So happy, yet shocked, when I saw what you were gonna react to. I absolutely love this song! Amber, you got it right when you said the word "jammin." I used to jam to this song back in the day. Oh and happy you mentioned "Boy Meets World." I own the complete dvd series. Everyone needs a Feeny in their life. Ok, now react to Kenny Rogers, The Greatest." As parents, you will especially love the song and who better to tell the story than Kenny? He's the best story teller.
I read that the record company wanted Whitney to record this but they refused because they wanted to record it and have a hit that they were singing lead on. This was so much like one of Whitney’s pop hits of that era it would have rocketed to #1 ❤❤❤ I was in my 20s in the 80s and loved this song.
Been waiting for this reaction to come up for SO LONG!!! PS... Anyone who loves this song needs to also watch the video by the channel The Vintage Tribute titled "Waiting For A Star To Fall: A Tribute to 80's Entertainment", has the song set to various scenes and clips from 80's shows, music videos and movies. Great Video!!!
They were a very successful songwriting duo in the 80s and 90s, wrote a lot of big hits for other people. This was their big hit as performers, 80s pop gold baby 😊
First time I’ve seen him not like a song, but he came around a little in the second half with that sax and those high notes towards the end. Love this song!
I can't believe Jay didn't like it! I was listening to it, tearing up at its greatness. I don't know if it's the lyrics or the nostalgia. I'd love to go back to 1988. At least he liked the 2nd half. I think the song is amazing in every way!!!
@@BillGraper I know, I couldn't believe it either. How can you not like this song. For me it's a combination of the the beautiful lyrics and a big dose of nostalgia. I'd love to go back to 1988 too.

Amber was correct about this song from the start. But it was great to see Jay get on board. Amber's face when she looked towards him at the end made me smile. Sometimes you have to listen to a complete song to fall for it.
This came out in summer of 88 and then became a very played hit in my Senior year of college. Despite being a Whitesnake, AC/DC (well you get the picture) fan, this song was a secret love. I could never turn it off if it came on the radio. Still reminds me of my own star I kept waiting to fall, but it never came to be. We are friends to this day and she has been to both my weddings.
*I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!* Jay, just smile and bear it... LOL! YES, AMBER! You get it girl! Boy Meets Girl were an award winning, married songwriting powerhouse! Sadly the marriage didn't last, but this song is infinity!
So, these two wrote "How Will I Know" for Whitney Houston's first album. When asked to write a song for her second, the first one they turned in was "Waiting for a Star to Fall." It wasn't quite what Whitney and her team were looking for. Their next submission was "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)." So Whitney got a huge hit, George and Shannon got a huge hit, and the right decisions were made all around. But I do like to imagine this song in Whitney Houston's voice. That would have been incredible too.
This was written by them originally for Whitney Houston but was rejected so they sung it themselves. They Also wrote "i wanna dance with somebody" for Whitney Houston
Belinda Carlisle actually recorded a version of it, but decided not to use it on her album at the time, so George and Shannon decided to keep it for themselves.
You can SEE the moment written all over Jay's face when he grudgingly admitted to himself that he was enjoying/suddenly impressed...grooving to the sax solo and the awesome vocal treated almost despite himself. HYSTERICAL! Loved this song for years and loved this reaction! Yes, Amber, I had the same response as you when this song came out. It was musically transporting!
My wife loves this song, it reminds me of when we were first married, such fun times. The couple who sing this were married at the time but sadly have since divorced.
When falling in love was fun - young, energetic, pure joy even when apart from each other...I think psychologists call this limerence. When a look or an innocent brush of a hand sends goosebumps and the impulse to embrace is all but impossible to resist. This is how this song sounds to me. Anyone who have fallen in love should know what I'm talking about
Married couple who wrote for so many artist in the 80's and 90's. They are from Seattle. Although divorced, they remain a team and sing at local venues. Great group.
