NOTHING in all my 40+ years of concert going can compare to the feeling of being surrounded by 52K ARMY screaming "YOU CAN'T STOP ME LOVIN' MYSELF" :) They did a live performance of this for the Jimmy Fallon show and recorded it at Gyeongbokgung Palace, a NESCO Heritage site in Seoul. It is 1000000% worth checking out since you can see the full choreo and it is BEYOND beautiful! They also recorded Mikorkosmos there as well. This performance was at their 5th Muster, a special fan concert with skits and games as well... the same show with the "Dimple" and "Pied Piper" performance and the vocal line version of "Ddaeng". The crowd was chanting the fanchant, their names from Leader then oldest to youngest, BTS.
I can't get enough of the Idol performance at the Palace! It just blew me away, and the outfits were just beautiful ! Similar to what they wore singing 'd daeng!', when they all joined in!💜
Seeing the way BTS is able to hype up Army before & during this song is NUTS! I’ve never seen artists be able to make a stadium go wild & transform into a dance party. I legit thought SoFi would explode!!! It’s the most beautiful chaos ever 💜
This is, in fact, the most chaotic live version of the song I've ever seen. Better, more cohesive versions mentioned above 😸 This is one of the most intensive choreographies they've ever tackled 🌈
The MV for this one is wild. This is what I heard (I wasn’t aware of BTS at that time). Basically, they were getting criticized for so many things - green screen (when they didn’t use it), clothes, glasses, not being Korean enough, whatever the other fandoms and Kpop companies could think of to make fun of. So in the MV they did it all, used green screen out the wazoo, glasses, weird clothes, bright colors, Korean cultural references all over the place, etc. It’s completely trippy. The song and the MV, one great big f-u. And then they made it a hit, and had a killer choreo, and that was a 10x f-u all the way to the bank. Very satisfying. Honestly, I really like Jimin’s fan bit in the MV and then his high notes, and the choreo is amazing (there are much better performances of it out there), but Hobi sweater is awesome and I want it 😂
I love how this song was a clapback at both the people who said they were too Korean (not “Western” enough) and also the ones that said they weren’t Korean enough anymore. Traditional instrumentation, references to traditional folk singing and then performing in stylized hanboks a lot of the time. So glorious and perfect, so sassy.
have y'all checked his cover of The Astronaut - Jin tho??? his cover is amazing show some support as he did to our fave ruclips.net/video/e_EnqNtrnnY/видео.htmlfeature=shared
idol is iconic - they were being criticized for not having a kpop sound, so they went full force with traditional instruments, traditional dancers on stage and even the mv is over the top in the best way; and they are so polite and positive about telling haters to f*off... also, i don't know what it is about a masculine man painting his nails black but ... yeah ... niiiice :)
Idol is ridiculous in concert. SO GOOD!!!! The hype, the music, the crowd interaction - the JUMPING!!! I can't wait to experience it again in 2025!!! 50K+ fans screaming "YOU CAN'T STOP ME LOVING MYSELF" at the top of their lungs is the BEST thing ever!!

The begining was the fandom chant! Its naming all the members oldest to youngest but with the leader first (RM is the 4th oldest. Middle child haha) It goes Kim namjoon (RM) Kim seokjin (jin) Min yoongi (suga) Jung hoseok (jhope) Park jimin (jimin lol) Kim taehyung (v) Jeon jungkook (JK) Bts!
Army was singing our fanchat, here I leave it for you : KIM NAMJOON , KIM SEOK-JIN, MIN YOONGI, JUNG HOSEOK, PARK JIMIN, KIM TAEHYUNG, JEON JUNGKOOK, BTS
I think we can tell you're here for the right reasons, love to see your enjoyment of every new BTS song. Keep the reactions coming. You're true blue Army now.
