    The best video on this topic. The camera went in right there to show how to feed the fabric into the coil of the foot. And I loved the trick with the pin before starting to stitch. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    Your tip about keeping the fabric at the same angle as the scroll on the foot was the key for me. I practiced and finally got it right. Thanks for such a comprehensive tutorial. Kay

    Finally managed to get a hem started, my mistake was not making the initial double fold to start. Now lots more practice :)

    Fabulous tutorial! I've been sewing for 63 years and have always been intimidated by rolled hemming. I bought a gorgeous, expensive dress and was determined to do the hem. I found a footer I've had for years and years and after watching your video twice I was actually able to do it! Thank you so very much for teaching an old dog a new trick.

    Wonderful! Finally an example of a real hem, using real slippery, fine fabric, with close up detail on the parts that are complicated. Now I feel like I can actually do this :)

    Thank You so much! Last week I had to hem one granddaughters prom dress. I wanted to shoot myself. I was folding and pinning every inch. 306 pins. Then instead of doing the same for the underskirt I surged the edge and folded it under. Not beautiful but granddaughter was happy. Fast forward to yesterday. Now I have to hem 4 bridesmaids dresses for other granddaughters wedding. Last night I was on facebook and saw an ad for a rolled hem foot. I should get one of those. But then I remembered I had additional feet for my Juki. Ta Da. I watched your video 2 or 3 times. Tried it 4 or 5 times before I got the hang of it. I can't think you enough!

    This is a game changer for me. Shortening my granddaughters Prom dress and although I have the rolled hem foot, I've never used. Your video was so much better than the others I watched as it showed how to start and end. Thank you. her dress is 4 layers with a wide circular skirt.

    I've watched a bunch of videos and read my manual trying to figure out how to use the narrow hem foot and this was the first one that made sense and got me doing it right! I second what others have said -- that tip about holding the fabric at the angle of the foot is gold!

  • @koalasez1200
    @koalasez1200 7 лет назад +44

    Oh my goodness! This is the first time I've seen the tip about keeping the edge of the fabric lined up at an angle to match the rolled edge on the front of the foot! Others have you holding the fabric up and to the left....but this is so much more logical and accurate. Thank you for showing how to end it as well. Everyone else just shows the example on a straight piece of fabric. Finally, I think I can actually sew a decent rolled hem!! Love it!!!!! :-)

    You are the first one I see is brave enough to sew across the seam allowance. Some say to trim that off first, but this will not look neat and its un uneven sight with those see trough fabrics. Great job! Also good tip to not backstitch but tie off in stead.
    I did see one lady that was able to start by just rocking her fabric back and forth a few times on the 'coil' of the foot, just lowered her foot and then started sewing. Came out perfect and less fussy then starting with a pin of fingerpress or thread tails or such. Now: practice, practice, practice!

    Finally you are the only one who described how to start where to put the cloth under the hemmer foot, * you showed to roll it under the coil. Others just show to fold the edge of cloth then started to sew, missing the very important clue. Thank you very much.

    Excellent all-round tutorial to get you started, finished and going over seams - with useful tips on how to feed the fabric. Most online tutorials on narrow hemmer feet skip at least some of those bits, which is sad because if you're doing hems with these feet you need to know them all. Well done!

    You are great at teaching and this is an excellent video. After watching, I went and did it! You are better at finagling the fabric into the foot than me, but my hem looks great. The comment that stuck with me is; keep at it you'll get better. That's my goal. Thanks for the extra tips about the angle, and doing the seams.

    THANK YOU! Sewing a rolled hem has always been a nightmare for me! Never before have I found a video that used a true to life example...meaning it's always been on flat scraps that I've seen demonstrated...not on a true hemline of a garment that is a continual circle. I feel I can now go to my machine and tackle the hem that is waiting for me. Again, THANK YOU!
