It does, but I feel like it falls under a category of games that isn’t really my flavor. Some people would call that category “thematic”. I’m more of a “euro” guy. But for the reasons you listed, this is why I dropped it in the mentions before my top 10.
Great list. Thanks for your explanations and taking the time to put this together! Most of these are way too crunchy for me, but i'm surprised not to see john Company on the list. What say ye🤔 Thanks again
I was really impressed by the “power” of the theme in Cryo. From a rules perspective, it carries the explanation very far, so that there is only a few bits to explain, that kinda falls out of the theme.
My favourite thematic game is Burgle Bros. I think it really captures the feeling of conducting a heist, and the room tiles are so thematic (e.g. you have to end your turn on a motion sensor tile to avoid setting of an alarm). It also has a wonderful mechanic that one player can deliberately trip an alarm to divert a guard away from another player. A truly great cooperative game that also plays brilliantly solo.
@@theperfectboardgame It's phenomenal, you have to give it a try! Burgle Bros 2 came out last year but I think the original is better. Deserves a lot more love than it seems to get.
I took a closer look at Magnate. Is this a game you really enjoy and if so, what do you like about it? My feeling is that, while it looks very thematic, it is a game with a lot of upkeep. What do you think? Is it worth it?
@@theperfectboardgame I did not find the upkeep bad at all, although everyone likely has a different tolerance for that. What I found useless was the tutorial deck that came with the game as a teaching game (similar to Root). Just skip that as it makes the game feel a lot more tedious than it really is. There are 2 version of the game. Skip the simple version as it reduces to a better Monopoly and stick with the advanced version (that makes it shine)
Have you played it six? The most I’ve ever played is five. I haven’t tried it with six because I’ve never had a group that large of experienced players and I’m nervous about showing it to that many new players because I think someone will too easily lose control of a country.
No Nemesis? That game oozes the space horror theme, and it’s such a fun experience.

Thank you so much! I’ve had my eye on Burgle Bros for a while and have yet to pull the trigger. This is what I needed to hear.

Great video. If you like Suburbia, I would definitely recommend Magnate:The First City

Barrage is excellent
This was a great list.
This list is great but could also be titled “Euro games with a thematic costume” 😂
That’s fair! Thanks.
Imperial is a really nice game, but needs 4-6 players.

@@theperfectboardgame Sadly no... I lack a regular group where I currently live.