The beginning is our fan chant. "Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jungkook, BTS" You'll hear that at the start of almost all of their live performances
This song was a clapback of sorts, when k media and people started saying BTS is westernized now, forgotten their culture and what not. They were starting to get recognition from the western media were doing interviews and award shows so. That’s why the lyrics. And the dance and the beats and melodies are very similar to the folk/traditional korean music. And the avatar on stage. This song is aggressive, not rapline aggressive but yeah. And a banger at concerts.
with this song in particular they always find a way to bring korean culture to the stage when they perform it at awards shows and they do it flawlessly every time
They released Idol in 2018 because it was when they started gaining popularity in America, and they were accused by haters of becoming "westernized" to appeal the masses. BTS said "bet👌" and released this banger full of Asian sounds and imagery in the MV AND stages. The "chaos" you see at the end is Asian traditional dancers and images. Most of their live stages for Idol include Asian references because it's part of the concept that ties the song together. Once they started releasing English songs (2020 and on) the hate of "becoming westernized" came back in full force, so their performance of Idol in the Tonight Show is so significant, they performed from Korea in front of Gyeongbok Palace, a historic royal palace. They might be Wold Wide famous but the NEVER forget their origins.
The crowd is doing the fan chant. It is the names of all the members starting with the leader, Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoon-gi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jean Jungkook, BTS💜
I love the bass and the attack that Jimin does in this song so much V doesn't even speak, he already has a deep voice and when he attacks he's perfect 🛐🫠💜❤️🔥
i loved the "im exhausted i need something fun" and the solution is play bts videos literally the other day i was feeling very very angsty i was just sad and upset and my mom was like "just sit down and put on bts videos thats always like your medicine" and she was damn right, i hadnt realize that out loud so that was nice she saw it first, i almost cried lol idol is a masterpiece, it is fucking demanding on them and they still do it and enjoy it every single time, you can see how they breathe at the end literally fighting for oxygen, its always amazingly performed, you really should watch more of idol performances youll see! its always amazingggggg
3:06 lol when BTS songs have long intros or rlly powerful intervals we sing their government names in order from oldest to youngest but we put Namjoon first bc he’s the leader plus BTS at the end. Kim Namjoon! Kim Seokjin! Min Yoongi! Jung Hoseok! Park Jimin! Kim Taehyung! Jeon Jungkook! BTS! Then sometimes there’s just a moment or two that felt right to just sing BTS! BTS! Boy with luv is a perfect example of both. While most of what u have experienced so far is concerts w just army, where things are more partying together w bside tracks & were a bit more rowdy, we try to be more organized for performance shows like inkigayo & award shows so we can participate wo taking away from the performance. It used to just be armys creating them on our own but we were so organized abt it that now the company takes the time to write them for us so we can have more time for studies or work. But it’s still nice to surprise them w smth extra we came up w ourselves at concerts from time to time. Ex: Reflection when Namjoon says “I wish I cld love myself” for four whole measures we responded to every time w “we love u” which inspired him to change the last two bars to “yes I do love myself” I need u to know that u are the ONLY yt I wld sit here & type all this for 😂
The beginning, it's fanchant by ARMYs goes like from oldest to youngest member, but RM's name at first as he's leader "Kim namjoon, Kim seok Jin, min yoongi, Jung hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim taehyung, Jeon Jungkook, BTS!”
Being in the audience for this song is literally an entire experience. It’s so fun. Especially that they can get 60k+ people to scream you can’t stop me loving myself ALL TOGETHER. A total experience
nice reaction. you should react to their 2018 MAMAs award show performance, Jungkook, jimin, and Jhope, eah doa short performance before the song start, celebrating Korean heritage. Jimin was recognized for his traditional fan dance. I believe this was aimed at the haters, especially the ones who dissed the rap line.
"IDOL" is such a party song! Even though it's technically a diss track for their critics and haters, it's so filled with joy and positive affirmations it just hits you in your soul and makes you jump up and sing along. Hearing and seeing them perform IDOL with 60,000 other ARMYs at the Rose Bowl was absolutely incredible and one of my all-time favorite moments from that concert 💜
Idol will always be THAT concert song. One of the highlights of every BTS concert and each time they whip up a new remix and it's always SO epic and hype. By the way, there is a video of BTS reacting to their debut stage performance and they make fun of each other when they don't know which camera to look at. 😂 BTS were rookies once too. But damn yes they are now veterans who always know where the camera is and how to work it!
