat Chunky. Was this a clue or hint that you knew something.
There are some severe problems going around on tons of units relating to multi touch which works horribly. You can confirm this by looking on XDA and also trying the app YAMTT.
Erica...I am planning to buy a new tablet...within a budget of 350$...which one would u suggest? I have two options...THE NEXUS 7 2nd GENERATION or THE IPAD MINI! PLEASE REPLY!
Well... I'm waiting until they release more updates because right now it lasts about as long as a phone, like the S4, which is not so impressive. 20 hours with about 5 hours of screen time is the best so far.
Speaking of the stuttering in granny smith, I know it's not a really demanding game, but could the stuttering be due to throttling? While playing Virtua Tennis on my S4 I notice that after playing for about 15-20 min there are more occasional stutters, the game seems to be running a bit slower, and touch responsiveness in the game is decreased -- waiting a bit and then resuming seems to fix the issue. Rather disappointing, considering the phone doesn't seem to be getting that hot at all....
I love how much detail you always cover on displays. Have yet to find another reviewer whose that passionate about the small things..ps...if granny smith does a commercial...you NEED to be in it lol.
I would love to see you take a custom kernel of your choice and fine tune color settings. Seems like all presets are worse than stock and I can't make anything look decent.
Should you recommend this tablet for college or something else? I'm looking for the best tablet to take to class so I don't have to take my heavy macbook pro. Thanks!
Yes, I do have the same issue with the speakers. I am either going to exchange it or send it out for repair. I don't believe this could be normal. If you have any information about the speakers please help.
Erica, how do you feel about the app support for android tablets? I want an Android tablet but all I'm hearing is bad things about app support for them. Yes they have apps, but they're ugly stretched out phone apps. I want apps designed to use all that extra space. I want to buy a tablet & if there aren't good android tablet apps I'll have to go with an iPad because of all the iPad specific, beautiful apps on the Apple app store. But this Nexus 7 is a beauty! Can't wait to see the next Nexus 10!
Great review as usual, I played with one in a shop today and had the feeling that input latency is still there Could you test it ? Might be specific to the demo unit ? Well ... just wanted to know if you have tested that Thank you anyway
Erica , are you having problems with your wifi on your new Nexus 7 tablet? The reason I'm asking is because TechnoBuffalo put up a video not too long ago complaining about wifi problems and battery problems I was just wondering if you're having the same problem I have got the old 2012 Nexus in love we had for like 2&a half 3 months and I've had no problems with mine for older model of last year you know I got you sure are you having any p Great video keep up the really great work!!!
Love your reviews; I will buy this in part from this review. On another note, Oppo has released the Color ROM (Project Firefly is over) for the Oppo Find 5. Any chance for a review on that device/ROM? Not for me, the device is awesome, just want to get the word out. Armando Ferreira still chooses the Find 5 over the HTC One.
Thanks for this great review. I have the previous model of the nexus 7 and I am still happy with it. This new model seems awesome though, I hear nothing but praise for it. I will wait for the new nexus 10 before deciding to which one to upgrade.
Great review. Based on what I know, it's a steal for even $260. You get 32GB, a retina type display, a quad core processor, and 2GB of RAM. What's there to complain about?
you have a lot of 'gestures' looking like those communicating pros in presentations, and you also look pretty damn young ? did you study or it's just in the dna ? :) subscribed.
Erica, I am currently using a galaxy s3 and I'm on Verizon wireless and to be honest... i go t this phone last Wednesday.. Just switched from apple but i have been big on android. Anyways, Have you heard anything about a nexus 5? or nexus (vs) (2013) ?? I've heard of a google winter event coming up.
Wonderfully in-depth. I would have been harsher on those speakers, though! For a much bigger device than the One, you'd expect sound that's at least as full-sounding. Still, a bit hard to complain at $230.
I'd say his is faulty. MINE IS NOT WONKY and connects immediately. It's kinda not fair for him to announce that and his fame and power to make people think the device is defective. Maybe he should have looked into that a bit.
oh boy...yeah I get that but seriously? Try viewing a movie like that. As soon as it's not entirely straight, you lose the image quality. I'd think that this is fairly obvious.
So glad to find your channel, your reviews for Android devices are the most informative & professional.
Been waiting for this full review, the choice is crystal clear like the display Thanks Erica
When did they get their unit? Google released 2 updates since the release. I have not had any wifi issues thus far. Was it dropping? I'd say battery life is average...like lasts a little longer than the average smartphone. It's not fantastic like lasting longer than 10 hours or anything. But it's ok...
that small hands really helped me go for the nexus 7
"not an in depth review" 20 minutes long. That's why I love this channel. Very content rich
I am confused at how this is a simple review... This is in-depth and awesome! :D
Good to hear that. Well, on a side note, he did promised to give the viewers an update to the issue once he get a 2nd unit in the video(not by annotation). Thanks for your time to comment on this issue.
This has got to be the best review I have ever seen! Thanks for a cogent and thorough insight into the Nexus 7.
Amazing video Erica!! Saw you first on XDA and just came across this video in my "what to watch" stream. I'm glad I did as you now have a new subscriber!!

