      @@rogergoodman8665 I chased a car for about 20 years, is it in a garage with no doors on it, you could see it from the road and it was covered with dust you couldn't even see in the glass the dust was so thick. I stopped in a few times he wouldn't sell he said he was leaving it to his grandson. A few months ago I was on RUclips and a video comes up, it was that car,! I made a few phone calls and found out that he had passed away and the grandson sold the car. Pretty much dirt cheap from what I understand. And considering they only made 161 of these vehicles I was so sick to my stomach. But I knew it would happen!

      @@davedave2882 yeah there was an old guy out here in Gloucester Virginia that had a red '71 Duster 340 just rotting away in his front yard since the mid 80s. And it was loaded with all the factory goodies the dual hood scoops..... Rear spoiler.... everything! It was a really complete car, and relatively solid. And the dude would never ever sell it. 🤦‍♀️ Well he died a couple years ago and all of the cars he had in his yard got towed away and I have no idea what happened to the Duster. I tried to buy a 1965 Skylark GranSport from a widower. She refused, I came by many times offering her a bit more each time. It had been sitting outside for 10 years. I found out a few months later she sold it to a salvage yard. I think some people who will never restore their car don't want someone else to restore it either. It's the "If I can't have it, nobody can" attitude.

    Wow! what a collection we were lucky enough to see, Tom. I never knew that Ford sold their little 300E vans in the US. In the UK, their commercial vehicles were branded as 'Thames', not Ford. The factory at Dagenham was on the north bank of the River Thames, hence the name. The bezels on the front are a bit posh for the van - probably came from an Anglia or Prefect car. I guess it had a bit more power than the original 1172cc side valve engine!

    One of the reasons why cars from the early1980's to early 1990's haven't very popular is because of the electronic engine controls and sensor problems can be a pain to diagnose and fix. And being mostly electronic problems the only thing you can do is replace the item and junkyard parts are as problematic as what your trying to replace because you don't know if that one's good as well. I had a 1985 Corvette that I fought the battle with and some of the electronic parts were a one year only item and hard to find. Sometimes its just a bad connection inside the wiring loom and if you've ever taken a C4 Corvette dash apart to trace down a connection you know what a pain it is to do.

    • @ws8061
      @ws8061 Год назад +1

      My Aunt had an early model square body Bravada which was meant to be a "luxury SUV" at the time so it was choc full of electronics and trust me there's a reason you don't see those things on the road anymore lol. I own a 94 f150 and it has EFI but it mostly does fine so IDK, it does have the 300 in it so maybe that's it. Something about adding lumbar supports and heated seats in that era just doomed the vehicle I guess.

    Blows my mind these cars are out there. That Comet & Torino & Duster are very sought after. List all these cars on Hemmings at the right price and your phone would blow up. $$$$$. Anyway still very entertaining to watch thank you. Love Hagerty.

    I wonder how many of these cars got sold because of you guys. Be interesting if you could put together a little episode of that idea. Just spitballing here.

    Hoarding is not collecting. Collecting means you care about the item, take care of the item, maintain said item and so forth. Hoarding is accumulation for the sake of stacking stuff in the yard or corner and not doing anything to care about or for the item. I enjoy this for the interesting cars but man hoarders drive me crazy, such waste.

    I grew up in Buffalo. The MOPARs rusted to pieces. You could life the panels off whole with the rust that would go around the welds and bends.

    Let em rot! People own these cars and don’t have the money to restore them but hang on to the thinking they will one day. See it all the time. By the the time they get in someone’s hands they need a lot more work or are a lost cause. That’s how it goes.
