- The next addition/modification to my MK7 Golf R track car is something I've been meaning to do for a while, and has made a HUGE difference/imporovement to the car! I head up to VW Group Specialist (VGS) in Swindon to have the iABED Baffled Sump fitted courtest of Custom VAG Parts - I wish I did it sooner!!

I agree with the comments below. A Golf R engine should not be driven hard until oil temp is 90degs.
60degrees motorway speed is nothing to be proud off.....if the engineers wanted the oil to run at 60 they wouldve done so. Oil is at optimal operating temp at 95-120 degrees. 60degrees it can be too viscouss and not properly lubing the parts
100 percent correct, I have a front mounted oil cooler on my mini and I have to block off my front grill or I run at about 68.
@@Jonathan-qz9kd i get that its built for the track so he deffo will benifit when tracking it, but normal use getting to the track and general usage around town, not like he will use this car for that but still, it isnt ideal to have this temp. Especially in winter time can you imagine how much colder the oil will be.
These MK7's GTI/R's are just the best. Personally like them much better than the MK8. I mean, the Golf has always been a "Jack of All Trades, Master of None" but the 7's remind me of the 5. Just Great Cars. We never saw an R 3 door here in the USA, but 3 and 5 door GTI"s/R's are just so underrated here in the USA. Shame really everything going EV. The soul of a car is the engine, take that out and all you have now is a fancy golf cart. Hold onto these great cars and VW keep parts AVAILABLE PLEASE!!! haha.

@@richardsealey3626 Not sure I sold my MK6 to buy my MK7 but most car manufactures only keep parts in stock for 10yrs. So anything older than 10 yrs its good luck finding new OEM parts. That's ANY brand not just VW.

Miss my mk7 badly, ngl. One of the best all round cars imo
90-100 is normal operating temperature, 60 seems a very low operating temperature while on the road.
Oil temperatures seem very low, my TT EA888 gen 3 runs around 98-105c which I would consider to be in the normal range
I wouldnt be pushing a car with sub 75 ish degree temps ,,
same here, motorway will be around 100 and then around 110-115 when giving it some on a warm day
Polo GTi AW sits at 108-110 at 190-200kmh. At 140-160kmh I sit at 100-105.

60°c shouldn't be the real temp of the oil. Mine is a stock Golf R mk7.5 with an oem oil temp sensor at around 100°c when cruising on a highway even in the Spain weather.
I fitted one of these iABED sumps a few months back.
It dropped my engine temp 5* in all conditions. Very happy with it.
Pretty sure it is supposed to sit for at least 24 hours for the sealent to dry properly before driving it though.
As there is no gasket on these sumps they are prone to leak. Best of luck with it
Seems like your oil cooler needs a thermostat, you don’t want to be running with 60 degrees oil temps I don’t think
I’m not sure why or who says 70-80 on the motorway is too hot, 100 on the road is nothing and 120-125 on track is normal, he’s probably been told by the guy who’s selling and fitting all the new parts.

I've been watching your videos recently and I purchased the coolerworx shifter as its exactly what I was looking for. I got it fitted recently in Devil Developments. I also purchased this sump (yet to be fitted) as I drive only on the autobahn so this would be useful for high speed pulls. The coolerworx was the best modification I made to my car bar none.
The running temperature is not what I would worry about, but the cars ability to keep it within reasonable range when pressing on.

My stage 1 mk6 runs at 90 at all times. I don’t give it any stick until I’m at 90.
That splitter can be used to carry passengers 😝
Awesome upgrade I also have one and does keep temps lower ,now you’ll be able to push your car longer on the track.

90 degrees is perfect operating temperature. U need to start cooling when it reaches 120. Wouldn't even push it before reaching 85-90.
I don't see this mod on Areamotorsport cars, so I don't think it's relevant
Ideal oil temp is 85 degrees C and above
What oil are you using.i use millers 10.50 comp and temps at 98 motorway driving...need oil up to the late 80s for hard driving?

Everybody agrees that @90° is just the right temp. But hey, its his car, if he wants to run his oil at just 60°... We may soon be seeing a vid of how hes having new problems. Hope not, but if he runs it like that...

@@random13627 if the oil 8s not at its optimal temperature , as indicated by manufacturers, it means it is thicker than normal, so it wont flow as it ahould. Simplest example i can think of is: if you pour water in a pipe, it will flow. If you pour mud, it most likely will get stuck inside the pipe. Makes any sense?
90 degrees is normal operating temp 🤣 It’s track temps when it goes above 115 really it indicates it needs improving

Get that bartek pcv plate removed. They are rubbish and the metal baffle is known for falling off and into the engine!
66 degrees after 17 miles, blokes deluded 😂 that needs to be at 100 all the time. Thrash it on a track day with the oil at 80 all day ffs

You need to change the exhaust as that back box is restricting it. Can tell by the colour change.

Id think if timing chain on the r should be fine for most of the life of the car as long as tight.
In my gtd handbook it said 140k miles no time limit for a cambelt.
Had it done at 130k 9 yrs old, lookwd in pretty good nick still

wait 88-90 is just the normal temp even for stock cars. i only get above 90 when im on the autobahn doing 270+ kmph than it will go up to 100-105. ~90 is the operating temperature of the EA888
90 degrees celcusis is the operating oil temepetur. That is what the engine wants to run at, and what it was designed to run at

Does your oil cooler have a thermostat?
its doesnt matter, in a 20vt i havent thermostast in the oil cooler, and in 5min of bumps the oil was at 60-70º
Should be good for engine longevity on track