I'm so grateful to have been a teen in the 80's. I was 13 in 1980 and 22 in 1989, so all my teen years were 80's. What a fun time to grow up in and so much great music from that Era. This really wasn't a favorite song of mine back then but I do love the saxophone in it 🎶🎷🙂🎶
I know exactly what you are saying, I’m 1 year older than you. I listened to just about everything as long as it was good, from new wave, rock/hard rock, pop/soft pop,rap/hip hop, electronic dance. 😊
I could have sworn y’all already reacted to this .. 🤔 One if my favorite songs from the 80’s, takes me right back there every single time I hear it! I miss the 80’s! 🥹🥲
This song has like every dated, cheesy ‘80s music cliche packed into it and yet somehow it still sounds great. One of the most uplifting pop songs ever. Being a little kid when this came out, it’s the sound of nostalgia for me. It instantly transports me back to a much more innocent, carefree world.
This song instantly transports me to my childhood! I got my first portable radio in 1987, so hits from the late 80s and early 90s are especially nostalgic for me. I think I was 11 years old when this song was a hit. I remember thinking that it just sounded so happy! Yearning but in an upbeat way. Thanks for reacting to it.
I was born in 82. I remember hearing this when I was around 7 or 8 years old. Loved it then. Love it even more. What a song. Absolutely perfection. These 2 wrote 2 HUGE hits for Whitney Houston as well. Genius x
oh you guys this song brings me to tears it reminds me of a childhood girl I had a huge crush on. She still messages me to this day when she hears this song that I dedicated to her back in 1988.
I hadn't heard this song in at least 25 years, but woke up in the middle of the night, about 6 months ago, with this SONG playing in my head! Didn't know who sang it, but looked up just the chorus. Brings me back to the 80s EVERY time! Glad you enjoyed it, too, Amber!
Rob when you’re wrong you’re off the chain wrong. This is a great song , period! It is also a reflection of unrequited love. My friend was involved in the production process. Shannon and George are two of the nicest people you can ever meet! Thank God we have Amber there to help you expand your myopic musical pallet!
How can Jay's honest opinion about this song be wrong? It's his opinion. Glad he's not a robot just parroting everyone else who likes the song. Coolest thing about music is there's enough for every palette, and not all tastes the same to everybody.
@@shuan4008 Who was talking about your preferences in the first place? The topic was about one of the reactors' preferences, and he can't be wrong about what he personally likes or dislikes.
Did you watch the reaction video throughout? Today most music listening is skip to the best part, listen, then skip to the next track. In the 80's, most songs were heard on the radio or MTV, and songs had to be heard from beginning to end - this informed the mid-tempo growing to a faster upbeat crescendo of pop music, that is like a musical sibling to the power ballads of the time. Jay seemed to really enjoy the song once it got past the bridge. He says the second part of the song saves it for him.
This song reminds me of being 17 years old in my Senior year of High School driving down the road in my very used Oldsmobile. It makes me think about the sounds on the radio, the look of the roads, the clothes we wore, working at my first job and thinking about my future. At 51 years old, I still can’t get enough of this song.
There's a Video of with this song, where the 80s flash before your eyes. Great vidio version...very emotional if you are a Child growing up in the 80s...😎🥳👌🏽
"Waiting For a Star to Fall" was the 2nd of 3 singles charted by Boy Meets Girl on the Billboard Hot 100. It first charted 9/10/88 for 25 weeks, peaking @ #5. Their other 2 singles charted @ #39 ("Oh Girl") & #49 ("Bring Down the Moon.")
This is one of those songs that will forever be stamped as a summer evening song. You play it and the sky is that golden colour a few hours before sunset.
This song is about as perfect as a catchy melody, good lyrics song as you get. Surprised it took Jay so long to like it. The 80's was stacked with great music.
This song has special meaning. More today than a few months ago. I lost someone who would sing this song to me. It was his all time favorite song. Thank you for the memory!