Actually, the MV is pretty spectacular and full of Korean cultural symbolism. You would REALLY get a big kick out of it. It is EPIC as far as their MVs go! Best of luck to you. I have pre-saved Scars! 💜
ARMY were screaming the fanchant, it begins with RM as the leader, and then the rest of the members Kim Namjoon Kim Seokjin Min Yoongi Jung Hoseok Park Jimin Kim Taehyung Jeon Jungkook BTS
If you wanted to see another performance where Jimin (and V) have a lot of grit in their voice, "BTS We Are Bulletproof PT 2 Live 2016 Concert (Epilogue in Macau)" is my favorite!! It doesn't have lyrics on the video unfortunately, so you'll have to look those up on the side, but We Are Bulletproof pt 2 was one of the first songs they ever released, and it was them venting their frustrations about people who looked down on them and pointing out that they worked hard to get where they are. I think you can definitely feel that energy in the way they perform it!
Honestly you could make a reaction channel just to the incredibly IDOL performances. LOL This was the guys saying F U to the Kpop industry as well as the Western one. Finally just screaming i don't care what you think of me. call me whatever you want, i'm going to keep doing me cuz I love myself. It is CHILLING to be surrounded by ARMY when they perform this. Can't wait for your new music!
my god you NEED to watch their mama 2018 performances! (Fake love and IDOL) One of their best live stages ever, in my opinion. The stage actually shook! Nice reaction btw
And this is the song that made me an ARMY. I was living in the darkness before I heard that. Loved this video, it reminded me of those early wonderful days.
No matter how many times I’ve seen this in concert it is still the best part of the concert - the energy in the whole arena/stadium is out of this world
Its believed this song was a response to the main criticism they were facing at the time: that they were becoming "too westernised". Obviously this isnt true, people were just salty that bts was becoming so popular internationally and in the west, to an extent that no other kpop act has before (or since) The music video is also beautiful and well thought through !
All the best for your next show. I'm pretty sure you can do a big breakout, you and your band are so talented, love your music. I'm rooting for you. Greetings from germany
Great job on Scars, it moved me. It's great that I found out about her from Spotify, not from watching you here talk about it. I wish I was anywhere near LA on Dec 2nd to go see you all! Break a leg!
Idol was written as a response to accusations BTS was receiving from the KPop community of being too westernised, while also being ostracised from the Western Industry and constantly being disrespected and ostracised for being Korean. So BTS decided to do something that would piss both sides of this off. Idol incorporated traditional instruments and music styles, they danced in hanboks and incorporated so many cultural references that western audiences wouldn’t understand, producing the most kpopified music video I’ve ever seen, later pushing this song as an outlet to perform traditional Korean dances at Korean award shows. They asserted their pride in their culture as an ultimate form of self love, making it clear that not only do Kpoppies not get to decide they weren’t Korean enough, they weren’t about to act less Korean to make the western world more comfortable. But also, the original version of the song (this is a remix that incorporates more of the traditional instruments) incorporates elements of gqom an African style of EDM, a very deliberate choice highlighted by safari imagery and their iconic suits from this era- they were making yet another statement, we’re not westernised, we’re god damn GLOBAL. Idol has been the card they play ever since every time they get accused of being too westernised. During Dynamite promotions so many Kpoppies were being so loud about BTS having one English song among hundreds of Korean and Japanese masterpieces- while western sources were trying to make it seem like BTS had finally given in and were going to let go of their Korean identity to succeed in the west. So when they went on Jimmy Fallon for the week, they started out with a cute version of Dynamite with Jimmy and the Roots- and then immediately followed it with a performance of Idol in hanboks in front of Gyeongbokgung Palace.
