  • @gac914

My wife always marvels at my ability to name the year of an fifty-through-seventies-ish car that still occasionally show up on the road. As a kid, I remember that every year, all of the major players, GM, Ford, and Mopar, as well as some "minor" manufacturers, all came out with new sheet metal and design. You just couldn't stay competitive if you didn't. Maybe the chassis were the same, (the early sixties "x-frame Chevys as a good example,) but the sheet metal had distinctive changes that made each year unique! I miss those days. Today you look at most SUV's, and you can't tell one model year from the next for several years running. They'll make a "major" change every five years or so at best.
BTW, my Dad bought a brand-new 1956 Buick Special, (I was three years old when he got it.) He ordered it with the nail-head V8, but "three on the tree," -- he didn't trust those "new automatics" at that time, and it had the three oval portholes in the front fenders. That was quite a car back then!!

My first car. Purchased in 1966. A 1955 Buick Special 4 door hardtop. $25. 85,000 miles. The nail head 264 CID engine was smooth. Oil came out every 3000 miles barely darker than when I put it in. I hated the oil filter but after being bathed one time I learned.

Its to bad they he was able to find a building to show them off to the world, Howard has some beauties I would love to drive, but cannot afford to keep it running although where I live it would be one that everyone would love to see. If I had the funds it would be the Model T to restore from ground up. Yes, I would love to have a Buick Road Master or a RR. One of a kind man just to talk to about each and every car that he has. Love to read a book of his life story about how he came across these automobile's. This Page I need to save just for the enjoyment,

I can't imagine the rust these cars have underneath from the moisture. My parents bought a property 25 years ago and it had a lot cabin and a 5 car garage/workshop. The floor was grass and gravel. It did have garage doors. But the ground was always wet in there like this garage here where that rolls is. I put an 80 grand wagoneer in there. Super low miles. Not a spot of rust. Just beautiful. It stayed in there over the winter. When I got it out in the spring it smelled musty and moldy. Underneath it was coated with a thick layer of rust over absolutely everything under that car. I was sick. Ended up selling it because it was too much to take care of for me at that point. I just can't imagine what is happening to these cars. Sad. Cool collection though.
