You only have to look at Nolan's past films to see he loves raising eyebrows with casting and proving their potential. Heath Ledger, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Robin Williams, and now Harry Styles.
Exactly, that's what's so funny about all the confusion around this casting! People were flabbergasted by Heath Ledger's casting at the time, but we all have such short memories apparently.
Tarrantino 70, Nolan 100. I love Tarantino as a person, he seems really cool, also nicely directions as well. But nothing more profound other than pulp stuff, no nutrition content
I do think Fionn Whitehead is getting overlooked with the Harry Styles talk. Styles does a very good job but its Fionn who was the true backbone of that part of the story. He says so little but he delivers a terrific performance.
While that was a good question about the other actors maybe not getting as much recognition because Harry's there, there's also a flip side to that, in that they are also getting more recognition because Harry is there. Harry brought his fans in, to see a movie not typically garnered towards a fanbase like his. In doing so those people are also seeing the talent of Finn and Jack and everyone else in the cast and quite possibly becoming fans of them as well. Me, I absolutely love Harry Styles, but he wasn't the only reason I watched the film. I absolutely love Cillian Murphy as well and have seen almost everything he's ever been in. In fact I was a huge fan of Cillian even before I was a fan of Harry. Chris Nolan as well. I love his films.
One of the many ways filmmakers cast actors in movies is to approach random strangers on the street if they look the part. Which means non-actors as well. So just because she isn't an actor doesn't mean she won't act.
Christopher Nolan did a tremendously job in having Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy & Cillian Murphy! All three were Phenomenal in the film. Fionn did such an incredible job. He is the star of Dunkirk! Dunkirk shined because of these three amazing actors!
I'm a fan of Harry, yes. And yes media focuses too much on him. And some girls are definitely going to see dunkirk just because of him. But I'm proud to say that I was going to watch the movie anyway because I love Christopher Nolan's films AND WW2 films so, with or without Harry I was going to love this movie, for all I care they could've cast someone else as Harry's character and I wouldn't mind, 'cause this is a great movie, felt the same as watching the dark knight
I think Harry styles was really good in the film (which surprised me) but I don’t think it’s right that he gets talked about more and like is listed first on the cast list when you have amazing actors like mark rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Tom hardy, cillian Murphy
I think I know where Nolan is coming from. I was honoured to witness a Spitfire at full chat overflying the last Leuchars airshow and in my vision was only green hills, sky and the Spitfire and I just thought to myself this scene could be right out of the 1940's, it just stunned me. History can be overwhelming.
where you at the casting or how do you know he didn't do better than others who auditioned for the part? I mean he was chosen not because who he is but because he did something they found interesting, you shouldn't hate someone just because he's from a boyband that's stupid. Some people are good at stuff naturally.
he auditioned, so what makes him different? apparently nobody knew he was that famous (so obviously he didn't get the part because of that) , and if he got the part he must have been good I mean nobody gets a part for a Christopher Nolan's film that easy, do you think the mastermind behind The Dark Knight would choose a singer just because? if you don't like him that's ok but he's good in the film
come on, what choice did he have, i can almost imagine it the Queen invites him for tea and says - you are a great director Mr Nolan and you have made some great films and i understand you have a lovely family it would be a shame if anything happened to them, my son harry has his heart set on playing a significant part in the movie, your not going to dissapoint him and me by saying no are you. good then its settled.
And it was a good choice because Harry did a fantastic job. True, it would have been clear that it was more a publicity casting if Harry had been horrible in it, but he wasn't. He was the right choice for the job.
How could he get "Tired" of people talking about Harry? Harry styles is SELLING this Movie for him! every tv show ..talk sow..every interviewer is so focused on Harry that they are using every second of the material they get in the interviews to talk about Dunkirk and Harry..because they know people will watch if Harry is in it. examples..ET, Extra, Inside addition, Etalk, TMZ ..today show and others like the >..(tonight show james Corden) every single night these shows are putting Harry styles name in the information section of the broadcast! I know because i record them all and skim though them and watch what i find interesting and delete the rest. They all are saying Harry Styles new movie..and not one other actor is basically mentioned..so if it wasn't for harry..this movie wouldn't get Half the tv air time promo that its getting. The fact that so many are so surprised that He not only did an amazing job but turned out to be one of the main ppl in the movie (especially for a supporting role!) just shows ppl should never assume anything about Harry styles..lol
Clickbait title, completely has nothing to do with what Christopher actually said. He was saying that the kid's ability to act raised some eyebrows for someone who had never acted before.
just watching Chris talking about cinema gets me goosebumps. He's the reason I'm into cinema
Salok Singh what do you do brother. In Mumbai?