The song is also the last point in their "Love Yourself" era. After going through the steps of creating the "perfect" relationship (any kind of really), noticing that they lost themselves to this/denied who they are - which lead to the destruction of the relationship - to aknowledgment that you have to love your "imperfect" self first before you "love" others. Idol is the celebration of this "Love Yourself". It's a beautiful journey that began with "Intro Serendibity" (and thought so many "new" words to Army). Three concept albums that only make full sense if you go from song to song till the last one to find the answer.
that sound you hear in the beginning in a fanchant. all kpop groups have them, instead of singing the lyrics you only say specific words. this specific fanchant is a namechant listing the members full names from leader (kim namjoon) and then oldest (kim seokjin, min yoongi, jung hoseok, park jimin, kim taehyung) to youngest (jeon jungkook)
IDOL live is always the whole festival! Great you've reacted to this and there's still loads of Idol performances out there and they're all super! Thank you! 💜
This song is absolutely one of the loudest, most pounding, raging songs when you go to their concerts. Both at Sofi, and in Vegas, the stands were just shaking with the reaction of ARMY. I absolutely love it.
I love how you can see the earlier moments of BTS’s habit of dropping a line here or there to prove their singing live during big performances, they started it in their mic drop era but have continued it to this day. Even during their Dynamite Performance for the Grammys. They’re LIVE and they’re going to make sure no one can argue that
Korea media had been acusing them of going western, so they came out with this amazing song, and in the mamas, Jimin did a fan dance that won a cultural award. I have no idea how the hell they can dance like this and not only sing, but stay on pitch and maintain color and volume???? Can you explain this? OH JK sweats on stage as much as you do. I had a dance partner that did to. we smoothed baby oil on his front and back, anti perspirant on his groin/thighs, and had cold towels in chests with dry ice. it really helped keep me from slipping off his back, or loose our grip on each other.
First of all, I don't know how or why I am just now noticing that you reacted to THIS SONG!!!! Second, you can tell that you are an artist ...the comment you made about "feeling the theme of this song" without knowing the words. RM was getting kinda fed up with, the media, haters, talk show host ect. ect....Saying BTS is this or that because they did that or didn't do this. Saying they are turning their backs on their country(Korea) which is so crazy...they have brought as much tourism to that country as the olympics!! Just wanted to tell you that I really enjoy your reactions!
they’re energy is amazing!! i love their energetic songs as much as i love they’re calm ones. please react to hold me tight or eat me know. their voices are ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL trust me you will be blown away
Idol is worth a deep dive. One of my favorite songs and videos- as a psychologist, it’s speaks eloquently to the fact we all have so many parts of us and we can authentically express them rather that them being merely “masks” as so many artists discuss like Billy Joel in the Stranger which is a darker take on the concept. Also, love your shirt( reminds me of Concrete Blonde.
I love how many of their songs have those multiple layers... And for Idol, I especially love how a defiant clapback song turns into not just an affirmation of self for the performer, but for the audience as well. Tens of thousands of people shouting "you can't stop me loving myself" in unison. That kind of thing is why I fell for BTS. 💜
I’m pretty sure I watched every reaction of yours to BTS and feel like I lost the moment when you became J-Hope biased, whaaaat 😭 Btw, I live in north Mexico and if I had a visa I would go to your show, I get the impression that you’re gonna be wild, and I love that😂 Good luck on your show!!
Beautiful chaos sums up BTS pretty much perfectly and it's one of the many things we love about them.
my god you NEED to watch their mama 2018 performances! (Fake love and IDOL) One of their best live stages ever, in my opinion. The stage actually shook! Nice reaction btw
Just amazing how they can dance so hard, and then sing so clearly at the same time. They must practice singing while running marathons.
Their stamina is unmatched! What terrific performers these guys really are! ❤
And this is the song that made me an ARMY. I was living in the darkness before I heard that. Loved this video, it reminded me of those early wonderful days.
Idol was the first song I ever heard by BTS that made me fall in love with their music
HOBI always delivers 💜
All Idol performances are always "more is more is more", which makes it all the more awesome
No matter how many times I’ve seen this in concert it is still the best part of the concert - the energy in the whole arena/stadium is out of this world
This is one where I would recommend watching the official MV to get a better understanding of what’s happening. It’s fun too !
Idol always brings the house down! Saw this live in LA on Dec 2 , 2021, it was amazing!! Best of luck on your Dec 2 show!

Oooo thank you for supporting COS!
4:14 for reference you should see the MV. It’s just a masterpiece and a real in your face all you haters
They r so addictive,💜
Its believed this song was a response to the main criticism they were facing at the time: that they were becoming "too westernised".