Thanks!
I've had mine since its been out and no touch issues? I think people complain about the weirdest thing that is probably their own fault any ways.
lance domhoff It's true that some people are anal about their devices and complain about some things that can be relatively minor. However, the issues I've (and many others have faced) unfortunately isn't our fault and not minor.

First time watching one of your reviews. You're pretty good and very good at pointing out details. Thanks for the great review.
I'm sure that with the FauxClock program that without being able to match with sRGB or Gamma 2.2 that you can't possibly guess and eyeball it.
It's not LPDDR3. It's DDR3L. There is a slight difference. I actually mentioned all of this if you actually watched the video.
When you show all these charts, you are very good at describing them and I actually find myself understanding them :) thank you
Now is a good time to learn =) If a display does not have a good enough contrast ratio, blacks won't look good or dark enough. Maybe you haven't experienced this enough yet.
One of the best review of Nexus 7. Good job girl!
I did not expect the review to be good but... daaaaaaayum! Excellent review! So techy and so informative and completely different from other reviews! Loved it! ^_^
All your vids are amazing!!!!! Go Erica!!!!
the sound seems crisp and clear until it meets it's resonating frequencies. At that point the buzz can be pretty annoying.
Great review. I have been hearing problems with touch and NFC, have you noticed this.
Thumbs up for taking your own measurements and excellent technical explanations
I will link it in the description.
no problem =) On the S4 and HTC One Qualcomm versions it is soooo not smooth at all. I have had this problem with every qualcomm device so far besides nexus...really don't know what Samsung and HTC did to their drivers.

Nice Erica good presentation. Like your real life comparison makes it easy to understand
I did a mini review of the Note 8.0 the Nexus 7 has a better screen and a wider gamut. It's just a big Galaxy Note II. You will know what to expect if you saw that video.
Indeed that is very possible!!!! But mine stutters at startup lol.
Hi Erica, do you experience any Wifi connectivity issue with this device? I'm not completely satisfied with the display of the HTC One. It's a little cold.
Good review. One thing I noticed is I don't have a disable tab in my app section like shown in your video. That's weird and my tablet has the latest update.
There's always going to be a new version... just get what suits you.
Do you notice that the top edge of the display by the camera is brighter than the rest of the tablet or did I get a lemon?
Where can I get one of those color-ometers? I've been dying (figuratively) to test my calibrated nexus 4 screen, and see if I put the gamma where it should be or if it's too low.
You're so awesome at these videos. Very enjoyable, great work. My favorite tech reviewer :)

Erica do you think 7" is optimal for a tablet? It's only 2" bigger than the S4. Do you think 8+ would be optimal for media consumption?
There are some severe problems going around on tons of units relating to multi touch which works horribly. You can confirm this by looking on XDA and also trying the app YAMTT.