I’m crying listening to this song. It played years ago in the airport as my husband was preparing for going overseas & I knew I wouldn’t see him for a long time again. “Waiting - however long - I don’t like waiting - I’ll wait for you - it’s so hard waiting - don’t be too long - it feels like waiting - makes me love you - even more!” 🎶
This song means so much to me. I was 16 in 1988 when my star fell...but I missed her. Too shy, and too scared to let her know how I felt. Tracey Puckett, I still think about you from time to time. Hope you're doing well.
I was initially disappointed to see Jay wasn't feeling this one, but knowing what was coming up later in the track I knew there was a chance he may change his mind. Watching his facial expression and vibe totally changing as that epic saxaphone kicked in was great to see. 😊❤
I looove this song! I was listening to it the other day (its been on my playlist for years!) hoping you would react. Im glad Amber appreciates this song, such a good song. ⭐️
This song would play on the radio about once every two hours when I was in 7th grade in 1988. I wanna go back to the 80s so bad it hurts. Put me in a time machine and just leave me there.
I was probably about the same age as the "Rob Squad" when this song was released, and it's one of my all-time favorites, mostly because of the joy this song represents at this period of time in my life. I was married (to the greatest woman ever, and still am, by the way, over 44 years now) with four children who were nine, five, three and one at the time. It was a very challenging time, but a joyful challenge, and it was such a great time in the life of our family...and I'm happy to say, the joy experienced then has been surpassed many, many times over. I wish everyone could experience the wonder and joy that our family has, which now consists of our grown-up "chi-dults" [adult children] and nine grandchildren, who are also blessed to have three of their great-grandparents alive and well to enjoy life with them. So, in short, this song reminds me of how blessed we are as a family is and how wonderful it is for us to enjoy life together.
The way Amber reacted is what my heart does every time I listen to this song. It's a sweet pure modern rapturous love song. I thought for sure Jay would get into it at least for the fact that the love and devotion described in the song is what I see from him and Amber!!!! It's also pure late 80s pop though it was unlike anything else current at the time - was a big hit & the video was in constant rotation because it was visually beautiful and illustrated the vibe perfectly. It came out 35 years ago this past June & affects me the same way today as it did the first time I heard it. (ps- I've written responses to several of the videos on this awesome channel & in just about every one, I think I've called Jay "Rob"...because I'm a moron. Sorry Jay!)
I loved watching her reaction to the song! I was in my twenties when this song came out. I remember hearing it for the first time and loving it immediately! You just can't help but smile when you hear this song! 😊😊
It takes a great talent to create a great melody whether rock, pop, metal, country or whatever genre'. This melody was a packaged HIT all the way. Full of upbeat energy.
This song instantly transport me to the 80s, a simpler time where a lot of songs and movies were upbeat, and people embraced the cheesiness. Saxophone being a staple instrument in a lot of songs in the 80s/90s ❤
Written for someone else (Whitney Houston, I think), but declined so they decided to record it themselves & it became one of my favorite feel good songs of the 80s. They wrote many songs for other artists from what I've read, but I'm glad they did this one themselves. Glad to see you guys react to it!
husband and wife team, daughter is the little girl in the video. The husband wrote for other artists, including Whitney Houston. He wrote this song after seeing Houston performing live at Yhe Greek Theater and he saw a shooting star in the sky above her. The song was offered to Whitney Houston, whose producer turned it down. I would have loved to hear her take on it. It was shopped around to a few others, including Belinda Carlisle, who did a studio trial to see if the song was one she wanted. She turned down the song, but her studio sample is available as an outtake release on youtube. But this song was a passion project for George Merrill, and his wife Rubicam. One might notice that they do not have the traditional glamour look of pop performers of the time. The writer and his wife and some studio musicians formed Boy Meets Girl to showcase their songs offered to other artists and cut an album a couple of years before. Waiting for a Star to Fall was the inspiration behind their second album. They knew the song would be a hit if it could just be recorded by the right artists. After no-one accepted the song, Boy Meets Girl released it themselves. The song is featured over the closing credits of Three Men and a Little Lady. I did not see it. It's not my type of flick. Yeah, the song starts out as just another bouncy pop tune until the vocals comes alive after the bridge.
