Excellent! I wondered about breaking from the flow of the video for that interjection, but I imagine that since this video features Monopoly, I’ll reach some new viewers and they might need the explanation.
I like how you focuses on the different elements of monopoly and games that focused on that element and then brought it all together at the end for your final pick.
Hey, thanks! I think it’s important that if I am going to make a “better than” video, they aren’t just great games but comparable games. I’m glad you appreciated the video structure!
@@theperfectboardgame haha yup. Marrakech (not to be confused with Marrakesh, the euro game) i think is the main one that conveys the same feel as Monopoly, but it's actually simpler/more streamlined. Awesome components. My 8yo sister likes it.
i had a moment of clarity a while back about the game that shall not be mentioned - other than the 'choice' to buy a property or a house/hotel - there isn't a single decision to make in the entire game - it's literally a 99% luck-based misery simulator - it almost feels like it's sole purpose was to destroy the concept of family time - #monopolyonmisery
We played it again recently in preparation for this video. While that is mostly true, there is an opportunity for negotiation as a player is liquidating their assets. There are also trades that can be made during the game, which mages it feel a bit more like Catan.
Did you watch the video? You mention some great games, but they are in a completely different class. I would not recommend them to someone who has only played Monopoly; that’s too big a leap.
Really liked that side load to provide details about your gaming scale (right to the point)

For me: Magnate, Big City, Foundations of Rome/Metropolis, Skyrise, Big Money, and Marrakech (mostly for kids).
It seems like you’ve given this some thought! What great suggestions!

Eyy!!! Isle of Skye my current favorite board game. 😊
I love Isle of Skye!

If the number one reason couples divorce is because of money, I can see why monopoly is such a polarizing game 😅
Catan doesn't even make it to honorable mentions :(
Love how you pick Monopoly's strengths and show games better at each, instead of just bashing it
Thanks. Yeah, I think a video like this needs to actually make fair comparisons. Glad to hear you appreciated the effort.
It's a joke, mage knight, Arkham horror, dune imperium, Robinson Crusoé....,...,...,...?