I've never had an issue with the buzz with speaking at decent volumes, at the time or recording has you checked with multiple units or just the one?
I love how much detail you always cover on displays. Have yet to find another reviewer whose that passionate about the small things..ps...if granny smith does a commercial...you NEED to be in it lol.
How's the battery on it and comparing the new gen nexus 7 with the old one?
How is the battery keeping in mind the display... 9 hrs for sure?
I recently got this. I noticed that it gets a bid tad warm, a little too warm, on the back while watching videos.. is this normal?
Regardless of the price what would you recommend the nexus 7 or the IPad 4?
Okay, another question, how much memory does the OS take up? Don't want to buy the 16gb model if there's only 10 available. :P
I would love to see you take a custom kernel of your choice and fine tune color settings. Seems like all presets are worse than stock and I can't make anything look decent.

Excellent review, Erica. :)

This was a first impressions video? Geez, I'd like to see the full review. I like the way she reviews :)
Thanks for this great review. I have the previous model of the nexus 7 and I am still happy with it. This new model seems awesome though, I hear nothing but praise for it. I will wait for the new nexus 10 before deciding to which one to upgrade.
you go girl, you stood up for yourself. and I respect your opinion.
Great review. Based on what I know, it's a steal for even $260. You get 32GB, a retina type display, a quad core processor, and 2GB of RAM. What's there to complain about?
I wonder if the frame drop happens on an HTC One or S4 running CyanogenMod?
How is the WiFi signal? I've heard some saying the WiFi is signal is poor.
When you first get one. Why can't I get to the apps, please please answer
Hey erica, had the same issues when playing granny smith on my HTC One. But since the 4.2.2 update everything runs smooth for me.
very nice hands on review erica.
I never realized the small hands until you mentioned it. Now I just can't help noticing it. :D
I think 7-8 is the sweetspot. anything else gets too big for pockets...
What are your thoughts on the upcoming, long awaited, galaxy note 3?
you have a lot of 'gestures' looking like those communicating pros in presentations, and you also look pretty damn young ? did you study or it's just in the dna ? :) subscribed.
Erica: You are amazing. This was a very good demo.
Can you do one on the GPS of the Nexus 7?
is there an app to calibrate the Nexus 7 to your liking?
Erica, I am currently using a galaxy s3 and I'm on Verizon wireless and to be honest... i go t this phone last Wednesday.. Just switched from apple but i have been big on android. Anyways, Have you heard anything about a nexus 5? or nexus (vs) (2013) ?? I've heard of a google winter event coming up.
What are the apps u used to run the screen tests?? thanks

best review ever, thanx erica!
Super great video. Thanks for the in depth review. Loved it. :)
How is the battery life on the new Nexus7?
it's funny when she said it's not a full depth review lol how much more can you do!!!
great review!!
Seriously I never thought that girls can review gadgets like this, Keep impressing us.
Just to let you know I enjoy your channel
who's the kid doing the review? are you doing the voiceover?
which one is the best nexus 7 or ipad mini comparing prices and performance?
Just subbed, u have some awesome content
I'd say his is faulty. MINE IS NOT WONKY and connects immediately. It's kinda not fair for him to announce that and his fame and power to make people think the device is defective. Maybe he should have looked into that a bit.
Hey Erica, does the Nexus 7 have Wifi Direct like on the S3? Thx
Would u recomend getting the nexus 7
oh boy...yeah I get that but seriously? Try viewing a movie like that. As soon as it's not entirely straight, you lose the image quality. I'd think that this is fairly obvious.
It's really too soon to say but I feel like it lasts a little longer than a phone...like 9 hours. It's not the best.
Erica... ur one true geek...
We salute to mam!!!
great review. bought one and I am returning it today. Bombs on Netflix. great screen but don't want to locked into google play exclusively.
