      Yeah, it is nuts. I’ll show the readings in the next video. The riser was at 90 watts at one point when on its own PSU and kilowatt.

      You know what would be awesome? If the all the mining RUclipsrs could agree on a standard test bench. Nothing crazy just the motherboard, CPU, RAM, SSD, and PSU would be the same. Probably the power meter as well. That way the numbers would be comparable and also we may be able to see how different software choices would influence the numbers. Or maybe the software should be agreed on as well. If the RUclipsrs could agree on something I'd also immediately go out and buy those components for myself so I could see how my numbers line up and I'm sure many others would as well.

    My advice for accuracy would be either 1. Riserless motherboard with slot-in motherboard or on-board mobo (Octominer, Manli etc.). My Manli riserless board with CPU, ram, GPU out etc. runs at 31w total for system at the wall and it varies VERY little. 2. Use a at-wire measurement using a Fluke, or hacked PCI/Riser cables to a oscilloscope or lab style power meter.

    • @HashRaptor
      @HashRaptor  4 года назад

      Great suggestions. I’m probably not skilled enough to hack the riser cable (I think). I’ll Luke up a Fluke, hope I can find it on Amazon :). Will also check out the manli board.

    Interesting video. I've been thinking lately about all the power consumption numbers floating around and have come to conclusion that they really can't be compared to each other because of all the variables. My thinking right now is one should eliminate as much of the system as possible. So basically the test system would be a motherboard, CPU with an iGPU, one stick of RAM, SSD, and a PSU. A power reading can be taken with just this stuff at idle. Then install the GPU and take a reading and subtract the original idle reading to get the GPU idle power. Mining consumption would be total system while mining minus the original system idle. This isn't perfectly accurate since the total system is doing more than when it's idling but I find that my CPU isn't doing all that much while mining so it should be pretty close. The important thing here is eliminating all the variables like risers, fans, fan hubs/controllers, multiple PSUs, additional resistance from all the cables and splitters, etc. And that's just hardware. OS, OS version, driver version, miner version all matters as well... Looking forward to seeing any results you come up with because I'm looking at my 5700 XT numbers and they don't seem as good a lot of the other numbers I'm seeing...

    • @HashRaptor
      @HashRaptor  4 года назад +1

      Well said. I agree 100%. I’m actually trying to come up with the protocol you described for future testing right now. Simplify as much as possible. If I do use multiple power supplies that will be just for a broad idea of what is going on with each component. But yeah I am more convinced than ever that the reading shared all over the forums and RUclips videos are curious for certain.

    I would advise anyone against buying the 5700 XT variant if you can grab the non XT 5700 at a good price and then flash to the XT bios. Of course this depends on how comfortable you are with bios flashing.
    my 5700's all do around 57 mhs on eth via windows with modified 5700xt bios flashed on them.

    Super cool bro 👍🏻
    can't wait to watch your next video and get to know your best results for this card !
    There's a way to measure the EXACT current out of any load and later figure out power consumption (P=V.I) which I personally used when I had to enforce a current-limiting method for some builds, but I haven't tried the same for a GPU yet, doing so is possible in your case of course with a multimeter and some wiring after figuring out and studying pinout diagram for a GPU DC input interface.
    For a PCIe 6 Pin interface:
    pins 1,2,3 ---> +
    pins 4,5,6 ---> -
    For a PCIe 8 Pin interface:
    pins 1,2,3, ---> +
    pins 5,7,8 ---> -
    Diagrams and standards might differ though !
    Wish U the best always bro !

    • @captivator13
      @captivator13 4 года назад +1

      Hash Raptor U can do it yourself bro !
      in fact; U can also fabricate a m/f interface which U can use on any future GPU's to retrieve precise measurements, this way it becomes a plug-n-play method with some easy math for final readings.
      I agree it can be a bit risky if U make a slight mistake swapping poles !!
      Best of luck bro :)

      @HashRaptor  4 года назад +1

      Yes, that is my bigger worry if I start taking on my own electrical. I think I can do that stuff, but not with expert level confidence. It would be that one out of a hundred that I’d set something on fire :)

    Can you explain the hive-replace list in further detail? What do the different options mean? What does ti accomplish to switch from the current hive being used?

    • @HashRaptor
      @HashRaptor  4 года назад

      Well, honestly I've used hive for years and never needed to use it. So I doubt you will, unless you might need experimental drivers as I did from AMD for the 5700 line. So I wouldn't worry about it too much, you may never need it. But, if someone mentions a specific build, you have this in your back pocket. Otherwise you can just upgrade as needed directly withing hive.

      Hash Raptor I think it measures high at the junction from what I have read. I think there is a safe range according to the manufacturer, I don’t remember the exact degrees but I was surprised on how high they were. I might call and get
      more info on my next day off.

      Gotcha. Well, if you like easy and mobile, take a look at Coinomi. I like it because it has tons of coins, so I can mine lots of algos straight to it.

    Hi good vidéo thx, for the display Wattmetre it's 2Amp

    • @HashRaptor
      @HashRaptor  4 года назад

      Excellent thanks. I was about to look that up shortly. Just saved me the time. That isn’t bad at all. But if I use 3 of them, then the large wattmann strip, and 2 server PSU’s it all starts to add up. Hmmm, what do you think? Leave it as is and just subtract out the estimated overhead usage?

  • @AymanSci
    @AymanSci 4 года назад

    Man it is obvious!!! U should look for each power supply efficiency most of them on 70% and the lowest on the edges so at lower power consumption u are at the lowest efficiency so your readings are wrong

    • @HashRaptor
      @HashRaptor  4 года назад

      Hmmm, very good point! So let me think through this. The platinum should be between 50 to 70% load for the best efficiency by a couple of percentage points. Not sure how that translates to 14 watts though or how that would be different at 50% load. Are you suggesting it would use less than 14 watts?

    • @AymanSci
      @AymanSci 4 года назад +1

      @@HashRaptor yes. So at 92% it is using 8w
      It is equivalent to 8 at 60% and u will see pulling 14w

    • @HashRaptor
      @HashRaptor  4 года назад

      Makes total sense. So the question becomes, is it worth isolating that wattage readout by using a standalone psu (for the riser for example), and then just subtracting 14(ish watts). Same for GPU wattage. Or just do it the old fashion way and just have one reading at the wall and subtract the idle system wattage. The only downside to that is that I can’t see directly what the riser and GPU are doing. What do you think?

    • @HashRaptor
      @HashRaptor  4 года назад

      I did like seeing the large amount of energy the riser was using. Nice to know if it is using 10 watts or 70 watts, even if the psu is adding 14 watts. Hhmmmm. Maybe I’ll do it both ways :)