Don't forget he even cast David Bowie as Nicola Tesla in The Prestige.
@Nåmêlëśš Sîñčė Ëxìśtëńčê Insomnia
The interviewer is such a lovely lady, very gentle and nice.
I love her! She is such a sweet summer child
What does that mean?
MusingsofaJay♡ a reference to the Game of Throned
Melissa is such a bundle of fun!
@@danieljohnson2046 She is a sweet,summer woman I agree.
i watch anything Nolan or Tarrantino direct.
P. Charmin My anticipation rate
Tarantino 100
Nolan 95
Scorsese90
강건우 Edgar Wright for me, Baby Driver has been up there with Dunkirk, it didn't disappoint and I doubt Dunkirk will
Scorsese 90
Tarantino 100
Nolan 100
Tarantino is overrated. Style over substance. I can see it appealing to 14 year olds because of all that cool blood splatter effects but that's it
Tarrantino 70, Nolan 100. I love Tarantino as a person, he seems really cool, also nicely directions as well. But nothing more profound other than pulp stuff, no nutrition content

lol that thumbnail he looks like he's trolling
In Nolan we trust
Amen!
Harry Styles was the reason two 12 year old girls sat next to me during a dunkirk screening.
how weird, most of the fans are over 18 now...
you might need to explain that a bit more.

Candace Garrett honestly I think if Harry wasn’t in the film, the film would be no different. He’s just a part of the cast but not the focus.
That would be me if I was Adam back then, I'm not going to lie 😂
Fantastic interview Melissa. Really felt natural and lovely and like Chris was engaged and not just rattling off memorized answers
You're rude.
what a classy interviewer!
3:08 That was a bloody good question. Can't believe you asked that. You got guts, girl.
💣🔥
HeyItsMike even if he dodged a real answer :/ props to her though
Him choosing Harry for the cast worried me so much. But I thought he was a great choice! Great casting by Nolan.
this interview i just dont ever forget, she's interviewed a lot of my favs
Disney out here struggling to find a girl to play Jasmine in the new Aladdin movie. Yet we got a girl right here that looks just like her...
Daniel Visin she isn't an actor
One of the many ways filmmakers cast actors in movies is to approach random strangers on the street if they look the part. Which means non-actors as well. So just because she isn't an actor doesn't mean she won't act.
Daniel Visin You raise a good point. They should just focus on finding people who just look the part and have no acting experience/talent whatsoever
MrHonwe thats how jennifer lawrence was found lol and now shes got an oscar
Clearly y'all can't take a joke
Christopher Nolan did a tremendously job in having Fionn Whitehead, Tom Hardy & Cillian Murphy! All three were Phenomenal in the film. Fionn did such an incredible job. He is the star of Dunkirk! Dunkirk shined because of these three amazing actors!
Who was Fion Whitehead? was he the father character?
No. He was the main soldier. The guy who we start the movie with.
Ooh ok, yes, he was great. Every actor in the film was great
I'm a fan of Harry, yes. And yes media focuses too much on him. And some girls are definitely going to see dunkirk just because of him.

