I was a little surprised to see that a sequel was being developed of this game. I would not have thought that Void Terrarium would be more than one entry overall, but they must have had some faith in this now series. I have been hot and cold on games designed this way, reminding me of Torneko or Shiren in ways. I have ordered the Limited Edition from Nis America and am looking forward to experiencing this, thanks for the review Noisy!

I absolutely LOVE the first one and am definitely picking this one up!
Oh how I wish they would make a Toriko Tamagotchi 🍀❤

Honestly this and the original game are in my top 10, the way both punish you for the slightest mistake is gratifying and 2 overhauled so much. Knacks were a huge part of the first game and now it’s even more important in the sequels since some of the skills you’re most familiar with have been removed (killmonger starverd leech was too op) so now you have to rely on abilities you’re not quite sure how they work but once you do become even stronger than you ever could be in void terrarium one

I think they did a great job at this game I like the 1st one but this one here just seems to be better put together.

Currently playing the demo and I never knew this game was interesting & fun 😄 since it's been a good while I've played a mystery dungeon

Seems like a fun little game but 40 dollars is steep, probably gonna puck it up on a sale

Can you skip the first game and jump straight into this one?

Yea the story wasn’t really a huge highlight in the original and this one catches you up. I’d say they made it for new players since the opening re introduces everything

With how much they recycled I'd hope they'd port it to more systems.
Oh well, can still raise babies in Digimon if the need arises.

I wanted to love Void Terrarium simply because it's cute, it's meloncholic, and it's got a robot protagonist. And it's a turnbased roguelike (my favorite genre). Unfortunately, it's a roguelike-lite. And a derrivative one at that. The fact I was rushing through the ass-end of the demo, dashing through the same dungeon for the 20th time just to grow a plant lead me to realize the gameplay loop isn't built around the game's engrossing gameplay, but the extrinsic reward. The grind. The "growing numbers" (in the form of terrarium cosmetics and upgrades). And the uh...the narrative?
Considering the _narrative_ seems to be a major hook in Void Terrarium's otherwise vanilla flavoring, it should be noted how pointlessly sadistic the tone is. Maybe the devs rewatched _Made in Abyss_ too many times? While I am for dark themes, there's no substance to the misery going on here beyond morbid for morbidity's sake. There is no character expressions or interractions beyond a mute headpat and one smiley AI's callously candid take on the human and her suffering. It's just depressing, and it seems like this sequel doubles down by guaranteeing this girl's life will never get much better (or promptly end), and providing nice grim backstory to boot? Oh boy. I can only presume it involves a secret biotech organization fueling an apocolypse machine with the tears of orphans. I wouldn't consider a wholly morbidly depressing narrative to be worth the time sink...
It's grindy vanilla Roguelike-lite that makes you feel sad over a cute, miserable little GIF that would probably be better off dead. I wish I could give it more credit than that, because the aesthetics are nice and I want to support the turn-based rogue genre, buuut...$40 for a basic dungeon crawler? Is the fact it lets you stick decorative PNGs around a pitious anime girl worth it? I dunno. I guess it is, cuz the first game sold pretty well. But I've played enough rogues to give this one a pass.
