A little fun fact: Both singers in this video, Shannon Rubicam and George Merrill, are actually the ones who wrote "How will I know" and "I wanna dance with somebody" for Whitney Houston.
I didn't know that!
adamweishaupt81 wow, you can kind of hear the similarity once you know! Thanks for the info
+adamweishaupt81.
I know and Shannon and George are very great song writers. They have written many great songs. I have some of their cd's in my collection.
They offered Whitney this song too but she didn't take it so they decided to record it on their own.
@@mrbear1302. I know.
This song always puts a smile on my face. It just has that 'sunny, happy, optimistic' quality to it. I was a child in the '80's so those were carefree years for me, too.
Me too.
I never saw the video so I have my own visuals to the song but it's montage of my happy life moments.
It's just a wonderful wholesome song.
They were married when they wrote this. One of my faves!
One of mine too!❤
The two were married at the time and their daughter was in the video. They divorced in 2000 but remain friends.
It's not an 80's song if there isn't a sax solo.
Lost art. Tossing a sax in the song
That made me laugh. So true.
THe original didn't have a sax in it. Arif Mardin, a famous Turkish-American song producer (also producer of this song) pulled some big strings and had it mixed in!
Word
Absolutely! Fact
Always loved this song! The 80s had such great music!!
Yes. There will never be a time like the 80’s.
OMG I'm so glad someone did this reaction because someone (won't say who) kept requesting this song over and over on multiple channels.. LOL! It really is a great song, so I'm glad someone finally go to it!
That someone is me !
"Waiting For A Star To Fall" is my favorite song. It is the best song I have ever heard. Heard it first time for many many years ago and it is still my favorite.
It might be mine as well. Even did a weird cover of it once.
This was huge when it came out it brings back memories .
This one of my favorite songs! The 80s at its best!!!
One of my favorites as well.
They also submitted this song to Whitney Houston first but either her or her team rejected the song. So they decided to record it on their own.
I didn't know about Waiting for a Star to Fall being offered but I do know it was also offered to Belinda Carlisle. Her record company wanted her to record the song. She did record the demo, which can be found here on RUclips, but since she hated the song she never recorded a final version of it. It was for her Heaven on Earth album.
@@rebelheartcr8599 it was mentioned on that show VH1 Popup where during the music video, bubbles of facts would pop up. One of them was about offering to Whitney as she had previously did 2 of their other tunes.
OMG This is one of my favorite love songs from the 80s.💕
**That is not a Sax solo, that is Angels Crying.**
This was the main song that my wife and I danced to at our wedding 23 years ago.
I've always enjoyed listening to this Boy Meets Girl one hit wonder.. Truly a guilty pleasure. The couple wrote 2 hits for Whitney Houston, "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody"
They offered Whitney this song too but she didn't take it so they decided to record it on their own.
@@mrbear1302 Thanks. I wasn't aware of that.
I’ve also heard that Belinda Carlisle actually recorded this song but it was decided not to be included on the album, another reason why they decided to release it themselves..
@@Lovejazz01 I was not aware of that. Thanks for the information.
Not really 1 hit wonders, created numerous mega hits in the 80s
Excellent song!! An almost forgotten gem :) other songs that are male/female duets that are great are "Almost Paradise" Ann Wilson and Mike Reno and "Seperate Lives" Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin....also "Always" by Atlantic Starr
As a professional disc jockey and music lover, this is one of the best songs of the entire decade. It has everything you need to be a hit record.
This takes me back. This is a song that reminds me of a special someone that I was involved with at the time and thought was the love of my life. Was wrong about the girl, but still some great memories and this song still is great.
Hello I actually requested this one . Good to see it had a good reaction in comments. Thanks for the reaction
I was in awe when i discovered this song very recently... how on earth did i never listened (or missed) to this in the 80's...? I'm almost positive it didn't hit the top20 or Top10 portion of the charts in my country in 88, cause i would know it for sure, and it would have been an all time favorite for sure...
Love the song and the band, i dived into their entire discography, and they have a lot of great pop songs. I also love the video to this song a lot, a lovely and happy family. The blond little girl in the video is their daughter. Shame they split up as a couple in early 2000's, but they are still friends and still working together. 😀
Hard not to instantly be put into a positive mood when listening to this one. ❤️
Love this song! Brings me back to my teen years. ❤️
Haven’t heard this in this century.
What fresh hell are the little “sorry about that “ blips. Thanks u tube.
They were married at that time. Great song! I've loved it since it first came out. They were kind of a One Hit Wonder unfortunately tho.
The 80's had better music than the 90's 00's 10's and definitely the 20's
Kevin Vance 100%!!!!!
Wait wait , I gotta challenge that.
I love the 80s , I've designated the 80s as it's own genre .
I call it M80 .
But 90s definitely hold its own in music .
2005 is when music began to fall off .
I remember them saying this song was about the first time they met Whitney Houston, whom they wrote songs for.
They offered Whitney this song to her but she didn't take it so they decided to record it on their own.
I was a teenager when this one came out and still love the infectious feel good vibe of this song. This period of pop music from the late 1980s was all about being happy and uplifting, just positive all around. It still holds up.