I love this sweet song! The couple was actually married at the time they wrote this, but have since divorced. It was also used in Three Men and a Little Lady (a hint for the movie channel maybe…?)
Ah the summer of '88, good times! Such a catchy, fun tune. This was offered to Whitney Houston but her record company CEO Clive Davis rejected it, their loss!
This song is very special to me! I bought the cassette single of this song on a date with my then boyfriend. We had stopped at Tower Records after a wonderful day together. Later that evening I played this song while we carved pumpkins in the driveway. Always reminds me of those sweet early dating days and the Fall weather. This summer we celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary! Thanks so much for reacting to this one. Gave me a smile from ear to ear!
This was an 80's classic, cant believe the guy didn't like this, just unbelievable vocals and he must of missed the amazing saxaphone & piano, just a super upbeat jam

I was initially disappointed to see Jay wasn't feeling this one, but knowing what was coming up later in the track I knew there was a chance he may change his mind. Watching his facial expression and vibe totally changing as that epic saxaphone kicked in was great to see. 😊❤
Such A GREAT ONE!!!❤😊thanks for the memories
So beautiful, even from a guy who loves music amazing vocal ❤️ notes
I looove this song! I was listening to it the other day (its been on my playlist for years!) hoping you would react. Im glad Amber appreciates this song, such a good song. ⭐️
This song would play on the radio about once every two hours when I was in 7th grade in 1988. I wanna go back to the 80s so bad it hurts. Put me in a time machine and just leave me there.
Another 80's gem💫❤️
FINALLY !!! A number of us have been asking for this one for a long time! 😊🙃🙂
This is on my all time love song playlist. Jay, this was a staple of the mid 80's, if you love the 80's, this is part of it.
Thanks, J & Amber. Saw this tune requested a lot since I became a sub. Glad you put the song’s fans out of their misery. 👏🏾
Such a great song. I miss the 80s.
I absolutely love this song.
Has that classic 80s saxophone solo that hits just right! This is one of my all time favorite 80s songs
This song instantly transport me to the 80s, a simpler time where a lot of songs and movies were upbeat, and people embraced the cheesiness. Saxophone being a staple instrument in a lot of songs in the 80s/90s ❤
My older Brother got married to this song and they just celebrated their 28th anniversary! One of my favorites since then!
How could I forget this little gem. I loved this song when it came out. Yes, I'm that old.
I'm 80 next year..... and I love it. So does my eclectus parrot
You need to watch the 80’s tribute with this song in the background. Very emotional for us 80’s kids.
Written for someone else (Whitney Houston, I think), but declined so they decided to record it themselves & it became one of my favorite feel good songs of the 80s. They wrote many songs for other artists from what I've read, but I'm glad they did this one themselves. Glad to see you guys react to it!
You can still hear this occasionally on soundtracks in the workplace, malls, etc. Fun & sweet, easy to sing along to. 🥰
You need to see the 80s video put to this song ! It's all 80s memories ❤
husband and wife team, daughter is the little girl in the video.
Completely forgot how awesome this song is!!!
Great song , I didn't discover this until a couple of years ago. " that's where you belong , in my arms baby yeah"! Love that phrase
Ah the summer of '88, good times! Such a catchy, fun tune.
This was offered to Whitney Houston but her record company CEO Clive Davis rejected it, their loss!
One of my favourite 80’s songs and it’s a timeless song and it’s never aged.
I had a hunch Amber would get into it!
You are the sweetest couple.....just love both of you and watching your reactions! :)
This was a one hit wonder, but it encapsulates the 80's so well. Great song.
They had a couple other hits. They actually were more known as writers. Wrote several 80s songs for other artist.
