Maybe a little add-on to the guide: Macro cancelling can also be used to cancel Pivot Tilts and do aggresive wavebounces (bouncing into the enemy). For the Pivot Tilt Cancelling, just start a run animation to one side, tilt the control stick to the other side to star a slide animation and then, at the same time, press special and the C-stick to whatever direction you want (or just special to start a neutral special). This CAN be done without changing the controls (mostly neutral and side special are easy to do without c-stick cancels), but doing it with C-stick seems to maximise your slide distance, direction of the move (using the upper and lower right and left notches to instantly reverse the special and also helps tremendously when trying to execute a sliding up-special or down special, since you only slide with the control stick and choose the special with the C-stick (all the Links are benefitted by this, for example). This can be great for both retreating with a grounded special or making sure your specials cover more ground than usual (like Link's or Bayo's UpB). The video also focuses on defensive wavebounces (meaning, bouncing away from the opponent). If you want to do the opposite, just run away from them, jump and the immediately press Control stick in the opposite direction you were running + Special + C-stick in the direction you were running. Again, this can be done with a runaway b-reverse, but the C-stick cancel starts the special way faster that doing it the normal way. This will probably be reposted in Smashboards, but I thought a lot of people will see this video first or don't have a Smashboards account.

@@TheWeedIsland It's held up for me quite fine, though after getting my hands on some decent quality og gc controllers, I prefer the feel of them more than the Power A GC controller that I had. It's been perfectly serviceable otherwise imo.
@@gravitygas3891 Have you noticed any latency when comparing the wireless power A (if its the one you have) to the GCN? Just got a hardwired game cube controller and the it feels much more responsive but I’m not sure if it’s just placebo from having the rumble feedback lol
@@stanleyhercules I'll be perfectly honest, I don't play Smash a whole lot anymore, and even when I did, I wasn't good enough to worry about latency with my controller. For what it's worth though, I didn't really notice any latency change going from the Power A controller and an OG GC controller; if anything, I just noticed that the quality/feel of the parts were much better on the GCC than the Power A.
Holy shit how do you always find some intricate and fleshed-out technique that’s realistic and has massive potential that no one other person on the entire internet has covered to the same detail, if at all. Amazing work.
So I mastered the neutral b wave bounce but also found out that a slightly tweaked version of those inputs consistently gets me an instant rar. It’s so much more useful and easier than the other rar techniques!
For anyone struggling with the Zelda technique, I made an error list below. If you're consistently having problems, slow down, do each input slowly, and then slowly speed up back to regular speed (a regular exercise in training memory). You'll get it, give it time. For the reverse down air: If you get a tilt: you pressed jump too slow If you get a forward air: you pressed jump before the c stick If you get a back air: you did not move the control stick downward fast enough If you get a down air with no momentum: you moved the control stick downward too fast (before jumping) If you get a forward down air with backward momentum: you hit the c stick and jump on the same frame For the B reverse down air: If you get no B move: you pressed B too late If you get Din's fire forward: You pressed jump before the c stick, or you pressed B too early If you get Din's fire backward: You didn't move the control stick down fast enough If you get Knight backward: You pressed B before the c stick If you get the neutral B: Work on rolling the control stick from right/left to down. Don't return to neutral
@@BRLink1 practice the instant reverse down air more. Two things could cause your issue: 1. Not drifting backwards far enough - I've had this issue if you have very little grounded momentum. Rarely happens 2. Not properly performing the instant reverse down air. Without this, down b will always land behind zelda. Hopefully this helps
Fantastic video. The editing is flawless, and the information is helpful, detailed, well explained, and hasn’t been discussed in a RUclips video like this before. Catch me in the training room with this tech.
is anyone else just b-reversing? i feel like i always end up facing the other direction. Im playing like and instead of fading back and shooting the arrow i just shoot it other way.
I was having this same problem at first. The way to get around it is to treat it like a RAR (Reverse Arial Rush) and hit the controls stick in the opposite direction from that which you’re running right before executing the jump, this way the b reversal works in your favor and you can perform the wave bounce.
For awhile I was just Reversing with Dark Samus trying to do the neutral bounce. Make sure holding the direction stick forward. On a pro controller I'm finding it difficult to get the c stick at a downward angle. But I'm starting to get it.
I have help!!! Sorta! Lol I had literally the same exact issue for awhile today. On normal speed it would be a b-reverse, but when I went to 1/4 speed, I got it almost every time. I was wondering why this was only broken on 1x speed. Obviously this was my fault, but it seemed like it wasn't. Once I realized that, and my own finger-bias for button pressing, I figured it out. When you b-reverse instead of wave bounce, you are hitting the Special button like a SPLIT SECOND too late. Once I started tricking my brain to 'pressing special early', since my thumb is faster in general, it compensated the speed to make them more direct. So like you should be doing... Over, jump-special-c stick. But I was subconsciously doing Over, jump-c stick-special I think... lol. Once I realized there was timing issues with my button inputs, I went to 1/4 speed til I got it down pat, then to 1/2, then 2/3, then 1x, etc. But I can GUARANTEE you that your timing of how you press the button and c stick is off. Either you're like me and your thumb moves too quickly, or maybe it's your index finger. But I got it working and was 100% doing b-reversals at first instead of wave bounces. I hope this helps!
I just started playing yesterday. The first thing I did was figure out an accessible control setup for my literally lame hands. Lucky for me, I don't need to change a thing for these cool tricks. What a relief.