Obviously this isnt true, people were just salty that bts was becoming so popular internationally and in the west, to an extent that no other kpop act has before (or since)
The music video is also beautiful and well thought through !
Best way to break it up. Idol is amazing ahaha❤ good luck on the show!
All the best for your next show. I'm pretty sure you can do a big breakout, you and your band are so talented, love your music. I'm rooting for you. Greetings from germany
Thank you thank you!!!
i live for every moment j-hope comes up in every video and u call out ur bias. lololol here for it.
Great job on Scars, it moved me. It's great that I found out about her from Spotify, not from watching you here talk about it. I wish I was anywhere near LA on Dec 2nd to go see you all! Break a leg!
Thank you for supporting us!

Anpanman reference !!! J may be sleep deprived, but he still knows music catalogs 💜
that sound you hear in the beginning in a fanchant. all kpop groups have them, instead of singing the lyrics you only say specific words. this specific fanchant is a namechant listing the members full names from leader (kim namjoon) and then oldest (kim seokjin, min yoongi, jung hoseok, park jimin, kim taehyung) to youngest (jeon jungkook)
Got the City of Sound t-shirt - it's beautiful and well made. "That's my guy right there."
OOOO I LOVE THAT
Okay, but I’ve heard that Brrrrrrap live and nothing beats 50,000 ARMY doing it at once!!
I just love your whole vibe so much. Seriously. Can't wait for the new song!
lol @ recognizing Anpanman
Look, sometimes all you can say is "that was awesome" lol
Glad you got a bit pumped up from this performance! Hope yours goes well in LA! Good luck, you deserve it!
That song and performance is spectacular!
I absolutely love how you react to J-Hope!!
I love how weak you are for jhope haha that’s my guy I love it everytime
IDOL live is always the whole festival! Great you've reacted to this and there's still loads of Idol performances out there and they're all super! Thank you! 💜
Just listened to „but one ghost“. Awesome song!! Excited for SCARS
Ahhhh thank you for supporting City of Sound!
The camera loves Jungkook. He looks, the camera moves 🤣
This song is absolutely one of the loudest, most pounding, raging songs when you go to their concerts. Both at Sofi, and in Vegas, the stands were just shaking with the reaction of ARMY. I absolutely love it.
I love how much you love this beautiful chaos! 💜 I may see you on December 2!🤞🏻
OMG LETS GO! We haven't had a show that I've been able to promote to the YT crowd so that would be amazing!
it’s so funny to see both you and GameBoyy slowly becoming army lmaooo
Going western is only bad when it's BTS, to them
I’m doing this for ur benefit pls watch August d and Jimin tony Montana u will never see jimin the same way again
Good luck with the show guys, you deserve it
Yup they are a bunch of bad good boys😂😂😂😂. Though we are in Malaysia, wishing you and City Of Sounds all the best.
Thank you!!! ❤️💚💙
5:34 ARMY sees, ARMY loves you for this
First of all, I don't know how or why I am just now noticing that you reacted to THIS SONG!!!!
You,again ,3am! How's it going? Love you'alls music,truly! Best to you all,may joy be your doorstep,everyday😊💜🫶

Should we formally inform him that he is hobi biased? Haha

Every BTS song is a banger. Every. Single. One. Its mind blowing actually.
I woke up from a nightmare and here you are.
Now I can go back to sleep. 💜

BTS!
they’re energy is amazing!! i love their energetic songs as much as i love they’re calm ones. please react to hold me tight or
eat me know. their voices are ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL trust me you will be blown away
Jhope 🔥🔥🔥
I’m pretty sure I watched every reaction of yours to BTS and feel like I lost the moment when you became J-Hope biased, whaaaat 😭
Btw, I live in north Mexico and if I had a visa I would go to your show, I get the impression that you’re gonna be wild, and I love that😂
Good luck on your show!! Will be listening to your music 🎉
I’m a little wild…😂😂😂
And gracias for supporting COS!
@@wrighteousj just wanted to come back here and say that Graves or Gardens and Ode of She both made me levitate, damn they're good
@@gabyxrivera Graves or Gardens is our most underrated song in my opinion, it honestly might be my favorite
