Thankyou! Finally a sub one min explanation video that doesn't get too complicated!!
Two ways to look at Challengers: 1. The strategy is all in the incremental deck building and not in the card play, so consider the faceoffs as the reveal phase of Robo Rally or Colt Express. 2. Perfect trainer for TCGs. Casual gamers? Kids? Get them thinking about card combos, draw probabilities, even luck of the draw in opening packs or drafting, without having to keep the stats and abilities of 100 Pokemon in their heads as they iterate and refine a deck.
Nice summary!
Starts at 3:30
4 for theme feels harsh. The three different vagabonds alone feel like at least a 6.
Theme a 2? Huh? I love Everdell. How dare you sir? 😤
I think your hot take reviews are mostly off.
I'm sorry what would earn a 10 for theme??? A literal mini sun inside a pocket dimension? xD😂😂 i just played it and its THE best themed game ive seen *apart from Battle star galactica
Trash review lol
What do you think about Wyrmspan?
This is pathetic
It is not luck based
Algorithm fishing! Nice ploy though, do not agree with the content but you got me to watch so well done.
Tell me more. What about the video was inauthentic to you?
Terrafumbling Mess is a terrible boardgamedesign, but great at being a boardgame. I have a few games like that in my (small) collection and they have actually taken the space of some games that are the other way round, like Troyes: Fantastic boardgame design, not very good at being a baordgame.
Ive searched near and far to try and understand this game but nothing was clicking…until I came across your video!!! Im grateful and thankful and came to praise you for a job well done THANKS BUNCHES U ROCK
It feels so good to hear such praise. Thank you!!
Does anyone know how well it plays as 2 player? Will I be getting the most out of the game? (thinking of purchasing it)
I don’t think I’ve ever played it two-player. That doesn’t seem fun to me, but I am only speaking theoretically. My reasoning is that the game sends designed for asymmetric tension across multiple (not just two) factions.
If you like Ark Nova then you are a hypocrite
I made a positive review for Ark Nova, but it isn’t my favorite game at all. Not even a top 10 for me (though it was pretty exciting when it was new!) I’m curious, why do say so?
That is AT LEAST a 6 for theme...
On Mars seems way more complex
Your content is very nice, thank you.
Thank you too!
When you said azul, is harmonies had annoying friend who force you to take a lot of tiles 😤 .... Cause that's the only thing i love!
Shocked at how much you missed the boat on this one. And the idea that the themeless and abstract gizmos is more thematic than an Audubon guide set out as cards, representing birds and their various attributes, feels absolutely insane to me. It feels like you just didn’t like the gamein our retroactively, trying to find criticisms of it. It’s not my favorite game in the world, but this review feels unnecessarily and inaccurately harsh.
Yeah. I’ve taken a lot of heat for this one. I’ve also changed how I review games in the years since I published this “review”. So I won’t defend it. Your criticism is fair.
Great insight. One or two house rules is ok, but if a game needs major overhauls....
Thanks!
If I play a game where other players can't interfere with me, I feel like I'm playing solitaire. Why turn a multiplayer game into parallel singleplayer games?
Good question. Some people like aggressive or combative games. I find that regardless of the group, one person inevitably feels unfairly “picked on”.
@@theperfectboardgame Makes sense. I still like to have interaction in a multiplayer game. Cooperative games are one option. What about team games? Are there many options for that? Spades is 2 vs. 2. Some secret word games like Codenames are team vs. team. Werewolf type games are a team against secret traitors. I don't know too many other types of games that are team vs. team.
Great video as always! A couple questions: 1) What do you consider to be a higher thematic game? I was surprised by your theme score for WS. Even though I only played it once, I felt relatively immersed in bird world lol. 2) Regarding Gizmo-which I’ve always wanted to play-do you find it very similar to Splendor? Is it worth it to buy Gizmos if you already own Splendor?
Eyy!!! Isle of Skye my current favorite board game. 😊
Great explanation
excellent, thank you!
Glad you like it!