@@SallowDawn I think i know why. I tested it a lot and i figured out something with my labbers friends : in short, the lower speed game isn't exactly the same for the cstick. I think it's a 3-frames in a direction plus one press of let's say A, in a normal case scenario buuuut in 2/3 or lower speed world, when you do like a c-stick ftilt it's 4 frames in the given direction, plus one press of A we tested it with mega man in the training stage to be sure of it, and we are pretty confident about it So it's not possible to do it on the ground like that
@@MrFloshadow Wow, that would make a lot of sense regarding this problem, and I think you're the first person to notice that. That's an excellent find by you, my friend.
Did they do something to patch this or is my timing just really bad? I can consistently breverse now but wave bouncing is like 1/20 for me. I really want to learn this cause I'm playing ylink. run in -> jump -> cstick back -> special. When I try this it's normally I just throw a backair, otherwise I end up doing side b behind me. Can somebody help me figure out the timing on when i use the cstick and the special?
Yo, I'm trying to learn this as well and I was thinking the same, but I managed to get it. I practice by doing the tilt attack cancel into special the air at the peek of my jump instead of straight away so I can get the hang of the cancel. Also did it in 1/4 speed too. Hope it helps :)
This video is very VERY helpful! I hope you get to continue making content like this. I would like to add a few personal notes. The b-reverse is very inconsistent when I first started but when I let go of the control stick after the jump then immediately buffered the tilt+special+left it is coming out more consistent. I will continue to experiment with the other tech, but highly recommended! Thank you!
So my next homework is to practice both Attack cancel & C-stick macro specials, I feel like it's going to be a blast once I'm getting used to it, thank you for those great tutorials!
Fantastic video as always! I'm especially excited for this since I've had this control scheme set-up for about a month already. Now I just gotta practice the tech.
Anyone know if you can do the same thing for non-buffered neutral special as you could with side special? EDIT: You can do a down special wave bounce by doing something similar to the side special wavebounce, but do c-stick diagonal forward instead
@@paulmhessing Same problem here, I'm not sure what it is. Although, the angle directions on my Gamecube controller do not do angled tilts, and instead do down tilts. I have to aim the joystick slightly above the angle, to get the tilt attack.

Lethalness yep, most tech people are finding in ultimate existed in smash 4, but they have way more applications in a faster game.
This video honestly couldn't have come out at a better time. I just started to practice wavebounces and this makes it so much easier. And I don't mind changing my gamecube controls to have this many options available
I am so glad I never unsubscribed to your channel.
This video single handedly got my ZSS in Elite Smash. How can I show my gratitude to such an invaluable video.
That happy moment when you have a Power A "GameCube" controller with 2 "Z" buttons
How is that controller holding up? Wondering about the quality of 3rd party controllers bc the official ones pissed me off so many times with the Switch
Two game changing videos back to back. You are clearly the most vital piece in the puzzle right now.
Thanks for the video. It was great and I enjoyed it. This technique also seems useful too.

I love your vids. Your knowledge is unbelievable
Holy shit how do you always find some intricate and fleshed-out technique that’s realistic and has massive potential that no one other person on the entire internet has covered to the same detail, if at all. Amazing work.
"Here it is at actual speed." Okay, so I will never be doing that.
For the reverse down air:
If you get a tilt: you pressed jump too slow
If you get a forward air: you pressed jump before the c stick
If you get a back air: you did not move the control stick downward fast enough
If you get a down air with no momentum: you moved the control stick downward too fast (before jumping)
If you get a forward down air with backward momentum: you hit the c stick and jump on the same frame
For the B reverse down air:
If you get no B move: you pressed B too late
If you get Din's fire forward: You pressed jump before the c stick, or you pressed B too early
If you get Din's fire backward: You didn't move the control stick down fast enough
If you get Knight backward: You pressed B before the c stick
If you get the neutral B: Work on rolling the control stick from right/left to down. Don't return to neutral
Draco Digiacomo can’t tell you how much this helped me, thanks 👍
i'm jumping ahead of the knight and instead of behind it, any help here plz ?
@@BRLink1 practice the instant reverse down air more. Two things could cause your issue:
1. Not drifting backwards far enough - I've had this issue if you have very little grounded momentum. Rarely happens

When showing imputs, could you show the sequence on the screen such as: A -> B -> C-stick + Shield?
Otherwise, great video