I LOVE this song! Thank you for reacting to it : ) Not sure why but this reminded me of another song that you might enjoy called "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Deep Blue Something
they were actually married to each other in this video , it was meant to be sung by someone elese. No takers so they sang it together :) we are so glad they did1
Yup... both Whitney Houston and Belinda Carlisle turned the song down. Glad they did cause the song fits this band like a glove... 😍
I'm in my mid-40s and this song has touched my heart over the last few weeks. I dedicate this to a young woman in Ohio. Love you, Hannah! 😘🥰
Omg I lived in Ohio!
Oh my the 80’s!
THANKS for this reaction !👍💜
One of my fave tunes ever !! Both had such great talent xo
I love this song. It was huge. So much angst! ❤️❤️
They are a songwriting duo and have written several hits for Whitney Houston & others. In fact they offered this song to her but her management turned it down so they decided to record it themselves. I am glad because I can't imagine anyone else doing it better! Incidentally they are a songwriting team that fell in love and got married (they were married to each other when they wrote this). Sadly they have since divorced but are still writing songs together and have a little girl that was shown in the video. This song was big in the late 80's as it was used in the soundtrack of the Movie, "Three Men & A Little Lady"! Great song!
They're married and the little blond girl is their daughter.
Pretty awesome. This song totally holds up.
not gon' lie...this was one of my fav songs when i was growing up lol...
You are doing all my jams today. Damn.
WOW! This one brings back great memories for me. Thank you!
I was 15 when I first saw this video in 1989 and I thought it was the most beautiful video. For over a decade I hungered to see it again. Thank goodness for RUclips.
The reaction when you hear a gem and realize it’s now on your playlist going forward
This is my favorite band. My brother still have the cassette 🤩🤩🤩 all the album is so nice seriously. Thanks for reacting to it🤗
I was 18 when this was released and I still love it.... You do the math!!!! Shout out from Dublin Ireland 🇮🇪
Late 80s early 90s were great for this type of music
You caught the gist of this pop classic. Good review. When you listen to in the coming years it doesn't diminish. Believe me it's been 35 years and I still listen with an 80s flashback.
I haven't heard this one in quite awhile. Thanks for reviewing it.
I presume the occasional "sorry about that" is to thwart the overzealous machine code that monitors videos.
Bravo! You are the first person with a following to review this song. Can you do "future So Bright I Got to Wear Shades by Timbuk 3 or Voices Cary by Til Tuesday
Yesss!!!😎
1 of my favourite song ever. Another of my favourite songs is starship nothings gonna stop us now. Listening to 80s songs like these always brings back great memories cause I grew up in the 80s. Best time ever.
😍Love this song. Nostalgia hitting me hard right now.
I love this song 🥰 such a cute love declaration!
I love this song. Even did a VERY STRANGE cover of it once. Great video!
I have heard the song many times. This is one of the Y/T rabbit hole videos that you kind of stumble on by accident. Back then I would have never thought to find the video, just on the radio. Thank you modern technology…(Y/T, SIRIUSXM, MP3, CD players)
I love this song on so many levels. George and Shannon were close friends of mine when they originally wrote this song for Whitney Houston who did pass on this so they decided to record it themselves. They were married during this time and their daughter is one of the adorable girls in the video. I remember chatting with George on the phone in the middle of the night when they were still conceptualizing the video for this song. George was trying to distract me because my husband was in the hospital with a shattered ankle. George asked me a simple question - what would I like to see on this video. My response was "I want to feel like I just spent a Sunday afternoon playing around with you guys like the old days" - so thus the video was born. George and Shannon sang at my wedding and I love both of them very much. The next day after that fated phone call George did call my husband in the hospital to check on him. I miss the days we used to hang out.
Cool story, thanks for sharing Lori!!!😊
Awesome song. Thanks for sharing your first hearing.
Watching your videos always makes my day a little bit better. I appreciate you.
This song always touches my heart and I have to say India's reactions to it adds to it greatly!
I forgot about this song. Love it! It’s the only one I ever heard by them on the radio, though.
This was one of my very 1st songs that I loved!
One of my all time favorites 💯 they also wrote for the Baby Doll, Whitney Houston 🥰🥰🥰🥰
George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, who are Boy Meets Girl, got the inspiration for this song when they attended a Whitney Houston concert from her 1987 and saw a shooting star during the event. You may ask: "what do they have to do with Whitney Houston?" Well, it's simple. They were the composers for How Will I Know and I Wanna Dance with Somebody. Maybe they were trying to collaborate with Whitney once more. I'm not sure. I saw someone here say that Waiting for a Star to Fall was offered to Whitney but it was turned down by her team. Also, Belinda Carlisle got the demo for this song. She was being egged on by her record company to record the song but she hated it so it didn't go further beyond a demo. It is here floating on RUclips if you wanna listen to it.
Brings back memories. Love the beginning
Definitely one of my favorite songs!!!
I love your facial expressions, emotion, and interpretation of the song. Hope you meet "That Man someday" Maybe that star will fall right into your arms!
Please react to ‘C’est La Vie’ by Robbie Nevil!! 🙏🏻🙌🏻❤️
My sister loved this song.