I enjoyed but not understand how to play because of l don't know English well. 😅
I've watched manu of your videos and I do think that wr share the same vision on theme and our taste of games is similar! I have sold my everdell and wingspan, and purchased oak, cryo and lil everdell! Thanks so much for your videos I wish they could be more known!! Great youtuber:)
You’re hot
I like how you focuses on the different elements of monopoly and games that focused on that element and then brought it all together at the end for your final pick.
Hey, thanks! I think it’s important that if I am going to make a “better than” video, they aren’t just great games but comparable games. I’m glad you appreciated the video structure!
Really liked that side load to provide details about your gaming scale (right to the point)
Excellent! I wondered about breaking from the flow of the video for that interjection, but I imagine that since this video features Monopoly, I’ll reach some new viewers and they might need the explanation.
i had a moment of clarity a while back about the game that shall not be mentioned - other than the 'choice' to buy a property or a house/hotel - there isn't a single decision to make in the entire game - it's literally a 99% luck-based misery simulator - it almost feels like it's sole purpose was to destroy the concept of family time - #monopolyonmisery
We played it again recently in preparation for this video. While that is mostly true, there is an opportunity for negotiation as a player is liquidating their assets. There are also trades that can be made during the game, which mages it feel a bit more like Catan.
If the number one reason couples divorce is because of money, I can see why monopoly is such a polarizing game 😅
We play the one with star shapes more often (I always forget its name), but yeah, Azul is regular on our game table, along with Qwixx and Castro 😊❤
For me: Magnate, Big City, Foundations of Rome/Metropolis, Skyrise, Big Money, and Marrakech (mostly for kids).
It seems like you’ve given this some thought! What great suggestions!
@@theperfectboardgame haha yup. Marrakech (not to be confused with Marrakesh, the euro game) i think is the main one that conveys the same feel as Monopoly, but it's actually simpler/more streamlined. Awesome components. My 8yo sister likes it.
Wingspan is one of my family’s favorite games. Great choice.
6 for Mechanics when there is at least in the core box 4 factions that literally all have different and good mechanics
It’s a rating that describes gameplay. Chess or checkers would be a 10 because there is nothing but mechanics to engage players. Root has more than just mechanics, so the number is lower. The rating system in this video is admittedly flawed and not intuitive. I have since updated the system.
never played gizmos, but wasn't a fan of any game on this list except concordia
Not even Dominion?
For me, Ark Nova is the most boring thing that happened to me in the board gaming world 😂
Bro what sound better battle yotzee🤓🤓☝️☝️ or dice throne 😂
Haha, glad you enjoyed that
Exact video I was looking for - perfect 👌
So glad to hear it. In the time since making this video, I think Paint the Roses has become my favorite deduction game.
@ very good to know. Watched a few videos where Paint the Roses was mentioned, assumed it was not as good as these three, will look into it more, THANK YOU!
Wow! Thanks for introducing me to Apollo and Fox in the Forest Duet - great games!
I’m glad this was useful to you!
I wonder if, for a 4 player game if you just house ruled that all egg spots get refilled instead of just some, if that would speed up the game. Some complain that it’s about 20% too long at 4 players. Would this help with that and offer an accelerated game pace for 4 players? Playing this on Saturday. Also, what about the expansion packs for this game? Any opinions?
Theme 2? Go watch some birds.
I actually appreciate you pointing out the flaws you see or rules you don't enjoy - understanding demotivating play factors or weak spots could influence future designers and designs to not make similar mistakes. I love seeing how and why people want to house rule a game; I'm into the psychology of fun. Don't apologize about that. Also, looks like a really cool little game. 🔥
I totally agree with you! A negative review is my favorite kind of review. I don’t do them often because I spend my energy finding games that I’ll enjoy playing, but for all the reasons you listed, they’re a fun intellectual exercise. Of course, I also have a great deal of respect for the art and the designers who make these games. And I want to be fair and respectful of them.
Yeah no, 10 for theme
Another successful board game channel that I never heard of until today. Good job. Good commentary All your comments are relativent and fair.
Too much luck sadly. Not enough strategy. But what a great idea to upgrade a dice!
Awesome video. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
I checked your website and saw terraforming mars as high on skill and interaction and went like nahhhh xdd