Ah, alright.
This is the perfect example of why I use a power a wireless GameCube controller, it's a wireless GameCube controller and has the extra shoulder!
is anyone else just b-reversing? i feel like i always end up facing the other direction. Im playing like and instead of fading back and shooting the arrow i just shoot it other way.
yep
I was having this same problem at first. The way to get around it is to treat it like a RAR (Reverse Arial Rush) and hit the controls stick in the opposite direction from that which you’re running right before executing the jump, this way the b reversal works in your favor and you can perform the wave bounce.
Alex Mungo I always get a forward air when I do this
For awhile I was just Reversing with Dark Samus trying to do the neutral bounce. Make sure holding the direction stick forward. On a pro controller I'm finding it difficult to get the c stick at a downward angle. But I'm starting to get it.
I have help!!! Sorta! Lol
I had literally the same exact issue for awhile today.
But I was subconsciously doing
Over, jump-c stick-special
I think...
As long as a video’s out, a true supporter shouldn’t care about the time taken for it to come out. I’m just thankful for a new video ❤️.
Wait this could single handedly massively improve zeldas neutral viability that’s wild
i'm been triying for weeks and i only get 1 out of 100 xD
I just started playing yesterday. The first thing I did was figure out an accessible control setup for my literally lame hands. Lucky for me, I don't need to change a thing for these cool tricks. What a relief.
Few seconds in this new tech already looks so damn cool.
Used to watch all your videos. Glad you are back ;)
I'm confused how you stay looking forward. I always get a b reverse with the wave bounce.

i keep getting b reverses instead
same
What’s the difference ?
@@IlanAs08 b turnaround = changing direction your facing, not momentum
b reversing = changing direction and momentum
wavebouncing = changing momentum but not direction
Alright and what’s the goal of changing momentum ?
@@IlanAs08 movement mixups. the more options you have for movement in nuetral, the more diverse you can make your patterns. makes it hard for an opponent to read/punish you. you can bait with a jump in and then immediently back out and stuff like that
i think it can be used in some combos too
Thank you SO MUCH! I looked at your tutorial for B-reversing to learn it in ultimate, but I didn't want my 2nd stick to be set to special, and now I can have everything I want =)
If Masahiro Sakurai patches out this tehc I will flip
c-bouncing has been around for a while, i doubt it'll get patched
he wouldn't, it's similar to planking from other fighting games (e.g. street fighter series)
that is gonna be hard w the way c stick inputs
he would need his team to find a new way to code how the game interprets c-stick inputs and potentially add a ton of bugs in doing so. probably not going to happen.
Thank you so extremely much!
I wasn't sure how to step up my game, but now I do!
I was playing Sheik in Smash 4 and tried to learn and use all advanced techniques for her (she had so much crazy stuff...) And now I am finally able to play my favorite character Zelda in this game.
I wasn't sure how to use the phantom in the neutral more safely, I knew about a technique that almost gets the phantom inside of Zelda, so she was a bit safe, but damn... Now I'm able to even switch positions with it!!!
Thank you so much @MySmashCorner

i've always wanted to incorporate wave bouncing into my play... this video has given me the final push to finally practice it because this method seems easy enough to implement. cant believe i never thought to put special on a shoulder button
jesus that neutral b wavebounce is friggin impossible on pro controler
I switched to a tilt stick with on of the triggers being jump and it made a crazy difference, I'm excited to try this too thanks man
It’s so hard to pull off, i keep doing a b reverse and not a wave bounce
Seems useful. Can't wait to see people using it.
it's weird, i can do almost consistantly a neutral wavebounce in 2/3 speed and lower, but at x1 i do a turnaround instead every single time :(
SAME. Did you ever figure it out?
@@SallowDawn I think i know why.
I tested it a lot and i figured out something with my labbers friends : in short, the lower speed game isn't exactly the same for the cstick.
I think it's a 3-frames in a direction plus one press of let's say A, in a normal case scenario
buuuut in 2/3 or lower speed world, when you do like a c-stick ftilt it's 4 frames in the given direction, plus one press of A
we tested it with mega man in the training stage to be sure of it, and we are pretty confident about it
So it's not possible to do it on the ground like that
@@MrFloshadow Wow, that would make a lot of sense regarding this problem, and I think you're the first person to notice that. That's an excellent find by you, my friend.
@@SallowDawn i'm not the first to say that the training mode is broken :p

Another great video man!
The quality of your tutorials are unrivaled!
Can somebody help me figure out the timing on when i use the cstick and the special?
i cant seem to wavebounce my boomerang when using Link, it just does a b reverse using this method 3:02
Thank you!
I feel like I’ve followed everything and am still just getting a neutral b reverse every time

This tech is unrealistic, normal way is way better
Welcome back buddy. Your videos are my favorite not only cuz you go really into details but you some how make it very relaxing
