I love it when I Thrust my sword downwards into Ganondorf’s chest in this game. It really reminds me of the actual Zelda games. Oh and by the way if you want to look at the bair combos then I suggest playing it in slow motion.
Quick note: Take these combos with a grain of salt, considering the combo counter is, as usual, completely A$$, and DI may get you out of some of these combos. But don't worry, overall, most of these combos are very reliable. also, don't forget to subscribe
Lots of combos! I've been playing Link since Brawl, but never tried to learn combos tbh. Out of these, are there any bread-and-butter combos you specifically recommend working on?
Does anyone else bounce their bombs off of their boomerang sometimes? I've found that at higher percents if you throw your boomerang, and on the boomerangs return if you throw the bomb at just the right time you bounce the bomb off the boomerang and it'll be at just the right spot to hit the opponent
I've experimented quite a bit with link and I have found a very important combo not mentioned in the video; link can actually pull off a chain grab at zero with very precise inputs. if you grab at zero, on many characters above or around average weight (the very fastest fall speeds, like fox, make this combo ineffective), you can shorthop nair as soon as you can, and also have to start moving forward as soon as you are in the air, then fastfall as fast as possible, then a true regrab is possible. maybe 20% of the roster is heavy enough to do it twice. you can use this combo to reliably add more damage to a combo or to set up a mid-low percent grab combo that won't work at zero. I have not tested this against DI yet. It is very difficult to move forward soon enough in the air and it takes a lot of practice but it does work. seeing as it is so tight to move far enough forward to regrab without a DI, I think this combo can be reliably DI'd out of, but it is not a well-known combo, so it usually works, and with enough practice, can be used in a typical match
Around 1:30 he does a small combo to where the opponent hits the ground and he jabs the opponent on the ground to extend. Another way to do this jab is by jab resetting which Esam uses very well. He even put a video up if any of you felt like further exploration.
They don’t call this The Link Channel for nothing. I’ve only learned a small amount of the combos and have trouble executing the grabs, but this video is slowly helping me. Thank you very much!
Please! Young Link optimal combo guide! I'll love it, I'm a YL main, and that would be very helpfull to improve, also, there is a few content about YL that really helps, and your guides are perfect!
@@Mookie908 You're effing kidding me right? Go watch combo videos of Germ, SAUS and Sixx. The stuff Ultimate Link can do is textbook in comparison. The only real difference is the remote bomb, which does allow for some cool set-ups, but would be even better if the game had Melee's level of hitstun.
@@nahor88 Why you so salty, my guy? It's a better game regardless of whether the combos are "better." Besides, a lot of the crap in Melee is broken or horribly imbalanced. Ultimate manages to make around 70+ characters viable. Melee manages to do that for..... two characters. Heh, funny.
I don't play Link but this video is super helpful for anyone who plays as him. You should definitely do this kind of video for other characters, that would be sweet and it would help whoever plays those characters. If you are taking suggestions then I would love to see a video like this for Sonic :) that video will be like half as long and ez to make ;)
The plan for this channel is definitely to have focus on link/young link while also providing less focused content for the rest of the cast. In smash 4 i released guides for falcon and ZSS who had far more success than my link guides (-_-) So yeah, thanks for your feedback, i love the idea:) Speaking of which...... ‘cineroar. ;)
Thank you for this. I feel like I have potential playing Link as my main and I’ve been looking for ways to improve - combo vids, reviewing matches I’ve lost on quickplay, etc. I don’t intend to become the best Link player in the world but there are tournaments in my college that would be cool to do somewhat well in. So again thank you :)
Apparently I need to combo into an aerial up be more often. I don't even think of trying and because if I miss I feel like I'm just gonna get punished too hard
Man, your channel is so helpful to a Link main like myself, if only there were people like you with skill and dedication of your caliber for more fighters. Hey, you should consider making Young Link and maybe Toon Link related videos as well, since I'm sure lots of Link players like me frequent them too. They're just so similar, really.
Man I feel so stupid for not thinking some of these combos, specially the boomerang to d-air. Very helpful video, hopefully I'll implement some of these combos to my gameplay
Amazing video, I always go here when I want to lab some Link combos even if some are hard af. Only problem is I somehow never manage to do the down throw + turnaround up tilt combo, it's never true. I do manage to do the turnaround uptilt, not consistently though, but the counter never says it's true, I end with the same percentage as you (33.2%) but the counter always says 2 instead of 3, no matter how fast I do the turnaround uptilt :/ is there something I'm doing wrong ? I tried changing the cpu di settings and stuff but I still don't get the true combo.
This video was good, one thing is that link's fair 1 is extremely good when the enemy is in the air, and it's drag down means you fastfall it and you can spin attack to KC at pretty good percents
I beg to disagree. I co-main young link, and it comparison, Link's fair dragdowns are just bad. It simply has too much endlag/landing lag to get anything going. The only setup that leads into it is close range boomerang. there is indeed a dragdown into spin attack kill confirm but timing is tight, requires hilt spacing, and more. I feel like if you're ever going to catch someone in the air with fair, fair 1-2 is good enough and more reliable. Definitely an option to keep in mind, though. Thanks for your comment!
@@LxZLinkDidn't specify this, but I did mean fullhop fair, I personally found it's dragdown effect better for following up, probably because of Link's fastfall. It's possible because alot of my serious link games are against a good Cloud player, and I use it alot to catch them before they can use something like full hop fair. It's more of a mid % kill option, and nets kills slightly earlier than fair 2. In general, at the least a decent mixup, and works against opponents who tend to FHop. Though against someone who doesn't go very high up, say Roy or Chrom, who are mostly shop aerials, I can see it not being very useful. Some of your options displayed did surprise me though, I never really used ASA as a combo finisher mid-stage, and to see it work gave me new options that I've started playing around with. Good stuff
At 1:41 You did Dthrow to Nair. I went frame by frame and some how your Nair came out on frame 7. That is weird since some how you bypassed the jumpsquat How did u do that. I can't seem to get Dthrow to nair to combo. it should of came out on the 10th frame in Practice even if i do it perfectly frame by frame buffered etc still 10th frame. btw it is true combo i know this like MK 2frame Air dodge doesnt come out in time so i get that, but i am curious how u did what u did.

I congratulate you for this vid, this ust have taken forever. But you should do the combo where you use bomb d throw catch with first hit bair into do throw bomb catch first hit bair into up b, its a combo that goes really far.
Super interesting! Thanks for sharing this! Maybe a basic question but one set of combos I don't understand is the Dair combos: how can you immediately trigger Bair/Nair right after your first Dair lands? When I try to reproduce this, it seems I'm "locked" into the Dair move at that point and can't do anything until I land. Can't get it. If anyone knows about this, I'd be very grateful.
I don't play Link, but I wish there was a way to share this with every Link player I come across on Quickplay so they will stop playing so lame - just standing on one end of the stage, spamming projectiles and smashes. I wanna play against some of this real-deal Link stuff.

Hey LxZ, I was wondering if link had received nerfs since the video came out? Because some combos seem weirdly true to me, like boomerang > boomerang or D Throw > bair
No nerfs, but the combo meter did get updated to be more "strict". I released this video very early on in the Smash Ult lifecycle, so there's definitely a possibility that some of these are not 100% true. That said, the combo meter is still not 100% accurate (if a character's airdodge is frame 3, you realistically have 2 more frames to land your unavoidable combo).