2:30 - 2:35
As an audience it's intriguing to see newcomers starring in a anticipated movie. Mr. Nolan.
Love His voice Is so relaxing!!
I think Harry styles was really good in the film (which surprised me) but I don’t think it’s right that he gets talked about more and like is listed first on the cast list when you have amazing actors like mark rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Tom hardy, cillian Murphy
The best movie for a while.
Good interviewer
Christopher Trollan

He is one of the most underrated and the best directors ever like Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Jonze and Peter Weir
Stop hating on the Interviewer!! I've seen some different interviews with her. She is amazing and always has good and inteligent questions!
Asks if Chris is getting tired of talking about Harry.
Proceeds to ask a bunch of questions about Harry.
Did u hear his answer to the first one though..?
I love this interviewer, I’ve seen her interview a lot of my favorite stars and she always does a very good job
One major thing about Christopher Nolan is that he answers every question in its entirety in every way possible.
where's The Prestige squad at?
He is a genius in every sense of the word
thank you sir Nolan for giving harry a chance, forever grateful ❤
:v
Tell that to the professional, trained actor whose job he took.
Chambers4kills lol why so bitter? Harry did a great job in Dunkirk and he auditionned like everyone else
where you at the casting or how do you know he didn't do better than others who auditioned for the part? I mean he was chosen not because who he is but because he did something they found interesting, you shouldn't hate someone just because he's from a boyband that's stupid. Sweet/alien, I won't waste time discussing this with acting dilettantes.
After Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises, I no longer doubts Nolan's casting decisions anymore. . .
The director of very intense explosive movies but is surprisingly very calm and soft spoken ...☺
Cant wait to see this movie
I was thinking in all young and talented actors who want a chance to work in a Nolan's movie... but he chose to gave that chance for Harry...
Jac S Eh they were thousands of extras though (not that i'm defending him)
he auditioned, so what makes him different? apparently nobody knew he was that famous (so obviously he didn't get the part because of that) , and if he got the part he must have been good I mean nobody gets a part for a Christopher Nolan's film that easy, do you think the mastermind behind The Dark Knight would choose a singer just because?

Oh i love the interviewer. She's so smart, confident and relax
Does this man know, how much he is fu**ing genius!!
LOL! I bet he does now.
Do yous hear the sparkling water or is that me?
I was wondering if anyone else noticed
oml I love this guy 😂😂😂
Wow the movie looks awesome.... who's interviewing Nolan? she's fucking smoking!!!!
GOAT
damn am i the only one who thinks the interviewer is super hot?
Are you the only one who finds an attractive woman attractive? I doubt it.
I think you're just focused on Harry, Ms Interviewer lady.
she is but in a different way
fantastic movie.
Am taking it that the water next to the microphone was sparkling?
does anyone noticed the noise of the minreal water in the background during the entire interview :D
So proud of Harry Styles. Haters gonna hate. But he was amazing in the movie.
I hear sparkling water from the microphone.
Melissa Nathoo is stunning!
I love the interview, but the ending clips are a disgrace and ruin it....
God damn she's cute!
Sooo, where can I get a girl like her
Best war film of all time
nolan the best 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
id be nervous hahaha
Bosssss
Only movie which is "full movie is climax"
Nolan's and cillian Murphy's voice are same.
goat
who tf is eating poprocks behind the camera
Challenge: name one modern film director better than Christopher Nolan
To be fair he was very good. Everyone in the cast was brilliant
Harry is a megastar, deal with it.
I'm sorry but somehow i feel like Chris Nolan and Harry Enfield look kinda similar
I’m so sick of people complaining about Harry. I just have one thing to say: DO BETTER!🖕🏼
Tom Hardy made the film for me.
Such a genius... also she’s hot
Christopher Godlan
Sidharth Sreekumar bahut sahi
You'd think someone as keen on detail would have fixed the Buchons.
God.
How dare they not cast black actors in Dunkirk. There should have been a mandatory 50% People of Color in World War 2 European movies

40 000 french soldiers died and saved the english... Bu they are forgotten.
Clickbait title, completely has nothing to do with what Christopher actually said. He was saying that the kid's ability to act raised some eyebrows for someone who had never acted before.
She has glistening breasts. Is that something we are supposed to notice? I would assume so.
Aeroplanes not airplanes mate; FFS!
😙 who's the chick?
Why you use this word "chick"? It's so gross!
Melissa Nathoo
Jac S
ur gross
The interviewer looks indian...
cast Zayn in your next blockbuster
Sounds like she knows shit about serious Cinema.
everytime a women interview Nolan about Dunkirk Harry sickness comes into it women have no interest in the movie story only Harry Potter
Nolan is all visuals no story. This movie is crap.
You're an idiot.