I was just listening to that 👍
What a neat track!
Love this song more than 20 years😍😍
This is one of my fav's I love love this song!!! It is awful what RUclips is doing to your video's!!!! It's madding!
Sister youre expression sooo beautifull while listening💐,🌷🎶 i watched another channel with also a sister listening to IT ,i miss my sisters when i see video's like that when we use to listen to music together , you explained some things wel on how i recieved IT ,i did said to God dont let a real star fall when i meet him one Day because we want to enjoy that moment and no calamity ,i would like to Prepare with Him for that time when they are going to fall regering to The Book of Revelation ,i know this when we wait upon The LORD The God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and The Lord Jesus Christ For His Will to be manifested in our Lives its worth waiting concerning ,anything marriage ,visions , ( oh my right now i hear a baby singing next to the new appartment that I AM living in HalleluYaH because I still have a childwish to this is beautifull and confirming Jesus ) as long as we keep seeking His Kingdom and doing His Work there is a time For everything .Big hug to you in The Love of Jesus Christ
The 80s was the shit for music 💓💓💓
I've always loved this song!!
That's it girl, you can't deny a good song. Good to see youngsters appreciated I will composed written song.
In 1988 I was on a road trip to Lake Powell with the girl I was in love with but didn't have the guts to tell her when we both saw a shooting star race across the sky at 2 am. We both privately wished for the other person to find happiness in life and it was on that trip that we each found out we were in love with each other. When this song came out we made it ours. We were together for 26 years! I broke up with her, but we're still close friends and we love this song for all the good times we had and wonderful memories it brings to us!
You broke up after 26 years? Damn* I can't imagine dating for 26 years only to break up. 😬✌
@@christyb3128 We lived together the entire time, but when I broke up with her we still had to live together because we owned our house. Neither of us could afford to live on our own nor could either of us afford to buy the other one out of their half of our house. We lived as roommates for 4 years until last year when I was able to buy my own place. It wasn't an easy decision to end our relationship, especially after investing 26 years into it. But I was 19 when we got together and things changed for me. I had a life threatening illness in 2014 that made me re-evaluate where I was going in life. I was stuck in bed for 10 months and It gave me a lot of time to think. Yeah 26 years was a long time to be together, but I wouldn't trade any of that time for anything.❤
This video has an asian boy and an African American boy! Love it 😇

I was a Mobile DJ for 16 years back in the day when this song came out. Every time someone would request this song all I could think was "Ugh, not this song again.". The good thing about DJing was you were paid ($500 for 4 hours) to be the life of the party and it was fun 99.9% of the time. The downside was that most popular music quickly became boring because of over exposure (MTV, radio, and work was all the same music wise) and any song or group that I hadn't heard a million times became the music I preferred. This was one of those songs that I couldn't get away from. I would only play it if it was requested, so unfortunately I played it a lot. It just always struck me generic pop with nothing you could point out that was awesome. No offense to people that like this song. Everyone can't like everything.
I was a radio announcer all through the 90’s, and had to turn the sound down when I was playing a lot of songs because we would play them EVERY HOUR! So, my collection of songs consists of a lot of non-radio hits!
love love this song, makes me wanna get up and dance
Another CVS song! Thanks for reacting.
My favorite song in the whole world!!!!!
I’ve always liked this track !
Exelent song, you are amazing India, listen vitamin z great song burning flame ,congratulation you do very well, from Dominican Republic
A classic from way back
Love this song!!! Good job*
I love this song. Was popular in high school.
You should try ABC's look of love or how to be a millionaire from the early 80's
Good one!
Still wonder how Whitney Houston would have sounded if she took the song. It was wrote for her but she didn't take it so they did it themselves and I gotta say they rocked it I love this song ever since I was a kid. I happen to hear it playing in the background on the Kansas city news back in 2012 and I have been playing it ever since
George Marinelli and Shannon Rubicon made Boy Meets Girl. They are better known as songwriters. They wrote for Whitney and others.
Very good american pop-love-song! Amazing saxophone solo! 5/5 🎶🎶
Great words India
Reminds me of a long-ago love. Jeff, if you’re out there, thanks for the memories.
Another fun fact about this song is it’s feature in the hit movie, Three Men and a Baby. Feat. Ted Danson, Steve Gutenberg and Tom Selleck.
This was a HUGE song at the time. One hit wonder.
Escuché más del 70% de las canciones de los años 80s en ingles y no tengo pruebas pero tampoco dudas de que ésta es la número 1 de todas pero por escándalo!!!
I love your reaction to that sax solo...it hits you in the feels hard...its almost mind blowing...makes you feel some kind of way!!
You go girl you show them how it done
Pretty sure this was the first cassette single I ever bought!
Reminds me of a long-ago love. Jeff, if you’re out there, thanks for the memories. 1988!
Also peep out Will to Power Baby I love your waym they basically combined freebird and Baby I love your way. Another total 80s jam
If you like soft rock from the 70s and you look to young to have been around then try LOVE IS THE ANSWER Dan England/ John Ford Coley it's very inspirational kinda reminds me of this song.
You are so sweet India girl.
Always thought this was sweet!
